Orphie Owwin Orphie Well, let me ask one simple question, first. How do you draw your lines? When you draw, do you do short sketchy lines to make your drawings, or do you use long lines? Short sketchy lines. I only use long lines to move over them when the drawing is good enough to ink, which is rarely. STOP THAT. Seriously. Don't do that. That's the problem. You're going to improve MUCH faster if you use long flowing lines for EVERYTHING. So stop. Stop doing the short lines. You will improve at least five times faster if you stop it. So don't do it. Never. I never want to see you do that again. Ever. It may seem awkward at first, but trust me, you're not gonna get better if you don't use long lines. This is the one steadfast rule of art that I stick to. There aren't many rules of art, but this is one of them, and one of the lesser known ones. NO SHORT LINES. I'm going to have to get used to that... I use short lines. It makes all my lines bold and...sketchy. But hell, they're straight. Thank you for the indirect advice! biggrin

So you mean let the shapes flow instead of stopping periodically to think? *takes notes*

Owwin Really? I was always taught to sketch it out first, but i will trust you. Just because you're sketching doesn't mean you use short lines. Sketching just means a rough outline of what you're doing. You should use light, long, overlapping lines to sketch. At first, you may not have much control over where your lines are going when you're using long lines. Even I have trouble controlling sometimes. But it WILL help. I can't tell you how much my art changes in any short span.

Shane-Cheshner I'm going to have to get used to that... I use short lines. It makes all my lines bold and...sketchy. But hell, they're straight. Thank you for the indirect advice! biggrin Once you use long lines, you don't have to try so hard to get straight lines. J of The Wind So you mean let the shapes flow instead of stopping periodically to think? Yes, exactly! Short lines only hinder your ability to create shapes. PROTIP: Everything is made up of basic shapes. For example, hands aren't hands. They're not palms with fingers. They're circles with five skinny ovals attached.

Virus, Cara?
Oh I heard about that on the news...
And about how bad it's gonna be...
If it comes in an e-mail...
Better off protecting your chances Under no circumstances, should you open it Or else it will
Translate your documents into Swahili Make your TV record "Gigli" Neuter your pets, and give you laundry static cling Look out! It's gonna make your computer screen freeze Look out! Erase the Easter eggs off your DVDs Look out! Erase your hard drive and your backups too And the hard drive of anyone related to you
Virus alert! Delete immediately before someone gets hurt! Forward this message on to everybody
Soon, very soon, it will make all the paint peel off your walls It'll make your keyboard all sticky Give your poodle a hickey And invest your cash in stock in Euro Disney Then, it will tie up your phone, making prank long-distance calls It'll set your clocks back an hour and start clogging the shower So just trash it now, or else it will
Decide to give you a permanent wedgie, Legally change your name to Reggie, Even mess up the pH balance in your pool...
