Jack, who had been eyes forward and enwrapped in the mist and small talk peppering it, finally glanced her way with an amused look. "What's the good s**t?" he asked. "Secret graveyard treasure? I mean, moat, castle, dragon..."

"Treasure," she confirmed, drunken-in-love step making her knock into his side. "Or a ghost. Or both!"
It was a jungle of gravestones, most centuries old and unkempt. It wasn't the kind of place people still brought their dead and cared for, just a collection of forgotten skeletons. Chel was only thankful that the mist accentuated the area so well that she didn't have to provide her own intrigue.
"Remember that time in Halloween?" she asked him, moving in a direction at random towards a set she thought he'd want to look at. The arm came off her shoulder, but the hand was still grasped in hers.

"Treasure haunt," he said with a scoff. "What a shitty afterlife."
He was careful in following after her, not just because of the mist but because the ground was still slick and muddy after yesterday's downpour. But the ambiance was all but perfect nonetheless, with the temperature cool without being cold and the silence between their short exchanges a soft sort. The mist seemed to insulate them from everything beyond their range of vision, the tombstones appearing very much like ghosts themselves.
He stopped them at a random one and squatted to get a better look at it. "You mean when we made out against one of these?" he asked, grinning to himself as he tried to decipher the worn engraving. "Hard to forget."

Chel made a grin that said oh right, THAT time. "I meant the other stuff too. 'Member those lust demons?" That was the part that was hard to forget for Chel.
"S'been a while since then. Shun doesn't even know." Between bracelet and busy months, there hadn't been any time. "Sucks- I used t'be able to just go in golems or haunted house it whenever." Now ... now there were quite a few more walls.

"Yeah." It was exhaled, and there was more meaning to it than just agreeing and remembering. The dorm, the school, Halloween...It really did seem to be a different place when he wasn't there for minipet studies. Or maybe that was just Chel's influence at work again.
"Doesn't have to be all on you," he said with a glance. "I have better excuses to go over. Could see if I catch them while I'm there, see how they're doing."

"That's be rad- you could-" Her voice trailed off for a moment. What you do affects me.
She put a hand on his shoulder and tapped shortly. "Maybe ... Maybe we should lay low for a while longer."

This was an ironic reversal. "You sure?" Jack asked. "I haven't touched base since the green legacy event. S'been a while like you said."

"Stuff I do makes you look bad too," she told him. Just because he hadn't gone and mouthed off to Caelius, he had cared for and supported her after. Even more outlandish: he'd married her.
"It's alright. I'll see him the next time things go south," she added with a half-hearted smile. She was beginning to realize she'd only ever be able to be friends in times of turmoil. "Maybe not at all." The less she saw, the less Caelius knew, the less danger-

"Hey." He squeezed her hand. Not alone. "I can do it if it means you don't get heat for it. Dr. H is more lenient. And I actually don't mind Estel."

"Maybe we should bring Estel t'the threesome then," she said weakly, clearly dodging the proposition.

He snorted quietly but thumbed the side of her hand. "We'll figure something out," he said, letting off but remaining insistent nonetheless. "They deserve to hear us brag."
Jack got to his feet with a pop of his joints and led her through another few minutes of aimless wandering. "What country is this anyway?" he asked very belatedly. "I'm getting, mm...a Scottish feeling?"

Now it was Chel's turn to snort. "Don't think braggin' would do much- he don't strike me as a lovey type. You know he got married at a courthouse?" And there was perhaps a bit of envy in her voice. Quick and dirty was her preferred method.
"Somewhere in Europe," she answered with a shrug. She didn't pay much attention to the placement.
More quietly as a secret between the two she admitted. "It was kinda like this with Merlin. Just a blink and I'd be in ******** castle town. Less sex, more silence though."

"That doesn't surprise me." (Mental notes: do all Halloween denizens follow common procedures analogous to the culture that spawned them? What specific rituals are out there? Was there a stigma about marriage between different species? What about...) "But you're telling me you wouldn't want either of the ghouls fawning over you?" And it had to be Chel specifically, of course. "Or vice versa," he added knowingly. Maybe not on Edel, but she did have a thing about young cute girls like Estel.
Of all the things to come up on their honeymoon, he wouldn't have expected Merlin as a topic. Jack brushed his free hand along an ancient cross, its design elegant despite the rust.
"I remember asking you about that," he said after a moment. "You mentioned a waterfall, I think. China too." Another pause. "You want me to hum?"

"Lady's choice." He knew she wasn't blurring lines, but he still wanted this to be separate from her past visions to have evidence that she wasn't alone.
