Streamjumper That's what I'm eating too. And today at work I stumbled across a great deal that will have me getting the 25th anniversary sets for season 1 and 2 of G1 Transformers for just over 30$ total. Win. FFFFT. D: That is a good deal.
I just have old VHS tapes. I don't even have a VHS player. ;.; I need to upgrade.

Shoujo Phoenix Question. I have a stack of games I want to bring into Gamestop. Included are Wii games and DS games and a PS2 game. There are 2 different trade in offers going on, and I was wondering if I could get both if I go in 2 different times. Like, I would bring in one game with me that's on their $25 trade in list then an added 10% with my Edge card. Then could I go in a couple days later or something and take in the rest and get the trade in offer that gives you a $10 bonus credit for trading in 3 games (xbox 360, wii, ds, and a couple others...)? I don't see any reason you couldn't. Seems like a good plan to me. XD

LunaInverse Zero Omega teh CB Guild, I really don't understand soccer : Ball. Kicking. Hopefully into net. Points. Win: Country riots. Lose: Country riots.Pretty much sums up how everyone EXCEPT the US feels about soccer. That's what I don't understand about it the most. Everyone is all of a sudden a big soccer fan on my news feed! What is this! That and the whole sport in terms of playing just boggles my mind. It seems you don't have to play to win, you just don't play to lose. Ties are for sissies! Can't the US lose already so everyone can shut up gonk But to those who actually care and know more than the fact that the US is in the world cup (aka, the player's names), kudos. You are better than 95% of my Facebook friends.

Can't the US lose already so everyone can shut up gonk But to those who actually care and know more than the fact that the US is in the world cup (aka, the player's names), kudos. You are better than 95% of my Facebook friends. People are going to jump on the bandwagon! xd Although really the joy of the game, if you're watching it for the first time, is watching it with someone who is really passionate about it. You get drawn in by the excitement.
As for playing, it depends on what's really going on. Kin can speak in more detail about this, but currently what's going on in the World Cup is everyone is participating in round-robin group matches for points, there are a total of eight groups, so the two teams in each group with the highest amount of points move onto the Round of 16.
Round of 16 is an elimination set of matches, you win, you move onto the quarter finals. Quarter finals are also elimination, win and move onto the semi. Semi is elimination, win and move onto the finals for the victory.
When it comes to the grouping stages (known as the knockout round), games have a point value, which is why ties are a tie with no tie breaker. A win is worth 3 points, a tie is worth 1 (for both teams), and a lose is worth 0 points. So ties can be very strategic on how a team wants to play.
Let's take the US group for example, the current standings are like this: Slovenia - 4 England - 2 US - 2 Algeria - 1
In the next match, all Slovenia (who plays against England) has to do is not lose in order to move onto the Round of 16. Note that they can't lose, but they can TIE and move on, because a tie is only worth 1 point. So Slovenia is perfectly fine just playing for a tie.
Whereas... Algeria (who plays against the US) needs to win the next game to have a hope to move onto the Round of 16, not only do they need to win, but they need to hope that the outcome of the Eng/Slov game is that England doesn't win, because that would give England 3 points, putting them at 5, whereas Algeria (if they win) would only have 4.
Now that, of course, puts Algeria and Slovenia both at 4 points, so there is a tie-breaker criteria that FIFA uses that focuses on how many goals a team has made vs. how many goals they have given up (goal differential), but... That gets complicated.
Either way, the point is that when tournaments are going on, they're generally employed by this grouping/points round where ties are allowed because they give a point to both sides. Every team, of course, wants to play for the win because it gives them 3 points, but depending on the outcomes of their match vs. the other matches in the group, they can strategically play to just a tie. It's when you get into the elimination games that ties need to be broken by two 15 minute halves, and then penalty kicks if the game is still tied.
... That was a mouthful... Make sense? xd
*waits inevitably from Kin to come around and correct him on something*

Kinetic Dream Zero Omega Wanna know what's scary? If US draws 0-0 to Algeria, and England ties 2-2 with Slovenia, then FIFA draws lots to figure out who moves on. USA was robbed of top spot today ): but, I'm over that. Maybe. And that's terrifying. Hell yeah we were robbed, and the world actually agrees.
Very terrifying. gonk

@Stream: The alcohol discussion with my parents actually went less along the lines of "don't drink, you're underage, it's illegal and stupid" and more like "you're going to drink, just don't get so drunk you forget your name. And don't get caught." cool Yeahhh. ...although I haven't had any alcohol-thing I actually like except for things with rum. Rum is rather nice.
@WJ, Rae, Mala: Of course I'm still 12 don't be silly I'm just also going to college--no, er. (IF ANYONE IS CURIOUS I'm going to Rutgers. Probably eventual major of European Studies.. focus on Eastern Europe, with a personal preference for Russia, where I will probably be studying abroad in a few years!)
@Zely: My friends keep poking fun at me for being too excited. sweatdrop I do a fair bit TOO MUCH research into the place I'll be going.. *essentially a Rutgers fangirl auuugh*
I'm kind of watching the World Cup? I bought a vuvuzela. ninja But I can't quite understand the widespread appeal of soccer. I guess it's okay? But there's not enough punching! And I'm tired of all the players trying to play up every little wound to try to get a free shot. PANSIES ALL OF YA. Hockey remains pretty much the only sport I can get behind..

God, the match of Holland vs. Japan sucked. neutral
While Holland was superior in having the ball and getting 1 goal Japan had a tight defense and was clearly pushing Holland's players.
Holland could have done so much better. mad
