I've only seen the first two Aliens. Not really my cup of tea, but I did enjoy them. I was going to look into 3, especially since Fincher did it, and I've yet to see a weak effort from him, but I've heard almost universally bad things, so I've never bothered. Heard that Ressurection is just more of the same too, but I haven't seen it, so don't quote me on that.

*slowly raises hand*

I'm about the only person who didn't hate the third Alien film. In fact, when I get a hold of the director's cut, I do in fact enjoy it. It's a much slower film, and certainly the weakest of the three original movies (the fourth has its own slew of problems).
It followed the sort of formula that I think worked very well for those films. The first was a sort of space thriller. The second was an action film. The third was something else entirely. I get the sense that it wanted to be a sort of post-apocalyptic horror. While all of them play on isolation, the third was really trying for a sense of abandonment. Here is where you are and no one is coming for you.
I can't agree with all of it, it's got some sloppy editing and it's obvious that part of the resulted film was the fault of an endless series of script changes (changed ideas, changed concepts, changed characters, changed WRITERS).

But it's not anywhere near as terrible as people make it out to be. It's got some interesting ideas and some interesting film-work.

It's always been about the Buzzcocks for me. I wish I could get it over here, hell I wish I could just find it online even. His episode was great, it had Donny Turrets on it.

Ohmygosh yes! That one is one of my favorite episodes; "That is like a child dizzy on lemonade." xd
Why on earth is it that when the States feel like transporting television ideas they take Idol and ignore Buzzcocks? Is it because our celebrities aren't as good sports?

Yeah, 3 seems pretty good. At the part where the prisoners are making their last stand.

I agree with the directors cut statement about Aliens 3; it improves the film, albeit it doesn't "save" it. The key issue with 3, for me, was how little I cared about what happened to the prisoners; there was no build up like of the supporting cast like in the first two films.

As for Buzzcocks, I don't think it would do well in the US. Currently famous/popular TV stars generally don't do quiz shows unless it's a charity thing. BUT - they do do talk shows... So who the hell knows why? Blerg. gonk

The series takes its name from Bowie's song "Life on Mars?" from the album Hunky Dory and plays a part in the first episode.
