Another cautious tug of her fingers ended in success as the loop loosened to lengthen her freed strand rope. It was a near exciting accomplishment as the girl looked over the knot. True, there was still a small jungle of twists and ties but she had managed to find a way to loosen two different parts. With a gentle hand Tenma laid the now longer piece of rope along the side of her leg so she could see the rest of the knot without its interference.
Biting her lip slightly Tenma noted that there were a few paths the rope could have taken from that point. Attempting to look at it from another angle she lifted the knot as well as she could and tilted it slightly. Though the view wasn't enlightening in her predicament she found that she was able to eliminate a few different strands. Digging into the knot slightly she found her desired piece and gave it another careful tug.

Yet again the girl pulled the loose end free of the rest of the knot, content in how quickly the entire thing was beginning to unravel. Biting her bottom lip slightly she returned the continuously lengthening piece of rope back along her leg and began looking for the next possible section. Her posibilities were narrowing, but the knot was also becoming tighter and the binds were closer. The only real question about her success would be whether or not she could find that one sweet spot to release the entire knot.
Her eyes travelled along the rope and she imagined how the knots were formed. The imagine in her imagination seemed real enough as she pick out her next attempt. This piece wasn't as difficult to get to, but it was bound tightly by the other ropes. After getting her grip she gave a slightly stronger tug as it was being held in a stronger manner.

Even though she was careful with her tug Tenma found her finger again caught between the twisted rope. Her pulls at her fingers seemed useless as the knot had her fingers tightly in place. There was enough mobility for her to, however, continue on with her attempt. Using her fingers she traced the section she had just pulled on, reminding herself to avoid that one for now. As her tips of her nails scratched slightly at the rough materials she found another suitable section from the image she had in her head.
It took a bit more effort but after a few slips Tenma was able to get a decent grip on the rope. Figuring it wouldn't make much of a different what strength she used to pull on the rope the girl gave her new grab a sharp tug in hopes of feeling something loosen.

Her tug was stronger than her previous but it didn't relinquish any of the rope. However, though it didn't bring her any closer to her final goal it did loosen the ropes binding her fingers enough to let her slip out. With her hands and her vision restored to the workings of the knot Tenma noted the two that weren't working so far. After making sure her notes were in check she decided to try one of her original failed attempts.
Looking over the knot she was able to locate her original attempt, the first section she had tried to pull free. It had become loose with the untangling of surrounding bonds and it was more available than it had been. Her fingers wrapped around the section and, this time, she made a slower attempt in order to give herself enough time to judge what was happening.

As her fingers teased the slip away from the rest of the knot Tenma's eyes confirmed her correct guess. With a contented smile the child gave the rope a solid yank and released it from the still tangled mess. Once again she laid the loose rope along her leg as she looked over the significantly smaller jungle. Sooner or later she would figure out how to complete this minor set back.
With careful eyes the girl traced the rope, trying to see where it led and what move to make next. Now that her hand was becoming more familiar with the basic movements of the un-knotting process Tenma found herself more focused on the dipping, ducking, and twisting of the ropes. One more familiar grip and the girl gave a slight tug to loosen the knot further.

To the child's pleased surprise loops and knots that bound her began to fall away. With a few simple tugs the ropes finally came apart and her hands were finally disconnected from her feet and she was one step closer to completing the task. Pulling the rope off to the side in order to give herself some room a lock of hair fell into her face, which was quick swiped out of the way.
Now that Tenma had freed herself, partly, she was ready to move on to her hands. As her eyes attempted to follow the twisted knot she realized it wasn't as severe as the one before. Since she had become more familiar with the process she easily gripped a twist in the knot and gave it a sharp tug.

Night had arrived, but a sole figure appeared in the middle of the meadows. Kana may have expected him to aid the painter and his assistants...but nope, Michishirube merely took the opportunity to sneak out when they were running after the petite girl. With a sigh, the eastern gate captain brushed a lock of pale hair away from his eyes...all the while still trapped in the ceremonial garb they made him put on for the portrait. With a low growl, he tugged uncomfortably at the layers of robes, greatly tempted to tear off the dark blue outer-robe...but then, if he gets grass stains on them, he won't hear the end of it from the old bats.
Shiru looked down at his hakama pants. A dark green they were...oh, whatever. With a plop, he rather unceremoniously sat down beneath a tall oak tree, before leaning back with a contented sigh...he took to watching the clouds. How beautiful the night was...beautiful...even the clouds...so free... If any of the old bats heard that line of thought, he would certainly have earned a wack on the head for thinking like a Nara...
Really. Being nobility was so troublesome. Why couldn't his family have been normal people...?

Minoru had been running for most of the day and fell back on a tree. He was panting hard, but he hadn't gotten anywhere. He tried to center himself as well as he could, just as he was getting his bearings. He looked up at the night sky, getting annoyed as it taunted him with its sparkling stars. Looking around to see who was still around, he spied someone he didn't recognize. He eyed the guy suspiciously. Had he been there the entire time? If so why hadn't he done anything? Was he waiting for a chance to attack? Was he even an enemy? There were too many questions and not enough answers. Either way it appeared he was well dressed, if wearing ugly and encumbering clothing counted as well dressed. This posed questions of its own. Any rich man or woman could wear expensive clothing, but it took a special kind of nerve to wear such things in front of other people. The man certainly didn't make a good first impression upon Minoru. He looked the man over silently, trying to decide whether or not he should talk to the stranger.

Such a wonderful night... Shiru sighed contentedly. He was still resting comfortably on the grass beneath the oak, eyes closed, simply enjoying the quiet beauty of the village. Not too bad, even the breeze isn't cold... And this place was very good for star-gazing at this time... He briefly wondered, if Kana would forgive him for ditching her and leaving her to the mercy of the painter and his assistants...but then, eh! Not like those civilians could hope to catch that Sannin child... The sound of footsteps did not escape the eastern gate captain's ears and the teenage Sannin sat up, pale, pale eyes slowly opening...until dragon-pearl orbs stared intently at the boy who had wandered close to his path.
A Hyuuga.
But Shiru didn't recognize this boy as one of the Students...after all, he had dozed off and Kana took watch during the lessons. Besides, faces he could do for it was in the line of sentry work, but memorizing names was not his forte. So for a long moment, he considered the other boy with an almost bored expression... And then he just leaned back, falling with a gentle plop on the grass again, arms comfortably cushioning his head.
"Orion is rather bright tonight."
...was this guy for real? Of all the comments...on a constellation...?

Minoru leaned back against the tree, now fully aware of what, but not who, he was dealing with. The boy was a Hyuuga, but an odd one at that. Either he was so full of himself that he made sport of flaunting his power, or he was as lazy as a Nara. It was doubtful that someone of that pedigree would be reducing himself to that level.
Minoru looked up at the sky for a second, then looked back down at the boy. "It appears you are correct in that." He went back to looking at the boy with quiet suspicion. It briefly crossed his mind that getting rid of him now may benifit him later, but being that rash would only end in disaster. Instead, perhaps this boy could serve as a connection.
Minoru's features relaxed slightly, acting as if he was off his guard.

Shiru's eyes closed for a long moment, he merely enjoying the night breeze. "They do say..." Said the other teen, his voice quiet. "That the night sky connects us with the departed..." A long pause, and for a moment silence reigned. "...like the sole day the Shepherd and the Tennyo Maiden are allowed to meet."
The Shepherd and the Tennyo Maiden was an ancient myth...of how a poor shepherd stole a tennyo's hagoromo in the hopes of her becoming his wife... He succeeded, she even eventually came to love and forgive him...but the gods punished them for not doing their duty, and the maiden was forced to return to the heavens. Once a year, they were allowed to meet, the milky way forming the bridge for their reunion. But it was not only a place of joy, but also of sorrow...the same river which they joyfully reunite and tearfully bid each other farewell... But what could Shiru mean...? He wasn't talking about a love story but...
"But don't you think..." Smiling to himself, Shiru reached a hand up, as if trying to grasp the stars in his palm. "No matter who we are, we are all under the same night sky..."

"Legends change wherever you go, different people have different traditions, but the themes are the same." It appeared this Hyuuga was more interested in philosophy than anything else. "Only by allowing ourselves to be ruled, can we be ruled. Kings, nor warlords, nor gods, nor the heavens themselves rule us unless we let them."
This Hyuuga was certainly odd, but that didn't make him any less dangerous. Anyone with that sort of pedigree didn't get it through complacency, or weakness. There may been one bad apple on the tree, but that doesn't make the entire tree bad. Minoru would have to watch this one closely.

"Heh. That's true. It isn't very fair to the gods, isn't it...?" Came Shiru's quiet voice. "We as little human beings can do so much in trusting the gods...but what would gods put their faith in, then...? And what to trust, when they are no longer there? Walk forth, on two feet, as long as we still have at least that much of a capability..." A soft pause, Shiru with his eyes still serenely closed as he laid there, arms under his head, on the grassy field beneath the tall oak. "In the end, we are only part of a "whole". One fraction of the universe. To those guys above..." Here, Shiru gently raised an ant resting on his index finger, and slowly opened his eyes to the light of the stars. "...to those guys who watches us from above, we are only but perhaps as small as the ants of the Earth..."

This man was really quite strange. All he did was lament about how small he was. "A wise man once said, 'No god, or kings, only man. A madman yes, but i wise man nonetheless. You are as only as small as you let yourself become, and only as big as the people who see you think you are." Minoru sighed. It was just like the rich to spend their time wondering about things that didn't matter. To worry about entities that didn't care, or matter, was a waste of time and resources. People didn't crawl out of their caves to form societies by sitting around and thinking a lot. Thinking was a valuable part of any person, but unless it was paired with actions, it was completely futile.
"Enough of this philosophical babble. Who, may I ask, are you?"
