Change to 6.
He didn't find any stones at first but noticed the cave was had a weird liquid among the wall. Picking at it, two stones chipped away. He took these and left, not liking the look of that goo and knowing he wouldn't like what made it.

Step Two Some of the caves house many useful stones, other house things waiting to kill you. You can keep on collecting for as long as your willing to risk it (or until you die.)
Roll 1d8 1: A few stones! Roll 1d4 to see how many you find in this cave! 2: Sentient seaweed aggressively gropes you! Roll 1d4 to see how much damage it does! 3: A nice amount of stones! Roll 1d8 to see how many you find in this cave! 4: Tentacles! Roll 1d8 to see how much damage they do! 5: A bunch of stones! Roll 1d10 to see how many you find in this cave! 6: This area becomes permanently mob free and reveals a large cache of stones, roll 1d20 to see how many you find in this cave! 7: The mermaids guarded several large, dark caves that are now open to explore. Hundreds to thin, snake-like tendrils shoot out from the darkness. Roll 1d12 to see how much damage they do! 8: The mermaids guarded several large, dark caves that are now open to explore. What appears to be a cave full of inviting stones is actually a huge toothy maw, patiently waiting to devour you. Roll 1d20 to see how much damage it does! The mer-guards were now long gone and he swam slowly, enjoying how it body moved with a pressure about him before he curled into a lower cave.

He could have gone longer as he picked up more wines, but his shoulder would regret it and Saliva was growing restless. She always was uneasy when he swam, but a desert creature probably would be. Water was a blessing, but a lot was a curse.
He decided to stop for the day.

Quote: Roll 1d6 1: you are safe. 2: you are safe. 3: you are safe. 4: a massive sea creature attacks you. Roll 1d20 to escape its gaping maw. If you roll 10+ you escape it, if you roll below you receive 10 damage and need to try again. 5: a bus-sized sea creature attack you. It has 30 HP and 5 auto damage. You can escape it by rolling 1d20 and getting 13+, failure results in auto damage. 6: a small-sized sea creature attack you. It has 15 HP and 3 auto damage. You can escape it by rolling 1d20 and getting 15+, failure results in auto damage. If your HP drops below 0, you lose half your stones as your body floats back to the surface Bag heavy, he made his way slowly to the surface and sat at the beach, taking his mask off and changing as he enjoyed fresh air and the warm sun. Once he felt a bit more rested, he headed to the greenhouse to drop off the stones and left to shower, change, and drop off the Sun gear. It wasn't till last dinner that he returned to carve.

Quote: Roll 1d10 for each rune stone 1-4: failure! The runestone never glows and eventually breaks. 5-8: Regular Rune! The runestone can power small, battery-operated runic devices for up to a week. 9-10: Superior Rune! The runestone can charge your runic weapons. (In and out of battle. If in battle, it will take 5 turns for the weapon to properly charge.) He took off his coat and pulled at the hem of his shirt. It was warm but that helped him feel tired enough to sleep later. Hair wet, he started to carve slowly but found he wasn't in the groove yet, making more amateur mistakes than usual. Still, there was more superiors and all out failures.

He then cleaned the desk of dust and pebbles. He had no real plans for the stones and left them as he closed the greenhouse and headed for bed.

Step One In the water surrounding the island, there's numerous eldritch horrors of the deep waiting to attack your hunter.

The sky was cloudy. Choppy waves hit the shore while a light rain was starting. It was clearly not advisable for anyone to be in the water even on sunny days, but as he felt the rain hotnhosnauit, it didn't feel all that threatening in the scheme of things.
It took a great amount of effort to cut through the waves that wanted to send him crashing back into the beach, but once he drove down past the push and pull of the currents, the water was calm. It was darker here and he turned on his chest light as he slowly dove down

Moving down, he noticed the waving appendages of several long tentacles moving among the flowing seaweed. It was something he hadn't noticed when he first dove down, but as he moved down, he noticed how they moved against the current.
Taking note, he turned and headed towards some coral reefs for the cover and the caves.

In a cave made half of coral, Melvin brushed away fish scales and old pieces of metal that he couldn't decipher where from, and picked out a few stones to start out. It was a warmer day, the water no longer froze him as much as winter had, and he welcomed summer. Soon he might even swim without the intent of doing runic work.

The tentacles were still about, moving among seaweed and slowly migrate to the coral reefs, but he also noticed there was more than one. He had no idea what the tentacles were attached to, nor did he want to know. Instead, he moved against the wall and to the next cave.

The other cave provided a abundance of stones, and he checked off his mental map about the area. He would need to come next week and check the other caves he missed. He'd also have to keep his eyes out for the tentacle herds that were moving around, slinking in the nooks and crannies of the reef.

With a big NOPE, he moved to the next cave that seemed far more inviting and less cluttered with potentially strangling seaweed.

It was safe but not as profitable to his work as the other caves. He did pause, looking over at a cluster or coral completely torn apart with claws. Someone had a hissy fit and by the look of the dark stains, didn't last long either.
He swam out a bit more quickly than before.
