"I picked Naiads, because duh." Xe gestured to xemself. "I grew up in Above when I was a kid, so I'm still way more familiar with how Naiad courtship works than with how other people's courtships work. Naiad courtship begins by giving your beloved a pearl. They can't see you give it, though--you have to wait until their back is turned or they're not paying attention. If they guess you gave it to them..." Xe shrugged. "That means it was meant to be. You sing to your beloved, you bedeck yourself with beautiful jewelry...y'know, typical courtship stuff. Love's a really serious thing with us Naiads, you don't just go around giving pearls willy-nilly to every bozo you meet. You only give them to people you really, truly love. If you give it to someone you only have a passing interest in, you'll break their hearts. They might even cut their hair." Zuna shook xeir head. "I know a lot of races won't understand why that's important, but trust me. It is. Being the one who forced someone to cut their hair is a dic--a jerk move."

Ewwww.. Social Studies was not a class that Thalia liked. It always felt drab and even though they learned about interesting things from the past sometimes, it still felt boring to her. With a sigh and lips pursing as she laid her cheek on her propped up fist, the little hybrid lazily skimmed her book for someone of possible interest for the assignment.
After what felt like forever, she came across a name of someone from the Above who seemed pretty neat. Thalia began to scribble on her paper. "I picked Lady Fidellia. If it weren't for her, I wouldn't be in existence..." which was a word the poor thing struggled to spell out. "Lady Fidellia is the one who made trading and even opening up the schools and life in general between the Above and Below."

"Well," Kalani said, thinking, "there's the Kings and Queens of the Naiad. We have a Queen right now though. Uuum, I don't remember who it was exactly, but I remember that a long time ago there was supposed to have been this really big war going on. Our King or Queen realized it and took all the Naiads down to the deepest waters where the other races couldn't find us, so that way we could stay out of the war. They made sure to protect us, so that we could all be safe. All our Kings and Queens actually protect us, and are all pretty important!" He swished wiggled his tail a bit, wishing he could remember any notable names. Sadly those hadn't really been brought up when his parents taught him these things...

Alyssum gathered her thoughts before speaking. "I know Bakeneko courtship practices pretty well. My parents were a little old-fashioned. Umm, well we used to do arranged marriages pretty often. Not as much now, but it's coming back into style again. Choices would be made based on appearance first, and then on personality traits." She tilted her head a little. "I know three-color calicos and solid blacks or whites were the most popular, and still are with the higher classes. Uumm, there's usually a lot of touching when Bakeneko court. Hand-holding and nuzzling. There's also a lot of gift exchanges, mostly with lower classes, and they also try to make sure that they'll be able to get along with their intended's family, so they spend a lot of time with them as well. That's usually pretty important, cause Bakeneko like to have big families and you don't want to have a lot of fighting going on."

Rowan sighed, feeling a little bored. Of course the topic would be courting. It was one they had little interest in. "I know how Nixie's court. We actually keep to most of our practices and they haven't changed much. When someone is interested they tend to do gill wiggling." They wiggled their own gills as an example. "It usually a lot more complex than that, but I think you'd have to be used to Nixie's to spot the difference. If the person you're courting responds to your attention, it's up to the person who initiated the courting to find a peal or shell to give as a gift to prove that they're serious. Pearls are the most popular." Rowan hummed thoughtfully. "I think Grimm actually have similar rituals cause their territories are close to ours. No gills to wiggle and they do a couple different kinds of gifts, but still similar."

Freddy actually laughed. "I know how Geists traditionally do courtship, cause it comes up a lot as a subject of controversy. We value being sneaking and clever, so when someone's interested in someone they usually steal from them. It's more complicated than it sounds. It's kind of like a display of skills. Like you steal something of theirs to show your talent and show off what you stole, and see if they steal it back or maybe steal something of yours instead. Sometimes you don't actually steal something, you leave something behind. Sometimes they'll get together and plan heists, to show off their skills and commitment when working together." Freddy shrugged. "Most of the other races don't really get it, but that's just what Geists do."

Jaden tucked his wings close. "I know Fallen don't really have any elaborate courtships rituals. They see gifts or showy displays as insecurity rather than declarations of love, so those are usually frowned upon. What they do instead is give feathers that they've shed, since it's more subtle and personal." He reached out and lightly stroked one of his wings. "Litches are kind of the same. Subtle, I mean. They don't really like grand displays. They also tend to take things kind of slow and get to know their prospective partner first. I guess since they tend to have really long life spans, it's important to make sure of your partner before you fully commit."

Choose a historical figure to write about? Hmmmm so many choices, it does not have to be my race so let's see who is interesting to me. Dayanara read each section some were interesting some were not but one in particular caught her attention. That's who I am writing about!
WIth that she picked up her pencil and began to write.
Reading over all the information, each historical figure deserves to be chosen for different reasons. All of them did something so astounding each should be commended for their actions. After thinking about it for a while I went with one of the figures from my race, the Fallen.
I chose Saint Cassiel who wrote the history of the Fallen. He wrote a scholarly book or a "tome" that gave information in regards to Winged Isle and how it came to be as well evidence of how his race came to be.
The Fallen worship the Nine but also the Saint's although they are below the Nine in importance. Saint Cassiel is the most common Saint that is given tributes paid. He was considered Far Traveler and Keeper of Records and his life must have been exemplary for him to become a Saint. His deeds must have been great as well as his own personal sacrifices.

Pyre was very much a child of the now, but he could humor the assignment. He had paid attention in class most closely to the Fallen idols, so it made most sense to talk about one of them. He combed his long locks as he waited for his turn.
"I picked Saint Cassiel," Pyre informed, wings pulling tight to his back. "Cassiel wrote a lot of old stuff about the Fallen so we all know about it today, and a bunch of Fallen stuff is named after them too." He tilted his head, ear tufts wiggling as if the answer was obvious. "I chose them because I'm a Fallen like my Mom, Dad, and Brother."

Bliss wasn't big on history because it was very hard for him to grasp being so young, but he did know of some important people. Did Historical mean they had to be dead? Bliss wasn't sure but there wasn't a lot of time to ask before it was his turn.
"I picked the Naiad Queen," he informed with a soft smile, always more focused on the facts of his race than anything. He didn't know many other Naiad other than his brother so he liked to absorb information about Above when he could. "There's been lots of them, but they're all related." He hummed a little, trying to recall what else he knew. "The Naiad let them stay in their home because they helped us in the big war, so they're really important."

Blossom was often nervous when talking in front of the other students. This assignment was pretty hard on him, because he didn't know who he wanted to research. It was tough trying to find someone that he liked, in the end he settled on something unique. He thought anyway.
"I decided to talk about Lady Fidellia, because she's one of the main reasons that the portals were opened after the war." The reintroduction of Nightmare and Daydream passing between the two worlds was more recent history, but he was hoping it would do all the same. "Lady Fidellia negotiated with the Demons to establish the portals between their worlds again. This allowed many Daydreams to settle in below! Without the treaty my parents would never have met. I believe it was beneficial to both sides as it also reopened trade between the world. Daydreams and Nighhtmares had a lot of goods that benefited both sides." He hoped that was good enough for him to get a passing grade on the assignment.

It had been hard for Odell to settle on who to talk about in his history class. There were so many historical figures, so he tried to narrow it down by picking an event. In the end he choose an event that helped to turn the tide in the long 50 year war. A war that had occurred while his race and the Naga lived peacefully in their Sand Storm.
"I decided to talk about Saint Fanyuel. They are one of six Saint that the Fallen of Below pay tribute to. At the same time, they are the only Saint that is actually a Fallen from Above. I decided to write about them because they are a very key figure in the 50 Year war." He knew that the Saint had very little to do with him personally, but they were a big part of history that the Naga and Bakebeko missed out on during their time trapped alone.
"Saint Fanyuel helped Saint Lionel in his time as a spy in Above during the War. Both would be executed for their crimes. Saint Fanyuel was able to warn the Fallen of Below about an attack on their City and is possibly the only reason the Fallen of Below survived the War. They played a key role in keeping a whole Race safe. Through their sacrifice we could learn that none of us were all that different from each other." His story was a little sad, because his heroes ended up dying. But it was still important to know about them and learn from them.

Erion had absolutely no idea who he wanted to talk about in class. History wasn't really a big thing for him and he had to admitted, sometimes he felt more like sleeping in the class than paying any attention at all. He had to come up with something though, so he diligently worked his way through some text books.
"Today I'm talk about Rex Ilyrria of Alcyone. The Baphoment had been united for hundreds of years up to to this particular point in history. Rex Ilyrria signs the Treaty of the Crown with the Geist Princes so that they can have access to many of their mines for a monthly tax. This angered a lot of Baphomets at the time and caused 'The Shattering'. Many tribes split from away from their one ruler and became their own territories. This caused a lot of unrest in Baphoment rulings at the time. It split them in a time when they needed to be together. Ilyrria might have been trying to forgive the Geists for what had been done to them in the past, but many others were not ready for this yet. It caused unrest. I choose to talk about Rex Ilyrria because he was trying to do what was best for his people. Trying to move on. And even though they weren't ready at the time, I like to think we're better at understanding each other now." Erion nodded and smiled as he spoke. He thought his history lesson had a good ending.

When Brailyn first read over her assignment she instantly knew who she had to write about. Their was one Kumiho that had recently changed her whole world. You could honestly say he had changed the whole world!
"Today I'm talking about Tomoe! Because, without him we'd still be hiding right now! There is a lot of controversy over what happened that day. Some Kumiho didn't like what Tomoe had done, while others would thank him today for the opportunity to rejoin the world. Kumiho spent a very, very long time hidden away from the world. So long, many thought we were just a fairy tale. In my opinion Tomoe is a very brave individual that deserves praise form us all." He would go down in history as the turning point in their lives. Kumiho were dying out in their Forest. He had given them a chance to live again and experience the world around them.

He always hated picking historical figures or towns, because he felt conflicted on what side of him he wanted to represent. He always made sure there was at least some personal connection with himself in some way because Huginn just found it easier to write that way. One would assume that he would pick geist since there weren’t too many fallen traits on him other than his tendril less arms and wings. "I decided to pick Saint Cassiel. He was one of the fallen’s first saints and he documented their history and how the fallen founded the wing isle. I picked him as the saint because My uncle is a Grimm, and growing up it always bothered him about the lack of information there was out there about his people. It also helps that my mom is studying to be an anthropologist so in my household history is very important. Without history, I think you are lost as a race. So I appreciate his attempts to find our origins and give us at least a starting point.” Huginn replied after debating and searching for a while.
