Novel: Lucky! What kind? I'm looking into getting a new one either senior year or when I get into a music school.
I'm not sure yet. I'm going to be getting like, a pro pro, so what I have to do is talk to this flute dealer near me (he also fixes my flutes, he's amazing) and tell him what brands I want to try out, and then I choose one and choose what specifications I want and then the company makes it and I make the buy through the dealer. I'm most likely going to be looking at Brannens, Powells, Haynes, and Miyazawas. I'm guessing i'm going to end up going with either a brannen or a powell though, because those are my favorites. I'm going to be a junior this coming year and I think i'm going to get it half way through the year, because I need it to be broken in by the fall of my senior year when I start auditioning at schools.

Wow. I've only ever heard good things about Haynes and Powells. : )

Yeah, my too. I've also only heard good things about Brannens. The teacher i'm switching to in the fall plays on a Brannen that cost like..20,000 I think. Which is crazy. This girl Chelsea (I hate saying "this girl" but she's not really my friend, I know her because she's in everything i'm in, districts, all state, my wind ensemble and my orchestra) just got a $12,000 Brannen and it's absolutely beautiful.

Flutes are so expensive. : / I just want a comfortable open hole flute with a B foot and silver body, Well, I'd settle for just a silver head, actually.

Yeah, I hate how expensive they are. Yeah, that's the kind of flute I have right now. I really love it, but i'm just ready to move up to the next level of instrument. Plus once I get my new flute, I can use the flute I have now for marching band and such, so I won't have to use my student at all.

I'd just like to get beyond a student model. ^ ^;
Bleh, I got a pro sax, I shouldn't really be complaining then, since flute is just a double.

You wanna know something funny? Your teacher could have gotten a brand new Selmer bass sax with what he payed for his flute.

Haha. It's really too bad that Selmer isn't one of the best brands like they used to be. I guess when my grandfather was younger, he was like, an incredible sax/clarinet player and he both his pro sax and pro clarinet were Selmer and he says they were amazing.

Selmer was the s**t!
Not that I'm saying now they're just s**t... but they aren't as good as everyone makes them off to be. I tried a few and I didn't like them nearly as much as everyone told me I would.

That and I'm starting to suspect that the Selmer C*, a mp most people have at one point or another, is kind of overrated. Once I got my Lakey, I just couldn't go back to that C*.
I'm going to need to use it for marching band, so I can keep my lakey at home for my nice sax... but I don't even want to march my C*. It's not very comfortable.

That's what I wanted to do as well, to get one by my junior year so that I will be used to an open-holed professional by the time I start auditioning (shouldn't be hard if I keep up my practicing for nine hours a day on weekends ^_^), but it probably isn't going to happen because we aren't exactly the richest family out there. I haven't tried any of those brands you mentioned excluding the Miyazawas, and those play like a flipping dream! I have heard excellent things about the others, too; especially the antique Haynes, those are supposed to be, like, godly. From what I've heard.

I am only playing on a POS beginner Armstrong right now, but as mentioned, luck befell me and I was able to try a damn awesome Miyazawa last year. This past year was technically only my fourth playing (I quit in the seventh grade -- BIGGEST MISTAKE EVAR -- but played a little in the two I was out of practice), though I can tell I am ready to move up into the professional models. Those aren't in my budget, though (we've never paid that much for a car, let alone an instrument), so I am trying to get a job and maybe get a $3,600 Pearl Quantz-Coda. It's plausible if I pull out of my college fund, as well; I am only going to be a sophomore next year, so if I get a job and work my tail off and only ask for money in my fund for birthdays and Christmas, the dream might come true! It's not a pro-pro flute like you are looking to get, but it's the best we can go for at the moment.

Blah. I'm never going to be able to do any of the things you guys'll be able to... No music after high school cause I'll probably be too suckish to be able to join anything.

I'm going to be a junior this year, after the summer. And I'm just starting.

I feel like s**t. n_n

You know Ian Anderson didn't start until he was 20, right? Even then, he taught himself while playing it in the back of his van or whatever between gigs.

I've heard really good things about Pearls. And believe me, I know the situation you're in. When I got the flute I have now (It's an Armstrong) my family like, couldn't afford anything. At all, but the flute I had was such a piece of s**t, and I was so advanced for my age that I needed a new flute. But like, my dad is a total a** and around that time was making my family (meaning me, my three siblings and my mom, my parents are divorced) totally broke. Like, buying groceries was hard, money-wise. But somehow, as a 7th grader, I managed to save up enough money to get my new flute. I still don't know how I did it. But, now everythings good and we have plenty of money (I realize that sounds really...conceited sweatdrop ) so i'm able to get a new flute...

Seriously! I am not a huge fan of Jethro Tull as a band, but Ian Anderson would be pretty damn amazing to see in person. I have one of his live solos on my computer.

Novel: Nah, it didn't sound conceited. I am glad you're doing well now, and it is comforting to know that someone understands what I mean. It is awesome that you saved up for your own flute, too. 3nodding Incredible; other people our age are more centered with getting cars, and we want instruments because we are that freakin' cool.
