At the lot, Greasers and Socs alike were gathered. They glared at each other angrily, but they had been ordered strictly by their leadersthat this was nonviolent.

There was a huge Bonfire in the middle of them all and they surrounded it.

Darry and a Soc who went by Freddy walked into a large empty space, and all eyes were on them. They began a speech.
"Last night, there was a rumble." Darry began.
"And last night, there was a tragedy."
"Some punk, not in the rumble, brought a gun."
"We've suffered loss recently, we all remember Bob."
"And Johnny, and Dally."
"We want the tragedies to stop!"
"We want the end of the violence."
"What we"
"Want is"
"Peace!"
"Peace!"
They ended in unison. Then they shook hands with each other, and waited for the reaction of the others.

At first all that could be heard was the cakcle of the fire then someone solo began t clap then others it grew into a loud applause.

Rudy stood happily in the midst of the applause. There were, of course, a couple of people walking a way scowling, who refused to abandon their prejudice, but for the most part, all were rejoicing.

Amongst the crowd, Rudy saw Mark. He was neither Grease nor Soc, but he partied anyway, Rudy couldn't help but laugh.

On his way, a red mustang pulled up next to him. Three Socs quickly jumped out, a look of pure hatred on his face. Two held him, one punched. Hard. He was hurting, when a group of people came and threw his attackers off, the fought until the attackers drove off in their mustang.
"Tha-" Rudy stopped, the people who had rescued him were not greasers, but socs.
"Thank you." He said gratefully.
"No problem. I guess prejudice runs too deep in some. You want a ride home?"
"Yes, thank you."
