You know Ian Anderson didn't start until he was 20, right? Even then, he taught himself while playing it in the back of his van or whatever between gigs.
I'm going to see him this fall! He's playing the orchestral jethro tull with the portland symphony orchestra. 3nodding

Ho s**t!
I just s**t!

Well not really, but that's pretty bad a**.

Seriously! I am not a huge fan of Jethro Tull as a band, but Ian Anderson would be pretty damn amazing to see in person. I have one of his live solos on my computer.

Novel: Nah, it didn't sound conceited. I am glad you're doing well now, and it is comforting to know that someone understands what I mean. It is awesome that you saved up for your own flute, too. 3nodding Incredible; other people our age are more centered with getting cars, and we want instruments because we are that freakin' cool.
Haha yeah, recently when I was talking flute prices with my mom, she was like "God, this is just like buying a car!".

I've never heard of him... feel free to slap me. D:
I still have lots to learn. sweatdrop
But... that's comforting. I'll go look him up, now. =D

Ooh... I've heard of them. :3

My mom tells me I should go back to percussion next year, because nobody will ever get famous playing flute 'cause everyone plays it. D:
I'm not entirely sure I want to switch to flute though... like at first I practiced tons, but all of a sudden now when I try and practice I just get really frustrated for some reason, and stop. =

Help meh. T__T

I dunno, what I like about playing flute is that it's very very hard to be recognized, because competition is so tough, because so many people play flute. So when I became one of the best (in my state), I felt very accomplished.

=O

Today I found out a music store downtown has a lady who offers flute lessons. ninja

I'd have to beg my mother... my dad pays for me to take drum lessons... but there's nothing wrong with doing two things is there? =O
I mean it's not like I'll be a crap drummer if I don't do percussion... I've spent a year in it and there's not much else to know (minus keyboard percussion-but I'm not really that good at it anyway) so I don't know if it's going to kill me to take up flute... right?

Should I? =O

Why not? If you are having fun with it and want to try taking lessons, then go for it. Taking lessons will help you get better more than teaching yourself on your own, and it is always more fun to broaden your horizons!

I want to.. my mom is really opposed, though. She says I don't have much excitement for my drums and don't practice enough anymore... o.o I do though, I love it still and I won't ever not practice them...

Is there anything wrong with learning two instruments at once? They're so completely different, so I don't get why she'd be so opposed... this is my 9th month of playing drums, so I know the majority of everything, and I don't think it's really a bad time to start on something else also.

Plus, with percussion I learned nearly everything in one year. I learn all the rudiments and stuff at lessons, and that's really all that's left to learn in percussion for me (minus keyboard perc., but yeah... i'm not going to go into that) what else is there? Bass drum is easy, snare is easy, I played all of our auxiliary...

Anyone else think it's a good time for me to learn something else new, then? sweatdrop

Why is your mum so adverse to you playing flute, though, if you still practice your drums? If you're good at the drums, then it isn't as though your talent will just die. Playing an instrument is like learning to ride a bicycle -- you never forget! You can play the flute in concert band and the drums in jazz ensemble, so...

If anything, at least your director may be impressed that you can double. It really doesn't make sense why they are so opposed, and I don't know what to tell you, sorry. =/

I have no clueee. They're both scary. xD Tomorrow I'm going to hand in a bunch of applications to different stores so even if my mom says no, I can pay for flute lessons myself. ninja Yeah, that's how much I want to take them now. It'll really help prepare me for next year and keep me motivated, I think.

And hey, yes you do forget! I took a year of violin in grade 4 and forgot everything. You don't know HOW much I regret not going on with them... I'm a retard. xD

Wow, I'm suprised how many people play the flute here, but why should I be? So many people play the flute these days. xD
I'm thinking of taking up a new instrument, but I haven't got the time.
And my parents are concerned, because I can hardly play my flute now.
But at least I've convinced them to let me get surgery during the summer, so I can play in school next year.
Of course the bones in my arm have to get messed up. ><
