mipcy Hey, that works. I can't wait until next semester, in which I get to lose two out of the four seniors, plus I get...three more instruments to play.... Swim team starts on monday and I have yet to get a physical. crap. 3 more instruments?? dang. What do you play? I used to take swimming lessons, but then i 'graduated' from them and didn't join the swim/dive team.

Wow. I haven't been on in forever. We had our concert, and we didn't do that bad. 'Cept on our second song, our last note was a high B-natural and I played it B-flat. Then the other second flute played A-flat instead of A-natural. But otherwise we were good.
Hmm, our symphonic band is made of mostly freshman a few sophomores, maybe a junior, and three seniors (two of them dropped to symphonic 'cause they were pissed at May.) Wind is made of two freshman and a lot of others. There's about 20 of us, but we still have a tuba, two obi, two french horns, a bassoon, and a bari sax. Yay!!
Speaking of tuba-girl, today we dressed up for Halloween, and tuba-girl seems to find herself hot as a guy, so she drew some facial hair, and was a man. The scary part was, she looked like Legalos in Lord of the Rings (if you didn't want to meet him in a dark alley).

RinoaHeartilly Yay!!!! I've always preferred the Tenors over Altos xd I'd make another comment on that, except I have a few friends of mine I know IRL that are a part of this guild, and I don't exactly want them to know what I was about to say. xd You learned how to play Tenor in a year? Dang. Are you good at it?? xd You can't really make them switch over to other instruments though, can you? O.o I'm pretty good at it. A lot of the fingerings are like flute, so that makes it easier. I'm a billion times better at flute though, 'cause most of what I learned on tenor was self-taught (I didn't start playing it at school until this September, and I got it in October of 2003). No, I can't make them switch, but I SO wish I could. x_x;; Like I said, it would save my sanity. I was practically begging to play pep band music so I could play my sax and get out of the flute section 'cause I was so frustrated with most of them. We ended up doing pep AND concert... it's quite funny to watch me run back and forth between sections. XDD The thing is, I wouldn't be as mad if it weren't HONORS band class. But it IS an honors class, and it just bugs me that they don't even know simple stuff. Maybe I'm just too picky.... ^^;;

IF it's an honors band how the hell did they make it in there in the first place if they don't even know the fingerings for their instrument?? I mean, come on! do they just let anyone who asks into ur honors band? You taught urself how to play Tenor? wow. you got skillz. I hate trying to play reed instruments. xd i can get some notes out, and then i can even play some short songs, like mary had a little lamb whee and then the next day its like the thing wont even work for me.

Well, my friend's a wannabe flute player (and he's aguy, he steals my flute all the time and he can actually make sound on it) So that's it for male floutists.
Band is an honors class for us too.
And we have a Symphonic (made up of the Freshman, a few Sophomores, a few Juniors and a few Seniors) and the Wind Ensemble which is everyone else.
We have nicknames for them both, the Suckphonics and the Almighty Wind Ensemble. Also (even though Maria constantly has to say that this is incorrect) the JV and Varisty Bands.
But that's for concert season. We have one more game left... unless we make playoffs, which is rather doubtful. But the last game is our big rivalry game, so it's all good.

I can quite certainly say that I haven't. What kind of competition are we talking about?
Awe, I got to start practicing a lot more because it's my senior piccolo friend's senior year wish that I kick first chair's butt in a chair test. That means I have to get better.
On another note, I'm weirdly obssessed. Uh, we played "Barber of Seville" at our concert, and May kept on talking about how it reminded him of the Bugs Bunny skit, so I went out and downloaded it, and I'm listening to it now, odd. I'm also having odd conflicts with oboes. One of them decided to play dog pile on us, and another wanted to slap me last night because I was really perky. I was dressed like a six-year-old, how can I not be perky?

Yeah, that's basically what happens. Honors band is so small that our BD basically lets anyone into it (like I said, we've got about 27 people). The only exception is freshman - she rarely lets freshman join it (there's only two this year, a percussionist and an alto sax, both of which we kinda needed). Other than that, just about anyone can join. And then she complains when we suck. Gah. I love my BD, but sometimes she makes me wonder.... But yes, I taught myself tenor. 3nodding I was so glad I listened in fifth grade when they taught how to put reeds on.... XD

RinoaHeartilly Your band sounds a bit like mine! whee We all pretty much know our music as well, and our drumline memorizes all their music. The piccs have to memorize their music as well, we don't get to use the special flip folders u can put on ur arms ><;;; Though we're required to have the flip folders, we don't use them out on the field. Every band that we've seen so far using them though has had a SERIOUS case of flute droop. xd Ick, I hated having a flutist friend. That thing was so uncomfortable. I memorized my stands music in high school (even though I didn't have to) just to avoid using one.... RinoaHeartilly Our marching season is almost over as well. Today would have been the last game for us, BUT WHITMER WON!!!! xd YAY!!!!!!!!!! We're goin' to the playoffs! Screw St. John and their 9-1 record. (which is now 9-2 btw 3nodding ) Even the newspaper was against us. They predicted that St. John would win, but they were wrong xp Yeah, we won our game too. I don't know what happens now though... We only lost one game, but so did another team in our conference and theres another team whos undefeated. I know we don't have practice on monday, lol.

We were at a marching band competition, and we ate breakfast at about 8 in the morning, went to a competition, and then ate at about 4 in the afternoom. We then proceeded to continue to the second competition of the day. Now, you must remember that we were prepared for cold weather, and most of us were wearing long pants (not me, for once!) and multiple shirts (I'm guilty of that one). It was quite a bit warmer than we expected, we didn't get a chance to get water before we went on, and during warm-ups, one of our baritones dropped. Then, after we performed, one minute, I was standing there, the next minute, I was sprawled on the ground, with one of our parents there. Then the rest of the band moved into the stands, and one of the pit members went down. She did the same thing I did. Then, a few minutes later, her sister went down.
They think that we were too hot, dehydrated, and had had too big of a meal too soon before we performed. Luckily, everyone's okay now, and the football/swimteam coach gets to deal with two of us now. And we're just about through with marching band. We have one more football game to make an appearance at, and the playoffs, then parades. Oh, joy. Luckily, concert band is our main objective now.

Well, I think we could be on our way to having the flute problem resolved. ^^ I was talking to another one of the flute players in my class this morning, and apparently she was having the same frustrations I was. So we decided to go to our BD and talk to her about it, and what we're going to do (probably) is start having mandatory sectionals Wednesday mornings that the other girl and I will lead. Kind of drastic (or so it will seem to them), but when half of a ten-person flute section isn't pulling their weight... it's a problem. They're going to have to deal with it.

The picc.s are one of the few sections in our band that only had like three sectionals this year. One of them was just because we had a general woodwind sectional and another one was because we wanted to go over the dance routine so we could get best dancing section. smile Anyways, I think its because there are only two freshmen in our section and both of us actually do work, lol.

Tala Kaze Well, my friend's a wannabe flute player (and he's aguy, he steals my flute all the time and he can actually make sound on it) So that's it for male floutists. I know some people who like to steal my picc. all the time. It annoys everyone else when they try to play, but it doesn't bother me. Lol, one of them is this really big tuba player - thats fun to watch. ^_^ Tala Kaze But that's for concert season. We have one more game left... unless we make playoffs, which is rather doubtful. But the last game is our big rivalry game, so it's all good. Yeah, we just found out that we made the playoffs and we're playing Albany St. in Albany. A good trip... since we're in NC. smile

I think that we may finally be about to resolve our flute problem with playing tests, but I think that all of the frustration would dissappear if I were to simply play picc and oboe with our single, lonley oboe....she needs help, but is getting better.

I play flute, and this is my fourth year of it. I really enjoy it but I dont really like the other flutes, most of them are really snotty, one outright told me that I shouldn't play the flute cause I'm a guy. I only really get along with two of the other flutes, and one of them is the other male flutist. We also have this annoying trombone player and nobody likes him. Last years band teacher through a chalkboard eraser at him sweatdrop
