Her name drew her attention and she watched again. A c**k of her head as she tried to figure out what was being said. More or less watching the hand gestures that were being made, the names that went with them and the new words that were being given to her. Eyes following very very closely to watch things. First the new words. "Mle...Mae...Male." Testing it out of her tongue a few times, then trying the alternate word. "Fmale...Female." Okay she had the words now...now what was she supposed to do with them. But mimickry seemed the way to go and she decided to point out people as Shyrae had, adding the word in as she did so.
Oh well that explained a lot about why she didn't feel well and why she had been warned about having this done. But wasn't it amazing the things you learned if you just sat there...okay in her case laid there...and listened? But her attention was pulled by Eilynne again as the creature attempted to understand things from thier own world that didn't exist in hers. "I'm too young to have witnessed wars. I have seen raids and such, but no real war. A cold war of sorts, but not an active one." Thinking a moment. "We call them wars and enemies...because they are trying to hurt the ones that we love and car about. And they want to purposefully hurt them for thier own selfish reasons and to see you suffer."
Slamming the door shut, she shook her head. "Get the hell off my bed. And if this is about Hunter than you can go ahead and leave. I've no need to squabble with you over a subject as petty as a man."

"enemies seek to injure you. everyone has enemies, even you. maybe a better example. lets say you get this orb thing reconstructed. someone tries to take it away, by force. that person is your enemy."
War...oh he knew plenty on that too.
"War is fought for many reasons. some are religious or idealogical. a battle because, like you commented, someone does not believe as you do, or has an opposing belief. or thier belief encourages conflict, such as the Rallosians of my plane of birth."
"Other conflicts are because our resources are limited. people need certain things to survive. plentiful food, land, water...but there's only so much. many times kingdoms and empires find that thier resources become to thin, for a population that continues to grow. thus they seek more. but many times, all around them has been claimed. thus, they must fight, and drive out, the others to continue their own growth and survival."
"I think the biggest reasons are simply hate and envy. a rich kingdom usual finds poorer kingdoms trying to destroy it to claim it's riches. or a personal hate or anger between rulers, who have no problem dispatching thier armies to avenge slights or insults. in fact, outside of families...human nature seems to lean toward confrontation and conflict."
Desdemona snarled lightly.
"I'm not squabbling. he's mine, I marked him, I laid claim to him as simple as you lay claim to the gale claw. and while that subject does touch upon it, Hunter is not my topic directly."
settling in a chair.
"My topic is wondering how long you are going to string along little Thobias before he snaps and does something overly stupid. anyone with more than two braincells can tell his affection for you is much more than first mate to captain. his sense of duty is eventually going to wear out when it comes to Hunter or your other lovers you may have."

"But those same enemies don't have to be." She was gaining insights that she hadn't had before. The knowledge of humans being predisposed towards conflict was well known among her own kind and the very reason they had gifted such a volatile plane with the Gift. The ability to change and manipulate as needed should have stopped the conflict, yet it hadn't. "Religious conflicts are pointless and tiresome. Bringing about death for such selfish reasons only puts a stain on the soul and punishment waits for the dogs who begin such follies. Those who engage are forever inflicted by the horrors of a battle that should never be fought." Yes, she was passionate about that one.
"As for resources, it is selfishness that brings another to hoard and hold back from others. Life is fleeting for humans but they waste it on pointless endeavors and gambles that hardly pay off. They live, laugh, love, but they cause pain and heartbreak and force acts that shouldn't be committed. The Council convened many years ago adn were tempted to rid the plane of the vilest of these creatures, but the Goddess stayed our hand." A shake of her head. "What of the families? What of the loves and lives? What of the tears? Can those merely be discounted as spoils of war? Or should they be wiped away as indifferent as those who steal somethign so precious have no remorse?"

"Somtimes despite knowing all those My Lady, they simply do no care. That's all there is to it." Shaking her head and shifting where she lay to find a bit more comfortable position. She however did not care to talk of such things as war and what not. She didn't feel well and it would only tax her mind more than it needed to be.
"Yeah yeah, marked whatever. You can claim him all you want but you can't control him. If he wants to sleep around then he's going to do it. I haven't seen him in your bed again yet. That's for sure." Giving a vindictive chuckle at that before a frown about Thobias. "What interest do you have in my relationship to my first mate? Are you trying to get me solely focused on him so you can think you have Hunter all to yourself? Did you take up a partime job of playing matchmaker? And what of such time contraints? Thobias is free to do as he wishes with whom he wishes. I've no claws in him nor wish to put them in him like you so deperately want to Hunter."

"Dragons exist where you are from?" Well that tickled him somewhat, interest springing up a bit. "Learning any new language is difficult but since it's already part of her nature, it seems to be coming to her easily. Not to mention, she has that curiosity to learn." Thus turning eyes back to Shyrae and Sky, he watched her progress, pleased as she repeated the terms appropriately. "Good, Sky." Though looking to Shyrae momentarily, he tilted his head. "Why is it important to teach her gender differentiation?"

A snort.
"My point being, Captain, that Thobias' emotions are for you, and you alone. and wether you like it or not, or see it or not, being around certain males that you are known to sleep with grates on him. flirting with any male that has a sparkling gem will get to him. and eventually, he's going to break. you really want him to push Hunter into a deadly fight? or a nomad, or anyone?"
leaning forward.
"Or, the other logical outcome. if I were to right now come across this room, and lay you out, which I can do, I could make thobias do anything I want because he'd want me not to finish you off."
though a smirk.
"Although, I think I have a solution between you, I, and hunter. I'll let you play with my hunter...if I get to play with you."

"I hardly think that Thobias is going to 'snap' as you so say. Honstly Des, are all things in your head set on extremes? Thobias is not one to be considered a puppy who follows the woman with treats in her pocket around. I can guarentee you that when we make ports he samples the local women...sandsea life just offers up lonely terms and we have to rely on each other...he's at least the cleanest in my crew." Crossing her arms. "Threats don't impress me either. And Thobias would survive without me, probably captain this ship and maim you for killing me. You're only but so invincible."
Shaking her head before a blink then and tilting her head at the statement that she was presented with. "Again this ownership is in your head." A point to the dragoness, "And sorry, Desi, but you just don't have the parts that I like to play with."

Giving a nod to Sky. "That's right. Male. Female. Skylheera is a female." Thus over to Kaznec. "Mimickry mostly. We're trying to teach her common and help her link concepts. For our purposes these are simple and absolute across the board. Eventually we'll have to teach her words like elf, dragon, Laerethe, and it will help if she's already made simple concept links in her mind. Was she engaging in it in draconic?"
"I find that sad and soul-tainting worthy as well." Running her fingers back through Jae's hair as she pondered that for a moment. "It does neither of us any good to consider such upsetting things, however." Her concern for Jaebelltiah above all. "Jaebell, at anytime you wish me to leave you to rest you have but to say so. I would like to know more about your home though. What do you know of the Riders?"

"Well...we have dragon-eqsue things and we used to have dragons. But not anymore and the ones we do have, forgive my wording, are no more than stupid killers in the underdark. But my grandfather as taken me to see intellgent dragons and the like. So I've been exposed to them." Grinning almost stupidly before a chuckle and elbowing Shyrae.
She basked again in the praise that she was given over apparently getting things right and she worked her jaw a bit more as if speaking rather than making noises seemed to irritate slightly. But a blink and she snapped at the air. "Dragon. Beast. Mount. Pet. Fodder. Break. Stupid." The words coming out in quick succession before she shook her head as if she had an itch. Dragon, that was a noise she knew and she also knew the other words...that's what the Riders called them. They meant dragon too, right? looking expectabtly to them as if that meant she was waiting for praise on it.
"My home? You have to have a home. Unless you mean the plane. The plane, a house, and a home are all different things here. I don't have a home yet." But a frown as a subject she wasn't keen on was brought up, what with all the implications of what she may be coming up. "I just know that they obtain dragons and mostly breed them for thier eggs...then somehow keep the dragons little and such and make them stupid so they are rideable and no threat."

"That makes sense." Which was definitely an important thing in his book. Nodding though, he glanced at Sky then back to Shyrae. "She understands the concept of race, though in draconic she was mostly confused about this neutral form that we dragons are able to take on. She knows that she's a dragon, but questioned about me and how I can change between both forms." He was about to answer Dhariss when that string of words struck the air and he frowned immediately. "Watch your words." Shyrae wanted to teach her new things, give her a rebirth of sorts from the Rider lifestyle she'd become accustomed to. Apparently some things from that were still firmly entrenched. Stepping forward, he stood right in front of her and shook his head. "Thric. Darastrix ti pothoc. Sky ui othokent." Laying a hand against her nose, he looked at her with a firm but unpunishing expression. "You are smart, you are learning. That's good."

She could practically feel Dhairiss' giddiness over watching these events and once again was glad he was there. Glancing at Sky, a frown bubbled up and she was about to open her mouth when Kaznec stepped up. She'd been afraid of that. The vestiges of Sky's former life were not going to be magically wiped away like a misbegotten spell. They were going to have to help her relearn what everything meant. Thankfully Kaznec could reinforce things in draconic.
"She wants to learn how to change. That's good, means her natural curiosity is taking over. Now we have to break the connection between certain other concepts as well." Sighing, this was quickly becoming a highly complicated task.
"No home, that much is true. But you are no wanderer, Jaebell." Debating on whether or not to bring up certain things to the girl present. "Certain others have offered you a home but you always refuse. Are you afraid?" Not that that would be awful because even the Laerethe could feel fear. "Yes, that much is true." Testing Jae to see how much she would reveal and how much she truly knew. "I suspect it has something to do with the eggs. A process of sorts or perhaps it is a single event that forces them into that state. One of just such a dragon is now in residence upon the ship as well. The elf's newest project, I believe?"

"from what I gathered at that temple, it seems the eggs are kept at a certain temperature, and turned and moved often. I imagine this is what stunt's growth, and probably makes them easier to program. from journals on the subjects, normal dragon clutches are kept relatively hot, and not disturbed, correct?"
Malik had his own suspicions.
"So far, yes. their working with the dragon, she seems to be making some progress. and I think Kanzec as been added to the list of teachers voluntarily or not."
Des smirked lightly.
"Is that so. well good for the boy. and as to you."
getting up out of her chair and leaning on the door, letting her tails snake down around her own ankles lightly.
"I'm willing to wager you've no experience with a woman. so how would you know if I was fun to play with? I might be even more fun."
Des had some experience...mostly because back in the days before the Chimera, she worked in brothels using thier 'contacts' to play thief in her off hours. and it didn't matter what the sex was, as long as the coin was enough as far as the people in charge were concerned.

"Well...that's not good. Apparently that's what she's been hearing with whomever she was with before. Pity that one word would equal so many other negative ones in her mind." Crossing his arms and nodding toward Kaz, while look to Shy. "See, you two are going to do just fine together. All about teaching her what is right and what is wrong."
She blinked and lowered her head some as she wasn't immdiately met with praise. That didn't make them happy? But that's what that word also meant in the language they were speaking in. Why didn't they say it was a good thing. But her attention focused to Kaz as he moved in front of her more or less commanding her attention in a way that she was used to. That was a word that she was familiar with and she worked her jaw again. "Outsmart." Outsmart the stupid dragons was the phrase. "Smart. Dragon." Now cutting down to match Kaz's words." A look to to Shyrae then, seeking the same approval that she thought she may get this time. "Sky...good...smart..."
"I have a house, or a place to stay at least." Blinking at her...what did this creature know exactly? "Not afraid...just wise to obligational imposition." And then it was right back to rider talk and apparently Malik had a word or thought to to add as well. "Yes...dragon eggs are kept very hot, uncomfortably so for other races to be near them too much. The hatchlings can die still in their eggs if the temperature is off...." Swallowing and her voice getting a tad shake to it. "Rider dragons are easy to spot. They're little and...they don't have any...blades or spines. Only horns and talons...."
She rolled her eyes. "If I don't like playing with myself and well we are more or less a match in the female department, then I don't think I'd find interest in you either. And I don't like scaley things and thick nonbreathable wing membranes." Though she did think that she was rather amsued over this all. "Come now, that's an odd offer in and of itself...I thought I infuriated you...looking to outdo me in bed to prove your superiority?"

"I don't how to teach her to change though... I can't remember myself. It's so second nature." He looked back to the young dragon though, frown not wanting to fade until she managed those three words together. She couldn't be associating their kind with such negative concepts, those links she'd made with the Riders had to be broken. Why was he getting so into this...? But taking her words as understanding of his own, he smiled. "Good." Man of little words and little praise, it seemed. Just wasn't him but he knew that he was proud of this little skyblue.

"We'll just have to teach her otherwise." But back to Kaznec and she nodded, "That's alright. Dhairiss pointed out earlier that she hasn't shown any sign of magic usage yet either. Does that have anything to do with it? Perhaps when she learns to harness her own energy, it will come naturally. And if not, we'll just start asking until we find someone who can teach her."
Grinning at the dragon, she nodded her head in approval. "That's right, Sky. Very good. You are good and very smart, too. Not a pet. Not fodder. And certainly not a beast." Thus tossing her a chunk of meat. Dhairiss was right. Baby in mind would allow her to change as she grew and understand that affection was different from being a pet. She needed the affection and treats were part of the reinforcement process.
"You really believe that, don't you? Jaebell, you fool yourself by believing such things. If certain spirits were not pure and true, they would not have lent the invitation in the first place. The dragonlord may be giving but he would not open his home to just anyone. There is a meausure of trust and compliment that goes with such an invitation."
Malik recieved a shuttered glance, revealing nothing and neither confirming or denying nothing. She knew what he knew and she also knew the truth. But right now her focus was on Jae and the connections she was beginning to make. "What about magical ability? Do they still harness that or is that stripped in this process as well? And intelligence...that seems to be stunted along with size as you pointed out."
