Tracking down James had been no easy task...and now Rennell was more or less pouting as he leaned against the wall...turns out James was in the middle of his overly obsessive need to have himself upgraded and checked out. Which of course meant Rennell wasn't allowed to see him because the techs thought that he would be a distraction.
That's what he hated about Ingenuity. He was always a distraction when any work was being done and people needed to really concentrate. Not true...he could be quiet and controlled when he needed. They couldn't even give him that credit could they? No.

James' operation was getting to the crictial point. they had to in essence reboot the electronic portion of his brain and see if it responded correctly. Hence Rennel was told to wait outside. most the rest wasn't so bad, but this could prove to be very delicate. the rebooted him, keeping that part of his head open as well as the rest of his arm components, watching everything attempt to reboot, reassess and accept the reconfigurations to his bioware. What they got, was James going into a convulsion. a few paniced orders, and James' electronic portions were shut back down, and they checked his vitals and gave him some adrenaline to keep his living parts from overexertion. much like jumping a car to keep the battery from dying.
"Bring Rennel in, James needs some more nanomachines placed in the bloodstream. the upgrades but too much bioelectrical feedback. well get a blood sample from him and give it to James. easier than holding him here while we cultivate more."

Rennell was busy humming a song in his head as he was waiting. Though that humming in his head as well as the audible whistling stopped as he heard what sounding like a bit of panicking. Then lo an behold the door open and a tech popped his head out, who thanked Ren for still being in the same place that they had more or less kicked him out to. Then a quirked brow as he was asked to come in.
Containing himself he stepped into the room, only to see James looking like a kids toy...parts all everywhere looking half broken when it really wasn't. He scratched at his arm and then looked to the others in the room. "Um...so..." Yeah...why were they all looking at him like that when it was obvious James needed the attention? The gears in his wings whirred softly as he twitched them, making them span a little before settling.

"Sit down, Rennel. we need a bloodsample from you for the nanomites in your blood stream. the upgrades caused too much bioelectrical feedback, sent him into convulsions when we tried to activate his biomechanical parts. we'll use the nanos in your blood to counter balance the new ratio of bioelectricity in James from his upgrades."
Of course now an IV was inserted into James, he wasn't supposed to be under for so long. this surprise complication messed thier timetable, as james had shut himself down and put timers on his systems to let them have an easier time to work with him.
One of the techs had a rather large syringe, to draw blood with, tapped it lightly and walked over to Rennel.
"this might hurt a bit, as you well know. but this is faster than trying to cultivate them and keeping James in a chemical coma until they are prepared."

Rennell's eyes grew wide at the sight of the needle. Holy crap, did they have to use that big of a needle? "In other words, you messed up a bit." Hey it was his blood and his nanomachines, and he was still using them...so they could put up with him. But he took a seat in an available work stool in the room and offered his upturned arm to them. "Just give me a second."
He motioned a few of them to give him some room then went about throwing his MATU system into gear. The secondary circulatory system that laced the metal of the wings held most of the nanomachines and they only usually entered his natural circulatory in vast amounts when the system was in gear so to speak. Wings spread out and flexed a little, then the miniature engines went into gear, one on every other metal feather turning around. Thus the upward and downward thrust from the alternating positions kept him seated. "Okay, go for it."

The Tech smirked slightly.
"We didn't 'mess up' this is something you can't plan for until the systems go online. You can't know if the nanos can handle it until it goes on. but James is a stickler for efficency and time so he only shut himself down for a certain amount of time and this put us behind schedule."
Of course when he had to make the smartass remark.
"Of course, we can use a bigger one, if this one isn't good enough for you Rennel."
Once he'd gotten himself fully circulating, the tech took his arm, tied it off, and stuck the needle in, drawing about half the syringe full of blood, pulled it out and let another tech swab the needle mark and get him nice and cleaned up.
"You want to stay and watch, and be quiet, or you want to stand outside again?"

"If you say so." A sort whistle. "Oh it's good enough for me, I've had worse." For all his outward show he didn't give a single noise as he was stuck or when the blood was drawn from him. He was quite settled with needle sticks...he just didn't like other things. By the time they were done, Rennell was flushed. He was always flushed when the system was in gear from the extra blood.
He watched at the second tech came over to clean up the work from the first, but he didn't need much, the nanomachines in his blood taking care of the puncture mark themselves. But he shut himself down and rotated things back into their places before pulling his wings back into their standby state as he pulled his legs up to sit cross legged on the stool as that flushed look started to go away. "I can be quiet when I need to be. Geez, you people think that I can't control myself at all..."

"That's just it Rennel. many times you can't. hence your ban form the Echoes."
Yes news like that spread fast, even among those that didn't participate in the projects. Rennels blood was put in a centrofugal, spun and the blood seperated form the nanomachines, andthose put in another syringe, and injected into James' IV, that woudl let them go into the blood stream slow enough for the ones there to reprogram and readjust them to the duties they would need to be part of handling in James' body as opposed to Rennel's.
"We are also under the impression your looking for some upgrade work as well. you decided what you want done?"
Another tech, the one that was programing the systems in Janus' mind and arm to adjust them for the additions of more nanomachines.
"He pascoded the cannon. probably thanks to those damned idiots of Catalyst. someone hook up his comm usurper programs and well have him hack into himself to get the cannon adjusted correctly."
So James was rigged to in essence hack into his own programing, getting the passcode and access to the cannon to adjust it for the additional nano machines and higher levels of bio electrical output. Another tech was montioring another screen.
"The lung and rib restorations and control programs need an adjust ment. his lung is taking it too much air, the convulsion cause it to increase by two percent."
So his side was also opened, showing the metalic ribs and rubbery portion that aparrently had replaced a part of his lung, and the montioring system on the back of the panel was being reworked. James had gone through far more work then most thought outside this team.
"Memory and vision on the bioware looks normal, the convulsion didn't damage anything there. his arms working like it should, had to make some adjustments on the targeting of the cannon and his thumb and index fingers. trying to route more of the excess bioelectricty to the tasers. it'll maean he'll have a nastier jolt, but that can be adjusted later with some safety protocols."

And he frowned at that. "Geez, I can't get a break can I?" And he could get back into the Echoes if he wanted. He'd just have to either butter Rosey up with his usual sunshine like charm...or beg her to give him back his PAID tag to get back there.
And in Rennell fashion he scratched at the back of his head, messing up already shaggy red hair. "Um yeah...my eye is outdated too much and is currently on the fritz from a bonk on the noggin." What? They all knew he was accident prone. "I kinda decided...I mean, I don't want to change much from what I have but everything is just so advanced now I'm going to just have to deal. But I found a few upgrades that aren't in my opinion overly done. I just have to pick who I want to do the work."
Certainly not these guys. Frankly, anyone who worked on James, didn't need to work on him. Rennell was far more flesh and bone that James was and he wasn't the easiest patient when thrown on the operating table or as slang went in the Ingenuity, the workbench. Two circulatory systems that worked independently, yet together in an odd way was never a fun thing to mess with. And yes, messing with his eye messed with that.

"Jessica is your girl then. She's an expert in cranial bioware."
Who of course, was one of James' team. a cute blond, looking more like a surfer girl than a lab tech, reading the monitors for James' eye peices and skullwork, apparently not hearing the comment about herself, which got a nudge from the one that was working his memory.
"Hey, Rennel over there is looking to get some eye work done."
That got her attention, a glare to teh one that nudged her, and a look over to Rennel.
"you mean mister i never want to get a checkup I don't like to be prodded now wants an upgrade? what changed your mind, Rennel? finally go blind or something?"

"Something like that." Good lord these people...why was it always him that had to be the one of ridicule simply because he was happier than most people aboard the cruiser. They needed to pull the sticks out of their asses in his opinion. He raised a hand though in a gesture of decline. "No thanks though. No offense but anyone working on James, I don't want working on me. I'm wired way different than he is and usually there's a lot of blood and problems. I'm just a headache waiting to happen when you throw me on the workbench."
Of course it was likely he'd get her anyway for lack of finding someone himself and James coming to drag him to get it done and to stop procrastinating. But he was hoping to get his own way first before it came to that. "I can see perfect from my natural eye still and things are just a little static and interference with the other. So I'm good another month to take my time." Then a half snort. "Shouldn't you be paying attention to him and not me anyway?"

Jessica narrowed her eyes at him.
"Oh really. someone who works on James isn't good enough to work on you becuase of different bioware setups? think I'm not good enough?"
That got a few snickers. here comes the Jessica rant. James was almost done, his IV drip nearly complete, the things that needed readjusting were done. mostly now it was waiting for the IV drip and getting Jessica's approval that the nanomechs were functioning in accordance to James' protocols.
"I've been doing this for twenty years, I'll have you know Rennel. I've was doing this when the most difficult project they thought could ever be done was putting in eyes like yours. hell I wouldn't be surprised if I helped DESIGN your eye augmentation. I was part of the crew that first built the M.A.T.U unit. I put in the bioware for the entire special forces team James' was part of. and despite the failures and deaths, not a single peice that I was responsible for failed. that was before we had teams all working together. back then all we did was our part, and then they got sent to the next guy. That's why James trusts me to work on him. becuase I'm the best there is at what I do. every member of this team is the top of thier field. SO don't you even think to dismiss me out of hand just becuase I work on James. You can't get any better than what your looking at. Which is why we are here. we're teh best of th best. SO you can either tell me what you want done and we can set up an appointent, or you can have James drag you to see me in a few weeks when you go totally blind in that eye."

Holy cow, the woman could of blown him off his stool with that rant...which he was by the way clinging to with his hands, fearing that if he did let go he would in fact fall off. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. "Okay okay, sorry...no offense meant...I was just saying..." Okay so she was in the project near or at the beginning and he just made himself look bad. He should of just stayed quiet.
"Well since you're so good, Miss Jessica, I'm sure then you wouldn't mind doing a custom make for me then. Right?" She wanted to call herself the best of the best, then he's take advantage of it and issue the challange...and also get what he wanted. For a tech of her apparent caliber he was going to play on it.

Jessica glanced back at the screen montitoring James, and nodded the rest of the crew, who began putting James back together and rebooting and reinitializing his bioware with teh rest of his body. and no convulsion this time. Jessica walked over to Rennel, looked him up and down, and gave a small grin.
"So. you want a custom job down with your eye now. Issuing a challenge to me are you? you got it. you get me the basic specs of what your getting done, and tell me how you want it customized and I'll have you ready for operation in seventy-two hours. And if I can get you everything you want done, I don't want to hear anymore complaints about you missing appointments. especially with customized augments."
The rest were unplugging the equipment from James, making sure nothing was attached that might get damaged when he woke up and moved, and kept eyes on his vitals as he began to shrug off the anesthetic.

Oh that worked rather nicely. "Alright I can do that but I have one request when you throw me on the workbench. I have to be allowed to have someone with me, that is if you want to keep my complaining to a minimum and with as little fidgeting as possible. " Rosey had said she would go with him and he intended to hold her to it seeing as they both knew how skittish he was about getting this done.
Then he held up a hand in salute to her. "Yes ma'am, I won't miss a single appointment, won't even be late. In fact I'll have my butt down where it needs to be fifteen minutes ahead of schedule." Oh wouldn't James just be delighted about this. He was sure the man would be as happy as Rennell was...if he was even capable of that.
