The State of Florida Rutilio Acosta Carriedo Grade 10 The Sunny Sophomore!
Florida isn't so much a place where one goes to reinvent oneself, as it is a place where one goes if one no longer wished to be found.
☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀ "I'm not that distracted," Florida argued although he'd once again started making paper flowers instead of pieces to add to the piñata. Once he realized what he was doing he stared at the flowers a moment before sheepishly sticking them to it as extra decoration. He had meant to do that. Totally. Yup.
"A-An Alfred one?" Rutilio repeated with some hesitation as he wondered what to make of that. Even though he recognized quite a few of America's faults and was frequently aggravated by them that was still his nation they were talking about. Well, since it was a personal grudge maybe it would be ok? Just so long as it was just the head then Florida could pretend it was a few Northern states he still harbored a small grudge against from the Civil War... Well, they had more or less buried the hatchet, but it would be nice to vent a few things, too.
"... Si, I think it would be fine as long as it's just the head and no glasses," Rutilio agreed, not wanting to mistakenly take out old grudges on an effigy of Texas. That would be a mean thing to do to a fellow former member of New Spain after all. ☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀ <> <> Florida has its own rhythm, too. People go to work, they watch their children learn and grow and start families of their own. They play in the sun and pass their lives enjoying the outsized blessings that make our state unique.

Juan MachadoThe Headstrong JuniorIt was awesome that they were going to make an Alfred piñata. Finally, he can smash his face in. "Oh? Who says we should only make one piñata? We can make an Alfred one and a classic rainbow horse one."{Translations: }(Out of Havana: )Cuban Republic Republica de Cuba

======+12+====== Romero wagged a finger reproachfully at the distractible gulf state even as he was relieved by Rutilio's reservations about an American effigy. A mere head was vastly easier than a body. Simplifying this pinata even more was the lack of glasses that resulted from Florida's second reservation. Plus, that way, he could blow up the head to make it hold even more goodies inside. On one hand, he was happy that the Alfred project was now doable; on the other, he was disappointed that the challenge of it all had suddenly disappeared.
On his tablet, the Venezuelan zoomed in on the head portion of the picture and continued working. In five minutes, he had the back of the head formed, and it was here he added Ruti's idly made flowers. He snickered at the feminine twist it gave the arrogant nation. Maybe he should take a picture and send it to the lead American?
"Ruti, if you're not going to make the pieces properly, at least you can make that stupid cowlick," he chided. What did he call it? Nantucket? A foolish name, if anyone asked Romero. He continued folding pieces of paper for the non-bespectacled Alfred head. Effigy. Oh well.

"Aye Aye Romero~!" She chimed in a song-song tone, her head tilting back and forth with the side of her hand pressed up against her forehead in a sort of soldier salute. It reminded her of the days when she was a pirate nation more than it reminded others of their military; plus the inclusion of rum and tequila in her system made her more fantasy based than reality.
Turning on the heel of her wedges, the bodacious blond then skipped out of the dorm room, opening and closing the door behind her with stride. After what seemed like a few minutes, the Brazilian was then back, opening the door with her free hand while she juggled a few boxes of the jello mix, the small easter eggs package, two more bottles of liquor, one tequila and the other a spiced rum, and a various assortment of items in which she would need to prepare for everything.
"I'm back~!" The vivacious young woman then cried, her cheeks still painted a rosy pink color, partially from her intoxication but also from the fact that she had been running around in four-inch heels. It was still amazing that she hadn't gotten a sprained ankle from a faulty step in these heels, but the way Juliana was proportioned along with her various skills made it so that this was one of the more "natural" things that she did. Well, that and soccer, but that wasn't the case at the moment. "It looks great~!" She lied effortlessly, not because it was bad, but because she had no idea what they were trying to create in the first place. Whenever she would visit the Spanish nations, they would have pinatas that looked like colorful horses or stars or other various designs, but this one...she'd have to wait until it was done to give it a proper compliment.
Making her way to the kitchen, the Brazilian bombshell then wrapped around her waist an apron that she had brought from her home country, which was a variation of her flag, which also caused her to beam with national pride. After she had turned on the stove so it could heat up, she immediately went to opening and pouring the contents of each flavor of jello mix and deciding which alcohol would best match it. "Oi! Meninos~" She called from the kitchen before she turned her head, flashing a playful smile as she giggled. She practically screamed Playboy model in the current clothes she were in, coupled with a tight-fitting apron that made certain *ahem* assets pop out more than usual. And her laidback and yet so playful demeanor didn't help her cause at all. "Would you rather have more tequila, more rum, or more vodka~?" She asked as she turned around completely to reveal herself mixing in a bowl of contents with a wooden spoon.

======+12+====== Romero smiled as he watched the Brazilian bounce happily about the kitchen, looking unconsciously sumptuous as usual. Like most of the South American family, she was quite handy in a kitchen. He suspected that Juliana enjoyeed this more because she didn't get to cook quite as often as, say, he or Luis did. Her persistent army of suitors frequently had her flying to their rooms for a taste of their varying cultural dishes. Of course, he was not technically a part of that army, for he had already offered her dinner with three.
Wait a minute! Romero frowned. He had already answered her question and made up for his lateness with an hallaca, but Juliana had never answered his invitation to dinner. Now who was being rude? He did acknowledge her current state of drunkenness, which he hadn't had when she'd asked her question of him and which definitely wouldn't ease up with the inclusion of alcoholic pinatas. Perhaps all she needed was a little reminding. Romero made a note to invite her again to dinner when she was less inebriated.
The Venezuelan looked up from his meticulous folding--which Ruti had finally decided to help with--when he heard the Brazilian girl inquire as to their booze preferences. "No vodka! Please!" he exclaimed, worried. Jello was more concentrated than fluid, and vodka worked more terrible feats on him than did Dos Equis. Romero definitely didn't want to embarrass himself again by eating vodka jello. Especially in front of Juan and Ruti, who he'd already embarrassed himself with just two hours ago.
Not only that, the dinner invitation, now that it would be issued late, would seem even more like an invitation to a date than it had been meant to. Although the Venezuelan would readily agree with anyone that his Portuguese neighbor was very lovely indeed, the lonely warrior in him didn't at all believe she was his by destiny. In fact, finding out if she was Luis' was the whole reason for his invitation. Romero and Juliana needed to be less than mildly intoxicated for the former to ask his question and be answered by the latter honestly and coherently. But the latter liked her drink just as much as the former did, and she didn't even seem to remember that Romero required a favor of her, reducing even further his chances of getting a sober answer.
But what if Ruti and Juan and the Europeans liked vodka and wanted some as well? Romero revised his refusal. "At least put the vodka in different colored eggs, hermana!" He knew that they weren't at this point related, but Portugal was Spain's distant cousin. Besides, if she was indeed hankering after Luis, Romero's friendly nickname for her might soon become a reality.

☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀ "It is better than being filled with hot air," Florida snickered before catching himself and coughing into his fist a bit, knowing as a Spanish-American he should show a little more pride than that. Still, Americans had a habit of teasing each other about their nation's reputation so it was a bit of a reflex in some ways. So long as it wasn't actually in front of Alfred since he could be a little sensitive it was usually fine.
"I think we should put everything in the jello!" Rutilio said happily without any concern for what the consequences might be. He had been through wilder things and the adventurous state was usually up for trying just about anything at least once. "I do not fear your Georgian vodka!" ☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀ <> <> Florida has its own rhythm, too. ======+12+====== Romero cringed. Why did it seem that the party was hellbent on embarrassing him? If vodka was to be included in these piñatas, so be it. He could take a shot of Russia's potato brew, but two was courting disaster. He had finished both the traditional horse piñata and the far less conventional American effigy piñata, and he sat back to admire his work. Rutilio's Disney paper had been inconveniently and variably patterned, and the Venezuelan had done his best to fold it so as to match the lead American's tones. The horse, thankfully, had no such restrictions. As a result, the horse was very typically colorful in the Spanish style, and Alfred's likeness, while recognizable, was more speckled than the actual man normally was. Romero decided to lather the sides in glue and add the hanging attachments before he filled the origami piñatas with candy. After all, he didn't want his 90-minute masterpieces to fall apart prematurely due to the weight. Seeing that Juan was occupied with Ruti, who had tucked the smaller Kartlos under his arm--a unique irony that the Venezuelan did not neglect to note--Romero stood, stretched his aching legs, which had fallen asleep from sitting too long in a cross-legged position, and brought the empty piñatas into the kitchen with him.
Juliana was still cooking, and a pile of jello-filled eggs, sorted by color into three groups, now cluttered the stove counter. Romero moved his supplies to another counter, safely out of the line of fire, and approached the girl. He tapped her on the shoulder. "These eggs look wonderful!" he exclaimed. "Which color is which? By the way, I finished the piñatas," he added, "and you can have the first look at them if you like."

Florida insisted as he continued to hold poor Kartlos against him even though the nation was undoubtedly several times his age. "He is impressionable and corrupt... er, wait..." Rutilio looked at his European friend and put a finger over his lips to shush him. "You must pretend you are innocent." He wanted to attempt making Juan think he had corrupted a pure soul although his "whisper" was purposely loud enough for everyone to hear.
The silly state turned his attention back to Cuba and went back to being over dramatic. "You fiend!" ☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀✿☀ <> <> Florida has its own rhythm, too.
