Her boots clacked as she walked and she pulled her coat a little closer around her. She took a deep breath. In and out. It was cold and her breath reflected this. Where was she?
Harlow looked up and around. She knew where she was. She had been there many times, in person... but also in her dreams. Something felt odd, something just wasn't sitting right with her and she couldn't quiet figure it out. She moved quickly to... somewhere. she knew where she was going, her body was moving in that direction but she didn't -know- where she was going. It was like she was on auto pilot and she didn't quite understand. She walked a little faster, and then faster and as she walked it was almost as if the view of darkness started to clear. She started to realize where she was going. Her father's boat.
She started to run quicker and quicker and as she did everything sounded louder. Her boots were louder, the metal hallway she was in was louder and the screams, the screams were louder. She was in her father's fishing boat and she was running toward where he was supposed to be dying. The more she ran however the longer the hallway got. It grew colder and colder. She started to slow more and more.
She finally found herself on the ground and screaming for the noises to start, trying to pull her coat around her as tight as she could as if it would make her warmer some how.
But the worst part of it was she had been here before, in this dream and she knew how it went. She passes out and then shortly wakes back up, walking down the same hallway.

You're asleep. You're so cozy and warm and nothing can bother you. Yet now.. Now you're here, in class.. You, who knew everything, you who though you were smart enough to always know what's going on. You, who studied countless, COUNTLESS hours in order to know all, to PROVE you know all now sit here, staring dumbly at this packet of white paper.
What was this even? Random scribbled bits of nonsense that not even the smartest scribe in the world could understand. And who were these people around you? Their hands moving faster than imaginable, twisting and shaping the words about like they were as natural to them as breathing. Or maybe not breathing.
You are not them. You sit here and stare as the words shift and twist about the pages, staring to float up off the page, taunting you, forming words that you finally recognize.
"You are a failure."
"You know nothing!"
"Stop trying, there's not point! No one cares what you know!"
"No one is impressed!"
"YOU KNOW NOTHING!"
You feel like there's nothing more to be done. The paper morphs into a snake, it's fangs little metal points formed from the paperclips that once held them together. It wants you. It's staring you, your throat. It's eyeing that blue ink floating from your mouth. Your eyes. The ink that held all the answers inside of you, flowing through your veins, leaks onto the desk below, causing the snake to grow larger, and larger, and larger, swelling it up as if it was absorbing your very life.
And it was. It now stands far taller than you, wrapping and slithering all around this classroom, ignoring those around you, focusing only on the ink that continues to leak from your body.
You are pale now. All color, all life drains from your eyes, leaving them empty and white, and you're left with nothing but your paper thin skin.
In an instant, the white paper snake is black, it's eyes glow the color of your once vibrant ink. And in an instant, you are swallowed whole.

He felt time slowing.
Tick. Tock.
Tick.
Tock.
It was agonizing. Everything was stopping. He felt heavy. The freedom he relied on felt like it was slipping away with every longer and longer moment that ticked by.
Tick.
Even his motions felt sluggish. His eyes, too. They looked around, catching glimpses of people that only seemed to be walking backwards, ever further away from him and into the dark abyss.
The dark was incoming.
Tock.
Ignatius attempted to lift a hand to tell them to stop walking away, to not leave him alone, but the words were lost on deaf ears.
His words echoed endlessly as the second finally ran out.
Tick.
And his body felt too heavy to stand.

Everyone knew.
They tore her mask off, leaving her jaw slack and her mouth wide and viewable.
They all knew how ugly she was.
Her hands flew up to her mouth, clamping down and attempting to hide the long opening that ran across from her lips to below her ear, but it was with little success. It was too late. Everyone knew now. They all knew she was ugly and hideous and disfigured beyond repair.
They were laughing, they were all laughing.
The laughter was never ending, and her tears were never stopping.

You dream a terrible dream one that seems to last forever.
She was drowning.
Something that should've been impossible became reality. The water clutched her neck, pressing against it roughly, sliding into her lungs, her stomach, her everything— she couldn't breathe. The water slid in her nose, parting ways going upwards and sliding down, to her air pipe. She was stuck in suspended motion, body floating in the water, falling limp from the rough current that was pulling her. Her eyes were wide and open, watching everything that happened. Her arms went weak, jaw lax and open, but her eyes— her eyes never shut. Why... . Why wouldn't they close? She drifted downward through the suddenly slow water, mouth agape, tiny blue lips making her look like a corpse. Landing gently on the sandy floor, the body stayed there, half dead, half alive, stuck between two worlds— the dead... And the living.
She didn't know which world she was scared of the most. So her mind defaulted to a comfortable one inbetween. And that... was drowning. And never... ever... dying. Just staying there, in a suspended state, unable to move, waiting for the seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months to pass... And never be found.
Drowning. How ironic?

He was looking in a mirror except it wasn’t him – it was a travesty. An absolute train wreck stared back at him, face disfigured and hair patchy and falling out. There wasn’t a dab of color or glamour anywhere, he was dull, faded, washed up.
He was ugly.

Always a random assortment of pictures flashing in no particular order, sometimes in silence and others with the faint maddening hum of whispering voices. This was a usual night, this particular madness normal, a sweet haunting relief if you would as he was quieted into a deep slumber in the everlasting frozen night of his home terrain after another day of mischief beneath his father’s gnarled wings.
Tonight was different, but it started out just as any other night. Settled on top of his pelt blankets like usual, vicious wings spread open behind, tail curled around his body with deep and slow rested breaths. Crips and clear, he woke up rather suddenly out of this dead sleep and growled under his breath in the frustration of an interrupted sleep. He continued to lay there, attempting his hardest to fall back to sleep though to no avail. A small walk around the underground catacombs ought to be enough to clear his mind, and off he went, sharp clawed feet lightly clicking on the ground to each footstep. One big yawn after another, clearly he was tired but why in the world was his mind so alert, what was the reason for this knot in his stomach.
It was silent, and although already dark in the catacombs, it was much darker tonight. Unusual, he’d done this many times past. Funny how the smallest details you would never think twice about make such a difference when they aren’t there. Pointless thoughts, icy hued eyes looked lazily from left to right, arms swinging callously beside him before falling to rest behind his head, nestling nicely around his curved pairs of horns. His tail slide and banged against the rusty metal bars that comprised the cells of this tortured prison of the damned. Usually groans of misery and pain would ring after the ruckus he caused, tonight there was silence.
At this point he slowed to a stop in the heart of the catacombs, arms crossed as he narrowed his eyes. The silence was unsettling as his skeletal spine began to rise through his skin, the unnerving darkness causing the subconscious move. His body tense as his arms lowered and a small huff emanated from him. Whatever…he was a 16 year old fallen demon spawn, he was on top of the world and who could ever harm him? The anxiety level simply continued to rise the more he lingered, wings flaring open as he turned to leave, spitting on the ground as if to say he had not been scared away…rather...he was now tired enough to return to sleep. Spines were fully raised as the rest of his skeletal armor began to rise through his skin.
More than annoyed, he knew his wasn’t scared but his body was saying otherwise as he started to look over his shoulder before he felt paralyzed in the moment, his head twisted at an uncomfortable angle and leg in mid-step Then there was a vicious pain running along his back, a warm sticky liquid felt like it was spreading along the area of pain. Just as quickly as the pain came, it intensified as the sound of crunching bones rang loud in his ear. He wanted to howl in pain, but somehow his voice had left him as did the catacombs. His arms and legs had been frozen to the ground of what appeared to be his father’s ceremonial chamber, face and figures of unknowns silhouetted around a ring of low lit flames. Everything happened in such a rush that he was left in a daze, pain ebbing wildly along his spine until he could no longer hold himself up, feeling as if the bones of his spine were being pulled straight out from his body like troublesome thorns.
It was then his sense started to recovered, now hearing his own cries of anguish above the harmonious haunting hum of strange words this group around him chanted, bones still being plucked from his body. His wings spread and impaled into the stone ground as he began to feel as though the base of them were being cut, and to his own horror and exhausted eyes, lo and behold his wings being torn from his body.
Labored breaths plagued him as he fought to say or shout something, but it seemed his tormentors already knew what the cry was going to be.
“Unclean abomination…your reign will never begin as the end of your unholy lineage commences today…”

The shadows were restless tonight, restless enough to give persistent chase to a girl who could see them. But she was quick and she had endurance on her side. She kept on running, running, running in a landscape that blurred past her, all but reveling in thwarting the unseen pursuers.
But she did not remain alone for long. Others began to show up as she ran, cheerful faces, familiar faces, each successive arrival more and more dear to her heart. There was always enough time to see each person, to recognize them, to fear for their safety. Sometimes, she turned to face her enemies, only to find nothing behind her. Sometimes, she pulled the others along in her run. Sometimes, she tried to lure the shadows on a detour far far away. Still, the shadows tore each one, friend or family, away from her.
