Makina Vlermor Okay so I had stomach surgery yesterday morning which was VERY scary since i'm fairly along but this JERK in the waiting room had the nerve to tell me that I was a selfish b***h for getting "cosmetic" surgery while pregnant. Does having a ball of clotted blood that's lodged into your stomach wall and eating through your stomach sound like something that you'd fix with cosmetic surgery?! NO. It was painful and luckily I was released this morning but still it just IRKS MY MIND that a stupid prat would say that. Wow, that guy was certainly an asshat. Isn't it so great when people make brash assumptions about you?

It was painful and luckily I was released this morning but still it just IRKS MY MIND that a stupid prat would say that. People were constantly berating me for things I did while pregnant. Including things done before I even figured out I was pregnant. I have highly irregular periods, so it took me two months to figure out anything was wrong...I just thought my period was being stupid again. During this time, I smoked heavily, played DDR nonstop, ate absolutely nothing that was good for me, etc. etc. Once I found out I was pregnant, I stopped most of those things (took a while to quit smoking, which I highly regret). And while none of those were deadly like your situation, people were constantly saying, "You shouldn't have done (insert thing previously done here). You're pregnant!" I wanted to shout loud curse words at them and scream, "I wouldn't have done it, if I had known I'm pregnant!" ...people are so dumb...

Prompted by AKILLA's thread I actually went and had a look at ED for the first time in ages..... and I was really horrified. Not angry or disgusted, just horrified. I mean, if you scroll down the list of topics, and have a look at some posts, it's just this disorganized rabble all scrabbling to be the most controversial, the most provocative, the most different, to have the biggest vocabulary.... and then I thought- these people are in their teens for the most part. They are the next generation to vote, to have an influence on their societies. And here they are, frightening in their apathy and their complete disregard for others. I just don't understand how it became so bloody fashionable to be an a*****e. I sincerely hope that this is all an act, that they aren't really like that in their real lives- even so, if it's an act, it's scary how authentic it comes across. What do you guys think- is it just a desperate bid to be noticed, no matter what they have to say to do so? I just can't get over the fact that they are kids- where do they get this stuff from?

Mara, I think eventually they, teenagers, get over it.
I mean seriously. I don't mean to stereotype all of them, we have a quite a few intelligent teens among us. HOWEVER, I was an intelligent teen. I thought I freaking knew everything.
The story I like to tell is when I was 16 the tattoo I had all planned out was REDICULOUS the mere TWO years between 16 and 18 I grew up THIS much. Not to mention how grown up I am now that I'm 22.
and like I said, I was a smart teen, one with plans to go to college, with lots of common sense, but all in all it was common sense FOR A TEEN. There is simply a biological lack of certain complex emotional processes at 13, 14, 15. I mean when I left Washington my brother was 15, and now, he's like a freaking adult, it amazes me the level of thought and emotional understanding he's now capeable of. It's freaky really.
And, I also think that every other regular topic under the sun has been discussed in ED that now they're just making s**t up.

:All of my next comments exclude the few intelligent teen Gaians:
Me, I think it's all for the attention. These kids are trying to become popular here, 'cause they probably aren't that popular IRL. I think it's all just some big, sad cry for attention. I mean, sure, some of them may have some kind of valid point to make, but that VAST majority of these ED "regulars" and so forth are just glorified, pseudo-intellect, attention whores. There, I said it and that's what I believe.
I mean, why else would you spout off about things you know nothing of? Because you want to draw attention to yourself. I mean, I don't care what most these kids think, they have NO life experience. At all. they still live off mommy and daddy. They have no clue what paying bills is, or rent, or even their own car notes. It saddens me AND pisses me off.
But what irks me the MOST is when some 14 or 15 year old calls me "dear/hun/sweetie" in some pathetic attempt to make themselves seem more "mature" than me. When really, they're just pompous little arrogant twits. Most of these kids act COMPLETELY spoiled, TOTALLY media-fed, and TERRIBLY apethitic. Ya know what kiddies, grow up, have some ACTUAL life experience, and then (and ONLY then) will I listen to you.
Does that make me elitest to have suc an attitude? Maybe, but I just perfer to be debating something with someone who is at LEAST on the same level as I am maturity-wise and life experience-wise.
I SERIOUSLY hate to see some 12 year old think they have the answer to all the world's problems and then sass-lip whoever doesn't happen to agree with them. These kids need to learn some humility and respect.
However, as with most surly teens, this is usually a passing phase. Hell, I look back at some of my own teenaged beliefs and actions and wanna just slap myself for ever being that a**-tastic. I'm sure a great many of these kids will feel the same way as well in the future. Growing up can change someone a LOT. And I know this. From the ages of 15-18, I made so many changes it ain't even funny. So I guess there is hope yet, but only time will tell whether this is all just some big, sad trendy phase or not. In any event, I'll be DAMN sure to vote in every election I can to help counter act against some of the possible stupidity these up-and-coming voters may attempt to inflict upon us all. 3nodding

*shrugs* I have to say it,
Teens who wish to be popular. DONT know what popular is. Growing I had a very large group of close friends, and with in that group there was a huge bunch of aquaintances. Infact, it was quite a bit larger then the "Popular" group. And yanno, I didnt understand what it was. We were popular, we were very popular.
But not knowing what popular was I didnt see it that way. A lot of these kids, think "Im a nerd, all my friends are nerds" we arnt popular. When infact they are. The student body has in each year maybe 1% of the class considered "popular" where the rest get along fine.
And here is the difference. Online, they can have all the confidence they want. They cant see the faces being made at their posts, they can read the comments, but its like reading a book, it brushes off, they dont have to see it day after day, they can leave the topic move on, and be a compleatly different person the next day, so long as no one reads their past comments.
Thats the only difference, and these people band together, online, and go we are more popular we are better, we are going to lash out at you in the hopes that you feel bad, because we see it makes our bullies feel better, and we want to feel better like them. We want the protection their group has because they are popular. NOT We want the protection their confidence provides, so we are going to stand together, we are going to see the others they bully and stand up for them. We arnt going to sit down to this. We will be popular, and we will do it right.
*breathes* okay so in the short, from my point of view, its not that they are puffed up and acting out here to be popular, its to prove to themselves in some little insignificant way, that they have the confidence to stand upto these people somewhere inside them.
So as I said at the top of this, its about about being popular, because there really is no concept of popular when your young. Its about confidence and who has the most. And your only popular in their eyes with it. But from an "aged" or "wiser" perspective, popularity, is only in how you see yourself, and the support your friends provide, and being satisfied with it being all you need.
