Ayame Tori Training: 4/30 or 1/18 successful rolls
DC: 15 (rolled a 14)

"Finest...secrets...?" Shin's expression grew suspicious. "And why would the Hyuuga queen interest to help me?"
"A time back..." Yokou began. But then, she fell silent. "..." A lengthy pause. "I will tell you...that story can be saved for another day...but for now, all you need to do is trust me." "What are the stakes?" Shin's voice was quiet. "Your life or death." Responded Yokou. "Those gauntlets, fine chakra filtering type they are cannot last forever. A shinobi's chakra levels will continuously expand until his prime... You can call it an "inevitable curse". For Senju, they loose command of how many trees summoned at once in a whole forest group. That slightest miscalculation, will cost them a fraction of their lifespan. And for you...especially even more for your Hyouton creation type..." Her voice trailed off. "I'm certain Shin-kun is aware of the consequences well already."

"So...command my kekkai genkai or die even earlier..." Shin closed his eyes. Images of Gig, Keiko, and Maiyuri flooded his mind. Though they were only "family" for a short while...as grudging as Shin was for them to so quickly replace his own deceased family...his parents, his clan, his former life... And of course, Rai...Shizuka...even that idiot Cronos... "I can't die yet." Shin's usual pale gray-blue eyes turned steely with determination. "I have too many things to do." He met Yokou's offer with newfound confidence.

"I accept." He whispered, extending his own hand.

Hyuuga clan's secrets on chakra control... The family most hailed for their incredibly precise control...their fighting style, worthy of the "eight triagrams" insignia that clan proudly bore indeed... Shin gently fingered the shinobi wire wound around his gauntlet, kept in the ridge near the end...

The realization now was clear: Yokou didn't pick Ayame Tori out for the purposes of offensive teaching. She was introducing the technique to him as a building block.

Hitomi stood on the edge of the cliff, looking balefully over the desert-like terrain. She watched the river below her, slicing the terrain in two. Her hand rose to her left shoulder. Where it used to be. She touched her right eye. Where it used to be. She looked down at her fingers, five pitch black snakes wound around her fingers, ten blood red, shining eyes staring back at her. She was a bird. Why couldn't she just jump, and see if she really could fly? She had no control over anything in her life. She couldn't even share it with anyone. She truly was alone. She felt like a tiger in a cage, when she knew she was just a trained hawk. She stood, balanced on her heels, standing hundreds of feet above the rocky floor. A stiff breeze could carry her over. She wanted to fall. So she did. She leaned forward, falling parallel to the ground.

freedom Hitomi fell, watching the ground approach her, forever away, slowly at first, and then gravity began working its magic. Soon, in her position, she reached her terminal velocity, and she could make out some details on the rocky surface. She smiled. I know no one's going to try to catch me. If I don't do it, no one will. The one last thing she had control over. One last choice to make. The choice would make itself known to her. She would figure it out at some point. Until then, she could just wait. The joy of falling was catching up to her, and it broke through the unfeeling void she'd wrapped herself in. It would be a shame never to experience it again, wouldn't it? What's the point in dying to milk it of every ounce of joy? Not the most convincing argument, but it was the only thing she'd been given, and tipped the scale.

Hitomi flipped a kunai out of her pouch, and turned to face the cliff's face. Of course, the kunai wouldn't help her to slow down at this speed, but it would help later. She would try to hold onto the wall using her chakra, and slow herself down. Even with her light frame and strong bones, she'd still shatter on that ground. She focused her chakra to her hand and her feet, pressing them against the wall, holding the kunai in her mouth. Now wouldn't it suck to die because you're just not good enough to live?

Hitomi felt herself grind against the wall, but no chakra stuck her there. She still had time, but she didn't want to push her luck. More talent would mean she could go farther down, but right now, it was just a genin who still didn't know anything more than the most basic of jutsu. She focused again. She focused her chakra to her hand and feet, and her teeth pressed against the hilt of the kunai, keeping her from screaming. Out of frustration or fear, she didn't want to find out.

She was losing time. She felt her second attempt blast her back from the wall again. She calmed herself, taking deep breaths (as best she could) and facing the wall directly. She had at least managed to slow herself down some. She needed to get this right. Chisaki could never take her seriously if she couldn't protect herself. GAH!!!! I'M TIRED OF THIS!!! Hitomi forced her chakra into her hand and feet, pressing herself against the cliff so closely that the right side of her headband was scratched by a passing rock.

She slid off again. She was running extremely low on time. She was still falling relatively slowly, though, being extremely un-aerodynamic. Her loose clothing was catching the wind, and her constant presses against the wall were slowing her down, but not enough. She focused herself completely on her task, and eased herself into this attempt. She gradually applied more pressure, increasing her chakra flow in line with it. Come on, you can't be completely useless.

It stuck. Hitomi felt herself slowing by almost half of her initial velocity. Good. Now just a little bit more. Hitomi wouldn't be seriously injured (if at all) from a fall at this speed, but she wanted to try to completely stop. She eased more chakra through her extremities, pulling herself into an almost crouching position to get as much surface area on the wall as possible. She was watching the ground beneath her, approaching at a snail's pace compared to its past speeds. I can do this.

Hitomi slowed... And she stopped just thirty feet above the ground. I did it. Hitomi turned around, looking back up at the wall she'd just slid down, noting that it showed no sign of her descent. She was not so lucky. Her hand was scraped and scratched from the rocks, but it was nothing pressing. She began walking back up to where she'd just come down from, ignoring her surroundings. When she got back to the top, she stood on the edge, balanced on her heels, facing directly towards the sky. She let go.

Falling with your back to the ground was different. It had a calming effect. She felt like she could go to sleep. She pushed her arm out beside her, letting resistance push her into an upright position. She pressed herself gently against the wall. It still felt soothing. She sighed. Does it really have to end? She already knew the answer. She eased her chakra through her body and focused on slowing herself down. Someday, I won't have to stop. She promised herself.

Hitomi took her most recent failure in stride. She pressed herself against the wall again, wondering if she was sabotaging herself, so that someone else could make the choice for her. No one else is here. It's gotta be me. That's what makes falling so much fun. It's got to be you. Hitomi sighed and eased chakra through her hand and feet, hoping it would catch so she could just give up already. If she could just stop falling, she wouldn't have to keep working at this. It was depressing her. It reminded her of everything that she couldn't do, and everyone she couldn't have.

She was once again pushed away from the wall. She didn't even bother looking down. She was tired. She was sick of it. She was never going to be worth anything at this rate, she was never going to experience reciprocated love, she would never have her wings, and she would never amount to anything in the village. She was pretty much worthless. She even cost more than she was worth having them train her, remove her arm, and who knew how much she owed the hospital for those bills. She sighed, pushing herself against the wall, growing suddenly angry.

too hard. Hitomi was pushed several feet back from the wall. She leaned back and let herself be carried towards the wall. She had started much higher than before, and was going much slower. You would imagine it would be easier. Who knows? She sighed again, deciding that this was the last time for today. She suddenly grew extremely calm. Calmer than before. Calmer than she'd ever been. She forgot about everything, and felt completely separated from the world. She remember the Hermit. She had warned of this. Strangely enough, that old woman had predicted this happening. Hitomi felt her chakra in every pore of her body, just waiting to be released. She put her feet and hand forward, heeding its wishes.

She still felt that calm. She was completely outside of this situation. She watched the girl in front of her bounce off the wall again. Come on. You can do it. To Hitomi, every mistake this girl made was obvious. She needed to focus more. Come on. You're halfway down. You need to get yourself slowed down. The girl was just going to crumble if she hit the ground at the bottom of this thing. She needed to focus.
