Darren nodded in agreement as Gavyn suggested that Lapis' flowers reminded him of bluebells. "Yes, they're quite lovely." Darren smiled proudly, though it wasn't like he had anything to do with her colors. Lapis squeaked a bit in surprise as Mari rushed over to hug her, but settled down shortly after, hesitantly returning the hug. After all, it felt quite nice, she just wasn't used to being greeted so.... Enthusiastically. The blue florges blushed a bit as her other complimented her flowers. "Th-thank you... I rather like yours as well." She mumbled sheepishly, not really minding walking hand in hand with her new friend. Darren chuckled as Merlin commented that they seemed to be getting along well. "Heh, yeah~ Lapis is shy, but I can tell she's already enjoying Marigold's company." Under Flynn's ushering, the group began making their way back to the pokemon center, though Gavyn paused momentarily when a strangely colored charmander clung to his leg. Darren turned to look as Gavyn commented, greeting it uncertainly and looked to his clefairy for some assistance, who reassured him that the charmander was harmless, and probably looking for food. "Heh, yeah. That looks like a food begging face if I ever saw one... Poor little guy, he must be lost and hungry." Darren frowned with concern.
They made their way into the cafeteria and Sable insisted she would catch up after she checked on Jin. "Yeah, no worries. Go ahead, we'll meet you later then." Darren nodded, splitting off with Gavyn and entering the cafeteria. There, Darren let out more of his pokemon for lunch; Flapjack, Pascal, Hercules, Duchess, and a few others, the smaller more manageable and mild mannered pokemon on his team. After they were all fed, he would deal with the more troublesome ones like Zephyr and Chili. Flynn had already eaten, so he stood back and let the others eat. However, he had taken notice of the charmander that had attached itself to Gavyn, and was now eating a slice of pie. With an annoyed grunt at himself, he gave in and made his way over to the small charmander. "Hey kid." Flynn grunted, taking a seat next to the fire type. "You got a name?" He asked curiously. "What's a little guy like you doing out here all alone, huh?" It was a bit unsettling, seeing his own kind in this state, he just felt compelled to figure out what was going on. Lapis on the other hand was happy to to share the apple that Marrigold offered, executing a quick razor leaf to cut the apple neatly into little slices for them to nibble on.
Eventually Sable and Jin made their way into the cafeteria and Darren gave a lazy wave to signal where he and Gavyn were sitting. However, Sable said something to Jin and left again, leaving Jin to take care of feeding her pokemon. Darren frowned a bit, curious and a little disappointed. "Where's Sable going?" He asked Jin, concerned. Was she feeling dizzy again and needed to go lay down? Were some of his dressings sipping off? Was she just tired? He didn't even realize that he was over reacting, but he couldn't really help it.

Although she had things to do and pokemon to check on, Sable stopped when she noticed that Gavyn paused."Hm?"Turning to look and see what the cause of the pause was, it wasn't very hard to see why Gavyn was staying still for a moment. A small bundle of white fluff with a rainbow fire on its tail had attached itself to the teen's leg."Looks like you have a knack for attracting cuties, Gavyn~"Sable commented cheerfully as she knelt down onto one knee. She made sure to take it somewhat slow, since she didn't want to startle the little charmander. Besides, there was the matter of the dizzy spells she had earlier."Heh, don't you look like an innocent little marshmallow~"Sable cooed as she smiled at the fluffy little charmander.
Mentioning marshmallows might not have been the wisest idea, though, as the small bundle of fluff reacted by making begging eyes up at Gavyn. It was decided that a meal was the next course of action for most of the group, although Sable still had a few things to take care of. First she went off to make sure her zorua and gekkit were alright, and then she made her way back to her room. Jin, meanwhile, took Sable's pokemon into the cafeteria and started getting things together so that he could feed them. The dark type foresaw several trips back and forth in his near future. During one of the times he was near the table, Darren asked why Sable wasn't with the group."Ah, she said that she left some clothes in the washer and wanted to at least get 'em in the dryer. If what I could see of those bandages are anything to go by, I'd guess she had more on her mind for a bit than keeping a close eye on the laundry,"the dark type replied before moving off to get more food for some of Sable's other pokemon. And then there was the fact that he still needed food for himself, of which he grabbed a corned beef sandwich, some clamperl chowder, and a bowl filled with pieces of various fruits and berries.
While Jin took care of the food situation, Sable took care of getting what was left of her clothing out of the washer and into the drier. It didn't take very long, and soon enough the drier was running and the teen was back out of the room. The walk from the lobby to the room and back was what took up most of her time, especially since it was uneventful. Eventually, though, the teen was back in the main room, so all it took was a turn out a different door and Sable was at the cafeteria. The teen gave a bit of a chuckle as she made her way over to where the others were sitting."Sorry about that. With everything else I had to take care of, I forgot my outfit was still in the washer,"she said cheerfully, although her laugh trailed off a bit afterwards."...Well, what's left of it, anyway. Heh..."She had liked that outfit, but now the only use those scraps would be was as rags.
Sable still sounded a bit unenthusiastic as she let out another chuckle."So, I guess after this it's my turn to face Misty, huh? Any advice or tips either of you wanna give?"she asked with a bit of hesitation in her voice as she dug around in her bag. Another thing she had forgotten was something she promised she'd start on, and since she had the pots, she figured she might as well take the opportunity to get at least a couple berries planted."I know you guys mentioned she uses water types, so I was figuring on seeing if Frizz could handle at least one of her pokemon. I guess I'll be winging it for the other one,"she commented as she planted one of the Lum berries she had in one pot and the Pecha berry she had in another.

The fluffy charmander was a bit shy at first, but gave a cute, friendly growl in response to the female that had cooed at him. Gavyn wasn't sure how to respond to Sable's comment about him attracting cuties, opting to sheepishly look off to the side. Sable then excused herself, and the remaining group got themselves and their pokemon some food. Gavyn would have let out more pokemon, but... well, most of his pokemon were a bit big and he didn't want to make too much of a crowd. He could more easily handle them outside. For now though, he sat down and ate his salads. Marigold sat beside Lapis, eating pieces of the freshly cut apple with her new florges friend. Merlin was eating some kind of sandwich.
The charmander was enjoying his slice of pie when a charmeleon sat beside him. He raised his blue eyes up to the older lizard. "Howdy! I'm Asriel!" the little charmander smiled, bits of pie all over his face. He continued to nibble at his pie as the other asked what he was doing out on his own. "I'm on an adventure! I... kinda got lost, though..." he finally replied, then frowned a bit. Now that he thought about it, his trainer was probably worried.
Gavyn finished eating by the time Sable returned. She then asked for advice for battling Misty. "U-um... well... I..." Gavyn started to say, embarrassed that he couldn't offer any advice. He hadn't even seen how the battle went. "Heh. Gavy couldn't stand the sight of all the swimmers, so he doesn't really have a lot of tips to share." Merlin responded. A bit embarrassed, Gavy drooped his head a bit after a nod. "S-sorry... But uh... if you happen to have any strong grass moves, those are useful, too..." he offered what little advice he could glean from his experience. He then noticed that Sable had what seemed to be small pots for planting. "M-may I ask where you got those..?" he asked. It would be nice to be taking care of some plants that weren't his pokemon. Admittedly, he did miss gardening in general.

And Cerulean, their final location. It felt like they'd been at this for way too long. It was dark by now, and Zak was thoroughly ready for a shower and some sleep. "Try not to take too long, da?" he drawled, getting off Sal and looking around. He glanced at Rufflet as the bird fluttered down to eye the surroundings from the ground. Hell, even he looked a little tired. On the plus side, there didn't seem to be really any agents, which meant he didn't have to worry about having his pokemon fight them off. Darren felt a little relieved when Jin explained that Sable had just gone back to take care of laundry. "O-oh! Yes... Yes of course... Haha, why didn't I think of that.....?" Darren simpered, feeling quite embarrassed and sinking a bit low into his seat, fidgeting with his jacket. He needed to relax and quit worrying so much. Darren heaved a sigh and straightened himself out. His pokemon were finishing up their lunches, so he began returning them and letting out the larger but still tame pokemon, like Jay, Iris, and Sapphire so that they could eat. Flynn chuckled a bit at the sight of Asriel's pie covered face. "Nice to meet you Asriel. I'm Flynn." He greeted, quirking a brow as the smaller charmander insisted he was on an adventure. "Oh? An adventure you say? Yeah, we're on an adventure too, so I think you found the right group. What kind of adventure are you going on?" He asked curiously, a soft smile growing on his muzzle. The little guy was kind of growing on him.
Eventually, Sable came back, apologizing for her disappearance and explaining herself. "Heh, yeah, that's what Jin said. Welcome back." Darren greeted. Sable still seemed a bit disparaged though as she mentioned rhetorically that it was her turn to face Misty, asking for advice or tips. She revealed that she planned on using Frizz, since she'd heard them mention that Misty was a water type user. Gavyn unfortunately couldn't get anything coherent together, since the mere thought of the gym seemed to be getting him all steamed up, and Merlyn explained that he couldn't stand the sight of all the half naked swimmers. Darren chuckled a bit at that, not really blaming the modest male. "Frizz would be a great choice actually Sable. She's your joltik right? Misty's pokemon are a staryu, and it's evolution starmie. Not only will the electric attacks of hers be effective, but also, starmie are part psychic type, so bug based attacks would be super effective on it as well." Darren pointed out, which seemed to give Gavyn enough time to calm down and offer the suggestion of using any strong grass moves. Darren nodded in agreement at the tip. "Mm. Grass works well too. Maybe you could throw Oaken in there if Frizz gets knocked out?" Darren suggested, recalling the brown colored servine of hers that he'd helped name.
Darren hadn't really been focusing on what Sable was doing, at least not until Gavyn pointed out the berry pots she was using and asked where she had got them. "O-oh, uh.... Actually I got them for her back in Pewter." Darren chuckled sheepishly. "After my battle with Brock, I went shopping and got a few things for both of us...." He mumbled, keeping his eyes downcast and a smile plastered on his face. That had been shortly after he had gotten the three of them trapped in that awful haunted house.... A memory he hadn't quite gotten over yet. He still felt rather guilty for the whole ordeal. It had all been his fault after all. If he hadn't been so stupid and trusting of that girl... Darren's smile faltered. Come to think of it, a lot of bad things had been happening to this group because of him.... Or at least it felt like he was at fault for a good deal of it...

Oaken and Rose are a bit too strong to handle right now. But yeah, Frizz is my joltik. It sounds like she'll do well against staru, but starmie might be a problem,"she replied, then chuckled sheepishly as she rubbed the back of her head."Between Electroweb and Giga Drain, she's got damage covered pretty well, but she doesn't have any bug-type attacks yet. She's also not that well-trained, so even facing Misty's staru might be pushing it."As she spoke, a thought crossed her mind, and the teen put a hand to her chin as a thoughtful expression crossed her face."Honey has Twinneedle, though..."As her words trailed off, Sable turned in her seat to get a look at the beedrill. She had changed back to her usual, cheery self for the moment, which was good. She still had that stone with her though, which worried the teen more than it should have. The fact that Honey had acted so calm in her mega state put the teen off for a reason she didn't want to think about. And yet, it seemed no harm was done.

Speaking of fruit, Sable remembered that she still hadn't actually used those berry pots of hers, so she dug a couple of them out of her pack so that she could get them set up. That seemed to be something that grabbed Gavyn's interest, as almost as soon as she set the pair of pots on the table, he inquired as to where she had gotten them. Which was fine, except that her answer wasn't exactly all that helpful."Ah, I didn't get them. Darren got them for me,"she replied with a sheepish chuckle before pulling some berries out of her bag. Darren's reaction distracted her a bit, though, and she didn't notice that she dropped one of the berries she was pulling out. She couldn't blame the teen for not being comfortable with talking about the situation, though."Well, it's probably for the best if you did. Frizz had apparently found and latched onto the dropped Lum berry and was now rolling around on the ground with it, cheerfully chittering away. Considering how skittish she usually was, it was nice to see her having fun, even if that meant playing with a dropped berry by herself."Hehehe, eh, heheh, I've got more,"she commented in what was meant to be a casual manner, but the giggles kept her from actually being able to act as if it were a normal thing. She was able to pull out another berry without dropping it, though, so that one ended up getting planted while Frizz continued to play with the one she had. She wasn't one for playing with her food, but seeing the little joltik having fun, she couldn't bring herself to take the berry away. Besides, it could come in handy, so she supposed it was a win-win situation.

He needed to look about adding some variety to her moveset, like he had with Totodile, and he was fairly certain he had more than enough heartscales to do so. Releasing the squirtle, Zak knelt down, being careful of the egg still held in his arms. "Vorota, I vant you to take zis," he instructed, placing it on the squirtles forehead, "And learn to use 'Dynamic Punch'. Just... sving hard to heet your opponent, okay?" The squirtle blinked at the instructions, reaching her little arms up towards the heartscale. He pulled his hand away and she pulled it down to look at it, but it promptly disintegrated. She blinked, but then nodded, turning to happily hurry off after Rufflet and join in the battle fray. She sure was an odd little squirtle.....

Given last time, he decided to stay put, instead turning his attention to the egg, gently polishing it and humming to himself. Zak frowned, but then shook his head, following her into the pokecenter and up to the rooms. "I'm goeng to take a shower," he decided dropping his things. Rota let out a 'coo' and flung herself onto one of the beds, giggling and bouncing around while Rufflet just stared flatly at , remaining near the entrance on the floor. Lidia rolled her eyes, mostly at Zak, and moved over to the other bed. "And you're taking that egg with you?" she muttered, raising an eyebrow at him. He quirked one back at her. "Da?" He sounded as though this were perfectly normal and expected... She rolled her eyes as he disappeared into the bathroom, laying back and folding her arms behind her head. She might as well take advantage of the opportunity to rest a little bit...
While Rota bounced and skittered over the bed, Rufflet settled in on the floor. Zak emerged from the bathroom after a bit, dressed only in jeans, the egg in his hands as he raised an eyebrow at Rota, who was on her back, in the midst of sheets, holding her toes with her hands and lightly rocking back and forth. ".... Alright then..." he muttered, turning his attention to Lidia. He eyed her a moment, trying to regard whether she was asleep, then, rather loudly, walked over to his things, setting the egg in his lap and rustling about, glancing at her. Ah, yes, the frown and annoyance on her face made it clear she was awake. "By ze vay, Lidia, do you mind doing me a favor?" he asked. She gave a low sound at the back of her throat. "Another one?" she muttered as he pulled on some socks and drew out a shirt to finish getting dressed. "I vas just vondering eef you could drop me off near Anville," he clarified, ignoring her tone. She sighed, pushing herself up. "Fine. I'm washing off first, though," she decided, striding to the bathroom. He smirked after her. "Fair enough."

Asriel's tail swayed behind him, licking his claws as the charmeleon revealed his name to be Flynn. "Nice to meetchya too!" he beamed, still pie on his face. He pondered over Flynn's questioning while nibbling on some more pie. "Wellll I'm on a fun kind of adventure! I wanna see all kinds of places!" the fuzzy lizard finally responded. He tried not to think too much about how he had left his trainer behind to go on this adventure, but it kinda showed through with a sad glimmer in his eyes as he nommed on his pie.
Gavyn remained mostly quiet as Sable asked for advice on her upcoming battle, fidgeting a bit. However, when she brought out what seemed to be small planters for berries, he spoke up again, asking of it's origins. It certainly seemed handy, and he'd have to get some for himself some time. It seemed that Darren had actually bought them for her. She was preparing some berries to plan, when her little bug pokemon clung to a lum and was rolling around cutely.

It seemed that while Sable did have grass types to help her handle Misty's gym, they were currently too strong, and might possibly disobey, which was part of the reason Sable wanted to go and do her gym battle. "Ahh I see." Darren nodded in understanding. They had been quite busy traveling and going to different events or getting pulled into strange places where they needed to battle, so that left little time to challenge gyms, and a lot of potential to over level their pokemon. It seemed like Frizz was a good bet though. "Well I wouldn't worry about bug moves, I mean you have water type advantages covered with those other two moves. Plus giga drain would help her recover some of the health she loses. I suppose if she's undertrained though, I can see where the issue lies." Darren agreed, but Sable mentioned that Honey did have twinneedle. Normally Darren would be for the strategy but... "Have you done any training with her mega evolution...?" Darren asked tentatively, his concern reasonable and obvious. Sable seemed to agree, suggesting that she planned to have the mega beedrill face a wild pokemon or two before sending her into a gym battle, and Darren nodded approvingly. "She does seem like her usual bubbly self, but it certainly couldn't hurt to practice since her mega form is new to you both." Darren agreed.
As they talked, Sable messed with her new berry pots, finally putting them to use and planting a few berries in them, which sparked Gavyn's interest, asking where she got the pots, so they both explained that Darren had actually been the one to get them, Darren farther elaborating that the store had been back in Pewter, although he was quite uncomfortable about the subject due to the events prior to getting the pots. Sable attempted to cheer him up, suggesting that it was a good thing he had gotten the posts, insinuating that Jin couldn't get enough of pecha berries. Jin insisted that at least the pots were cheaper than trail mix, and Darren chuckled a bit at their lighthearted argument, feeling a bit better. Darren noticed however that as she was talking to Jin, one of the berries she was going to plant had rolled off the table, and he was about to grab it for her, but it seemed Frizz was faster, quickly moving over to latch onto the berry and roll around with it on the floor, so Darren simply sat back and chuckled, amused with the bug's antics. It wasn't long before Sable noticed as well, dismissing the lost berry since she had more to plant.
Flynn smiled as Asriel suggested he was on a fun kind of adventure, and wanted to see all kinds of places. "Well, you're in luck kid. That's kinda the adventure we're on too. Why don't you stick around with us? That way you won't get lost anymore." He suggested, though he noted the charmander's slightly sadder expression as he nibbled at the remainder of his pie slice. "...Hey, what's the matter?" Flynn frowned, wondering if it was something he said.

As much as she would rather let Frizz just keep playing with the berry, she did need to get most of her team recalled and get moving. That badge wasn't going to earn itself."So does that mean you're done eating?"the teen asked as she looked down at the happy bug. Frizz gave something that sounded like a squeak and a whimper before tightening her grip on the Lum berry. Sable couldn't help but give a light sigh."I'm not gonna take your berry away. We just need to head out soon, so I need to get back in their balls everyone that's not walking,"she explained, causing the small bug to glance at what was left of the pellets she was given. Unlike the others, she didn't need a whole lot, so Jin had only given her a few of them. Of those pellets, only one whole one was left, with the other remaining one looking like it only needed another few bites from Frizz to be finished up. She felt rather full, though, so she rolled closer to her trainer while keeping her grip on the Lum berry."Alright, I'll see ya later."With that, Sable recalled the tiny bug.
Afterwards, it didn't take long for the teen to call back most of her other pokemon that were done eating. The only one left out was Jin, and as far as Sable was concerned, he may as well stay out if he wanted to."Welp, I'm gonna see if I can find a pokemon or two for Honey to spar against,"the teen told Darren and Gavyn as she stood up."I'll head over to face Misty afterwards if things go well, so... See you there, I guess?"With that, Sable made her way out of the cafeteria and the pokemon center itself, Jin following along behind her.
The two of them walked for a while before Sable let out her beedrill. Honey was glad to be let back out so soon, but tilted her head in confusion as she looked at her trainer."Heh, sorry. This must seem pretty sudden, huh?"Sable asked with a chuckle."I just wanted to check something about that, uh, mega thing that stone lets you do, alright?"The request seemed simple enough, so Honey gave her trainer a few rapid nods while chittering happily."Heh, alright. Let's see if we can't find ya a sparring partner."It seemed neither of them had to wait too long to find someone, though, since a bellsprout wandered out from some nearby bushes to see who was making such a fuss. After a bit of banter back and forth, the plant pokemon looked like it was ready to fight. Honey got her game face on too, and almost as soon as she did, she and the mega stone she was holding started glowing. The keystone in Sable's cloak pin also started to glow as Honey's shape shifted. Once the glow subsided, the beedrill was once again in her mega form.
"Alright, let's see here."Aside from the fact that the pokemon was supposed to get more powerful, Sable didn't really have anything to go off of, so she dug her P*DA out from one of her pockets and quickly navigated to the Strategy Memo application. The bellsprout was at least willing to wait a moment for the trainer to get the device out, it seemed that the plant pokemon was rather impatient. Thankfully, Sable had spotted one change that gave her something to try, if nothing else, before the bellsprout could actually land a blow."Try a Twinneedle!"Honey didn't exactly seem excited to battle after her form change, but at her trainer's command she quickly zipped over to the plant pokemon and landed two solid jabs with her stingers. It was enough to knock the pokemon back and show a clear winner in the sparring match. Jin let out a low whistle, not having expected a low-power move like Twinneedle to do that much damage. Sable chuckled a bit as she looked over the data a bit more."Yeah, that kinda sums up my thoughts when I saw her ability changed to Adaptability,"she replied as Honey shifted back to her usual appearance and waved goodbye to the bellsprout.

"So, what did you think?"Jin asked as his trainer checked Honey over. Personally, the zorua was a little wary of the beedrill's personality change, and he figured that Sable was, too. For someone as easily excitable as Honey, that abrupt calmness was far too strange for the dark type's liking. Still, he supposed it was better than the other possibilities."...Well... At least she seems to be fairly passive... So she should be okay to bring in,"the teen answered hesitantly, although she seemed to be paying more attention to the beedrill than Jin. While something still bothered him, Jin couldn't really argue against Sable's judgement, since it was fairly similar to his own. Instead, he shrugged and started heading towards the gym."Fair enough,"he said before pausing to glance back at Sable."We might wanna hurry and get that battle done, though. Too much longer and she might get too antsy to handle."With that bit of warning, the dark type went back to walking towards Cerulean's gym, his trainer hurrying along with him after hastily recalling Honey.
It didn't take long for the two to reach the gym, along with anyone else that wanted to come along."Well, in I go~"Sable said cheerfully before entering the building, this time with Jin being the one following behind her. Although, shortly after entering, Sable was legitimately stunned by how large the pool was. Part of that awe was admittedly due to her not really getting to see many large pools like this, the closest thing to one being the rare oasis that she passed by time and again when heading between the limited landmarks that dotted her home region.
A hand on her shoulder managed to pull the teen out of her brief daze rather quickly."Hey,"Jin began before jutting the thumb of his other hand towards one of the edges of the room."I'm gonna head over there. Watch from the sidelines,"he explained. The dark type then gave Sable a broad grin and a thumbs-up."You're gonna do great!"With that last bit of encouragement said, Jin walked around the pool and made his way over to what could possibly be considered the sidelines. Sable, on the other hand, made her way forward along the paths and picked her way across to the other end of the gym. Right now, the teen was seriously wishing she could have just worn a swimsuit and swam to the other side of the gym. Unfortunately, that wouldn't have been a very good idea due to all the nicks and scrapes she had, plus the bandages she had to wear for the time being.
Eventually, Sable managed to get over to where a teen about her own age with orangy-red hair was waiting."Hey there!"the redhead greeted cheerfully with a wave, sounding rather pleased to see the new face."You don't look like you're here for a swim, so that must make you a challenger."Sable grinned a bit at the question."You got it! The name's Sable, and I'm looking to battle Misty!"the desert trainer told the teen with confidence, to which she got a grin in return."Well, you found her! I'll gladly take you on, Sable!"Sable was a bit surprised that the gym leader was someone who seemed so young. She was honestly expecting someone in their mid-twenties at youngest, but then again, Striaton and Pewter's gym leaders were a rather limited pool for references.
With the bit of introduction done, the two went over to a section that was specifically set up for gym battles. The battlefield obviously favored water pokemon, being a large pool of water with a few pillars providing platforms for pokemon that couldn't fly or swim."Heh... Fire specialists must really hate this place,"Sable muttered with a quiet chuckle as she grabbed Frizz's ball."Hope you brought your 'A' game, 'cause you're gonna need it!"the gym leader called out as she tossed one of the balls she had towards the water, apparently not hearing the comment Sable made. Out of the ball popped a brown, star-shaped pokemon with a red gem set on its front. The staru quickly dove into the pool, ready to face whatever pokemon might be sent out against it."Oh, I've got your 'A' game right here!"Sable chucked the ball as hard as she could, letting the pokemon inside out onto the platform. Of course, given that the pokemon in question was a joltik, her size made it quite difficult to spot her on the platform.
At first, Misty blinked in confusion, since she was a bit too far away to actually be able to see Frizz or the berry she held. After a moment, she started to laugh."Alright, that's a funny joke. Now where's staru's opponent?"she asked after calming down a bit, to which Sable gave what would have been a pout if she hadn't thought the situation was funny as well. Too much amusement was plastered on her face for her to actually look offended."She's right there,she replied as she pointed towards where the timid joltik had been let out. Nevermind that she couldn't see the poor little bug try to hide under her berry."You're gonna do great, Frizz! This round's all yours!"the teen cheered, since she at least knew that her little lightning bug wasn't exactly a bold pokemon and figured she could use a confidence boost.
Although she still thought it was some sort of joke, apparently her opponent let something out of its ball. Either that, or she was nuts, which, quite honestly, Misty wasn't a possibility Misty was about to toss out anytime soon. Still, obviously the ball had let out something, and whatever it was, clearly that Sable girl was cheering it on, so it couldn't hurt to at least toss a move that way."Ooookay. Whatever you say, Sable. Staru! Hit that platform with a Water Pulse!"Even though she was skeptical, Misty still had a job to do, as did her pokemon. The staru, who had been lurking underwater and waiting for an opponent to appear, suddenly swam up and leaped out from the pool. As it soared over the platform its trainer indicated, it let loose several rings of water, striking the top of the platform dead-on. It could have sworn it heard a tiny squeak of terror as it landed back in the pool, that squeak belonging to a soaked Frizz."Huh, whaddya know. There was something there."
"Frizz! You alright, there?!"A few squeaks sounded out as a response to her call, giving Sable some relief. Not much, though, as she saw the movement of a brown shape under the water and knew the fight had just gotten started."It's coming back around! Get ready!""You better believe it! Another Water Pulse!"Although she didn't have the same vantage point as her trainer and couldn't follow the staru's movements while it was under the water, between the splash it made when it surfaced again, how quick she could turn around, and her multiple eyes, it wasn't difficult for the lightning bug to spot the starfish pokemon as it came out of the water."Electroweb! Snare it!"It was a hurried command, but Frizz was at least able to keep herself together enough to spit some electrified strands of silk out at the staru. And more. And still more. And oh, sweet Arceus, where was it all coming from! A truly disproportionate amount of sticky, stunning silk was spat out by the tiny little dot that was the joltik. It was certainly enough to startle the staru and knock it off course. Instead of landing back in the water for another bit of hit and run tactics, the starfish pokemon was going to have a sore point due to a hard landing on the even harder platform.
With the staru grounded for the moment, Sable knew she and Frizz needed to seize the initiative."Now! Giga Drain!"With a squeak of acknowledgement, Frizz once again sent out an attack that was surprisingly large for her body, a moderately-sized ball of green energy that was easily a direct hit on the dazed staru. As the last of the pokemon's energy was absorbed, Misty was stunned. Her staru had been defeated by a tiny speck of a bug."...That was... Embarrassing... But good fight!"The gym leader's lament was quickly cut off as she remembered she needed to at least try and console her pokemon."Take a good, long rest, staru."As Misty clipped the unconscious water type's ball back onto her belt, Sable also held out Frizz's ball."You did great, Frizz!"At least, the plan was to quickly and cleanly recall the joltik. Sable was having a bit of trouble spotting the tiny pokemon, though, and it took a few tries for the beam of red light to actually hit the lightning bug.
After some chuckling from the two teenage girls, Misty tightened her grip on her second pokemon's pokeball."Alright! Let's get serious, starmie!"the gym leader called out as she tossed the pokeball out in front of her. This time, aimed it so that the pokemon would land on the platform. Whether it was because she felt staru's hit and run tactics wouldn't work again after being thwarted so easily or if it was simply because this pokemon did better with a stable platform, Sable wasn't sure, but either way, the starmie materialized on the top of one of the platforms."Right. You're up, Honey,"Sable said calmly as she lightly tossed the ball in front of her. For most other pokemon she had, it would have resulted in a dunking upon release, but since it was Honey, her rapidly-beating wings allowed her to hover above the water's surface as she chittered cheerfully."No, no hugs,"Sable told the bug with a voice that clearly indicated that she was holding back laughter. A few chuckles did manage to slip out as her opponent let out a startled shriek."What are you, some kind of bug trainer?!"the gym leader shouted, causing Sable to laugh even harder."No, no. Frizz and Honey are the only two,"she assured the gym leader.
Once the bit of humor on the side of the trainer ebbed away, both she and Honey knew it was time to actually finish up the gym battle. Once again, Honey's mega stone started glowing, as did the key stone in Sable's pin. Misty looked a bit more uncomfortable as Honey's appearance shifted to that of her mega form, although it was probably more due to the beedrill looking even more intimidating after its mega evolution than anything else. Even so, Misty was a gym leader, and that meant it was her job to see this fight through to the end."Drench that bug with Water Pulse!"she called out, figuring the best way to deal with the pokemon would be to dampen the wings and make them unable to support the body for a while. Force it to stay on a platform, if nothing else. Sable had other plans, though."Close in and strike with Twinneedle!"Honey, who had waited calmly where she had evolved as the starmie readied its attack, suddenly started zipping across the pool towards her opponent. Although several rings of water were spat out at her, the mega beedrill was able to zip through, around, and over them without any injury. Granted, there were several close calls, but she managed to get in close before the purple starfish could let out one too many pulses for her to evade. First a left, then a right, and those two jabs with her stingers were all it took for the starmie to be knocked out.
