Slowly Bahl read the file that had slid across the screen. "You must be kidding me. Malcom Stryder?" He frowned as he skimmed the file. "The Jedi that freed Tett from the Sith is wanted by the Republic. I contacted the Republic to fight the Sith, not hunt Jedi." He closed his eyes as he thought it through, "We can't reject the request, after all we owe him. Damn." Then he stopped as something caught his eye. "Mandalorians? This just gets better and better." He shook his head slowly, "Thank you chancellor. Thank you very much."

The ship shuddered slightly as the hyperdrive disengaged. Outside the stars, which had been arrayed along only half the sky for months now were all around them. The ship was pockmarked with battle scars, and its golden finish had been tarnished with carbon and plasma hundreds of light years from the closest known allies.

It had begun the day after the Mandalorian had left. A ship dark as night, colored with black sith markings came. It searched out the shield, and took it. They had gone off in pursuit, and it had become quite the chase. The black ship had gone deep into the outer rim, and then into the unknown regions, in that vast emptiness beyond the arms of the galaxy where stars only existed every fifty light years or more they cornered the beast.

He had read of ancient battles, the campaigns of Revan and the Mandalorians, but nothing prepared him for this struggle. The black ship came at them, and he could hear it screaming in his mind. Alone he knew that he couldn't have beaten it, that his skills were insufficient for the task, but fortunately he had not been alone.

Akira had been the key. The ship screamed through the force, but some Jedi were trained to resist such attacks. She'd managed to project a mental barrier over the two of them and the 40mm slugthrowers and blasters did the rest. The ship, died.

Literally died, as the slugs bit into it great gushes of black blood spilled forth and crystallized in the vacuum. As Akira dropped the mental barrier he could hear it scream once more in the darkness of space as it's squid like body stopped and moved no more. Over the course of the trip they'd learned surprisingly little about the ship, but continuing updates from Obroa-skai had given them a great deal of information about the shield, at least until they'd left known space, somehow the scholars had been able to anticipate their course and sent courier ships ahead of them. It was information that the scholars gleamed from holo-images they'd taken and the incomplete sensor scan but it had revealed some things. This proved to be quite useful once they'd pulled the shield from the guts of the dead vessel.

They now knew what the markings meant on the shield, and the question that was scrawled in a dozen different languages around the rim. "Fear leads to anger, curiosity leads to knowledge, lust to passion, but from what does love lead?" In addition the Obroa-skai scholars admitted that they had mistranslated one of the central symbols. Instead of control the symbol meant trust.

Still neither Akira nor Saul could get the shield to react to them, it was as though they were rejected, not the answers they were giving. Now they were on their way back.

The comm crackled, "This is Ord Canfre control to Merchant's Sword please respond."

Beside Saul in the copilot's seat Akira Kali smiled as she flicked the transmission switch, "Roger that control. It's good to be back."

Demaia sat in her command chair, her fingers steepled and a dire glare in her eyes.
A small chronometer was projected in the corner of her glasses, telling her the time.
She was not pleased.
"It should not take this long to reel a ship into the bay..." She stated. "Its as if a week has passed. Marr will pay for this annoyance. Him and his entire pathetic planet."
"My Lady," A crewer said to her, "We just landed their craft in the third auxilary landing bay."
"Bring them to me." She said darkly, her amber eyes glowing with malice. "Immediately."

"Where do I come in?" Jakar inquired.

Siren paused for a moment, before taking the offered amulet. " Hopefully such a situation won't come to pass. " she said. Moments later, they found themselves in one of the hangars of the Star Empress. " It seems we'll have to continue this talk later. Lady Demaia must be growing impatient, so we'd better not keep her waiting. "

She walked down the access ramp and went over to the waiting guards, ready to go the moment Marr joined them.

Coruscant docking bay, Astral Chaos

Dumbfounded Melissa looked down the ramp at the younger jedi, blinking her lavender eyes in remembrance. It had been another lifetime ago, when she had been a jedi, and before that a padawan.

“Um, no, Saria, it’s not my ship, but if you’re lookin' for ride off planet you’ll have to board now as we’re in a bit of a rush.” She stepped to one side of the hatch to allow Saria past and pushed the com panel.

“Looks like we got us a passenger Cap’, other than that we’re good to go.”

" Thank you. " Saria said, walking up the ramp. " I'm ready to go whenever you are. I'm sorry it has to be a last-minute deal like this, but I'll try not to get in the way of anything. "

"A Passenger?" Randall commed back to Melissa, before he quashed his curiosity. I'll deal with it later, he thought, activating the Astral Chaos' primary liftoff sequence, readying himself to bring the antique freighter up into the sky. For now, I've got to get out of here before system security gets too... inquisitive about the whole Nilar thing...
"Tee Nine, go see if Melissa needs anything." Randall said to the droid, whose saucer-shaped head was peering inquisitively into the cockpit of the Chaos. The utility droid beeped an affirmation and went back to the entrance area to meet Melissa and Saria.
Thumbing the com panel, Randall relayed a quick message back to whoever was listening. "Melissa, whoever you are, Come on into the ship, so I can close the boarding ramp and bring us up into the sky. I'll get us a safe distance from the planet, then y'all can come on up here, and I can meet our... guest. Dahn out."

“Um, no problem.” Melissa replied, still a little confused by Sarias sudden appearance, retracting the boarding ramp and closing the hatch as soon as she was aboard.

“Hatch sealed Cap, make this thing fly.” She spoke into the com panel on the wall.

“Come on, I’ll show you to a seat as like I said, we’re in a bit of a rush.” She smiled at Saria and waved for her to follow.
“Oh, and this is Tee-9.” She gestured at the little droid entering the common area of the ship and pointed towards the acceleration couch. “You might want to strap in, it gets a little bumpy brakin’ atmo and enterin’ hyper.” She grinned and turned to face the little droid.

“Tee-9, watch over our passenger ok, I’ll be right back.” Melissa instructed the droid and headed up t the cockpit of the Astral Chaos.

"Gotcha", Randall said, bringing the Astral Chaos up from the ground of the docking bay, and blasted off into the Coruscant sky.

"Not a moment too soon" he muttered to himself, noticing in the rear viewport that a small group of Republic Troopers converging on the docking bay, presumably to take in Ranall and Melissa for questioning.
He noticed Melissa entering the cockpit in the periphery of his vision, but kept his focus on the viewport and flying instruments, as he blasted towards the atmosphere of the city-planet.

"Take a seat, and man the scanners. Let me know if we're about to have any company." He said. Planetary security would probably be trying to stop them from leaving, and once they left so quickly without clearance, any Republic ships in orbit would probably take an interest as well. Randall knew his attention wouuld be needed to avoid the traffic lanes of airspeeders and other ships entering or leaving Coruscant's atmosphere, so he was relying on Melissa to warn him of any Republic Entanglements.

“On it.” Melissa said, sliding into the co-pilots seat and strapping in. Dawning the headset her fingers danced across the instruments as she dialed in the ships sensors and began scanning the com channels. “Traffic control is screaming the normal things about heaving to or there’ll be consequences. Their also waning all civilian traffic to clear the area. Looks like we made them mad, I’m picking up four Aureks lifting off from the starport, doesn’t look like any of the capital ships have moved yet.”
PostPosted: Wed Jun 03, 2009 12:53 pm

"Well, that's not as bad as could be hoped for." Randall said, blasting up through the upper limits of Coruscant's atmosphere. "When the Aureks start getting close, angle the deflector shields. But let's keep the weapons unarmed, I don't want to fire back unless it's absolutely necessary."

As the viewport of the Astral Chaos began to glow red with the heat of a dangerously-quick trip through the planet's atmosphere, Randall, holding the ship steady, with some effort, punched the comm button. "Tee Nine, get up here! I need you!"

The little droid arrived in the cockpit just as the Chaos blasted through the upper limit of the planet's atmosphere out into the icy blackness of space. "I'm going to try and get us far enough away from the gravitational well to get into hyperspace." He said to Tee Nine. "Start charting us a quick hyperspace jump. I don't care where to. Just make it fast."

Turning his attention to Melissa, he asked "How're we doing? Any ships getting close?"

“How about three Hammerheads coming in from the northern hemisphere on an intercept vector.” She announced to him, her eyes still locked on the data scrolling across several monitors. “Looks like two of them are gun-boat variants... the thirds a carrier and it’s launching fighters.”
PostPosted: Wed Jun 03, 2009 9:38 pm

"Kriff!" Randall cursed, glancing at the formation of the fighters quickly approaching the Chaos in the port side viewport. The fighters were approaching in a fairly standard formation, rapidly screaming towards the freighter.

"How are those jump coordinates going, Tee Nine?" He asked the droid, who responded in a manner indicating that the coordinates weren't set, and that they weren't far enough from Coruscant in any case.

"Kirflag!" Randall exclaimed, beginning to get pretty worried. "This could be bad. I've been in worse scrapes, but not by much... But I don't think the fighters will fire on us unless..."

Randall's words were cut off as the Astral Chaos was hit by laserfire from the fighters, rocking the freighter as they flew past it and began to turn around to make another pass.

"Nevermind that then." Randall said, "Looks like I'm gonna have to try out that maneuver I've been working on... Melissa, transfer all shield power to the foreward shields, and the rest of the auxilury power to the main engines. This could get bumpy!"

Randall turned the Astral Chaos away from his previous direction, and began speeding directly towards the oncoming gun-boats, going as fast as possible to avoid the oncoming fighters, screaming towards them from behind, rotating the freighter evasively to avoid the turbolaser fire coming towards them from the front.

“Settin, shields double front,” Melissa reach up and threw back a few leavers on the console. “Lockin, in auxiliary power too the main drives.”
