Belle rolled her eyes at Dante. God. It wasn't like they were going to be stranded on a desert island at any stage. Even then, she was pretty sure she could call in a private jet to pick her up. Ooh, maybe she could call in food. Besides, when was she ever going to be in a situation where she had to cook to survive? How quaint Dante's life must have been. At his instruction to boil water, though, she hesitated. Water boiled at nearly exactly one hundred degrees Celsius, that she knew. She also knew that effervescence tended to occur when it boiled, which was often the most obvious sign of it. She'd boiled water at school, in the science labs for experiments, but she hadn't had to do it with a trangia and Fire type. Celisse looked rather put out that Marcus had set the fire, going over to inspect it. "For ******** sake!" she snapped, hurrying over and ripping her away from the flames. "No!" The Charmander just shrugged, wriggling out of her grip again and tumbling to the ground. Belle shook her head at the creature. Such a d**k. "I'll handle that," Dante said, reaching for his belt. "You'll need to find water sources while out on your trip, but if you've got a Water-type Pokemon on your team, it's much simpler." His Kingdra appeared suddenly in a flash of light, hovering effortlessly beside its trainer. Dante gestured to the bucket that sat by Belle's tent, wordlessly communicating with his Pokemon. Poseidon drifted over to the steel container, filling it in two seconds with a high-pressure jet of water before disappearing back into its Pokeball. "There we go," Dante said, hanging the bucket over the flames. "Now, we wait."
((trying to accelerate things. I figure we can do the mock battle while the water heats xD))

Max's stomach growled even more loudly, as he turned his head away from Belle. As far as Max knew, Joe's Krabby Shack was a five star restaurant. 'How long is this going to take?' Max thought as he watch the water form itty-bitty little bubbles. 'Maybe a battle will take my mind off of food.' Max looked towards Dante, who had recently shot down his idea for any restaurant. "Hey, Dante. How about a little battle while we wait?" Max said with a grin. Max had the type advantage. His Mamoswine and Dragonite could defeat any number of Dragons.

Dante shook his head, still watching the bubbling pot. "Not here on Route 1," he replied. "Too many new trainers in the area with too powerful of Pokemon. That's bound to cause problems. We'd need a designated battling arena for Pokemon like ours - or at the very least, a relatively deserted spot." Not to mention the fact that a battle like theirs would draw unwanted attention to himself - and to the Legendary Pokemon he was still sheltering.
"Belle, how is your training coming along?" Dante asked the new trainer, changing the subject. "You feel ready to challenge the gym soon?"

To be honest, Belle was only half-focusing on the conversation between Dante and Max. She knew, obviously, that the 'too powerful Pokemon' mentioned were hers, because, really, who else was there? She stared intently at the hot water, mentally hoping that all of it wouldn't evaporate before they got to use it. Angelina had taken an interest in it now, and the only thing keeping the Pokemon from dipping her now-absurdly long tail into the water was Lily, who was taking great pleasure in attacking the little blue floating device. While her methods were questionable, Belle decided to firmly believe that the Eevee was attempting to do good, so she left her to it. Dante reclaimed her attention when he spoke to her, and she shrugged, replying, "S'alright. Um, maybe. Soon. Celisse should be strong enough to fight, don't you think?" she asked, eying the Charmander who had decided it was a good idea to attempt to eat a log. Well, really, that kind of behaviour was just ridiculous, but she was getting tired of trying to fix the little bugger's problems. Dante raised an eyebrow at the vague answer. "You're going to want an Electric-type trained up for the Gym," he said, keeping a careful eye on the girl's Charmander. "Don't get me wrong, Celisse is quiet strong, but type advantages are key. The first leader specializes in Flying-types, so you'll want to use that Shinx you've got. Balance on a Pokemon team is key."
Dante paused when he realized that Belle had probably stopped listening a few seconds ago. "Here, how about this: while we're waiting for the water to boil, let's have a quick battle. I want to see how well trained your Pokemon are."

Belle nodded reluctantly, looking over at Lucius again. Brilliant. He was meant to be her powerhouse for the Gym. Personally, she would have thought that he would be encouraging her to work so that she wouldn't have to rely on just type advantage, but maybe this early on it wasn't required. Fair enough. Celisse, she knew, would want to be out on the field having a go at everyone else's Pokemon, so it might put a damper on her mood if the Shinx was doing all the battling, but that couldn't be helped. She smiled at her, even as she chewed moss. Oh, God. Surely the little thing would throw that up later? Disgusting. She shuddered. Realising that she'd gone off on a tangent (mentally, anyway), she resumed listening to Dante. She eyed him apprehensively, unsure. "A battle?" she asked sceptically. Like, a proper battle? Were her team even ready? Belle didn't doubt that Celisse would fly at the first creature she saw, and the others would have a natural survival instinct so they could obviously all fight, but she didn't want them to. What if they got hurt? She paused. That was what Pokemon battling was, though, wasn't it? Pitting innocent creatures against each other for amusement. That was what the Gyms were, no? He made no comment on it but found it strange that the girl seemed uncomfortable with her team fighting. Didn't she know that battles were part and parcel of being a Trainer? Even coordinators made their Pokemon battle for the experience it gave them, it was one of the quickest ways to mature a young Pokemon. "Has anyone else noticed that Dante's odd friend is no longer here," he asked. For a second he threw his senses to the air in an attempt to locate the man. There was a brief trail of the latent psychic energy inaccessible to nearly all living beings but for a select few leading back towards the city and no others but the Gym Leader and newbie Trainer were around. To remain safe Mewtwo didn't drop his illusion as he would have gladly done otherwise. This route was too active for carelessness.

Dante took a quick glance around the area at Mewtwo's comment. It seemed that Max had indeed left. "Didn't even say goodbye," he said mildly. Presumably the Elite Four member had something more important to do at that moment than hang around with a Gym Leader and a newbie trainer. He shrugged it off, returning his gaze to the pot of boiling water. Max would tell him later.
"Of course I'm sure," Dante replied to Belle's question. "There's no reason to be hesitant, it'll be fine. I'll make sure my Pokemon tone it down so that they don't hurt your team and we'll just cover basic tactics. Simple."

Belle turned when she heard Marcus's return, smiling pleasantly at him. When did he leave again? Oh, well. He was back now. She blinked at his comment, and did a full three-sixty, realising that Max had, in fact, walked off. Well. Alright, then. That was fine by her. She shrugged, resuming her conversation with Dante. She was still doubtful - what if the giant worm thing hurt little Gabby? She was so tiny and cute . . . she wasn't sure whether she was going to enter into the battle or not. Maybe. She'd see how she went in this situation first. "Okay." Belle had read a handbook on the way down about battle tatics, but had honestly absorbed little of it. It sounded too complicated, and a lot of it was based on spontaneity, which she hadn't had to rely on all that much in the past. She glanced back over at her team yet again, who looked more like children than fighting machines. "Are we doing this now?" "Might as well," Dante replied with a glance at the pot. It was boiling, but they could eat afterwards. The water might evaporate, but they had too much as it was. Losing a little wasn't too bad. "I'll start, okay?" He reached into his jacket for a Pokeball, his first selection already decided on. "I choose you, Dahlia!" In a burst of light his Dragon appeared, coiling around him protectively and eying Belle. "Just a spar, sweetheart," Dante whispered to his Pokemon. "So don't go all out, alright?"

"Alright," Belle nodded, eying the Dragonair somewhat warily. Right. Dragon types. They were weak to . . . stuff. Ice types? Yes, Ice types. She should know, she'd grown up around the bloomin' things. Unfortunately, she had no Ice type Pokemon, or at least one knowing an Ice type move, at this stage. She should have taken one from home. That was stupid. She bit her lip again, contemplating which member of her team she should use. After a few moments of indecision, she called over Celisse. The Charmander came over rather reluctantly, and she ushered her a bit away from the campsite, because, really, having a fight near good? Ew. "Alright, hun. Just a little fight, mkay? Use Smokscreen, please~ But don't just stay still, it knows where you are, move around . . ." She could have sworn she saw her Pokemon roll her eyes, but she wasn't sure. None the less, it inhaled, before opening her mouth and releasing a jet of black smoke, completely covering both the Dragonair and herself. Jared walked down the worn path of Route 1, his heavily calloused feet barely feeling the rocks and other debris that littered the ground. Jared let out a rare smile as he walked. He was finally on Route 1. It had been ages since he had been here, and it brought back quite a few memories. He was headed for Blyse city, to check out the new wave of trainers pouring into the region. It sure sounded more interesting than working out all day on Mount Somnia, and if the trainers proved to be boring, well, at least the walk had been a good workout. Suddenly, something caught Jared eye. A large cloud of black smoke hovered in the center of the path ahead, looking suspiciously like a Smokescreen.
"A pokemon Battle?" Jared thought as he squinted at the cloud. He was too far away to get a good look. Jared moved closer, pushing his way through some wild grass and startling a few Pidgeys into flight. Now able to see, Jared surveyed the scene, and found himself utterly surprised. You had your typical trainer on one side of the fight, all bones and no muscle, using a Charmander, one of the usual starting pokemon. She was the very picture of a newcomer starting out on her journey.
She appeared to be fighting a Dragonair, which was exceptionally strange to see on Route 1, and that stranger, that one with the ostentatious blue jacket and sporting that utterly ridiculous hair; was that Dante? Jared pushed his way through the rest of the grass and approached Dante. "Hey Dante!" He shouted. "Long time no see!"

The thick cloud of smoke that the Charmander made was certainly enough to obscure Dante's sight, but it wasn't nearly as thick as some that he'd seen. That'll come with time, the Gym Leader reminded himself. No need to make a mention of that. "Alright Dahlia, I want you to use a low-level Earthquake, okay?" he said to his Dragon, who was sitting still whilst coiled around him. "Just enough to make the Charmander feel it." The Dragonair gave him a look with her large, dark eyes that asked Dante about the wisdom of using a super-effective attack, but Dante refused to change the order. It was worth a little pain for Belle to find out how type matchups really mattered.
As the Dragon smacked her tail on the ground, sending earthquake-like vibrations through the earth in all directions, the sound of an outsider calling his name brought Dante out of his cocoon of concentration. The voice was somewhat familiar, though he couldn't quite recall to whom it belonged. Waving his hand in a vain attempt to clear the smokescreen, Dante was just able to make out a white shirt and brown hair through the haze. "Jarred?" Dante muttered to himself. The person looked somewhat like the Elite Four member, but the Arceus-dammed smoke obscured his view. "Who's there?" Dante asked, trying to wave the blackness away from his eyes.

The last thing Belle had been expecting that moment was a bloody earthquake. She promptly squealed, and fell on her a**. She cringed, hoping that the trees wouldn't start to fall on her. It took her a moment to realise that the ground had stopped trembling, so she cautiously stood, curious as to what the cause of the shake was. It was only when she saw Celisse sprawled out just in front of her, looking startled and rather pained, that she realised. Oh. That was embarrassing. The light from the Charmander's tail flame was lighting up her part of the smoke, which was annoying. "Sweetie pie, think you can get up?" Celisse gave her a dark look, but picked herself up again, apparently angered. "Oh, that's wonderful, thank you~ Okay, um, I don't know where the enemy is, so, just fire Embers in that general direction, got it?" She pointed to the other side of the smoke, where she could hear voices. Voices? Voices. Plural. Voices. She shrugged, not really caring, instead focusing on her starter, who paused for a moment before jetting out a stream of fire bolts at the smoke, shifting her head so that it was sweeping, and hopefully the worm wouldn't be able to dodge it.
