Mia, shook her head, casting the frustrations away. Life was too short to be bugged by something so small. She really didn't care what Roark though of her anymore. So what if she had high level Pokemon? What was she supposed to do? Go out and catch a weak Pokemon just to accommodate his needs? Haha, yeah right! Mia's Pokemon just weren't Pokemon, they were her friends and each one of them weren't caught in the traditional sense.

Either way, she knew there was completely nothing wrong or negative with that she was doing. While Roark had some sort of problem with losing to well trained Pokemon she knew her father didn't. Again, any Gym Leader should have been impressed with how well their the trainer's Pokemon was trained. Their job was not to win, but to evaluate the trainer's progress. It also wasn't part of their duty to limit a trainer's growth if they chose train their Pokemon beyond the evaluation level.

But Mia was over thinking things. Her Pokemon had been with her before she even left for her adventure, they were bound to be a bit stronger than the average new trainer. And again, there was nothing wrong with that. Not everyone in the world was going to like her, she knew this. However, unfavorably this Gym Leader was looking down on her. . . well she wouldn't let it bug her or affect her. There were bound to be people in this world that just didn't understand where others came from. They just had no sense of understanding or empathy.

As she was thinking she didn't notice the earth below her Tangela begin to shake and rumble. And then suddenly, without warning Jello was launched into the air by a particularly powerful Dig. Mia blinked, a bit surprised, a critical hit? How unlucky!

"Um, Jello! Use Mega Drain to stop flying like that!" Mia cried frantically, waving her hand above her head back and forth. The girl doubled over laughing. She wiped a tear away, and looked up to Roark, giving him a thumbs up, "That was a nice hit!" Now that she had stopped being frustrated or over thinking she was having a much better time with the battle. Battles, after all, were supposed to be fun.

Jello who was currently flipping over and over in the air tried hard to gain some kind of balance. She launched four vines anywhere she could at the Onix's body, trying to wrap the blue green appendages around the Rock Snake Pokemon not only to heal herself, but to prevent herself from flying into the ceiling or walls of the Gym itself. Because, ouch! That would be painful.

----------==========----------

"Turtwig! Bite!" Gardenia shouted, issuing the attack as fast as Katie had called out for another Wing Attack. If the Grass type got hit, it would mean a knock out. Gardenia smiled, thoroughly enjoying the battle even though she was losing. If this trainer could do so well, she didn't doubt that she'd be worthy of the Forest Badge.

Turtwig ran as fast as he could, which unfortunately wasn't very fast. The paralysis had taken advantage of his weakened state. While his muscles had never completely seized up the paralysis was slowly eating away at his mobility. The poor Grass type could barely break into a run now, and that was with all his effort.

Again, unfortunately, Turtwig was too slow despite all the effort he put in to push himself to give one last attack. Noa's Wing Attack hit dead on it's target. Turtwig's limp body was thrown rolling onto the floor before being promptly stopped by a tree trunk. It was safe to say the Pokemon had fainted.

"You did good Turtwig," Gardenia compliment her Pokemon quietly as she recalled him back into his Pokeball.

"The Leader's Turtwig is unable to battle!" Suki judged, raising a white flag on Gardenia's half of the field. She looked to Gardenia with a smile. She could tell that her leader was having a good time and that she was happy with the ability of this trainer.

"That was really amazing Katie!" Gardenia laughed, "Let's see how you handle my last Pokemon! Roserade, I choose you!"

The Bouquet Pokemon appeared out on the field in a majestic display of lights and movements. She was both elegant and deadly, especially with her Poison Point ability.

"Attack with Weather Ball!" the Grass Leader commented, pointing at the Staravia.

Roserade nodded, lifting her two flowers into the sky, summoning a ball of white light before throwing it with a wide arc of her arms to the opponent.

Maipe took a nasty hit to his left side; the Oddish definitely knew what he was doing. He walked around with a limp as he stared down the Weed Pokemon.

That Oddish has some positive qualities, and if Maipe was stronger, I would catch it. But, not yet. He needs the experience, Mahnaz thought to herself.

"Bite, Maipe!" she yelled. The Growlithe complied with ease as it got a better hold on the Oddish. No matter which way it went, Maipe wouldn't let go. "Ember!" The Growlithe let go and set another stream of small fire at the Oddish, but it dodged it. "What do we have to do here?" Maipe, however, acted without a command and chased the Oddish down, glaring right at it. "Bite!" The Growlithe grabbed on as the Oddish gave up the fight. Maipe let go and walked back to his trainer, happy he won. He still had a limp and a few scratches, but was in good spirits. "It's gonna be a while before we can get you healed up boy. Can you wait?"

"Lithe!" Maipe exclaimed happily. Finally, he had proven himself in a battle, and he had the wounds to prove it. "Growl!"

"Take 'er easy Maipe. First, we'll have to get to Vermillion before we try that again. You need time to rest." And I need supplies. I should have thought about this a little better before I left town. But, these fields are pretty quiet, so there shouldn't be too many other fights. Maipe sat on the seat with pride behind his master as the two continued down the path. Maipe had the obvious advantage; fire versus grass. But, he's young and doesn't have the experience these wild Pokemon do. That's gotta have something to do with this, but how much? And when we face the Pewter Gym Leader, which is rock from what I heard, how will my Growlithe survive? How can I possibly beat the Gym Leaders when I have the disadvantage?

"Z-zigzagoon! I want you to use Headbutt!" Lily called to her Pokemon, who groaned groggily in response. He glared up at the Beautifly dancing around in the air, and reared back.

"String Shot when the time is right," Jett commanded coolly, staring evenly at Lily. There was the gut sense that this would be the deciding move, but he instantly doubted the fact that a headbutt could take Aerosmith down.

That didn't particularly stop this round from holding the deciding move, but Jett cleared that from his mind.

Zigzagoon leapt with all his might, rocketing towards the Butterfly Pokemon. Aerosmith merely waited until the raccoon came into range, letting a String Shot to wrap around the opposing Pokemon. "Fly!" He spun, never letting go of the String Shot.

And so Zigzagoon flew forward before he was abruptly jerked to the left, swinging toward a tree. He was inches from the trunk before he was swung upwards, and the Tinyraccoon Pokemon heard a sharp snap! and he was flying.

"No!" Lily cried from far below. "Do something!"

"Tackle," Jett called calmly. "Then make sure it doesn't fall." Aerosmith quickly reached the descending opponent, slamming him directly upwards so there was more time. A likely combination of the attacks plus the fear had brought Zigzagoon to near-fainting, and he was brought from his almost-slumber by a String Shot wrapping around him.

Aerosmith swooped again, gently lowering the Zigzagoon to the ground before disconnecting the string. Zigzagoon gave one last cry and fainted.

"..." Lily recalled her Pokemon, paling some. "H-how muc--"

"Don't have to pay," Jett said, patting Aerosmith on the head. "I really am sorry about your dress. It was a nice battle!" He offered the woman a kind smile as he recalled the Beautifly. "Wanna head to the PokeCenter?" After a half-hearted confirmation, the two began their way down the bridge, making small-talk as awkward as humanly possible.

"Thanks for escorting me here," Lily said after they had their Pokemon fully healed. "I-I'll be going now... good luck with your match with Roxanne!"

"Thanks," Jett said, smile faltering. He did not have luck before... but maybe this time? Once the woman left, his features turned sullen as he emerged into the nice day, eyes flickering around.

He really wanted to find someone like Crush or Leon again. For some reason, he wanted to talk to someone who was ready to take on Roxanne. Maybe their confidence would rub off on him...

Leon let out a little sigh. Few people had moved from their places on the bridge, nobody that had seemed like a decent opponent had walked by. In fact, no one had walked by. It wasn't a very popular spot right now, so Leon decided to just head back to Rustboro for a little bit. Roxanne was only the first gym leader, so at most she'd have three Pokémon, and probably not even that. Yeah, it was much more likely to be only two. Muuma was pretty strong, so she could take out at least one all by herself, and Ghos could probably handle the other one. And even if not, both him and Muuma combined should be able to take them out.

Leon straightened up and put his hands into the pocket of his coat, beginning to short walk back to Rustboro City.

Jett was heading back to the forest, perhaps to get lost again so he could train forever and ever and come out all strong and stuf--

He paused, blinking. Walking down the bridge was none other than Leon, who he had just been wishing to see! What a crazy, random coincidence!

"LEON." Jett stood proudly at the end of the bridge, a welcoming grin offered to the person he believed to be his friend.

However, that's not exactly how Jett looked. From Leon's likely angle, the boy stood at the end of the bridge, the sun catching him at an angle so his face glowed. His lips curled back in a feral smile, and the other trainers on the bridge wondered if the gates to hell would open up.

"Hi, Leon!" Jett was oblivious to how creepy he might've looked. He waved energetically. "Are you off to fight Roxanne!?" That was his question of the day. Or week.

Leon had barely made it halfway across the bridge before some kid was attempting to block his exit, and as he drew closer, he unfortunately recognised the boy. It was none other than Jett, the boy he'd fought a couple of days ago after leaving Petalburg Woods.

Jett's appereance had no effect on Leon, who in fact had probably not even noticed it, as he'd seen much creepier things in his life and not been scared by those at all, either. See, having an infatuation with Ghost-types and being a scaredy cat just did not work out, which was why Leon was not one, nor had ever been, nor would ever be.

I'm still deciding," Leon said, finally stopping when he realised that Jett was not going to move out of the way for him. He could only hope that after a very, very short conversation, the boy would be on his way and he could continue his short journey back to the small city.

Leon looked so happy to see him! Jett's smile widened as he walked into normal light, happy to see someone interesting for a change.

"Well, you wanna battle to help you decide?" Jett offered, fingers training for the Pokeballs at his waist. "I've gotten stronger!"

As much as Leon disliked the boy, he had to admit that battling him would be much more of an actual battle than that fisherman's sad Magikarp, and so, with slight hesitation, Leon replied with, "Sure."

At this point, though, he made his way past Jett and off the bridge onto the land, having no desire to battle on the tiny bridge again. Though both of his Pokemon floated, and therefore had no need to worry about places to move around, Leon did not enjoy being stuck on the tiny space the bridge had to offer, and thus was seeking out a much larger place to serve as their battling arena, which in this case would be just about anywhere at either end of the bridge.

Jett's grin slightly faded with the hesitation, and he licked his lips. He tried to ignore the obvious fact that Leon did not like him and focused on the happiness of being able to rematch the older trainer.

"Thanks," he murmured, all happy pretense gone as he retrieved the first Pokeball from his belt. His eyes caught a certain glint, a spark of life for basking in the midst of the battle. "I hope I present a better challenge." Without another word, he tossed the sphere into the air, releasing Aerosmith.

"Fly?" Aerosmith had just battled and now-- Oh dear, not that one again. He had evolved during that battle into that wretched shell where he could not move. He let out a more half-hearted "Beautifly!" and readied himself for battle.

Finally, Mahnaz and Maipe made it to their first major city, Saffron, though Mahnaz conviently forgot that this was on the way to Vermillion. The convienent four direction exits made it easy to pick where you wanted to go, if anywhere. And Mahnaz definitely wanted to go, and fast. She rode her bike well into the busy streets and sighed; this was way too big for her tastes.

"Growl," Maipe said tiredly.

"We're almost to the Center now; then we'll make a game plan. I think there is a train to Johto from here in this city, but I can't say for sure. Or, maybe even to Hoenn or Sinnoh. There's a plethora of opportunities out there."

And maybe we can find someone to help us out. Not money wise, but maybe something else. Company would be good. Yeah; company. I love Maipe and I always will, but human company would be so helpful right now. I haven't been the same since Mirrikh left. I want someone to talk to. Someone that'll help me come out of my shell, and that speaks English.

“AH! MEOWTH!” Damien shrieked. That mouse shouldn’t have been able to touch his Meowth. Not with all the hardcore training they’d been doing. “Get it off you! Bite attack!”

Scarlet stared on in shock as the Meowth’s charred face lunged toward Cindy, who quickly hopped back to avoid getting chomped into. “Hey, hey!”

Cindy backpedaled, and then turned to face Scarlet. “Quil?” she asked quizzically, tilting her head to the right.

“When’d you learn Em-”

“Hey!” Damien cried, fighting back tears as his meowth frantically brushed off some charred fur off of his face. “Don’t have a conversation with that thing in the middle of our battle! I’m the best in my class, and you’re not going to treat me like a little kid! GO MEOWTH. FULL ATTACK. FURY SWIPES.”

The kitten’s eyebrows furrowed. With amazing speed, it rushed toward Cindy, screeching with rage.

“Gah! Okay! Spin around and use smoke screen when it gets in range!”

Cindy spun on her heel, slitted eyes opening up to lock onto her target. The Meowth was closer… Closer… Her cheeks puffed out, and then she shot a stream of jet black smoke directly into that poor Meowth’s eyes. Other than the horrible pain that came out of having a concentrated smoke blast caught under its eyelids, Meowth’s visibility was additionally clouded by the cloak of ash hovering about its face.

Cindy took that opportunity to hop back in the air. The burning patch on her back grew brighter, a fire ball blasting out toward the dazed, blind, and confused Meowth. On contact with the poor Scratch Cat Pokemon, it burst into a tiny flaming pillar, finally knocking it on its rear.

“That’s enough, Cindy. C’mon back.” With that order, Cindy stuck her tongue out at the growling Meowth and trotted back over to Scarlet, sitting beside him.

Damien ran over to his Meowth, overjoyed to learn that the burns he suffered were limited to singed fur. He glanced over at Scarlet. “Thanks for the match.”

“You did really well, Kid. Now I see why you’re the best in your class. Well. Got a tower to climb! I’ll see yah around!” And, with Cindy at his heels, Scarlet weaved his way through the crowd of frowning 2nd graders to the ladder that would lead him to the second floor.

Leon reached into his coat and pulled out Ghos' PokéBall from one of the six special pockets sewn into the inside of it for that purpose. He pressed the button to enlarge it, and then pressed it once more to open it and release the Gas Pokémon.

Ghos was a bit surprised, as he recognised the trainer but not the Pokémon that was now in front of him, and he was pretty sure that it hadn't been very long since Leon had used him in a battle against the boy. Then again, he had fainted, so maybe this had been one of the other Pokémon he'd used later?

Leon, however, was aware that Beautifly was a possible final evolution of Wurmple, and was therefore not surprised to see the Butterfly Pokémon flitting about in front of Jett. This simply meant that the boy had, in fact, been training fairly well.

"I assume I'm first, then," Leon said. "Will-o-wisp." The Pokémon had begun to make creepy faces at the Beautifly, attempting to give it a little scare before beginning the battle, and thus completely disregarding Leon's command. After a sharp, "Ghos," from Leon, though, the Ghost-type sent out the bluish-white flames towards Aerosmith, hopefully being close enough not to give the bug enough time to dodge them.

Geez, does this guy keep everything in his coat? That's amazing, Jett thought in awe. Then he recognize the opponent, who thankfully had not evolved.

So it was that Gastly that River had taken. Jett's head tilted a fraction to the left, wondering if Aerosmith could handle himself in this battle. Then he smiled, placing total faith in the Buttefly Pokemon.

Aerosmith, on the other hand, was unaffected by the Gastly's antics, merely gazing dispassionately at the Ghost-type with half-lidded eyes. He let out an irritated "Beautifly." and awaited commands.

Jett was faintly aware of what Will-o-wisp could do. Something about some status... but he had to react to it. "Hey, tell you what. Take the hit, respond with Gust."

Aerosmith utterly loathed taking hits, so he waited, gathering power as he felt the flames made contact. Nothing seemed to happen except it got really hothothothot! He was burning! "B-beautifly!" Angrily, his wings began to flap, sending a powerful Gust towards the opposing Pokemon. That'll show him!
