I concur. I'd elaborate but I think people should watch it first. xd

So....Star Trek. Where to begin? The wife and I saw it this morning. I was great. The casting was very good and the actors did a good job. Standouts were Pegg as Scotty and Quinto as Spock. Quinto was absolutely perfect as Spock. Possibly the best Trek movie ever.

On a humorous sidenote....The Onion has a report about Trekkies hating the movie for being "fun and watchable." I thought this was one of their normal made up stories until I lurked the Trek forums. Yowza...there is a vocal(and rabid) contingent of fans who despise the movie.

Went and saw it last night. Before we went, we stopped at Taco Bell for a quick bite. My mom mentioned to the server that we were going to see a movie. He asks "which one?" My mom (who is a massive Trek fan) says "what other movies ARE there?" And the guy proceeds to go off on a rant about how awful this movie is! It JUST came out! He says "Well, I'm a big fan of the OLD show..." and my dad turns to me and says "He wasn't BORN when the old show was on."

We all sorta shook our heads about that one.

I liked it. I was big into Trek when it was...y'know...good...back in High School. But I haven't ever cared for the movies, though First Contact was cute. I enjoyed this one a lot. Great popcorn movie.

Honestly, I was never into Star Trek. The inquisitive being that I am, I've looked into it a bit, and I'd say I have more knowledge on it than your av-er-age bear, but I've never actually watched the original series. After that movie, I kind of want to.

Ridiculously good casting. The trailers made me think Pine was going to come off as annoying, but I thought he did a fantastic job. Quinto was another I had doubts about, but they definitely didn't last. Pegg, Yelchin, Cho, Urban, Saldana, Bana... All fantastic. Didn't see as much of Bones as I'd have liked, though. What I thought was great was how Abrams reconciled the original continuity with this using string theory. Very well done. And the actions scenes... Man. Was Star Trek always this cool? My verdict: Best popcorn flick since Iron Man.

Star Trek and I have a odd and wonderful history. I think it goes without saying I am not old enough to have experienced the series first time around, but I have certainly seen the show; in its many forms.

I was never a trekkie (or trekker, take your pick) in the sense I knew the world of Star Trek in and out and have seen every episode ever in order like I have with The X-Files and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. No, that was never my case. I have always been more in tune with the overarching theme, point, and celebration that is Star Trek; love, exploration, collaboration, and diversity in the face of the many multidimensional, degrees, and ways of hate. I love the characters more then the sci-fi. I love the relationships more then the ship. I love the message more then how it is presented. On those aspects, Star Trek and I have always clicked. My love for Mr. Spock sat me in front of the TV after school religiously from 5th grade through 8th (and with receiving the Star Trek the Animated Series box set from my sister for Christmas 2 years ago I've sat down to watch nearly episode of it as well after my college classes at 20 years old xd ).

As such, I thought the the newest film fit well within the world/the feel of the original series and was a very fun and acceptable summer film; as well as a very suitable first film for a "new" franchise.

I also loved how it fully explained the place of the reboot. The magic words spoken in-film for me?:
"A alternate universe." Not a original concept (although interestingly enough one pioneered by Star Trek), but such a move appeases the hardcore fans - in theory- and gives new fans a clear slate so to speak while setting up the ability to use the same known and loved characters with their common and known traits but without continuity limitations and issues . Not that Star Trek was ever big on continuity. Best of all though was that they completely addressed it in plain language in the film. Not in a comic tie-in, not in a interview, not after the film was released. In the friggin' film. AWESOME PRACTICAL CHOICE.

So yeah, I loved it. Heeeh. heart

There are a few things I'm looking for, and hope someone can help me.

My Older brother told me he has been getting into the Doctor Who and Torch Wood. Problem is, I am having troubles finding them so I can set my DVR. I found Doctor Who on Sci Fi at 5 am on Thursday, but I could only find the option "Record On this Channel any time", and I couldn't find Torch Wood.

I also checked the BBC but couldn't find either show. Does anyone know if they have a regular time they show?

For my other question, I've also been getting into Samurai films. I was wondering if anyone knew any good Revenge Samurai films?

Looks like Torchwood is showing on BBC America; this has the schedule to the right, but this is the latest season. You'll probably have to hit the internets or buy the season DVDs to catch up. (Linda, you should recognize one of the names there. 8D I'm officially looking forward to this season.)

If you have a Xbox and NetFlix I know you can stream pretty much the entirety (Doctors 1-10) of Who, but I don't think Torchwood is up on the instant stream yet.

Oh, I though Torch Wood was one of those show you can pick up on any episode, at lest that what my older brother told me.

So, for all those that have seen the House, M.D. finale... someone on another forum I frequent suggested that "the psychiatrist from Bones should guest next season as a doctor". The psychiatrist character is played by Stephen Fry.

...anyone else think this would be an idea so awesome, it could never actually happen?

Never watched Bones, but I'd love to see Stephen Fry working with Laurie again, and I could see that6 working. That season finale was a bombshell, by the way. I think they pulled it off.

Speaking of season finales, anybody watching Lie To Me? Season finale was decent, but last week's episode was nothing short of brilliant. They definitely should've switched up the order.

Stephen Fry is in Bones?

Now I have to check out that show. Goddamnit.
