Jerry floated, abs-up, into the edge of the pool with a casual crack, and blood streamed through the water around him.
His glasses glinted at the bottom of the pool near the filter.

He was stunned silent for a moment, looking at Rep with wide eyes, a few tears glimmering at the corners of his vision but not yet falling. "You mean...you know that dream too? You were there? I ...I just spoke to someone who looked like me, and - they should me what you did." And they told him not to trust anyone, especially Rep.
He looked down, struggling to organize his thoughts and what questions to ask first. "Why wouldn't you just give me the chance to fight? Why did you feel responsible to kill me and no one else? You never even gave me a chance in that dream to live? You just - just assumed I'd die in battle. Do you really think I'm that weak?" He frowned, honestly hurt. "Do you, in this world, not think that?" Everyone around him probably thought he wasn't strong enough to keep himself alive, and now he really did feel that way.
"I guess if it comes down to it, people just think that I should be given a mercy killing than ever thinking I could manage surviving on my own without them." He held himself, looking down. "They're probably right." That fight in the haunted house had nearly killed him after all. "I don't even know why I'm even here on this island. I'm not any use."
WTF are you even saying, Melvin? You don't think like this? You have been doing research and reports since being a trainee? You've trained with me all the time. You did all those training courses and met a lot of people. You're not thinking straight. Eat something. I think you must have low blood sugar or something.
Melvin wasn't listening to her.

of all the stupid things to happen. jerry had to take a header. the life trainee swore under his breath and dove in to the water to take care of the injured Jerry. "We got a bleeder!" he roared, trying to grab a hold of his arm and pull him out of the water.
It would have been a little bit easier if the body was a stick and he wasn't waterlogged, dead weight in the water was never fun to get out unless there was a current in your favor.
There was no more fun times to be had as he started to bark at the others and fashion a quick bandage out of a strip of his shirt. "Jerry why do you have to be a pain in my a**, I NEED A MED KIT SOMEONE, QUICKLY!" he roared behind him, taking the piece of green fabric and patting it against the gash on his skull.
he was sure the man was breathing earlier, but there was no room to just go off that, checking his pulse and leaving his ear over the musicians mouth to check for signs of inhalation.

There was none. Breath that is, his pulse was fine, as shown by the exaggerated spray from the back of his head.

"The you in that world was trusting and innocent. The other me liked him a lot, wanted to take care of him. He wasn't a fighter, he wasn't you. He talked about people and family and how he just ******** wanted a friend. And the other me told him he was his friend. He would die. You wouldn't. I wanted to ******** save him before the world crumbled, I wanted it to be quick. One hit. So he'd never need to know." he wilted. "There aren't many people I would take out rather than see die slowly and painfully, I used to think I was doing them a favour, putting myself through ******** hell to make sure it was at my hands, that it was merciful as I could make it. I wish I could have done it for other people, people I had to watch slowly waste away until they were like. Until they were just this twisted thing that wasn't alive but had a heartbeat. But clearly I wasn't doing the right thing, clearly I'm just ******** in the head. "
He sighed shallowly. "I don't think you are weak. I don't keep the company of weaklings. You are smart and you are more ******** smart at keeping your emotions to yourself that even I can't ******** read you. You are dangerous, plenty ******** dangerous. So no. The only time I'd ever put you down was if you were trapped like Julie, in that ******** place where we can end up that isn't dead or alive."
"You've seen me ******** try to lie. Why would I lie about this s**t? I'm not exactly ******** up to my eyeballs in friends. Most people are telling me I'm too dangerous to have friends at all."

Jerry was not breathing. he hit his head on the side of the pool.
it was just a horrible accident and Leon could just leave it at that. Jerry did fall off the diving board rather ungracefully. The sun hunter would have a grand performance at his funeral. the boxer was sure he could bribe a tech to play taps over his tiny marker in the yard with the other lost souls.
it was almost..... too perfect.
but no, as tempting as it was, he was a life hunter. sworn to take care of the tech and the injuries.
it was up to him to restart the maniac's heart. with a sigh and the roll of his sparkly eyes, there was the mundane process of chest compression and the offering of forced oxygen into his lungs.
And when that b*****d woke up he was going right back into the pool. he didn't care how much sparkly crap popped up out of nowhere during the process.
he was sure solia was going to try and find a romantic angle on this. Jerry was once again, on his s**t list.

He grew quiet, digesting that information and feeling stupid that he hadn't asked soon. Why hadn't he? Mainly because he couldn't look at Rep since that dream because he felt ridiculous and didn't know exactly how to go about talking about it.
"I'm sorry. I just...didn't know what to think. It was - just very vivid. It felt like a bad omen, and I'm already been feeling like I've been dodging death too much lately." So many hunters here didn't seem to care if they lived or died while he just was terrified every moment he might wind up as one of those graves on the island.
Melvin continued to rub his arm. "You're still my friend, Rep. I just want to watch out for you because so many people seem to want to shelter you like your some idiot dog who is good for biting any thieves but too stupid to train and given a free pass when he bites the mailman." It was a really bad metaphor he had to admit. "You're better than that. You have a lot of traits and skill people would envy, and your so observant of people that it's terrifying how spot on you can get."
He breathed out, still troubled by something. "Did...you like that other me in that world more?"

Rep sighed at Melvin, not in a condescending manner, just tired. Tired of misunderstandings and of making an idiot of himself.
"People don't always just want to shelter me you know. A lot of them know fine well that I've ******** up, that I do s**t wrong. Just some of them realised like, sometimes I need people in my corner when I ******** up so I can get back up and fight again, try again, maybe fail again." He couldn't look at Melvin and he wasn't sure why he was sharing such a delicate weakness when he didn't even know where he stood with the other man. "I'm not some kind of ******** invincible monster. If all I had was people telling me I was dangerous and I'd never amount to anything I never ******** would. I'd just end up getting myself killed to fulfil their prophecies. I need people okay. So aye, tell me when I make a bollocks of things, just don't condemn the people who don't ******** cast me out for it."
He ran a hand through too-soft hair. He hated how it felt.
"No. He wasn't my Melvin. Just like the other Harrison wasn't my Ace. He made me wonder if there was s**t you were hiding, if maybe you were as lonely as that version, if you just wanted to fit in here maybe. I still don't know if you still think of this as like some kind of temporary place, like your heart is still back home or whatever. He made me curious, and maybe aye a bit jealous like there was an easy mode Melvin out there to understand."
He gave him a lop sided grin. "Because my one doesn't ******** have a manual."

The breath of life was put back in him, and there was no usual vomiting of swallowed water, just a soft groan, Jerry's eyes fluttering open to see Leon's in a semi-focused blur inches from his own. His heart was making a distinct Doki Doki sound he had never quite experienced before. "But you... you called me a traitor.. and... all this time...?"

He couldn't help but chuckle at that and finally looked up. "I'll give you my manual if you give me yours."
He breathed out, feeling a bit better, but still mixed up. What Rep just said near the end had been too spot on, and he wasn't sure what he should be taking as a stance in life now that he was here in Deus and there was no turning back. It was just hard to talk about. No one really had family here. He did. Well, he had. Family that had been his life and support. It made him hurt inside just thinking about them.
"I know this place isn't temporary. I gave up everything to be here and I can't go back. Now I just have to get comfortable laying in the bed I made."
"It's just......." He felt like there was a rock in his throat. "...very hard."
As his eyes glanced to the side, he saw Leon bending down and making out with Jerry and just froze, staring, watching the soft pink lens that seemed to take over his vision and the bubbles of light rise around them, before looking away. For whatever reason, the scene bothered him.
You are acting SO weird today.

It was official.
Leon's life sucked. All the background sparkles were going off like tinsel and white christmas lights and Jerry was not making the scene any better. "say kun again and ill tie nidhogg to you and put you back in the pool."
The life hunter was not feeling the doki doki. "Your heart rate is elevated, but it looks like you will survive the injury, and i need to go sanitize my... everything." really, swimming in a pool that had trace amounts of someones blood was not something bishounen. The nurturing actions that the life trainee had were dropped in an instant. and so was jerry's head back on the pavement.
Again, life sucked.

"I think you already have it. There's no much I've no told you." he shrugged earnestly. "Sometimes I think you know more about me than even my guys do. You probably do with all the questions you ask." and he wasn't even kidding he thought, the guys accepted him, they didn't ask questions.
"No one said s**t would be easy. But you had a family, you have something to fight for. That's something man. When I came here I didn't have anything but a death wish. My life was fuuuucked. Everything about it was ********. I came here to die I guess maybe and found a ******** up family instead." he shrugged. "No one is making you like, change how you are, or making you get comfortable here, but I guess like, we are all in the same boat whether we had s**t or not before to compare it to. So its there if you want it."
He looked at the ground intently. "I'm no good family. I don't have a ******** clue what proper families are like, but I still consider you like, part of mine. Even if it doesn't go both ways."

Rep cracked a proper smile. He couldn't help it. He could never help his emotions, it was the whole ******** root of all his problems on Deus. He wasn't a touchy feely person by any stretch of the imagination, by any twist you put on it. But for one ******** millisecond he felt like he might not be forcibly rejected, so he took his chance.
He hugged Melvin. Genuinely relieved he hadn't ******** up something else that was important.
"Good. I'm sorry for murdering you, goldilocks."

Melvin was not a touchy person. The actual sensation of a person against him was only enjoyed if his mind allowed him to enjoy it, and it only allowed that when people met a set of rules. However, with everyone in such pristine, groomed condition that they were all sparkling like freshly polished silver, his mind shut up and gave the green light. He could enjoy a hug, and as Rep moved in and held him, he realized he probably needed one since waking up from his pop and realizing he'd never have the life he had before.
His hands were limp by his side a moment as he collected his thoughts. "Sorry for being a huge p***k and shouting at you, Tiger." He said, and rose his arms up to hug him back.
The bishies were having a long since overdue moment.
