West stood near the back of the group of Amityville students, his arms crossed and an impressive mixture of irritation and confusion marring his features. He liked hurting and scaring people. Why should humans get special treatment?
"Yeah, what Lizzy said, uh, asked," he muttered, loudly enough for the DETHheads and human woman to hear. If there was no such organization, he was just going to keep smacking the s**t out of any Hunters he could get his hands on, thank you very much.

The Reaper gave Lizzy and West a sad look. "You can call them what they are; we're not the Boogeymen. You want to know if there are humans trying to stop the Hunters?"
"... No." Van shifted uncomfortably. "There's not many humans that can see us to begin with. The ones we are in contact with, we know where to find them, but they're scattered, and not the most influential humans around. They're just regular humans."
"But it would be terrible to ask them to do more than they already do. Humans don't dissipate like we do. They're not made of FEAR. We would likely be sending the only humans that can help us to their permanent deaths!" She had to take a moment there to take it back down a couple of notches. "And that's unacceptable."
"But don't worry, scarelings, we all want the same thing - to be safe. And we believe it begins with ending these cycles of needless violence. Things will get better." She smiled widely, though there was some uncertainty in her eyes and voice when she spoke the next word under her breath: "Eventually..."
Just what Amityville needed, a couple of human-hugging pacifists.

Israfel practically leaped from his spot. "SO WE CAN BE FRIENDS WITH THEM?" His wings went out happily. "OH JACK That is very good. I don't want them to hate us. Being scared is nice but not hating. That is mean. Oh Oh another question!" He waved his arms about. "What's your name Miss? Do you have lots of friends that can see us too? Do you ever visit Halloween? What is the human world like? You look really old do you make spookies I think you would be good at making spookies. My name is Israfel by the way. Your house is very nice did you decorate it yourself?"
Someone needed to stop Israfel. They really did. That or install an 'Off button' on him.

King was.. better. The cat other student was around other cat students and it helped mask the smell. Helped. He'd need to work on his self control. As things were explained to him, he nodded. It made sense but- Looking at the two graduates he frowned. His tribe had been in the decline for many years until they had elected to kill a human to renew the local fear of the 'winter wolves'. "Pardon, but what of tribes that suffer from sharp declines in FEAR harvesting?" He didn't want to offend but, as far as he knew, killing a human every few years was necessary. "If people do not believe in legends in that we exist, how might we gather fear? How does one scare a human when they have nothing to fear to start with?"
His arms crossed, though his voice held little emotion besides genuine curiosity. "My tribe suffered for many Octobers due to the land the elders scared upon having no humans fearing them from such passive manners as I understand it. Once a human fell to claws and fangs, they believed, and while we do not hunt humans, it has been deemed necessary of my tribe that when the FEAR wanes, so shall the restrictions. How else might my people combat such a thing?"

Emily, not at all reassured, began scoping out the tent. Maybe there was a closet in here. Maybe if she tried hard enough she could fit inside a drawer. Maybe, when the attack came, they'd go after the scarier looking students first.
Emily did her best to look pathetic.
It was pretty easy.
But maybe they'd go after the weaker looking students first. Like wolves.
Emily did her best to look scary.
...

Tears began to form in her eyes instead.

None of this was making very much sense to Shine. She vaguely understood the importance of some of these things from her classes, but her preference of hiding in her room rather than visiting dangerous, adventurous places didn't give her much of a drive to make sense of any of this. And she couldn't see the visitors over the crowd anyway, so...she moved to break away from the group, largely disinterested and very confused. It didn't take her very long to find something that (mostly) made sense - Emily! She might have smiled had she not realized that her bandmate appeared to be on the verge of tears. Were the too-many-other people bothering her, too? Concerned, she pulled the lollipop out of her mouth and urged her to take it, brow furrowed. This was crucial. Candy was the only way to stop the crying.

Taking the lollipop, Emily sniffled, and studied it. She gave the other ghoul a tremulous, slightly confused smile, and whispered quietly, "Oh, Shine...th-thank you!" That seemed a little inadequate, because candy was definitely of importance to her bandmate. Reaching into her skirt pocket, the witch dug around, and eventually pulled out a small can and gave it Shine. "For protection."The travel-sized can of Sparkle Spray was guaranteed to stop even the most horrible of nefarious assailants. Just point at their eyes and spray away, just be careful not to be downwind. Emily never left her room without at least three of them with an additional protection charm taped to each can. You can never have too much protection.

"............" Somehow this was sounding like a lot of bull to Roch. Something like "Let's be friendly to them and they'll be friendly to us!" just didn't WORK after being whipped across the back because you were trying to save your pals from the cages they stuck them in.
"Maybe it'd work with normal humans, I wouldn't know, this lady's the first I've met," he said quietly. "But the hunters are kidnapping us, sticking us in cages, and turning us into weapons. I REALLY doubt offering them a friendly smile and a handshake is gonna turn the situation around."

Back to the tent…and right next to a human.
Hel was…morbidly curious. Her first encounters with humans did happen to be Hunters as well…and she didn’t even get all that close to them. The reaper’s face was blank as she shuffled closer and closer to the fortune teller, who was apparently harmless? Hel wasn’t terribly alarmed at the moment. There was only one human and a room full of Halloween students. Was it bad she wanted to touch it—er…her? As is touching the fortune teller would help to alleviate some of her curiosity…
She listened quietly to the appearance and exchange of the other two beings that entered the room, her brows furrowing. Human-hugging, huh? She could agree with what some of her peers were saying though. She didn’t believe in mercy or kindness for Hunters. “I do not believe confrontations with false reapers is a matter of ‘needless violence’…” Hel didn’t like that phrase, not one bit. “We are all fighting just to survive, and I will be damned if I lower my weapon to try and reach a compromise with them, because I know I will be struck down in return. Even worse is being turned into a tool.” The ghoul crossed her arms.

Nuru followed the group obediently into the tent. At first he just assumed the woman was a reaper... but then it seemed to.. not be the case at all. Rather than acting furious or frightened about it. He tried to get right in the woman's face.
"What's it like being a human? Does it hurt?" A silly set of questions perhaps but he mentally classed humans about where humans might generally have classed zombies. Only without the brain eating chaos.

"Ssssshe'ssss a fortune teller," Biskoto hissed, nudging the reaper's cheek.
"Intriguing, isn't it?" He grinned, walking up to the lady, who already had a crowd forming around her; she looked like a reaper. Or do reapers just look human? After all that he had heard about 'hunters being real', this was becoming quite an... Informative class. A class he was glad he had decided to attend. There was also DETH, an organization he had heard of, but... He had also heard that they could be considered extremists, of a different sort when compared to the Horsemen, of course, but still extremists.
"Prey tell, what is the human perspective of fortune telling?" He dipped his head in greeting; he was interested, so very interested to know how the future could be such a source of fear for humans - he was told by the elders that they had a lot of fears due to their fragile and short lives, but to hear it from a human itself!
Biskoto, on the other hand, gave her reaper a gentle squeeze before lowering her head to the human's eye level, "Sssorry, but how may we addressss you?"
"Ah, Vanth, was it?" He turned to look at the reaper, "Speaking of hunters, what is your organization's view on them? You must realize that while they are 'fragile, susceptible to permanent death' humans, I had heard of how... Violent they could be," At this, he shot a quick glance at Hel, who was the first to make sure that he was warned about them, "And as you know, violence is hardly step one to the peace you were talking about."
Meanwhile, Lizzy just looked really disappointed at Van's answer. Really, really disappointed.

Malodore was thoroughly perplexed. Of course, humans weren't all precisely the same, but it hadn't really thought about that beyond Hunters on one angry side and then the faceless mass of mankind on the other. "So we just kill the ones that are trying to kill us, si? It's clear that these Hunters are the ones upsetting the natural balance. With them removed from the calculations, everything returns to the way it should be. That's fair, is it not?"
It was fine with this as a compromise.
Anna, meanwhile, just watched with a combination of awe and confusion.

The only human in the room was listening to the banter back and forth, though her smile did falter for just a second at Roch's outburst, giving the student a rather sympathetic glance. Her voice was slow and quiet. "It is true, Hunters are humans like us, but is it wrong to say that one person, or a very small group of people, do not represent all of us as humans? Most of us mean no harm, and I do not think the answer to violence is more violence."
< Fighting is not wrong. > The Professor suddenly piped up, looking straight towards the students. < If someone attacks you, of course you can attack back, but then you and they are on the same level, are you not? > A pause. < Fundamentals of Fear is a class to teach you where Fear comes from, and why it is important to preserve the one thing that keeps us alive: humans. If we preserve them, they will in turn, be an unlimited energy source for us! However, if we continue to harm the humans, then there is no reason as to why they would not fight back. The cycle will continue on then, until everyone is exhausted or dead. >
They moved their head for a second towards the human and the other two members of D.E.T.H. < May, Vanth, Argyle, thank you for your time. Our lecture hour is almost up, and I still need to escort the students back to Amityville. I'll see you again sometime. >
With that, they jumped off their perch on the table and towards what seemed like an ordinary curtain wall, that is until they snuck under it. < This way students, you can take the time to think about what happened when you get back. >
The second the students arrived back in the auditorium, the professor was gone.OOC - DETH can now ICly be contacted by any time by pming the THIS IS HALLOWEEN mule asking for PRPs if students wish to learn more about preserving Humans. There may be also the opportunity for future DETH related ORPS! Feel free to post a reaction post as your student returns - Anyone who posted here gets +2 bonus rp points for it being a gm rp automatically, and +1 extra if it went over 800 words!

Preserving humans so that they could continue to be frightened and supply them with an endless source of Fear? She was fine with that. Telling them not to kill humans because that would be a cause for retaliation? She was fine with that too. In fact, the lesson that was being taught here was perfectly fine.
Except that there was no way in HELL that Edel was going to just sit back and do nothing about the Hunters. Even the members of DETH have admitted – they were the ones disturbing the balance. The frost demon had never taken issue with the normal humans, even after that field trip. After all, they were just harmless sources of Fear, as the professors of this institution were so keen to emphasize on.
< If someone attacks you, of course you can attack back, but then you and they are on the same level, are you not?>
Those words from the professor resounded in her head, annoying her greatly. It wasn't as simple as that. Not when some of them were ...
Alright, she'd admit it. She had a personal grudge against the hunters.

Hrm. Malodore was deep in uneasy thought as it arrived back in the auditorium. What the Professor had said made a great deal of sense. It was basic science: if you preserved your resources and used them in a sustainable fashion, the result was more resources for all. The humans were their own little emotional ecosystem -
- but that didn't mean for one instant that the Hunters deserved any type of mercy. They had broken away from their proper, rightful role, for whatever reason. The balance was in danger, and as far as the plague doctor could see that imbalance was entirely the Hunters' fault.
So not all humans were Hunters. Va bene, it knew this already. It would be more than happy to divide humans up. Not-Hunter: not to be harmed. Hunter: destroy on sight. It was both satisfying as a means of vengeance and the proper response to a threat. The scientific response to a variable that was wrecking an experiment was to remove the aberrant variable.
It was very simple, really.
..........
Anna returned flush with her success; she'd scared someone! Two someones! Really honestly scared them, and if they couldn't see her to begin with then it didn't matter that she wasn't terrifying to look at. She had options! She wasn't doomed!
No, for the first time Anna was actually excited about her future scaring prospects. And the fine political points of D.E.T.H.'s discussion with them had flown right over her little pointy-hatted head.
