"Because her type of baby needs to learn everything from the beginning," Lore explained quietly, "When you were born, you were born with the knowledge to speak, and understand, she doesn't have that understanding, or the knowledge to speak. She has to learn that all on her own."

Idhril blinked, puzzled. "Why?" she questioned, brow furrowing with confusion. "What makes us different?"

"Well for starters, you came from a vase," Lore explained, "Little vase born children like yourself are born with that kind of knowledge. She," Lore paused for a moment, "Came from Ulani. Ulani gave birth to her, so you are two different types of people."
Let's keep it simple.

Idhril stared thoughtfully at the little elven baby, her golden eyes filled with curiosity. "But ... she has pointy ears, and I have pointy ears," she murmured. "And she has brown skin and I have brown skin ..."
She pulled her hair forward and studied it. "Are we different because I have lots of hair and she doesn't have any?" she asked, confused.

"A lot of people can look the same, but it doesn't mean they're the same inside," he used one hand while still cradling the baby to tapper the top of Idhril's head, "You two are still born differently, and even though you're mine and your mother's baby, you are in a way... a bit older than her, even though you're smaller. Size isn't everything after all."
Which wasn't saying much since there was no one here who was a Gaian's average of 5"10.

"Is it something, though?" Idhril asked, confused yet again. "Even if it's not everything, is it something? And if we're so different then why do we look so much the same?"
"Idhril," Elnara murmured, putting a hand on her daughter's head and leaning close to whisper in her ear, "perhaps you could wait until later to ask your questions ... Papa-" she couldn't help but giggle, referring to Lore as Papa "-can't answer all the questions you have all at once."

Lore laughed at that, well that and he had a feeling that the idea that someone could be different on the inside wasn't a concept she could understand, because he had already given her the answer to her question. She was different on the inside, it wasn't something she could see.
Perhaps when she was older he thought, then maybe she would understand better.

Idhril was a little confused, but she nodded obediently. "Okay, Mama," she agreed with a smile. Then she turned back to Lore. "I'm sorry, Papa. Another time?"
Elnara laughed again.

Ulani laughed as well. "Are they always like this when they're curious about something?" she asked, amused. "I mean, none of mine were like that ... and I'm pretty sure I don't know anyone else who was either ..."
She laughed again.

Lore shook his head, "The others ask questions, but they always ask the personally hard ones."
Not that Idhril's were not hard, but they were hard in the fact she kept asking more and more questions. In additon, some of the questions Idhril had were things she would understand with time once she found out more about herself, he would think. Celebor and Serenity's questions though, were not things he could put off, questions about people's hearts and about family were far too important for that.

Ulani smiled. "An inquisitive race, then, the Seconds," she murmured. "But as you told Idhril - it's a good way for them to learn, far better than sticking everything in their mouths." She laughed.

Lore chuckled at that, "Well that's true, I won't disagree with that."
Though it did bring the question in how much they knew, they even seemed to know things that is created by culture, by people. Things that depending on the culture people don't normally know. Perhaps you really did need to talk to vases as they grew.

Ulani smiled and moved forward, reaching her arms out to Lore to take Aliya back from him. It wasn't that she was unhappy with how he was holding her or anything, she just didn't want to bother Lore more than was necessary - and it looked as though he may sometime soon have his hands full with Idhril.
"Would you like a tour of the valley?" she offered as she waited for him to pass the baby off to her.

"That would be nice," Lore replied as he handed the babe gently back to her mother.
He assumed that Ulani would like to have her child back after all.

Ulani smiled and held her daughter to her shoulder. "Come with me then," she said warmly, her eyes shining. "Though I should warn you ahead of time - I may exaggerate the beauty of the valley from time to time, I was born here and in my opinion there is no place more beautiful in the entire Four Lands."
