He dropped and grabbed her, watching the vein move and pressing his hand down on the light. The vines? "Stop! Stop this please. You're going to kill her. Here. Just look here or with me just be careful."
He sat Kim up and set the sash in Kim's hands. "It's a better artifact. Not a trinket like you have. It's very useful."

Well this was interesting, she could feel things moving inside her. Strangely she wasn't at all worried. It was kind of par for the course with her life.
She was confused as to why Melvin was so worked up. Then again she didn't see what was going on from his point of view.
The good thing was she was hardly beat up from the fight. She just let it all happen, relaxed. Fighting this s**t would probably make it worse.

The lobster thing took considerable group effort but in the end was defeated. He didn't get a chance to use his charge but very probably that was a good thing, his shield had taken a sound thrashing after all and he could end up hurt, that or someone else could end up hurt.
When the swimming commenced s**t was hard and he didn't know if it was because of his ******** up shield or something else entirely but the s**t that assaulted them while they swam was difficult to overcome and it took everything he had just to make it the last few meters to the shore, pulling himself out of the water.
Out of the water though he was almost immobilised with sadness. For Rep there was a lot of in his life he could easily fixate to be sad about and he did so, unable to help himself, sick with the intensity of it all.
There were people gathered not far away and he made his way over, though didn't talk to anyone, the grief still dogging his every step.

Pale, trembling hands took the sash and lifted it up for inspection. "This is lonelier," she commented. "There is a family in mine. I love them." Sulking, Kim admitted, "They want to go home. They want to leave me." At Melvin's feet, the ground began to shift until a small obelisk was forced from the ground. "Maybe I don't love them." Kim's breathing and heartbeat stopped, but her body stayed standing. "I can bring her back," the body shrugged. "I protect you. You should all be mine and live me back. You should give me birthdays. This isn’t...this..." Its face, streaked in blood, scrunched in thought. "This isn't a charity." And Kim's body collapsed. Standing a few feet away, Kim could see her own body go limp. steal Kim is dead for the next week. She is a ghost and can watch and hear what goes on, but cannot interact.

Kim looked at her own body, and would have screamed horrified but.. she wasn't in it! She looked around at everyone, silently screaming in terror. What the hell? Tree why?
She drifted to the tree, giving it a soft bodiless touch. *sorry..* She didn't want it to feel bad either. But.. gah she was dead! *mental flailing commence*

Seren watched her friend fall and gave a low scream. "Kim! Kim nooooooooooo! KIM!" She stumbled farther forwards, and collapsed to her knees next to the body of her friend, her blue eyes huge. She pulled the body close, and began to cry, her shoulders shaking. "Kim!" She'd never seen anyone die before. She'd never lost anyone to death.
She didn't know how to cope with THIS.

The girl who'd stolen the thing from Atlantis went down while he watched, falling limp to the ground, catching the last strange statements from her, unable to tell right then and there if it was just the way she talked or something more dangerous and profound.
Another person was wailing and he winced at the sound of it, turning away. It wasn't really his place.
He looked up at the tree instead.

Melvin stared as Kim spoke, as the Tree spoke, as a Legacy spoke, before Kim went still. She didn't move. She did't speak. He waited. He waited for her to come to or to reanimate to speak again. When the Tree seemed done, he waited.
And then he gently shook her.
And then he watched that her chest did not move.
And then he slowly brought a hand to her still warm body, pressing fingers against her neck.
And then he leaned to put his ear above her mouth, the tip still wet with foam.
And then he stared at her, and gave her another gentle shake.
"Kim?"
This isn't a charity.
He heard the loud cry out of Kim's name, and watched as Seren came to grab the limp..
...to grab the dead girl from his hands.
He let her, and sat there, staring, before his eyes went to the artifact that was returned. The reason they came here. The reason he brought Kim. His hands went out and slowly took it into his hands and he sat there, turning it over into his hands, and looked up at the girl, and the people around, and the tree, and got up slowly to walk away to the shore.

The bad thing about being dead, and being aware of it, was that you can not comfort those you leave behind. She saw how Seren and Melvin were taking it. Seren breaking and Melvin going all distant and she wished she could say something to them about not feeling bad. This was her job too, she knew there were risks.
She would have asked Seren to look after Terry and make sure he didn't get too upset. None of it was any good. Kim could only watch them all, and she tried to hug her friend, but.. well hell, no touch. The usually energetic girl finally huffed a bit and sat down by her body. "At least the Artifact is there, good luck Melvin."

Al arrived on the tail end of things and at least it was fairly simple putting two and two together. He watched as the limp body was removed from Melvin's possession and he wandered back towards the shoreline where Al had been waiting. Al reached out for Melvin to place a hand on his shoulder. "Melvin?" He honestly didn't know what to say to him. He was obviously not okay and there was no point in asking if he was. "Heading back?"

"Want to talk?" Al watched him uncertainly. He looked like a a man who was about to possibly lose it and nobody wanted that. One loss was enough and Melvin had many in his lifetime.

Al looked at the artifact in Melvin's hands. He wasn't leaving, and he didn't wish to discuss what had just transpired. Perhaps a distraction. "Is that the thing the water creatures are after?"
