Gaius paused in his work, rubbing his chin absently - a bit of a reach he was used to making by now. "Well, I know I've... had some problems. Kinda. Don't know if I want to bring them back up, but... well, if something happens in the future... maybe it'd be good to talk to someone, so I'm not bringing down my friends..."

His eyes drifted back to Victor. The guy was looking kinda sickly... "You sure you want to walk all the way to the beach?"

"Everyone has problems every once and a while, but don't need to talk about it now, probably be better to wait anyway." Victor didn't really feel like having to solve anyone's problem today, not when he wasn't feeling unwell.

"yeah the beach really isn't that far"

"Well, if you're sure..." Gaius sounded unconvinced, but let it slide with a shrug and returned to his hammering.

Returning from the jungle, Vixen came bearing a bit of old fruit she'd found lying on the jungle floor. She carried it gingerly in her teeth, a few bits of pulp oozing out where her teeth had pierced the rotting flesh, and walked right up to Victor...

And dropped the mushy fruit right on his foot. The lumpy thing burst open, over-ripe pulp oozing all over his toes.

Seemed she wasn't one to let a snub go without payback.

Gaius, immersed in his work, was oblivious to the whole scene.

Victor nodded and watched Gaius resume hammering, not quite noticing Vixen come back with her 'prize' not until it was dropped right on his foot.

The lizardman looked at the mushy fruit and the oozing pulp all over his foot, normally it wouldn't bother him, but since this morning, his stomach had been weak, and almost immedately Victor felt bile rising up in his throat.
"Oh...bad dog" was all Victor got out before spitting out the acidic bile in his mouth, and kicked the bad fruit off of his foot, glaring at Vixen as he stood up, intent on leaving.

Gaius looked up at the exclamation, first seeing Victor looking even sicker than before, then the pile of what had once been fruit, and finally Vixen standing a distance away looking very pleased with herself. It took a moment for it all to click. The instant it did, he shot a dark look at his dog. "Vixen!" he scolded.

"Victor... sorry... I don't know why..." he stuttered as he attepted to apologize, not rightly sure what had exactly happened. Finally he just gave up and gave an apologetic shrug.

Victor shook his foot to try and get the rest of the rotten pulp off of his clawed foot, spitting the remaining bile from his mouth. "Its...alright" He told Gaius, he certainly wasn't that happy with Vixen right at that moment, his tail was twitching behind him. Victor sighed. "Its alright, wasn't your fault, but I guess I ought to be heading to the beach if i'm going to go, kinda have to to get this off my foot" the lizardman gave the theater another look over "Its been nice meeting you Gaius, I hope your theater gets completed"

"Thanks, hopefully it'll be soon..."

He watched the poor guy leave, then shot Vixen a dark look. "That was a nasty thing you did... Can't you see the poor guy was already sick? You should be ashamed of yourself..."

The dog hung her head, moving forward in a submissive posture, but Gaius would have none of it and shooed her away to amuse herself elsewhere and he returned to his hammering.

The Deconstruction Site
Group AIM RP

It was early morning, at least by most folks standards. The sun was up, breakfast was still being served in the cafeteria. Water fresh from the night's shower made the ground damp. Gaius walked out to the construction site with a box of tools in his arms, Vixen bounding at his side, restrained by the leash tied around his wrist. He hummed cheerfully, eager to get another day of work in. "Of course," he muttered, setting the box down by a wood pile and tying Vixen to a nearby tree, "it'd be easier with some help..." Setting down over a make-shift work bench between two wooden horses and a blank of wood, Gaius got to work sawing down the large beams for the over-supports, a slow and noisy process.

Early morning had motivated Seth from his duplex once more. The noises of work in the construction area were occuring again, which were loud enough to draw the curious thylacine-man back into the area, no longer deterred from the events that occured last time. He needed to return there anyway, especially if he was to continue with some unfinished plans. He said nothing initially as he walked into the area, at least until he saw Gaius. "Working again, ey?"

The long-necked man looked up from his work to see who'd spoke, but the saw caught mid-push and he cursed, returning his attention to it and tried to pull the blade out, but it was jammed for the moment. Grumbling, he looked back at Seth, noting he'd seen the guy at the work place before... "Yeah, seems it's all I do these days. What brings you out here?"

Billy had stayed away from the construction sight for a long while, finding it too combersome to wheel himself allt he way there only to run out of water and get himself stranded. After his refreshing meeting with Maryke, though, he felt eager to get out and about and pretend to be productive. Struggling and grunting and moistening himself with bottled lake water as he went.

"What brings me out here? The racket you're making, mostly." Seth smirked in amusement. "I can hear the noise from pretty much the other side of the island every time you lot get to work here." He tilted his head slightly as he noted that Gaius had been working. "I didn't interrupt anything, did I? Need any help around here?"

Gaius' face lit up. "Do I?! Hell, the place has been almost like a one-man show ever since Oz changed and broke Marshall's arm..." He took a quick step towards Seth, practically pouncing on him in his eager hopefulness. "Anything would be a help, even just standing around holding nails! But if you can, do you think you could finish digging out the last corner of the under-stage area?"

A wide devious grin made it's way across the animal man's maw, and he twitched his tail with his heightened mood. "You bloody bet I can do that," He chuckled. This was perfect... "Just tell me where to dig. I have claws too, I think my chosen animal was meant for it."

"I could fall down on my knees and kiss your feet, you have no idea..." Gaius grinned, then turned and gestured to the rectangular pit that'd beeen mostly cleared out, some wooden beams already poking up from a side of it. "That back corner there with the dirt slope in it still needs to be dug out... I think some shovels were left in there, hopefully they haven't rusted... er, you'll have to find wherever we left the wheelbarrow to carry the dirt over to the pile we've been making..."

It had been a while since Lucas had been to the construction area. After the first time he had felt a little under the weather and not up to work. But now that he was feeling better he packed a lunch, leashed Dasher, and headed off to once again lend his help. As Lucas neared the construction area he spotted a figure he recognized from his last visit. Dasher also spotted him and took off running toward the octopus, tail wagging.

It was also a brand new day for a certain eternally grubby frog-man. He had been productive the last few days with his present for Emerwyn and other self appointed chores, but after reading the newsletter, he figured he really aught to lend the pegasis-in-transition a hand. At the sight of Billy's wheelchair, he veered off his hopping, though, avoiding the disgruntled blue man deliberatly. He wondered if he should warn Lucas, but didn't want to risk getting Bill's attention. The octopus, meanwhile, continued to push on through the uneven ground, growling about the need for decent paths or something better.

Coming up along the path up to the construction area, Liamh trudged with his hands in his pockets - or rather, the one hand that would fit. The gnarled, viny arm dangled at his side, it's tendrils fidgeting restlessly. He surveyed the small crowd around the site, looking a bit hesitant, but tucked his head down and continued toward the unfinished structure. He seemed to have an empty leash hanging out of his pocket, but no dog in sight. Walking up to the main work area, he nodded to Seth and Gaius, a bit sheepishly. ".... heya..."

Seth nodded as Gaius gave him instructions. "How many shovels do you have?" He quickly added to the statement. "In case more people come, that is. You wouldn't want there to be a shortage of tools." He glanced around the area, looking for the said shovels, and the wheelbarrow.

Gaius scratched at his head, making nothing of the seemingly innocent question, and shrugged. "I dunno, probably about four of them? If we need more, I might be able to dig another out of the village supply room..."

Running after his dog, Lucas watched as the canine approached and began sniffing one of Billy's tentacles. The dhole winced and hoped that the octopus was in a good mood.

At the feeling of a cold wet nose, Billy flinched, uncoiling it from the wheel to glance down at the dog with a snarl, "Bugger... off! M'too... tired t'd**k... aroun'!" He didn't care if this dog was a playfull beast or a fellow islander, he just wanted to get positioned somewhere where he could catch his breath and refresh himself.

The familiar, but long-unheard voice made Gaius' pointed ears stand up. He was certain he recognized it, but how long had it been since he'd heard it... Turning his head, he lifted a hand to shield the morning sunlight. His eyes widened in recognition of the approaching beanpole. "Li-amh?"

Stepping up to the wheelchair, Lucas grabbed the dog by the collar and pulled him away from Billy. "Sorry. He's... very curious." He watched the octopus huff and puff, and rubbed the back of his neck. "Are you going to the construction site? I can push you the rest of the way, if you want?"

Seth turned to face Liamh, staring at him for a whole moment before blinking. He hadn't seen him since... well, he was a human. Then slowly, he arched one eyebrow and shook his head. "Liamh? What the bloody hell happened to you, mate?"

Liamh cast a quick glance over his shoulder at the octopus in the wheelchair... when did that become normal in life? He turned back to his snouted duplex-mate and the long-necked architect. "Err... yeah, sorry... I just..." He ran his 'good' hand over his head, rankling at the feel of the leaves sprouting there. "Well, thought i'd come and do something worthwhile for once, you know?" He grinned sheepishly at the two of them. "I had some nasty changes, Seth... Haven't been the best of neighbors. How've you been holding up?"

That got the octopus's attention and he turned hid odd round eyes up at him, clicking his beak angrilly, "Usually... I'd take offence... t'yer t'inkin'... I can't manage meself...!" He swallowed, his voice breathy and weak, "Bu' M'... bloody tired...."

Lucas nodded. Not wanting to actually say anything more on the subject that would offend the struggling octopus, he silently took the handles and pushed. He, however, didn't want to walk in silence. "So you asked Gaius to build the stage? Did you have something in particular in mind for it?" Dasher walked along side as they moved closer to the site, still trying to sniff the octopus, but being pushed away by Lucas.

Gaius shifted his weight awkwardly. The last time he'd seen Liamh was when he'd half-carried the leaf-sprouting man back to his duplex shortly after he'd lost half his skin in Gaius'... Geeze, how was he able to lose touch with people so easily, despite the fact they were all trapped there? He was glad Liamh and Seth seemed to know each other, and turned to spot the approaching canine and, oh joy, his 'boss', the octopus. Part of him was thrilled with the people, but he worried Billy might scare some off...

Newt lurked amongst the long piles of waiting wood and logs, watching as Gaius spoke to the strange australian man he remembered from befor and.... at the sight of Liamh, he froze, gaping at the exposed planty flesh with a terrified ribbit.

He held up his weirdly-twitching vine hand, the leaves rustling a bit. "Did you get your room cleaned out, Gaius? Sorry 'bout the mess..." He turned his head to look in the direction of the strange frog-like sound, then turned back to the others.

Seth considered Liamh's question for a moment, then shook his head, sighing. "I'm okay, aside from the fact I have a tail and bloody stripes on my arse. All things considered, I'm alright I guess. But god man, you look awful." At the sound of the ribbit, Seth looked around, startled by the noise. "Hey, that's the frog-bloke. Where are you?"

"Um, ah, yeah..." Gaius started awkwardly, not wishing to delve into that particular subject, and was glad for the distraction as they took note of the noise. "Hey! Newt, where are you buddy?"

Newt squeeked when he was spotted, hopping over the benches that had been dragged into place already to hide behind one further off. The one man... what was wrong with him?? Sure, back at the labs he had heard about all sorts of animals and oddities, but he'd never actually seen one of the.... non animal ... "N-no where!" He squeeked back.

Liamh put both hands on his hips. "Hey, i'll have you know this is all the rage in Milan this year. The Eco-zombie fallout victim look is in." He grinned lopsidedly, then glanced at the frogman popping out of hiding. "Agh, what..." He peered at the bulgy green fellow. "....Hey there, uh..." he glanced at Gaius. "Newt?"

"I'm s-s-sorry, I w-wasn't st-staring!!" He shreiked back.

"Newt, quit acting like a pansy and get over here. I need to talk about the curtain wiring!" Gaius placed his hands on his hips, leveling the cowering figure with a stern look. He'd have to figure out how to organize all these folks... His mood lept. He had workers! So many of them! And all at his beck and call... Mmm, slaves.

Liamh took a half-step backward, boggling at the frog. "Uhh.... err... that's okay... I do it all the time..." He smiled, unintentionally showing even more the gap in his face where the green fibers showed through.

Seth raised an eyebrow and made a slight gruff "urrrr"ing noise at Gaius. "Hey, don't yell at him. He just has a nervous disposition, that's all." Seth began to wander away from the group,---KatAclysm82: ---intending to start digging work. He might as well DO some of their work for what he wanted, afterall.

"So this is it?..." Billy glowered amongst the faces with a distastefull look from down in his chair. With one tentacle, he groped for his cigarettes, another three all preoccupied by keeping himself dog-free. --Bilious42: -- smelling like their canned dinner didn't help matters, "This is... all y'got?"

Gaius turned back to Seth, only to see him walking off to start the job, and then spun around at the gruff voice behind him. He cast Lucas a quick grin before wincing at Billy's grumbling. "Well, it's been slow..." he explained.

"Where'd tha'... big bloke go? These... kids all loo'... wirey... " With an odd look at Liamh he gave a grunt, "Tha' one's a twig."

Lucas returned the smile and raised a hand in greeting to Gaius. While he had his attention elsewhere, Dasher began to investigate all the new people and smells, poking them with his nose.--

With Mr. Woodrow there, Newt had even less inspiration to join the party. "In... in... in a l-little wuh-woo-while...." He croaked to Gaius, but kept his voice as low as possible to avoid any unnecissary attention.

Liamh raised an eyebrow and raised a hand. "Vine, actually, but i get that a lot. And wouldn't it seem that you could do all the rest of the work for us with all those arms?" He gave a cheeky grin at the octopus.

Seth dug his shovel hard into the ground, which was softened from the rain last night. He couldn't see the wheelbarrow and shrugged, ending up flicking the dirt carlessly over his shoulder, and possibly at people behind him.

The smile faded a bit at the kid and wirey comments. He knew he was small, but he wasn't useless. And he certainly wasn't a kid. Parking the octopus in front of Gaius, Lucas looked around at the site.

"Yeah, well, er..." Gaius stammered, trying to come up with an explanation for Billy, but his attention was spread thing over the little gathering that had miraculously gathered at his site. Not one to miss such a golden opportunity, Gaius waved his arms in an attempt to catch folks' attention, then gave up and stuck his pinkies in his mouth and gave a sharp whistle.

Liamh jerked his head at the wilting frog. "Newt here's offered to do the heavy lifting, anyway. He's a brick you know." He winced at the sharp whistle next to his ear... at least he still HAD ears.

"Alright you lot!" The horse-man bellowed, striking a dominearing stance. "Considering how many folks are here, I assume you're all here to work! Is that right?"

"I... ah... am actually n-not very equipt for h-heavy l-lifting, i assure you! KrrKIT!"

Lucas also winced at the whistle and turned to Gaius. He was still trying to get used to his new hearing. "Yes. I'll do what I can."

Liamh raised his human hand again, muttering under his breath, "No sir, we're here for the free food."

Lucas chuckled at Liamh's reply.

Seth immediately ducked his head, the sound of Gaius's whistle hurting his ears. He made a sharp guttural coughing bark sound in protest. When he heard Gaius speak, he replyed, mildly irritated. "I'm already bloody working, can't you see the shovel?"

Gaius shot the smart-allec a dark look, doing his best to ignore the mutterings and talk-backs, and putting on his best 'construction manager' voice. "Alright guys, we have a lot to get done today! First thing first, with all of you here... We're going to get the stage dug out and the supports put in! Doesn't that sound like fun?"

Figuring he wasn't one concidered to be part of the working crew, Billy found half of one of the stogies he had kept for chewing from Aubrey's christmas present and clamped it in his beak. He wheeled himself off to the side, tentacles wriggling to resituate more comfortable while he prepaired to watch.

As Gaius mentioned everybody digging out the stage, Seth's mood sank. He gripped his paws tight on his shovel, not wanting to let it go. "There's not many shovels," He said quickly. "But there's some in the supplies closet or wherever the bloody hell the long-necked bloke said they were, right?" He smirked. As soon as everybody was finished with them, he could hoard the lot.

Jabbing a finger at the two more wirey men, namely Lucas and Liamh, he waved them to the pit. "You help Seth finish digging out the corner and make sure the dirt gets over to the pile off-site by the jungle."

Richard had been just exiting the Cafe when he heard a the shill whistle peirce the relative quiet of the village. Casting about, he eventually determined it had come from the direction of the construction site. Smiling he wandered over to see what was going on. He stopped at the edge of the site, just watching Gaius speak for the moment.

Liamh gave a small groan. "Wheelbarrows ho, young padawan..." he gestured at Lucas.

As Liamh looked to be leaving, Newt crawled out to crouch on top of one of the benches, still far away, but not too far to not hear Gaius's loud voice.

You want me to add another foot to the depth of the stage? Get to work!" he barked after them, then pointed at Newt. "You're with me. We're putting support beams in!"

"Ah! Er... y-yes! Um..." He flinched as the finger was pointed to him, but lept down to timidly hop closer, giving the others a wary bug-eyed stare.

So many voices and loud noises demanded at least a passing glance to get an idea of what was going on. So this was the 'project' that Gaius had stupidly hinted about some weeks back in response to Sabin? Hmph. Wasn't much. But Gaius wasn't much of a man or an animal, in Zach's opinion, which accounted for this poor excuse for a building job. Zach moved deftly past the ugly mixture of human and squid. He wanted a better look. By the way he was smirking at everyone running about it was obvious he had no intention of helping.

Liamh grumbled and started shuffling toward the wheelbarrows. "Look who's all 'Sig Heil mien taskmaster now, we've got Fidel Gaiustro..." He smirked, waving his fleshy and green hands both.khayardun: He made sure his voice was just loud enough to obviously reach Gaius.

Seth flinched at the sound of Gaius and his yelling voice. It hurt his sensitive ears so much... the man also wanted the entire area dug down by another foot? That would be a lot of digging work! "Bloody hell..." He muttered. When he saw Liamh and Lucas head off towards the wheelbarrows, he picked up two extra shovels and lay them on the ground nearby. "We're going to be here all bloody day..." He grumbled.

Lucas smirked and was about to reply when Gaius barked at them. "Yes, my master." Following after Liamh laughing at the vine-man's comment.

Newt caught a glance of red scale and that nervious "preditor!" alert lept through his head and he crouched lower behind Gaius, "Ah... " It was that strange man who had accused him of conspiring against him befor! He might not have remembered his name, but the red scales were difficult to forget.

Gaius flinched, arching his neck back to glare at Liamh, then turned back to Newt, missing the glimpse of red out of the corner of his eye. The fellow seemed positively terrified, probably of the many different people. "Come on," he said, moving to one of the piles of already sawn beams and working his hands under one end. "You pick up the other end and help carry it over to the holes we've dug."

"Ah..." That involved standing. Newt knew he could go upright, but had kept to all fours since getting the hang of hopping. His feet might be different... joints bending... oddly, he could still... walk couldn't he? Hesitantly he rocked to wobble upright, fumbling forward enough to take hold. "Ah... r-right...!"

Liamh laid hands on the handle of wheelbarrow, working his vine hand a bit until he got it to wrap around the handle securely and not release. He grunted as he hefted it up and started trundling it with a wobble towards the dig sitedragontigra: So many people running about, and he hardly recognized any of them save for some far-gone snatches of... unpleasant conversation he'd had with several. He ignored the frog's staring, still surveying the scene. Liamh laid hands on the handle of wheelbarrow, working his vine hand a bit until he got it to wrap around the handle securely and not release. He grunted as he hefted it up and started trundling it with a wobble towards the dig site.

So many people running about, and he hardly recognized any of them save for some far-gone snatches of... unpleasant conversation he'd had with several. He ignored the frog's staring, still surveying the scene. Getting close to all the construction work was already making him surprisingly nervous and sending his frill fanning a bit. He took a couple slow, confident steps toward the milling workers, his right wing tight against his side. He'd promised himself he wouldn't be violent, but if he was careful enough then he could exact a bit of revenge on Gaius for being given that noose. There'd be ways.

Grabbing two more shovels, Lucas carried them over to where Seth was working, stabbing one of the shovel heads into the ground for Liamh to take when he returned. Taking his, he joined Seth.

Waiting for Newt to get a grip on the other end of the beam, Gaius hefted it up, trying to take the better part of the weight since he didn't really trust Newt's little arms... However, he stopped mid-movement at the call, locking his legs in their half-bent position so he could look back over his shoulder. Someone needing his help?

Seth gave Lucas a friendly but toothy grin as he picked up the shovel. "Hey there mate, I don't believe I've seen you around before. Call me Seth." He resumed digging out the softened soil. "When you're done here, give your shovel back to me, okay? I'll take good care of it after we're done here." He chuckled slightly. He really would take care of them...

Lucas returned the grin, but it was an awkward one. "Oh, hello. I'm Lucas. Nice to meet you." The part about the shovels being taking care of was...rather odd, but he wasn't going to question it. "Uh, sure." Wondering what Seth's animal might be, Lucas shoveled, blocking out the other activity around him. However, he did glance over occasionally to make check on Dasher, who was now moving over to investigate Vixen.

Alright. You can do this without falling. You walked upright for the first twenty five years of your life, you can do it now. His thick throat wobbled as he swallowed, crouching to sit as he took a hold of it and then pushed upwards, the board shaking but indeed being lifted! Success!

Richard hurries past Zachery, giving Gaius a small wave as he approaches. He When he sees who is helping Gaius lift the board he's path deviated towards Newt, as he looked somewhat wobbly on those legs.

Billy was glad the dogs had lost interest in his soft, boneless extremities, several bits still working on growing back. He didn't care to have anything else detatched just then. At the sight of the cat-squid-man who had stalked him befor rushing towards him, he flinched, nearly dropping the board with the supressed urge to hop away. "Ah...!"

Spotting Richard, Gaius opened his mouth to greet the old man, but again caught sight of that bit of red and turned his neck back as far as it could go, but it was gone out of sight behind the wood pile now... Oh well, he shrugged. In the moment of distraction, Gaius nearly lost his own grip as Newt wobbled, grunting as he caught at the wood, which slammed into his chest. "Careful!" he scolded the frog, then shot a look at Richard. "You going to help or what?"

"N-nuh-nuh-nuh-no! G-go away, I d-don't w-want any t-truh-truh-trouble!" Newt cried, trying to keep his hold on the beam while hobble away from Richard at the same time.

As he sees Newt stumble with the board Richard rushed forward to steady the beam before Newt dropped it. "Hey careful there Newt."

Once he tried to take it from him, Newt wobbled only once before straightening up. He was a tall man before he was a frog, and when he hadn't been slouching, he had been well over six foot. He puffed out his throat, attempting to look big against the preditor, "I... I w-was helping him w-with that!" He really wasn't a fan of being bullied.

"Don't get in the way," he warned Richard, steadying his own end against the lift on Newt's side, then began walking it around towards the pit. "We don't want you overexerting yourself in the sun or anything..."

Richard shot him a perplexed, "what did I do to you look." Before chuckling bit and letting the frog carry the weight of the beam. "Alright, suit yourself."

Liamh grunted, parking the wheelbarrow behind Seth and Lucas. "Right... one barrow for wheeling.... d'you know where we put the dirt?" he glanced around, looking for a conspicuous pile somewhere.

Richard then whirled to Gaius. "What bee got in your bonnette Gaius! I thought you wanted help."

The dhole looked up from his work to reply to Liamh. "I think Gaius said to dump it near the jungle." He jerked his muzzle in that driction. "I guess that could be anywhere."

Newt gave a proud croak, hopping a step to jerk the plank in Gaius's grip befor he caught himself and staggered a few steps, "Ah... s-sorry!"

Seth stopped to wipe sweat beads off his brow. "Er... I dunno where to put the dirt really. How about wheeling it away and dumping it in a creek somewhere?" He smirked. "That's what corporations always do with their garbage."

"I do!" Gaius grunted, stumbling as he tried to keep up with Newt's jerky movement, and clenched his teeth. "But as you can see, I got plenty of help now..." EvionVixen: He didn't want to say outright 'You're old and shouldn't be working like this,' but his mood definitely gave off that air. "Maybe you can help wheel dirt from the stage...?"

Liamh made a face. "I'll just, you know... take it to the edge." He shot a look at the jungle with obvious distaste. He looked over at the digging. "Got an extra shovel?"

Seth pointed to the shovel that Lucas had set in the ground for him. "Yours is right there. We got an extra one..." He glanced up at Gaius, having noted that Richard was looking for something to do. "How about digging? We got one other shovel if you wanna do that, Richard."

It was hard to interpret Liamh's expression... with a face like that, but Lucas sensed his feeling from his tone. "I can take it if you want."

Billy sat back in his chair, gussling down his limited supply of emergency water as he watched everyone scurry about busily. Excellent... it was all going so wonderfully, wasn't it? Hell, this wasn't so hard at all.

Liamh walked over and grabbed the shovel. "Nah, i'll be fine. Or they may have another barrow around here, I dunno. Let's just fill this one up and get it movin'..."

Emerwyn finally decided to bring it upon herself to come to the grounds upon which the theatre was to be constructed. She had started her trek with a spring in her step at first, then she began to slow as the group of people came in to view, becoming a little nervous. She never was very good in large groups of people, particularly if attention was to be brought to her. This would not phase her however. She was bent on doing this, and she was going to do it! Remembering Newton’s words, she sought out Billy, who she had learned, with difficulty, that he was in charge of the play. She found him easily, though he looked different from when they’d last met. He was sitting in a chair, watching the others work. She approached him tentatively.

Richard considered making an issue out of Gaius' attitude but decide he had enough things to worry about right now. He wandered over to inspect Gaius's plans seeing what else needed doing. "Alright I'll find something."

Liamh pulled on the shovel for a moment before getting it loose, then dug deep into the soil. He smiled, and tugged at the shovel.... the smile turning to a scowl as he tried to get it unstuck. He glanced over his shoulder, noticing the deer-woman. She was a bit different, but... he was pretty sure he remembered her. He raised a hand to wave.

Seth nodded in agreement to Lucas's statement. "Mine too, its gonna hurt like a b***h. Fortunately I got nothing planned for... ever, and I can just sleep it off tomorrow. You should do the same. Perhaps lie back, have a beer. It won't be so bad."

Billy shifted the half a soggy cigar from one side of his beak to the other, and it began to unroll. With a distastefull grunt, he pulled it out and rilled it between a couple tentacles to try to extend it's life a little longer. It was easier to chew them than to smoke them these days. He didnt' notice that he had been noticed.

"Not really a beer drinker, but probably. Unless Gaius needs more help here tomorrow." He didn't notice Liamh's shovel getting stuck, or the arrival of Emer. If he had, he would have waved as well. "It gets kind of boring just lying back all the time, though."

With Newt's clumsy help, Gaius maneuvered them and their beam over to the pit, resting his end on the ground before hopping in and backing to one of the waiting holes, which spread about five feet apart.

Emerwyn paused to wave at someone who looked - well, disturbing. She couldn't for the life of her recognize him, which was odd. Either way, she paused to wave, with a smile on her face, then she continued to Billy. "Hello, Billy," she said in her soft voice.

"I know that feeling well... god do I ever. But apart from this, what else is there to do around here right now?" Seth muttered. "Come on, let's get this finished with then, ey?" He scratched at his face for a moment, before resuming digging up entire shovel-fuls of soil, dumping it in the barrow. "You guys are goin' good. If we keep goin like this, we'll be done in no time."

Richard stroked his chin, looking between the plans and the stage to be, then back again. He took out his notepad and wrote down some measurements before gathering up a saw, hammer, nails and several two by fours. He held the lumber with his orginal pair of hands, while his little arms clutched the tools to his chest. He waddled over to the bare supports and desposited things there.

The octopus glanced over when he heard his name murmured, scowling wetly as he pushed the cigar back into his mouth, "Whad'y'want?" He weazed, his voice a fraction of what it once had been.

Liamh jerked on the shovel, prying it free and attacking the dirt again with fervor. He managed to get a shovelful into the wheelbarrow before stopping to wipe his forehead. "Whew. I fell all.... constructiony. This is great."

Newt's grip was wavering, his little webbed hands trembling, as his legs wobbled and begged to leap, "Ah... G-guh... Ah.. M-mr. G-gaius... M-may... it's... heavy and..."

"Constructiony, eh?" He laughed. "Yeah, not much to do. That's why this sounded like a nice change."

"Not yet!" Gaius barked. "No whimping out yet, we're almost to the hole... Here, just lower your end down into it there, see?" He nodded toward the foot-deep hole they'd moved over, "Just nice and slow..."

Liamh took in a deep breath, leaning on his shovel. "Yeah... i normally don't see why people would wanna work outdoors, but this is kinda nice.." he took a deep breath.--khayardun: "Fresh air. Hard work. Yeah..." He glanced down at the hole and grudgingly pulled the shovel up again to take a second shovelful, hacking at the ground sort of lamely.

Already quite aware of Billy's charming disposition, Emerwyn continued, still smiling. "I was talking to a most friendly fellow the other day, Newton." She'd forgotten his last name, he had stuttered it so. "When we met, he told me of these marevlous plans. He also told me that you were the one to see for those interested in participating." Emerwyn started subtly, to try and achieve the right effect.

"Ah... " Don't slip, can't slip, keep a hold of it, Filinas, do it! His throat pulsated and swelled at the force of it as he lowered himself down.

Well this was certainly a tedious affair. He veered toward the right as he approached, walking a couple feet away from the edge of a shallow pit being dug. There didn't seem to be much going on, but there was a wheelbarrow that was mostly full of dirt perched by the side of the hole. He calculated things a bit in his head before making his slow way toward it. As he wandered by he took note of the people digging. The desperate-to-prove-himself Dhole, and two islander he'd never met. Well. If they were helping Gaius he didn't care for them anyhow. He'd have to be quick.

Richard starts to hammer the two by fours into place but it obiviously having a bit of difficulty positioning the boards correctly and hammering in the nails at the same time.

Seth smirked. "Mmm, constructiony." He paused. "Yeah, I hate manual labour. I'm a Network Admin, I would have normally sat at a desk and made sure fancy wires were all plugged in and stuff. But since I got to the island, hell, can't really do that any more."

"No freakin' kidding, Seth... I've been feeling more than a little useless, it's making me nuts." He grumbled, finally figuring out the 'push with your foot' part of shoveling.

"Oh, y'wanna'... play archetect too, then?" he grunted, shifting back. Now where did he know her.... RIGHT! Memories of the deer woman came back, but her name was not among them.

"More useless than wandering around, half drunk?" Seth grumbled, tipping more soil in the barrow, just about filling it up completely. "Cuz that's all I do now. Bloody hell."

Less jabbering, more working!" Gaius called over his shoulder, trying to keep a steady support on the beam in his arms. *Thunk!* With a jarring shudder, it hit the edge of the hole, and a quick pull back set it in place. Gaius grunted and pushed up against his own end and the beam of wood fell into its vertical position. "Quick, fill in dirt around it while I hold it up."

Liamh laughed, dumping his half-shovelful on the top. "Well, at least you're wandering around when you're half drunk instead of falling asleep on your keyboard drooling every night. Or afternoon."

"I didn't use to like being outdoors, but... I guess the dhole is changing that." He game a weak smile and shrugged. "I've never really worked outside. I don't mind manual labor." He was still unaware of Zach's approach. "Thirded on the useless feeling."

"Ah!" That he could do! He wobbled backward befor catching himself with his hands. Remaining in his crouch, he hopped up to the hole, shoving mass clumps of dirt into the hole with his oversized feet.

Liamh looked at the hole "Well, when all this gets done, we'll have something interesting to do..."

"I'm still not clear on what Billy is planning when this thing is all built." He wiped some sweat away from his brow, smearing some dirt onto his face.

He walked by, a good couple of feet from the wheelbarrow. Good thing his tail was about six feet long. It looked like they were done digging for the time being...

Richard eventually figured out that he could use his little hands to hold the board and position the nail. He was making good progress now, that is until he missed the nail and slammed in the embryonic digit. "GODDDAAMMMNIITT!" Richard literally roared.

Seth raised an eyebrow. "I used to fall asleep on my keyboard, but I never drooled on it." He paused for a moment, thinking. "How does it actually still work after that?" He grinned at Lucas. "I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who feels useless. We should do more work like this... do something about it." He was too involved in his work to noticed the scaled dragon wander nearby the group.

Casually he let his tail swish in the direction of the wheelbarrow before snaking it up to the far handle, the one closer to the hole. With one well-aimed downward tug the whole thing fell on its side. And with the pull of gravity, out tumbled ALL of the dirt that the diggers had managed to get out of the hole. He pulled the tail back as fast as he could and kept walking, now onward toward the back right side of the stage.

"No, no," Emerwyn said. "My mind is not built for such endeavors as that... However, I am a writer, and have had my time on the stage. I wish to offer my hand in those fields, that is, if you will have me." Emerwyn shifted on her feet nervously, wondering what the octopus would say

Gaius' head jerked up at the shout, a jolt of adrenaline accompanying the noise, but he quelled the surprise as he spotted Richard, hammer in hand, and surmised what had happened.

He gave her a long hard calculating stare. Another writer, eh? He hadn't seen Sid since the incident with the tentacle. He didn't know if he was angry, embarassed, or kidnapped by the labs, but he was pretty sure he didn't have a script for him yet. "Wha' sor' o' show.... y't'inkin' of?"

Tears came to Richard's eyes as he clutched his wounded hand, muttering curses most foul under his breath. The little hand was already swelling.

"Dang, that had to - " Liamh heard the crunch and thud of the wheelbarrow tipping over, turning just in time to miss the tail. "Crap!"

Emerwyn had been cooking several ideas in her head; many came and went. Some she liked, but knew that no one else would - particularly Billy. But finally, an idea nestled itself in her brain, and she was set to begin, as soon as she was approved. "I have come up with a solid plotline. All I need now is to flesh it out, that is, to write it. It is a satirical piece, consisting of various parallels to the life which we all here experience."

"NNnngh, dammit," Liamh grabbed the side of the barrow, trying to salvage whatever dirt wasn't fallen out yet.

Lucas lifted his head toward the cry, then jumped when he heard the wheelbarrow fall near him. "Gah!" Great. Looking up to see what might have knocked the wheelbarrow over, Lucas shook his head. "It wasn't me." He finally caught red out the corner of his eye, but looked up too late to see Zach. Sighing, he backed up. "Whatever. Just restart."

Seth was distracted by Richard's yelling, wondering what had happened there. Not for long however - a torrent of moist soil litterally dumped on him from above. The thylacine-instincts went into overdrive and the man loudly yelped, making a shrill noise as he bounded backwards on his hinds, falling over. He stood up again and shook the dirt off himself angrily, growling. "What the bloody hell was that?!"

"It wasn't me!" Liamh hefted the barrow upright. "It just... fell or something," he finished limply.

"Ah! Th-there!" Newt chirped, hopping back from his work after being started by the yell. Ignore it, ignore it. Too many people all around. Just inhale and exhail. Right. No one's staring. They're all freaks. All freaks together.

It seemed Gaius couldn't look away for a minute before something else was happening. Was it so hard to ask for simple, efficient workers? Letting go of the self-supporting beam, he rounded on the bunch and the mess around them. "What the hell is going on here? Why's the wheelbarrow on its side?!"

Liamh scowled and picked up the shovel again. "Maybe we should brace it next time or something? Unless Sethy here likes another dirt bath?" Liamh, startled, glanced over at Gaius, and patted the upright barrow. "It tipped over. It's no biggie. We'll fill it again."

When Gaius moved away, Newt gave a ribbit and quickly hopped after him, leaving the beam to see what else he could help him with.

Billy stared blankly at Emerwyn, squinting as he tried to make sence of what hse had said, "Pardon'?"

Seeing some commotion and not really feelling like picking up the hammer just yet Richard wandered over to the dirty group.

Emerwyn's insides turned a little. She really was no good at this. How better to say it? "It is a comedy," she offered.

Gaius groaned, rubbing a hand over his face as he surveyed the damage. "Right, no biggie..." He uttered something dark under his breath. "Just get it cleaned up."

Seth growled. "Don't look at me, I didn't do it!" He snarled towards the end of his sentence, frustrated. He brushed the dirt off his clothes, noting that he needed to do yet more laundry now. "This is what we get when the island labs buys cheap-arse crap." He growled angrily as he began to shovel up the dirt once more.

"Comedy's good. Go' a... decent lookin' gel'... s'goo' at jugglin' if... y'can fit tha' in."

Turning, he nearly stepped on Newt and had to stumble back a step to avoid falling over him. "Gah! Newt! Don't do that! ...Listen, see if you can help these guys get the situation under control... I'm going to go try to find another wheelbarrow..."

Richard slips beside Newt, "What happened?"

"Ah... wh-what about... th-the wiring for the c-curtain?" Newt was about to say befor Richard appeared once again, and he jumped in place befor hopping around to Gaius's other side.

Liamh rolled his eyes. "Look, the blasted wheelbarrow fell over, we're fine.... just gotta work harder. I dunno what caused it, it was fine a moment ago.."

Zach was at this point directly opposite of the commotion, watching it from across the prospective stage area with his arms folded and a humored expression. He didn't stay there too long. Certainly as long as they were occupied he could create a little more commotion. Nothing serious, nothing harmful, but it would still be downright infuriating. Certainly as long as they were occupied he could create a little more commotion. Nothing serious, nothing harmful, but it would still be downright infuriating. Quickly and purposefully he picked them up with his large hands. These were crucial, at least till they ordered more. But where to hide them? He cast a glance around. The jungle! Immediately he set off toward the edge of the greenery. He wouldn't go too far in, but no one would think of looking for them anywhere in there.

Emerwyn nodded, feeling a little more encouraged now. "Then, I shall finish the play, and bring you the script in periods, so that we may discuss it?" she offered. Yes, she'd done stagewriting before, but had never brought her work before a director before.

"An' make it... understandable," He weazed, "An' if y'... know anyone wantin'... t'be on th'stage... send 'em... t'th'lake." Hey, the more the merrier! This thing was building it'self!

Emerwyn actually laughed at Billy. She knew she had a strange way of speaking, compared to others, but that did not mean that she could not write like them! It was hard for her to speak thus, however, but to prove her point she put forth a valiant effort. "You don't need to worry about me, Billy. I can handle it." She smiled.

Richard grunted as Newt hopped away from him, half amused half annoyed. What did Newt mean about wiring with the curtian though? Absently he picked up a shovel, he could do that with just two hands.

Gaius threw up his arms, clearly frustrated by the whole mess. "Whatever! Back to work! Get this dirt cleared away so we can get to more imortant things!"

He nodded, "Goo'. Y'know.... were t'find me, then?" Of course she wouldn't want to tarry.

"Hey, we ARE important things. We dirt movers are going to form a union, you hear!" Liamh shook his fist in mock-protest as he stuck his shovel in the dirt again.

"Ah... y-y-yes, sir!" The frog-man yelped, rushing away to rush away from Richard to the cluster of men still digging. One look at Liamh, though, and he froze with a terrified ribbit.

"That I do. At the lake, right? I'll be seeing you there." With an awkward wave, the deer turned about, walking by the construction site again. She stood back to get a preview of the work. Perhaps she'd be able to determine --how much space there'd be on the stage, hence what kind of limitations her script would hold.TheBookOfReverie: She was careful to retain a safe distance from the workers.

That got at least a snort out of Gaius, who smirked despite his serious face. "Yeah, you and what army? You ain't got any rights on this island! Today, you're all my mindless slaves, got it? Now get digging!"

"Hey, just you wait, the uprising is coming. Peons unite!" Liamh called cheerfully over his shoulder as he struggled to get his shovel up onto the barrow.

"Ah.... s-so... er... " Newt fidgeted in his fat soggy crouch, picking at his jumper as he watched the three diggers, "Is... th-there a sp-spare sh-shuh..." Oh goodness, he wondered if the bald.... crumbly man was in any pain!

Richard turned his attention to the filled hole and hefted a shovel. "Need some help boys?" Without waiting for anwser he stared to dig.

When Richard seemed to follow him, Newt croaked again, leaping clear out of the hole from where he had been perched.

"Shovel? Yeah, i think so..." Liamh glanced at Richard. "Or there was. Maybe there's more. Or can you work the wheelbarrow? We need somebody to make sure it doesn't fall on Seth again, or he's threatening to throw us on the 'barbie', whatever that is." Liamh smirked.

He clung to the edge, bolbous eyes peering down at them from where he hid from view as best he could, "I... I c-could do that...." More walking, but at least if he hopped, he wouldn't knock someone over!

Still grumbling to himself, Gaius made his way to the other side of the stage area, to where the tools were stored. Had he left a wheelbarrow around? He glanced around, trying to remember where he'd left things...

"Come on, let's get this thing filled for Newt." He nodded at Richard, starting to shovel again with Lucas and Seth. "Anybody know any good digging songs?" He added, deadpanning.

"Mindless?" Seth's ears flickered. If ever somebody wanted to hit a sore spot with Seth, it would be about his intelligence. The man made a loud "urrraaaahh!" noise in objection, scooped up a big shovelful of dirt, and flicked it far across the construction site, aiming for Gaius with it.

Gaius was in the midst of turning when a shower of scattered dirt sprayed across the side of his face, hardly doing any damage, but irritating none the less. He rounded on the boys across the way and snorted, nostrils flaring. “HEY! What's the big idea?!"

"Sorry, don't know any digging songs." He watched wide-eyed at Seth as he tossed dirt toward Gaius, then looked away, stifling a laugh.

Richard chuckled at Liamh’s comment. "Well yes, but most of them are for holes of a slightly different demensions." He didn't see Seth's childish act, instead grinning at Newt as he deposited a shovel full of dirt into the wheel barrow. "There ya go."

"What's the big idea?" Seth glared back at Gaius. "You're the one who called me mindless! I'm not some soil-shoving loser you know!"

"KrrKIT," The green jumpered potato-like shape of a man lept to hide behind the wheelbarrow, crouched low to hopefully be ignored.

Liamh swung his shovel up to dump dirt into the barrow. "Hi ho, hi ho..... ah, scrap it." He glanced over at Seth and Gaius. "Ooo.... hey, if you guys are gonna fight, can we please take bets first?" He edged backward a little.

Growing restless, Billy figured he should go around to get to know those working for him. He recognized a few, but not everyone, and soon wheeled himself over towards where the pit for his precious under room was being built.

Gaius snorted again, ears flattening back. "Well, you're the one making a mess of an easy task. How hard is it to dig anyways?"

Liamh stuck his shovel into the ground. "Hey now, you wanna try it? You gave us wimps the digging, maybe you should lend a hand."

"Bloody hell, it's not my fault the wheelbarrow fell over!" Seth snorted in reply. "Next time, we should get those square-eyed morons at Feral Labs bring us some actual working and useful equipment for once."

"Ah!" Newt didn't want to be invovled! He didn't want to be involved! He covered his head with his hands, huddling behind the barrow whiel the shouting went on overhead.

The dhole just rubbed the back of his neck. Now it was becoming awkward. Moving a few steps from Seth, in case something did happen, he glanced at Liamh.

"Wha's... all this... shout'in goin' on o'er... here?" Billy panted as he rolled towards the edge of the hole, but not close enough to fall in.

Liamh stared at the wheelbarrow and the huddled shape behind it. "Mom, dad, you're scaring Newt.... " He raised what would have been an eyebrow.

Gaius' face flushed. "No!" He cut his hand through the air with a sharp motion. "No labs! This project is islander only! I'm not letting the labs get their dirty hands on it!"

Some minutes later Zach swept back out of the jungle, near where he'd entered it. It seemed the dirt spill was still captivating attention off on the other side. Wonderful. He was happy to note that they'd have a hell of a time finding those nails, which he'd not only deposited by a tree but covered with leaves as well. There wasn't too much else to do though. After all, there was no way he'd offer a helping hand. Well, that was enough of that anyhow. The cacophany of shouts from across the hole were music to his nonexistant ears, but he did have his own plans to keep in mind.

Richard looked at Gaius and then back at the growing rebellion. "Woah boys! Let’s just calm down here," he said, his own managerial instinct kicking in.

"Hoy!" Billy barked, growling angrily, as he drew in a sharp breath before chucking a half-filled water-bottle towards Gaius to try to get his attention.

"Labs or not," Seth grunted. "The supplies are still s**t. They were paid for by the labs, right? Tell them to give us better ones, rather than this cheap crap." He made another sharp grunt and sighed. "Look, sorry I flung dirt at you. Just... don't ever call me stupid or mindless again.”

Liamh nodded, leaning on the shovel. "Hey, we're all just -" *THWACK!* He was hit smack in the head by the off-balance thrown waterbottle. "NNGH! FRAK!" He clutched his head, dropping the shovel. "AW holy crapsicles!"

Gaius took a deep breath, winglettes flapping awkwardly as he realized he was making quite a fussy show in front of everyone and closed his eyes, rubbing his temple. "Right. Sorry. I didn't mean to insult you like that..."

Lucas winced as the waterbottle struck Liamh. "Ah, geez. Are you okay?"

Liamh was clutching his head with his human and inhuman hands both, rocking back and forth. "NNnngh... okay.... is this where i start yelling, 'The sky is falling! The sky is falling!'?"

However, his eyes shot open again at the exclamation from Liamh and he looked to see the guy clutching his head, and spun around. There was Billy, the possible culprit, and then farther off amongst the wood... Gaius saw red. Quite literally as the scaly hide moved along the edge. Clearly that was the source of whatever had happened. Had to be.

"What the fried frijoles was that?"

Lucas picked up the waterbottle that had fallen nearby and held it up for Liamh. "Rain now comes in bottle form."

He didn't notice Gaius's stare, as he was pretty much looking elsewhere with the intent of leaving. He'd had his fun.

Lip curling up in a snarl, he left the bunch gathered around Liamh and stalked to the far edge, hauling himself up out of the pit easily, and stalking up right behind Zach, his own wings spreading as far as the little limbs could manage in a subconscious attempt to look menacing. "What the hell do you think you're doing here?" he grated out once he was within ear shot.

The situation looking difused, Richard was about to step forward and give Gaius some advice, but then he shot off after something indistance. Frowning Richard followed Gaius with his eyes.

Liamh blinked at Lucas and the bottle he held up. "Oh. Huh. Where did....." he glanced upward, rubbing his head. "Did that come out of a tree?"

Seth frowned at Liamh, then glanced over at the bottle in Lucas's hand. "Holy crap, when did that happen?" He looked around the area, trying to determine where it came from. He glanced down at Liamh. "You OK down there, mate?"

He turned and saw Gaius charging off. "What's he on about now?" Liamh nodded at Seth. "Yeeeep, i was seein' stars there for a moment, but no life flashing in front of my eyes. Thank goodness. I think i'd have been bored to death."

Richard saw the red in the distance. "I think he's off to battle a dragon." Richard was somewhat perplexed, he had no idea of Zach and Gaius' history. He cautiously moved towards the pair.

Following Gaius, Lucas growled when he spotted the dragon. "It's Zach." Lucas wouldn't put it past the dragon to have been the one to throw it.

Emerwyn was just thinking of leaving when she saw a familiar, albeit different figure emerge from the trees. It was Zachary! He was not yet busied with helping, so she walked to him, just as a man who matched Gaius' description from Newt started speaking. She didn't hear what he said.

"Bloody... HOY!" He rasped, able to make a short, sharp sort of gargling noise in an attempt to call for someone attention.

"Huh." Liamh rubbed his head again, ignoring the muffled shouts from the octopus. He glanced Billy's way, then back at the dragon.

The octopus reached back into his backpack again, this time reaching his squeezebox. His eyes widened at a sudden realization. He might not have the air power, but he knew what did. Carefully juggling his limbs, he pulled it past his other belongings out to cradle on his lap. With the appropriate buttons pressed down with tentacle tips, he played a rather loud, long, obnoxious high A.

Zach turned his head and half his body around sharply, growling a little in his surprise. Just the guy he'd been hoping to avoid speaking to - Gaius.

Liamh jumped, clapping his hands to his head and staring back at the now-armed with an accordion octopus. "What the....?"

Gaius' head jerked to the side at the note, ears flattening back, but he kept his eyes on the dragon. They were standing a couple yards apart now.

If nothing else, Billy now had his attention.

Lucas grit his teeth at the note, his ears drooping, and turned toward Billy. "Don't do that, please!"

"Wha's... gotten y'all... so yappy... an' no' workin'??" Billy crowed once there was lull enough for him to rasp through.

"OY! YOU!" A voice yelled out suddenly before the newly dyed redhead jumped down easily from a tree on the edge of the construction site. Clearly, she was pointing at Richard, eyes dead set on his rotund form. The squirrel woman had been watching the ongoings for a while, and having determined the identities of a few unknown people, she decided to blow off some post change steam. It would be good exercise.

Seth winced at the loud obnoxious sound and backed up towards the edge of the dugout, cursing the fact he had nice sharp hearing.

Emerwyn still could not detect the animosity between Gaius and Zachary, so she broke the silence. "Zachary! I have not seen you since Halloween." Of course, she didn't remember Halloween very well... "And you... you must be Gaius! Newton told me about you."

"I am Emerwyn."

"Just passing by," he said curtly after turning around to face Gaius. He wasn't feeling quite as confident about the potential of a fight after getting his right wing torn into several days before.

"Nothing," Lucas called back. "We were going to get back to work. Soon...ish." He looked toward Gaius and Zachary.

Gaius' ears flattened back and he flashed the deer woman that came up from Zach's other side a confused look before his attention was drawn back by the sudden shout from the jungle behind him. How'd everything go straight to hell?

The horrible noise from afar didn't help. He paused for a moment as he stared Gaius down before a thought struck h

Gaius Harper

Gaius Harper

"No y'aint, yer... standin' there... arguin' wit' me!" He spat back, spiny fins along his head and back flairing upright.

He nudged Liamh in the shoulder with his elbow, then whispered. "Do we really want him over here?"

Gaius' face tightened. "So what if I am...? It's not because of what Sabin said!"

Seth frowned, nodding at Lucas's comment. "I don't want him over here either...." He glanced around for a moment, noting that most people were distracted right now. He inched towards Liamh and Lucas's shovels, pondering whether now was an opportune time to run off with them.

Liamh smirked over at the angry octopus. "Well, I'd be workin' if you weren't jabbering at us. You aren't comin' over here, right? Whatchagonando, annoy us to death with your weird accordion-thing while we slave away?" He glanced at Lucas, and pointed at Billy, "Hey, he started it..."

"Y'come o'er here an'... say tha' I dare ye!" Billy rasped back, chintacles wriggling frantically.

"Perfect," she chirped pleasantly before deftly throwing as much muscle as she could gather into a hard right hook. Shaking out her hand afterwards, Antony offered him a sneer, "My personal thanks, shitdick." Though she may not have looked it, she was definitely paying keen attention to his extra appendages. They were not to be trusted. Period.

Liamh stuck his shovel into the ground and turned away to face Billy with his arms crossed. "You come over HERE and make me come over there, why don'tcha? Better yet, use that noisebox to dig with! It'd be a better use of it!"

Newt meanwhile, remained forgotten under the wheelbarrow, but had caught sight of the aussie.... mammal of some sort-man stnading nearby. He had been nice, hadn't he? Oh, what was his name?? Shawn? Sam? Severyn? Oh, bugger.

The dhole had discarded his shovel earlier when he went for the water bottle and it lay on the groun. Lucas really hoped Billy wouldn't pull out that box again. "Please don't tempt him to use that thing."

Liamh turned to mutter conspiratorially to Lucas, "Hey, maybe we'll get lucky and he'll use it as a hammer."

"Some o' us.... aint so lucky... as t'have a .... full set o'... lungs, t'ank ye!" He was bristling with anger, limbs fidgeting and he had to pour a fresh bottle of water over himself.

"Uh-huh," he smiled, sounding totally unconvinced. He glanced at Emerwyn and then back to Gaius. He felt a little more confident with her around.

"That'd be nice. Maybe he'll throw it and we can bury it. Then he'd have to dig."

"Hoy! Pinnoccio!" He called as loudly as he could, "C'mere!"

Liamh turned back, about to say something else stinging in response, and then noticed the water bottle clutched in the tentacles... his mouth didn't quite close. "HEeeeeeyyyyy.... YOU"RE the one with the water bottle!"

Gaius' winglettes gave an indignant flap. "What's that tone supposed to mean!" he growled, advancing on the dragon. To hell with Sabin and his rules.

Seth bit his lower lip, his heart racing as he became edgy. As stealthily as he could manage, he slinked forwards, reaching out, grasping one paw around Liamh's shovel, his other paw around Lucas's. Then he held them both in one hand, picking up his own, leaving one behind of course so the work could be continued. Then, he made a break for it, silently dashing off into the jungle, heading for one of his many 'territory' paths to stash the loot.

Richard was taken completely by surprise by the punch. His head snapped to the side as he staggered to one knee. While he was far too dazed and stunned to respond physically, his tentacles failed around him. For a moment he merely clutched the side of his face. Then he looked up with murder in his eyes. "What in god’s name was that for!" He started to rise.

"Ah!" Newt's eyes widened as he saw him scurry off, casting a glance from Gaius to the theif and back again befor he swallowed and lept in hot persuit, (Although not so close as to cause a confrontation or seem impolite!)

Emerwyn had still not managed to say anything. The situation was obviously deep-seeded, and nothing Emerwyn said would stop it. Zachary was obviously not here to help. She smiled helplessly at him. Then, Gaius moved forward, and Emerwyn got really nervous. She placed a hand on Zachary's shoulder, since she did not know Gaius, and look imploringly at him, then she turned to Gaius.

"Wha'.... these...? They're... so I don' bloody... DROWN... t'ank you!" He huffed, spines bristling.

Liamh scowled, taking some steps toward Billy. "What's the idea, hombre? This some kinda duck shoot with my head as the target?" He pointed to his head. "What'ya chuckin' 'em around for?"

Oblivious to the theft, Lucas looked back and forth between Liamh and Billy. Lifting the bottle to his nose, he sniffed, taking in Billy's scent, not Zach's. So it was Billy. He followed the plant-man over, but did not hand Billy back his bottle. Not until he was sure he wouldn't throw it again.

It only took those couple steps to bring him within firing range. With a hiss, the octopus strethced his beak open, a sharp spray of ink arching through the air to spray down black across the viney-man's face and shoulders.

Seth continued to run off, heading for the area in the jungle, stopping on a path to the duplexes. Then he stopped, dropped the shovels, got down on all-fours and began to use his front paws to dig. He was still quite edgy and nervous as he dug, dirt flying everywhere as he dug with much vigor, intending to dig a hole at least two feet down, and big enough to bury the shovels in.

"UUuaaaagh!" Liamh yelped, retching as he wiped the nasty black liquid from his face and nose as best he could. "AAaaugh, nasty! Guuaagkh!"

"Oh sh-" Lucas side-stepped away from Liamh as Billy let loose his ink. Looking at the black liquid drip from the other guy, Lucas grimaced. "Eww."

Newt landed behind some ferns nearby, his green slimy skin blending in fairly well as he watched the thylacine burry his catch, and held his breath in case a nervious croak bubbled up without his permission.

A step behind her secured some distance between the two of them, and she met his eyes head on, standing her ground. Her own eyes burned lethally, her mutinous gaze amplified by their bloody color. With an eerily calm voice, Antony answered his question, "Like I said, I had to thank you... But if you want to hear it again, I'd be happy to repeat it a little louder for an elderly man such as yourself." She mimicked tipping a hat to him with a dangerous grin.

Zach spread his own wings as Gaius approached. Big, he had to look big. He was still on edge after Alec had leapt at him. He felt some pain from his right wing. The tears were pretty much exposed. He felt Emerwyn's odd hand on his shoulder. Uh-oh. He didn't want Gaius to say anything incriminating about him around her. "Jeez. Just calm down, Gaius. You're scaring Emerwyn."

"Now... get back... t'diggin'!" Billy beamed, proud for this blow made.

"What the hell, man?" Liamh spat some ink from his lips, trying to wipe his eyes with a viney hand and not accomplishing much. He got one eye cleared and stomped over to Billy. "That's just nasty!"

"Tha's... bloody nature beanstalk!"

It didn't take Seth long to dig a nice hole with his clawed paw-hands. When the hole was large enough, he carefully lay the shovels in, and began to bury the evidence. He did this part casually, not knowing he was being watched. After he finished, he flicked sand over the place to hide the newly-dug up area.

"Way to win over people who are only volunteering," Lucas gave Billy a look, but stood ready to jump if the octopus thought about spraying him.

Gaius stopped in his tracks, a few feet from Zach, as he noticed the deer lady's fearful looks, and the way she cowered back against him. For a moment, his wings sagged and he deflated, guilt and shame washing over him for showing such a face in front of such a delicate woman, but his temper was back the next moment. That was wrong! She was supposed to be afraid of Zach, not him!

Emerwyn's silent pleas were obviously not working, and the two enemies were not going to back down easily. She would not bear to have them fight. "Please!" she said desperately, though not particularly scared. She was, at least, glad that Zachary was showing some want to stop. She took her hand from Zach, stepping between them. "You do not need to be acting like this, either of you... If we cannot join together, then what else do we have?”

Here she noticed from her new vantage point that there was more ruckus a ways off. She had never seen this side of the Island before.

Liamh scowled darkly, pulling his inked shirt over his head, wiping his face with it, and tossing it aside. "Okay, that's IT. You want digging?" He reached forward with both hands and grabbed the nearest tentacles, dragging the octopus man forward and toward the nearest hole. "Dig yourself!"

"Jes'.... doin' me job, which is... t'make sure you... do yer job!" He barked back, the red spreading over his skin in siderweb blossoms.

As he was suddenly tugged out of his chair, he clung to the arms of it with his rear tentacles, flailing about his viney grasp as he gave a breathy yelp, "Gerroff!! Lemme'... go!"

"Join together?" the horse-man snorted, giving a toss of his head, though his voice sounded less sure, having seen the gleam of white fangs beneath the predatory yellow eyes. He had to clamp down on the thrill of terror that ran through him, something akin to a night terror, and the sense of being hunted. "You mean throw my lot in with this jerk and his lab-friends? I'd sooner hang myself, thank you!"

Lucas watched in shock as Liamh pulled Billy from his chair and tried to drag him. "What, er- Liamh." He wasn't sure what to do. If he should stop it or let Liamh get his payback for the ink.

Liamh gave a tug, pulling billy down into the hole with him in a tentacley heap. "Booyah!" He cried, flexing his arms over his pale skinned, green-patched body. "Hah!... oh, wait." He realized bringing the octopus down with them was not the brightest idea....

Bill wrapped all eight limbs around the plantman as they fell, squeezing around whatever he could grab like eight slimy, pissed off pythons.

Zach folded his wings again, though the frill remained spread. He was on edge now, worried. But he was far too proud to deny his allegience. Hopefully Emerwyn would understand. If not....

Richard raised himself to his feet and spread his clawed hands. He glowered at her as he drew himself to his full six feet of height, a growl rising in his throat. His tentacles would strike her as soon as either of them took a step closer. "Madame," the scorn dripping from his voice, "If thats the way you'd like to communicate then I'm sure everything else about you is equally worthless."

With the shovels properly buried and their dig site hidden nicely, Seth looked around, making a note of where they were, and how to find them again when the time came. He stood up once more and dusted off his paws, satisfied. With that, he casually wandered back towards the construction site to finish the job.

Newt waited a few moments to make sure Seth was gone befor hopping over to look around and find the soft spot. He was trying to take Gaius's shovels! Well, he'd see about that. Glancing around frantically to make sure no one was watching him, he grabbed a stick to quickly try to dig them free.

Emerwyn looked to Zach, a confused expression on her face. Lab-friends? He was in league with - or friends with - them? The fact that this was news to her was painfully obvious on her face. Her nonexistant brow furrowed. "It does not matter, not to me..." She said, mostly to herself.

"At least I don't have to write up an Island PTA newsletter to get attention and a false feeling of power," she said with a smile, barely having to look up to keep her eyes on him. At around 5'10'' herself, his height didn't frighten her in the least. The tails behind her twitched and made alert motions as she stared him down, her own claws ready to react.

Well, anyone who was against the labs would be no friend of his. He gave Gaius a look of disdain. "And how has all your constant, pointless bickering helped you so far? You say you hate them so much, but who’s supplying the bed you sleep on, the roof over your head here, your food? They are. If you were really serious about how much you hate the labs you’d be living on your own in the jungle, and taking your chances with Annie. I’d bet they even gave you all the wood and tools you’re using here. How rebellious of you. You’re really convincing me.” He snorted.

Gaius' hackles rose with every word that flew from the dragon's mouth, striking at him like bee stings that burned and irritated. His fist clenched at his side tightened, veins clear against the still-human skin. With a sudden move, Gaius did what he would forever regret later, and took a step forward, forcibly shoving Emerwyn aside with an arm, and nailed Zach straight up under the long chin with his other.

Seth returned to the construction site and frowned, people were still quite distracted with their arguing, so forth. He picked up the last remaining shovel and casually went back to finish the digging job as if nothing had ever happened.

He was in the action of drawing back for another swing when a sudden spasm overtook his body and his furious expression melted away, eyes glazing over as he crumpled on the spot.

It was difficult for the frog man to hop with both shovels, but he managed to balance them in his skinny arms while he practiced walking without hopping all hte way back to the other side of the campside. He had been sure to avoid where the man might have ended up. He paused, about to ask gaius something, but he seemed rather busy, so he left the shovels leaning against the far, finished side of the pit.

Emerwyn was knocked right off of her feet, falling to the ground with a dull thud. She looked up, startled and frightened as Gaius struck Zachary, then collapsed himself. She winced, trying to sit up right away.

Liamh yelped, going down with the tentacles wrapped around him, wrestling frantically to try to get them off him. "Auurgh!" He gritted his teeth, flailing at the octopus. "Get offa me, you... nngh! You... bottle-chucking.... projectile.. vomiting... accordion-playing... " he rolled around, feeling the choking squeeze of the tentacles and the suckers pulling at his already loose skin. Part of his arm came off and he got one hand free long enough to give a badly aimed swing at Billy's head.

Zach reeled back after the punch, that same horrible catlike growl full of screechy notes coming out as a roar. His head had snapped upward from the force of the punch, leaving him to stumble. Not again! He cupped a hand under his jaw, drawing in some unsteady breaths. By the time he'd recovered, it seemed Gaius had been buzzed. He stared down at his attacker, still surprised, still angry himself under the surface. Not long after, he turned his attention to Emerwyn. He offered his free hand to help her up, wincing at the pain in his jaw. He didn't know quite what to say, nor did he think his jaw was in any condition for talking.

Gaius... was as hopeless a case as ever. But maybe one day he'd see the truth.

His skull felt softer than it should have, his fist bouncing against the man's soft head and he flopped off of him to the ground, flailing tentacles with a pained groan.

Richard's eyes buldged and he shifted his weight to take a step toward her but stopped himself. Don't stoop to her level, he chided himself, still the image of his teeth in her throat bubbled through his mind. "I gave everyone all the information I've managed to gather since I got here. Things that people are better off knowing. Or perhaps you find it funny when everyone has to figure out everything about this place on their own. Or maybe you’re like Zach and just love to watch the rest of us suffer." His speach was interspered with a saw like growl.

Liamh peeled himself away as best he could from some of the tentacles, trying to roll over on top of Billy. The parts of his skin that had been tentacled showed strange, greenish sucker marks, and his glasses were hanging askew from his ears. "Grah! I'll... ....... Take that!" He snorted, pointing a finger at Billy and trying to decide whether he should attempt pinning the other man.

Emerwyn smiled weakly, accepting Zach's scaly hand. "Zachary..." she pushed aside anything else she may have wnated to say to him. "Are you alright?" She gently reached up a hoofed hand to inspect where Zach had been struck.

Stepping away from the two, not wanting to get dragged into any more hitting or spitting. He did wince as skin fell away from Liamh. "Okay, maybe you guys should settle down?"

Billy made an unintelligable noise, wrything on the floor as the horizontal slitted pupils of his eyes wobbled unevenly befor he managed to find which way was down again. His chair! s**t, it was all the way up out of reach, he gave an angry growling noise in the back of his throat, "Y'better... stay away!" He crawled backward away from him across the dirt, "I swear I'll..." When he noted the scraps of skin still stuck to his suckers, his color drained into a more greenish grey, "Y'bloody... MOLTED on me!"

"One day you're going to snoop your granny panties into someone's personal business," Antony began cheerfully, though there was a threatening edge to each and every one of her words. "Be careful who you piss off grandpa because while the labs make everyone suffer, they don't sleep on your side of the fence..." She took the time to curl a lock of hair with her clawed finger while surveying Richard lazily (though her tails revealed that she was still on guard). "Besides, all of your 'information' has been quite common knowledge for sometime now... And those who don't know no longer live in their duplexes. I personally would love to see you hand deliver your newsletter to Ms. Annie..." Her nasty smile had returned again.

Liamh sat on the ground, panting, and straightened his glasses. He glanced at Billy. "..... Wow.... i think that's the first fight i've ever won!" he made a face, examining the patch of ripped-away skin on his arm. ".... OW... freaking.... okay, that stings a little," he poked at it.

"Leave him be, Liamh." Lucas ran fingers through his hair, feeling very awkward in this situation. Looking around to check on everyone else, his eyes widened as he spotted Gaius lying on the ground near Zach. And Emerwyn was there, of all people. Leaving the plant-man and octopus on their own, Lucas hurried over to Gaius. "What the hell happened?" He shot a dark look to Zach, then a confused one at Emerwyn.

"Tha's... bloody... disgustin' wha'... th'bloody hell is... wrong wit' ye?" He made a face, sticking his tongue out as he whipped his limbs about to the tro clean them off frantically.

Zach couldn't manage a smile himself. He swallowed, and it hurt. As usual he was coming away with injuries left and right simply for saying what he thought. It was hard to feel safe when so few people had any self control any more. He tried not to wince at her light touch, then pulled his head away. All he needed was an ice pack or something. It was routine. "Fine. Happens... all the time." He didn't elaborate. "What about you? Did... did he hurt you?"

"Hey! You ripped my skin off, i'm the victim here," Liamh pouted, crossing his arms. "..... err... sorry 'bout the shedding, though.." he still felt awful for leaving the mess in Gaius' room, and though he didn't feel too bad about grossing Billy out after being barfed on, it was still a point of embarrassment. "And anyway, YOU barfed on me! What the heck!"

"I am fine. He did not hurt me." She pulled back her hand as he winced away. Then she turned, hearing Lucas' familiar voice. "Lucas-"

"S'no' barf, y'disgustin'.... bush! S'called ink! He tried to push himself up to some sort of standing position, limbs shifting and coiling and trembling to keep himself balanced. Sort out arms from legs. Alright, just pay attention to what limb is where. It was easier to move underwater. Swimming felt more natural. Walking was a far more complicated matter.

"Ink? You barf ink?" Liamh gave Billy an incredulous look. "That's..... weird." He pushed himself to his feet with a grunt and dusted himself off, making for the edge of the hip-height hole.

It was still over the octopus man's head, and his fins flattened as he glanced upward at it with raised brows. s**t. "It aint... barfin' so much as.... spittin'."

"Gaius here tried... talking with his fists. This," Zach made a motion at the inert body of the pegasus-man, "is what happens... when you do that. I suggest you... keep it in mind."

"And who you callin' a bush!" he made a face. He didn't have much response to that. "It's more like.... shrubbery.... I'll have you know." He hefted himself over the edge and sat there, glancing down at Billy. "Spittin', huh....." he rubbed at the patch on his human-ish arm. "What any kid wouldn't give for THAT trick in school."

"Emerwyn?" Why was she with Zach? Lucas bent down to check on the other man, but stopped and lifted his head toward Zach as he spoke, eyes narrowing. "Did you hit him?" What Zach said sounded more like a threat. The idea that the labs had buzzed Gaius had not even entered his mind.

Seth began to hum as he dug out the last part of the trench, casually working despite the cacophony around him. He smirked, quite pleased. Nothing could sour his mood right now. The most useful pieces of his plan were secure. "Finished." He announced to nobody in particular. "At least something productive got done today."

Billy gave a low chuckle, color returning to his normal greyish blue as he crawled along a few feet of the wall of dirt and back again. He could possibly climb out, right? Right... sure... it was just a matter of getting started.

Liamh stared at Billy again for a long second. He was going to hate himself for this... "Err.... here.." He held out a hand. "If i promise not to molt on ya, that is?"

"Zachary did not touch him," Emerwyn interjected, a little forcefully. She still refused to admit that Zach probably would have, if he was pushed far enough. "I-I mean, they were quarreling... then Gaius grew upset, and-" This was all making her very uncomfortable.

"Keep yer creepy.... plant hands... t'yerself! Y't'ink... I can't do this... meself?" He huffed, glowering up at him in not so gracefully hidden embarassment.

Richard's mind spun trying to figure out what part of the newsletter she could have objected to so voliently. The interviews? No. The graveyard? No The construction? The chip article? He had mentioned only two by name, Jamal and Anne. He'd thought he'd been tactful with that appearently not enough. Still it was best not to assume. "Funny, my experiance has been the opposite. Now if you’re quite done being a b***h, I have other things to do." Richard continued to glower at her but lowered his claws a tad.

Why would he have to bother with anything so crude as a punch when they'd zap his enemies for him? He was tempted to laugh at the dhole's guess. "Look, he's not dead, if that's... what you were wondering. Just got buzzed."

"Hey! Not my fault! It's not easy being green." He smirked. "If i didn't think you could do it, I'd take off with those water-bombs you chucked at me. I'm just covering my arse since i know you'll be outta there in two seconds." He scratched at his chin with his twiggy hand.

Billy shifted, fins flairing in an attempt to look impressive, "Aye, well, ye'll.... jes' see ...me do it!" He was panting heavily, already lookinga bit greyer.

So Gaius had been buzzed. Letting out a slow breath, he nodded. Had it just been Zach, he probably wouldn't have completely believed him, but he did trust Emerwyn's word. "Okay, I believe you. I hope you are going now." He looked at Zach. Had it only been them, more would have been said, but he wasn't going to get into anything with Emerwyn there.

Liamh winced. Dang, he was looking kind of... limp.... "Okay, well, I'll just help myself to one of these....." he leaned over, rummaging in Billy's fallen satchel for a water bottle. "I'm a bit parched. You know. Gotta water the bush and all."

The fact that she was getting to him was enough to satisfy her for the time being. "I just hope you'll take the consequences of your actions in stride..." She stepped back and gave a little finger wave before surveying the crowd of people in search of something more entertaining.

Emerwyn nodded to Lucas. It seemed there was a lot that Emerwyn did not know about Zachary. Like how many enemies he had gathered. She sighed, feeling drained emotionally, and even physically, somehow. She wished she didn't have to be in the middle of all of this. Lucas was her friend as well. Where did she stand??

Billy was panting, beak parted open as he gasped at the air. His tentacles stretched upwards to try to cling to the edge, groping along to feel for his wheelchair. "If.... y'wanted... y'coul'... pass one o' them... down here..."

Zach rubbed his jaw again. He wasn't in the mood for any more violence for today, no matter how satisfying it was to see justice upheld. Tail whipping in agitation, he moved away from the dhole and Gaius. "I'm not going to wait around for that maniac to come to." He glanced around one last time at the chaos that had ensued elsewhere, then went back to covering his lower jaw. "Bye, Emer." As quickly as he could at his walking pace, he set off for the cafeteria. He really needed an ice pack.

Liamh pulled a bottle out of the bag and popped the top off, holding it out to Billy. "Dang. I never realized fistfights were that much work." He pulled out a second one for himself, but didn't open it. He glanced at the wheelchair.

The octopus made a sad little desperate noise in his throat as he reached up to try to snatch it with a wrigging tentacle, thirstily biting at the air.

Liamh lowered it hesitantly toward the writhing tentacle, hoping to avoid any more contact with suckers and trying not to spill the water.

He watched the dragon go out of the corner of his eye, then returned his attention to Gaius. Not sure how long he would be out, he debated about moving him. "Geez..." What could Zach have said to set Gaius off? Nudging Gaius, he waited to see if that might rouse him.

Emerwyn waved feebly to Zachary, knowing it was best not to urge him to stay and 'settle differences.' Emerwyn knew better than to think that would work. "It seemed to me to be an old argument," Emerwyn suggested. "They stand on very different planes with their beliefs... And beliefs are highly dangerous things, when questioned or challegned." Emerwyn sighed again.

As Antony turned, Richard was sorely tempted to rush forward and hit her. Instead he simply fumed, unable to figure out some way to crack her. She thought she had still won! And that was just infuriating. The side of his face ached. "Nothing but a rotten child." He said just loud enough for hear, a last ditch attempt to get her goat, as he to took a step back and surveyed the rather decimated scene.

Once he managed to grab the plastic bottle, Billy greedily dumped the contents into the pulsating oraphice on the side of his head and the color returned to his face. "Now... get... away from me chair." He gurgled once he caught his breath.

The horse-man, who'd fallen down backwards and been lying in an awkward position on his side, groaned faintly, clenching his eyes as sense began to return to the shocked brain cells.

"Yeah, yeah... hold your hors- er, tentacles...." Liamh leaned over, looking in the bag again. He rummaged around, finding something other than a water bottle. He pulled out a pack of cigarettes. "Man. You know, these are kind of bad for ya...." he examined the box, smelled it, then put it aside. He put his hand back in and rummaged for something else.

"Ah... hey... hey! Get... get outa' there!" He grappled at the wall again, this time trying to pull himself up. He managed to lift a few feet, but his grip slipped and he fell back down into a cushion of his coils.

"I don't blame Gaius for getting upset." He muttered under his breath, then bit his tongue from him making a comment on Zach and his 'beliefs'. When Gaius started to come around, Lucas slowly pulled him into a sitting position, since he was sure lying on him on his back wouldn't be comfortably for his wings.

Liamh ignored the octopus' protests, pulling out a packet that smelled rather like fish. "Ugh... man. That's gross." He put it on top of the bag and kept rooting. "Hey, what's this?" he pulled out something that looked like a wallet - no, a passport. Score! "Heeeyyy.... sweet." He opened it up and started flipping through it.

Emerwyn also refrained from speech. She still didn't know what to say. Thankfully the responsibility was removed from her when Gaius began to come to. Still feeling instinctively nervous, if not her than the Doe, she stood where she was, watching from there.

One of his eyes blinked open blearily. "Wha-" he croaked. "What happened?" He winced, clutching his head as the elevation brought with it the pounding residual effects of the zapping. "Augh... hell..."

"Ah... give tha' back! Hoy!" He managed to coil a tentacle tip around the bottom of his wheelchair, slowly pulling himself up. The further up he grew, he snaked another limb up to streignthen his grip. Just keep breathing, he could do this! His leg-limbs arched around to grab at the ground, a free arm-limb making a grab for the plant man's ankle.

"You got zapped, apparently. Zach is gone. You okay?" When he felt Gaius was able to stay upright on his own, Lucas let go. He looked over at Emerwyn. "You, too. Are you all right?"

Richard, seeing the cluster of people around what appeared to be a fallen Gaius, Richard began to move in that direction, keeping an eye peeled for any sudden encounters along the way. He appeared peering over Lucas' shoulder. "It does appear I've missed something."

Emerwyn looked away a little. Though Gaius had indeed pushed her in his rage, she was not going to admit it. Emerwyn had a foul weakness for refusing to see the weakness in others. She simply nodded. "I am alright." She turned to Gaius now as well.

Liamh, unaware of the tentacle, kept perusing the passport. "Heh, now THERE's a mugshot. Good grief. Hey, is this really a stamp from Singapore? I always wanted to see Singapore." he flipped through some more pages.

"Pu' tha' down, it aint yer business!" He grabbed a hold of the ankle and clung tightly with as many suckers as he could wrap around the man, a second limb quickly flying forward to join the first. "Drop it!"

"Sad, someone who holds themselves in such high esteem can't even formulate a decent jab," Antony grinned sweetly, her whiskers twitching slightly before she turned and made her way into the jungle and out of sight once more. She had better places to be.

"Ack!" Liamh squawked, leaning backward and twisting his torso away. "No, leggo!" He held the passport out of reach. "I'll hold it hostage! No tentacles! Agh!"

Gaius rubbed his head. Everything just before the zapping was fuzzy... both from the electricity and the adrenaline that'd been pumping through his system. He recalled lashing out, he must have taken a swing at Zach. As he grew more aware of his surroundings, he noticed Emerwyn standing nearby and realized that she'd been witness to all of that. His cheeks flushed with shame as he turned his head away from her large eyes.

With his digging task done, Seth placed his shovel into the ground in such a way that it would stand up by itself. Then he wheeled the barrow off to dump the soil off on the side somewhere. He smirked and wheeled the barrow back to its place, then quietly slipped away from the site, heading back towards his duplex. He considered the day a success, and that this was just the beginning of something much bigger to come.

"I-I'm alright..." he muttered. "Don't know what came over me..."

Richard looked at Lucas, his face still a bit flushed from the encounter with Antony. "What happened here?"

"Drop it... an' then I'll... leggo'!" He snapped back with a hiss, reaching yet another around to try to climb up his legs and drag the rest of his complicated body out of the hole.

"Just a fight that ended rather abruptly with Gaius being zapped," he replied to the voice, then looked up. He stared at Richard brielfy, then looked away. ...that was...bizarre. He then shook his head. "I'm glad you are okay." He directed that to both Gaius and Emerwyn, then sighed.

"No way, first you let go, then i'll drop it!" Liamh flailed with the passport, trying to squirm his leg away from the encroaching tentacles wrapping around it. He could feel a small twig get stuck under a sucker.

Billy held his beak open, fins flaired defensively, "I'll ink again!"

Liamh's eyes went wide. "Nnngh.... no, okay, not that! I'll drop it! Just..... no inking..." he carefully leaned over and placed the passport on the bag next to the fishpacket. “There... see? All good...." He shielded his face with his one hand.

"Ah. I see," Richard said rather non-commitially as he joined them. He smiled at Emerwyn, although he did not recognize her. "I don't suppose anyone could tell me the name of that squirrel woman?"

The presence of a new form made Emerwyn feel even more uncomfortable. She would later only blame herself for getting herself involved. As for the question that Richard, yes she remembered the intriguing converstation they had had one day - had posed, she shook her head, secretly glad for a change of subject.

Not so carefully, Billy unwound his grip on Liamh, suckers leaving little green marks as he crawled back away from him, "Goo'. Righ'!"

Gaius, still avoiding looking at the deer woman, rolled to his knees as he worked on standing up. "'m fine, 'm fine..." Somehow, the 'squirrel woman' sounded familiar, but in his turmoiled state, he was in no mindset to recall Antony's identity. Instead, he looked back over the work site and the distinct lack of work with a sagging frown and sighed.

Liamh pulled his leg up carefully and examined it, sitting indian-style. "Ugh, it's green.... i hate that it's green..." he muttered to himself. "Guh. Hey, you have any gum in there?" He jerked a thumb at the bag, eyeing Billy cautiously.

"Squirrel woman?" He hadn't seen anyone like that, nor did he know of anyone turning into a squirrel. "I don't know anyone like that." He looked around, as he got to his feet, offering Gaius a hand if he wanted it. "Let's get back to work."

Richard sighed for a different reason, he still had no idea why she had been so upset. A bruise was forming on his jaw. "I don't suppose anyone here has less voilent opinions on the newletter?" Voice slightly hopeful.

The octopus gave a sniff, crawling to lean against the large wheel of his chair, "An' I though'.... I had it bad," He eyed the flaking skin with an odd expression, part interested grin, part bitter scowl.

"Yeah... i dunno if you can get worse than, uh, no legs... no offense... but frankly i just creep myself out." he held up his arm. He laughed wryly. "Ugh. I need a beer. I don't even LIKE beer and i need a beer. Maybe i could like beer. Do beer and fistfights go together?" He scratched his bald, slowly flaking head.

That made Billy's mouth settle for a smile, "I t'ink... a bi', aye, probably," He chuckled. "How d'ye.... move it, ezactly? Th'.... planty bits?"

Gaius snorted. "Work, right..." He cast a glance back over his shoulder, but as he caught sight of the deer, quickly turned away, ashamed again and inwardly cringed, recalling now how she'd stood before him as he barreled down on Zach...

Liamh boggled, putting his hand down to stare at it. "Ummm.... wow. I don't know... they don't all move, i don't think... i mean, the parts that used to be fingers and whatnot move... kinda hard to control, but i'm getting the hang of it. But the little bits... sometimes i think they twitch, but i can't tell. I once spent a whole day staring at them to see if they'd move, but then again, that's one of the reasons I came out here.... was going a little batty." He pointed at his head. "Anyway, i think it works like tendons." He nodded at Billy's tentacles. "Hard gettin' used to those?"

Emerwyn moved to stop Gaius before he walked off. She placed a hoofed hand on his shoulder, and looked him in the eyes. "It's alright," she whispered softly, only to him. She then released him and stepped back, her eyes shining.

Then, she looked at Richard. "A newsletter?" She'd never seen nor heard of such a thing.

Gaius' head jerked around to look down into her face, confusion quickly passing to surprise, and overwhelming guilt and embarassment. How could she forgive him so easily? Furrowing his brows, he turned away again and hurried towards where the other men were talking, wanting nothing more than to find a hole to hide in.

"Took me... months t'really... get th'hang o' th'lot o' 'em..." He shifted befor gripping the side of his chair and worked on hefting himself up into the seat again.

Richard smiled at the interest. "Yes, It should be on your doorstep. I'd love to hear what you thought of it."

He hadn't heard about a newsletter either. He only gave Gaius and Emerwyn a quick look, curious about what they were saying, but that was it. Craning his neck, he saw that both Liamh and Billy were not dead or drowning in ink.

Liamh stayed where he was on the ground, smirking slightly as Billy got himself situated again. "Hey, so, do we wanna get back to work, or do we wanna try that whole pit-fighting thing again? I was getting pretty good at that, but I gotta practice to keep on top of my game, you know." He tried to deadpan, but couldn't quite wipe the grin off.

"Nah.... probably shoul'... finish wha' th'hose... says..." He coughed, reaching around to fumble through his pack for another waterbottle, but frowned when he felt nothing. "Ach...."

"Dammit, where'd everyone go..." Gaius muttered, ignoring the people at his back and looking around. He spotted a green lump crouched amongst the log-benches and started for it. "Hey! Newt! What're you doing lying around being lazy?"

"I have not been to my room in a long time," Emerwyn said. And when she did go to shower, she was far too tired to notice it. "I am quite intrigued to see it. Then I will let you know what I think." She smiled, growing gradually more weary.

Liamh smirked and held up his unopened waterbottle. "Thirsty?"

It finally dawned on Richard, who he was talking too. "Emerwyn! Tis good to you again my lady." He winked.

Heading back to the construction area, the dhole looked around for something else to do, since it seemed most of the shoveling was now done.

"Oh! Ah! I was t-trying... I w-was waiting... y-you were t-talking... er... th-the... s-strange d-dragon man... um...KrrKIT!" The frog-man flailed once he was spotted, leaping to sit upright at attention.

Emerwyn smiled, happy to see that the man, strangely changed he was, too, had finally recognized her. She nodded. "And I am glad to see you again, as well." She was getting more light-headed now, and swayed on her feet slightly.

When he came up with none, Billy frowned, tentacles tremblign about the arms of his chair as he shifted befor reaching out towards it, "Hey.... y'be... nice now... I need tha'..."

Richard watched her with some concern. "Are you alright?" He offered a clawed hand to steady her.

Gaius pressed the side of his temple, still dealing with upset emotions and a residual headache, as well as the ego-beating he'd received. "Slow down Newt... What were you waiting for?"

"Yes, I-I'm fine..." She reached a hand up to her head, and brushed her bangs away. "I am just tired, that is all. It has been a rather eventfull afternoon... You will have to tell me more of this newspaper. If you ever need a writer, actually, I would be happy to lend my services. I did much writing back at my home."

"Ah... y-you... w-wanted to sp-speak to me...earlier?" He peeped, worried he had caught the pegasis at a bad time.

"You know... I have this powerful need to drink right about now... Maybe I should just chug it..." Liamh's eyes twinkled. "But then, you know, I'm not sure where this thing's been, so maybe I should just chuck it... whatddya think?" he made a motion as if to pitch it over his shoulder.

"No!" Billy didn't think it was very funny, reaching out for it frantically, "I need it... t'breath...!"

"Nuh... I did?" He frowned, trying to recall earlier... just a couple hours ago, hadn't it been? "Oh! Right, yeah, about the wiring... have you made any progress on the system for the curtains?"

Liamh's eyes widened. "Breathe? Oh. Dang. Well, it's hard to be evil about THAT..." he glanced at the bottle, then held it up to Billy. "Well, I'll find another way to milk you for everything you've got. Poker, maybe."

"Cards... I could deal wit'...." He snatched it back to clutch it amongst his tentacles, panting slightly as he tried to relax and gave his collar a nervious rub.

"Ah... Y-yes! I j-just... don't have my... I m-made some p-pulleys a f-few days ago..." The frog man glanced about to see where he had set down his make-shift bag before.

Liamh smirked. "Great. Make sure to bring a lot of, uhh..." his face fell. "Dang. I guess money's no good here." he looked a bit perplexed. "What do we use, freakin' coconuts?" He turned his head, rolling over to get to his feet.

Richard gritted his teeth together. It had certianly an eventful day and it was far from over. "Indeed. As for the newletter I shall happly talk your ear off about it if you'd let me. I'd love to print anything you cared to write. I'm looking for help. The first one is all my own work. I hope it serves as seed for something larger."

"I wouln' mind... bettin' fish," Billy chuckled, giving the cap of the bottle a careful, testing nibble with his beak befor resettling it again.

Liamh brushed his butt off. "Eugh, fish. Cookies, maybe. But not fish." he shuddered, staring down into the hole. "Hey, where'd my shovel go?"

Gaius moved to follow Newt, then paused and looked around at the others. Cupping his hands around his mouth, he gave a great bellow. "GET BACK TO WORK!" and then continued on.

"We'll work... soemthin' out," He chuckled, "Shrimp. Sushi. Clams. ....Crabs. Lopster. Fis,.... I aint picky."

"HEIL, MEIN FURERMASTER!" Liamh called back over his shoulder. He chuckled at Billy "Shrimp... man, i haven't had shrimp in ages..." He started searching around for his shovel. "Dangit. Hand me that accordion-thing, i may have to use it. Where's my shovel?"

Emerwyn nodded, smiling. She did not know what to expect from the newletter, but knew that it would be an interesting read, for Richard to have been expecting them to have a harsh, even violent, opinion of it. But now, she had to return home, to Ian. She'd stop by her room and get the paper. She smiled. "I look forward to it," she almost panted. "Good day to you, Richard." With a wave, she turned, and began to walk off, in the direction of the duplexes.

"Ah, y-yes! I... r-remember my old... old b-bucket? W-with the wheels? I t-took them off and j-just... f-fiddled with them and made p-pulleys, and.... I m-made others out of other th-things too! I'm j-just not sure about the rope... should we ask the luh-luh-labs?" Newt hopped after Gaius adoringly, babbling frantically in hopes of gaining his attention.

Gaius' head jerked up at the keyword and he looked sharply at Newt before taking a deep breath and visibly calming himself. "...Can't you get rope from some place other than the labs...?"

Richard waved as Emerwyn departed, then looked around, finding himself alone. He looked over at the few remaining figures at the work site. He considers rejoining them as he continued to rub his jaw. The hell with it. He’d had enough for one day. He wandered off in the direction of his own duplex.

"I... sup-sup-suppose so... it'll... b-be difficult, but if we f-found some... th-thick grasses or something to... make rope..." He frowned. It would be easier and better from the labs, but if Gaius wanted it from scratch, he'd have it.

Gaius scrunched up his nose distastefully. He was loathe to consider asking the labs for anything so shortly after the encounter with Zach, feeling like it was 'cheating' somehow, but Newt was right about it being difficult... "If you can't find anything suitable... then... ask them," he grated out. "But make sure it's the best they can provide."

"I... m-might have a l-little somewhere..." it had gotten frayed and someone had tossed it out from the back of one of the jeeps. He wasn't sure how long it was, though. Rope was definatly a comodity.

The horse-man gave a curt nod and finally broke into a small smile back at the frog, apparantly pleased. "Seems rope is the one thing we need... Can you have the pulley system done within two weeks?"

"I... ah... p-puh-possibly, b-but..." He glanced over to the unfinished stage, "I d-don't know about instillation."

Gaius just gave a smile and nodded. "Leave that to me..." Turning back to the others, he grumbled about the diminishing numbers and lack of progress, despite what they had managed today. Clapping his hands together, he shouted, "Okay guys, break's over!" With that, he headed for the wood pile, intending to finish off some more beams. He was going to see this project completed, and no lab rat was going to stop him.

"I'll... j-just get w-working on that , then!" Newt hopped a few paces after Gaius befor squatting still.

Billy, meanwhile was looking anxious now that he was down to his last waterbottle. "I shoul'... head back t'th'lake... aye, poker some nigh'... definatly."

Liamh chuckled. "You bet! .... Literally." He shook his head and hopped back down into the hole to search for his shovel.

The morning's excitement over, the remaining men were able to settle down. While not as speedy as before, they managed to get the remainder of the support beams in place with minimal bumps and bruises before calling it a day.

The next day, the construction site appears rather different.

Specifically, all of the tools and all of the lumber and supplies that had been left at the site ((excluding any materials that had been hidden)) are missing. No saws, no hammers, no nails, no lumber... nothing.

If anyone goes to check out the supply room, they will find it locked. Attached to its door is a small note:

Oz had been very scarce from the construction site of late. Part of it was his fear that maybe the other Islanders had come to view him as some kind of liability, or even a danger to have around in a place full of heavy items and sharp things. The other part was a physical barrier - his back. For a long while, he'd had to hobble about to the cafeteria, the entertainment room, even the medical centre to beg for painkillers. He vehemently refused on principles to ask the labs for anything to aid his posture or support his back.

But he'd regained much balance in the past week or more, and could hold himself a little better. He was far from perfect in his posture, quite often resorting to a stooped appearance whenever he needed a rest. So with a 'victory' against the labs under his belt and some kind of renewed purpose, Oz had began to frequent the construction site.

But at peculiar hours.

Working from sun-down until he collapsed from fatigue, Oz would do little odds and ends across the whole site, just working with what seemed obvious to do. Without specific instruction, he couldn't risk ruining something or endangering someone.

So for a few nights, his duties were doubled - he worked on securing and placing the top frame of the stage understructure, and then spent at least an hour in quite reflection in a somewhat dignified pose as he 'protected' the construction site.

Before morning, he was always gone and sleeping soundly in his bed, thinking of his methods to cause as much harrassment to the labs as possible.

[NEW RP]

A few nights of working by moonlight was taking its toll on the laze-about Brit. Oz was no stranger to hard work, even if it had been a while since his body was put through its paces, but he was certainly a stranger to waking up early or staying up late. Despite his best intentions to make up for the accident he caused by being a good guard...he'd fallen asleep at his post.

After only a few minor physical jobs during the night, like moving anything heavy to a more convenient place or setting equipment out for others to use, Oz had assumed his sentry-like position, perched on the renewed pile of planks, wood and other ephemira. It was here that he fell asleep in a curled up position.

Sucking his thumb.

It was just before dawn, and Nita was awake. Comet had been fed and let out to do her business (having, of course, prodded Nita to waking and then promptly gone back to sleep). But Nita was restless; something in her was fond of the hours before sunrise.

She left her duplex alone, wearing a light jacket over her cuffed up scrubs. Perhaps she would keep an eye out for Gaius at the construction site. She had heard construction going on during all hours, so presumably the workers had acquired supplies again.

However, the site was quiet as she approached, her bare feet hardly breaking the silence. "Hello?" Nita called softly. Her keen eyes found a large lump on the wood-pile. She padded over for a better look. The lump was clearly alive, and probably an islander, although not someone she immediately recognized. Which was probably a good thing, since the person in question was sucking his thumb. Nita hid a smile and coughed quietly. "Ah, hello?"

Oz's brow wrinkled slightly, which must have looked very odd considering how thick it was, and he stretched out an arm to feel for something. His elongate hand fumbled about across the wood-pile, then the dirt as he thought his alarm clock was going off.

"Mmmmrrr.r..r...humph...five more minutes..." he mumbled past his thumb, eyes blinking open briefly.

But as he rolled about on his odd 'bed', some of the wood beneath him shifted greatly and Oz awoke with a start.

Nita backed away from Oz's reaching hand, whiskers twitching in amusement. "But I don't have a watch," she protested, although she doubted the guy was lucid enough to understand just yet.

She squeaked and hopped backwards when the woodpile shifted precariously, threatening to dump the gorilla-man. "Woah, there, you okay?" Nita asked. She stood on tip-toe with her tail sticking out behind her for balance.
