"...Oh dear," she murmured, her eyes sparkling as she nosed at Storm. "You look like someone dunked you in a mud puddle."

Even at the best of times Fix moves with a bounce and skip that suits the joy but not the grace of the Acha. At the moment the vertical motion is somewhat amplified by the effects of a strange beverage peddled to him by two bucks (what jolly fellows and a funny pair, he thought, a little giddily; a yellow-and-teal one that kept sadly flirting with the ladies and failing and a mud-colored, glowing one that hadn't even bothered and had two does at each hoof).

Fix has a goal: he wants someone to listen to. There is nothing Fix likes more, and especially nothing a drunken Fix likes more, as he is discovering, than a good chatterer. And so it is with some joy that he stumbles on Never Grow Up, Re-Wind, and Blue Streak: the former looks to be in an amusing state of distress, and the latter two not only attractive to look at (but then, everyone is attractive to look at in Fix's eyes) but also obviously veteran talkers. On a rolling swagger he surfs the crowd closer to the trio, singing out a joyful "hello, ladies!" in a voice that sounds like it ought to come from a colt's mouth. "And gentleman too! You are now permitted to start the party."

And I think I might've made one of the kimeti mad." But it won't bother him for long, truth be told -- he will shove that thought aside and wheel around, trying to get the worst of the gloppy mud off of him. But -- really. What were they thinking, holding this on a floodplain? Mud and water everywhere!

"What do we do now? I can't dance or sing." He as a good leader and often the one who mediated all of the disputes between the siblings, but that was .. about it. "I could run laps around them as they sing, but I doubt that'd be appreciated."

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.A tall kimeti, dour of face, has been observing the goings-on of the Games. Though he is long-legged and with a sleek black hide, he is no athlete. That much might be obvious in how he picks through the water, avoiding the muddy or deep patches, and is fastidious about keeping his gleaming black hide as clean as he can. He is somewhat distinctive, in the crowd; there are few kimeti as tall, with long, swept-back horns that only add to their height -- and with glowing violet marks across their chest that pulse in time with their heartbeat.

Eclipse, hearing the call for poets and singers, snorts softly to himself -- he can do better than some newcomer from the desert. What is there to wax poetic on in the desert? Sand? Sky? A lot of nothing -- not anything the swamp and its endless supply of shady niches, cypress knees, lurking caiman, and some of the most beautiful kimeti can provide--

Eclipse will silently glide between kimeti and kiokote, up to the rock in the middle, and blink up at the -- what was she. The kiokote had called her Red-stained Blossom.

"Are you a competitor?" The kimeti asks, in a mellifluous voice.

We lost you for a bit, or maybe you lost us.” She watched Guide’s greeting and then moved in to give Travels a nice headbutt of greeting while his head was still lowered. “Good job kitty.”

Her attention shifted to the introduction of the Acha, and the fine voice that rang out in song. That was exciting too! Buuut… she tilted her head towards the buck. “I don’t sing very well.” She nodded with a solemn expression to confirm it as the truth. “So we can sit out of this out.”

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."A real, live, Acha," Re-wind breathed in awe as the loping newcomer gatecrashed their little gathering. Not that she had ever seen a fake, dead, Acha - but she'd never dreamed that all of a sudden, one of their brand-new desert cousins would come running up to them. A cheetah, a Kiokote, and an Acha in one day? Re-wind was in heaven.

"Oh, oh," excitedly, she trotted around the dimunitive creature, taking in every detail. From what she had heard, the pair of horns curved around its head indicated it was a buck - was it full-grown? The pitch of his voice suited a younger stage, but nothing about his demeanour did, and his size did not sound far from reports of the adults. Unlikely, too, that a colt would travel all the way from the desert; perhaps all Acha had voices so high - were these appropriate questions to ask upon a first meeting? What a beautiful rainbow tail! "Is it true," she finally burst out, unable to hold back inquiry on the rumour that had most tickled her mind since hearing of the new arrivals, "that out in the desert, Acha can go for days without water?!"

Forgotten Feathers had been rather down when she realized they not only been late for the race but that they completely missed the race on all levels, but thankfully Albatross was there with her. The pale doe sighed lightheartedly, lowering her head lightly against the back of Albatross for a moment until her ears perked back up and she withdrew her head. Perhaps instead of flying she could sing like a bird instead, and even better she could do it with her new found companion!

"Would you?" She asked with wide blue eyes. How exciting!

Not quite as exciting as when the doe had seen the pink acha in the corner of her eyes, nearly jumping back in surprise. What is that! It looked so different from her and Albatross. Not to mention all the kiokote that were running around but Forgotten Feathers so rarely seemed to look at the ground that she hadn't noticed.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.A competitor? Caught in the moment, Rouge at first thought he meant for the beautiful doe, and the killing thirst frothed in her throat - then she remembered the contest. And good thing too - that could have been bad, like that time back in the desert with the buck; that was such a pretty little thing we were fighting over, but it had you delivering fresh hares for a month while he was healing up, Rouge, old girl...he was lucky you left enough of him to heal, though. Heh.

She relaxed; the contest back in her mind, some of the swagger dissipated, and the tease returned, "Depends on who's asking - but always for you, tall, dark, and handsome." And very handsome he was too - what a bounty of delights the Swamp had hitherto proved!

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Tottering through the crowd in high spirits with a roguish grin on his face was an exceptionally debonaire and refined (read: slightly sleazy and rather definitely womanizing) buck whose name was simply Yes. High on the success of his most recent wooing, on the energy of the crowd, and most importantly on some lovely little plant or other, he seemed to be floating several inches off the ground and his vibrant coat seemed aglow, and he was shaking slightly, his tail furiously a-twitch and a-quiver.

So many people to meet! So many newcomers to the swamp, both in the Kiokote - though they were perhaps not so new anymore, almost entirely integrated really - and in the REALLY new and exciting Acha, another of the other eggs from the old stories. Oh how their lovely coats shined, and how they sang and danced and made merry! Yes had seen one brilliantly pink and yellow doe by the weed-sellers, in particular, who had quite won his heart. Yes had been watching her from afar, and looked forward to seeing her dance in the competition, as he was sure she would, given her earlier display. Someone else seemed to be putting the moves on her, though - or she was putting the moves on him? Maybe Acha liked it that way. Yes thought that he might like it that way.

But the pink Acha would have to wait. She was obviously busy, Yes had to remind himself. He decided, then, to look more closely at those surrounding him and perhaps find someone to strike up conversation with, or bother, or run against in a small race of their own. He felt alive, electric, ready to fight.

Giant Moth, Ochre records the name in her memory, determined to seek out more. "Can anyone tame them?" She asks, before picking up her brush. This one is somewhat large and gets dipped into the white paint. Just as Ochre is about to touch brush to back, she hears Rogue call out. Pulling back she turns to watch the pink Acha, torn between staying and joining in. She can't dance or sing well, but if all the Acha join in maybe no one will notice. Just as Ochre decides to join, a Kimeti joins Rogue and a look Ochre has seen before fills the pink doe's eyes. Better leave her alone.. Ochre thinks.

She turns back to the blue doe before her and gets to work. Carefully she draws out a representation of the moth's wings, starting at the doe's shoulders and coming down her sides. These she fills in all white, then circles around to do a repeat of the pattern on Glow's other side. The whole process includes much stretching, Ochre should have asked Glow to kneel. Ochre also circles Glow during the second wing pattern, trying to match them up. And, of course, she stops to study the moth. "Okay, that needs to dry before I can finish." She says after putting down the brush.

Turning to Searching, Ochre gently touches his sides. "Dry enough." She says, then turns to his painting. Picking a medium brush Ochre dips it in the purple and starts tracing flowing lines over the red ochre. It does not show up exactly how she wanted, but it's too late to stop so she continues on. The lines do not have any rhythm, they simply flow however she sees fit to put them. Ochre does restrain herself, though, and does not add too many. Just a few along Searching's flanks and randomly down legs. One leg gets the lines all the way to his hoof, the other three the lines stop between knee and ankle. She backs up to look at her work. "Looks good.. Oh damn! I should have had you kneel first, for the orange. Well, if you don't mind waiting for the purple to dry I can still do it." It's not an outright question, but it's plain that Ochre wants Searching to wait so she can finish. She won't push him, though, if Searching and Glow have other things to do.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. The tall kimeti permits himself a smile at the pink Acha -- and then tosses dark hair out of his face. A smile is clearly not an expression he wears often, but it suits him; he goes from merely 'handsome' to 'striking.' No female of any type has paid him attention in more than a season, and Eclipse is vain -- he definitely cannot help the sudden bout of preening he goes through.

"I am here to test my humble talents, though I admit they are inferior compared to your own. I am a poet; I have heard that some regard me as possessing some talent." Eclipse grins, suddenly, and then tosses his head back. "Perhaps we will see, if the judges indulge me."

Catching Fire had heard the rumors, of course; he had wanted to be the very first to arrive to what was likely going to turn into a wonderful party, but of course things had interfered, and he'd been hung up... User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

But now, he had a selection of wonderful things to juggle in front of him, and made his way through the throngs of kimeti and kiokote, bouncing a smooth, round river-pebble first off of his nose, then his rear, then then turning around in a full circle while it was in the air, to kick it back up again with a back hoof -- after he tired of juggling, he balanced it on the point of his nose as he made his way through the crowd. Any kimeti or kiokote who happened to watch him pass were tipped broad winks, or jaunty grins; more than once he kicked up his heels or spun in a circle, quickly enough that it seemed the rock should have gone flying!

Leaping up onto the rock, placing the pebble between his feet, he blinks at all of the acha -- and then grins, wildly. "--you're all here!"

Fix clearly enjoys the attention. As it to make himself a better specimen, he draws himself upright, arches his neck just so, and daintily lifts one hoof from the ground. This causes him to totter drunkenly and so he replaces it with some care.

"Is it true that you have to drink every day?" Fix returns, carefully cultivating a mystified air. He's already spent some time socializing with the bucks selling alcohol, and having gotten answers to his questions he decides now is a good time to appear informed and superior.

User ImageUser ImageThe pink and blue cheetah remained docile as the doe circled her. Such pretence! If he was in the proper state of mind to notice, Baby would be scowling at Windfurl. Instead, the kiokote blinked a few times at Re-wind's words and nodded.
"I-I'm fine... just feeling a bit dizzy."
"Yes, yes. I think will sit downt,"
he said to Blue Streak, uncermoniously plonking himself down, "thank-you."

Never Grow Up barely had time to notice Lull's absence before a jaunty looking Acha joined their group.
Even in his distressed state, he couldn't help but stare in awe. Such a pretty little thing! Look at those horns. And that tail! And he was so... so... drunk?!User Image

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. The Acha was reeling around most elegantly - was this a form of dance? Did they incorporate their famous dancing right into their common movements? Questions upon questions bubbled through Re-wind's racing mind, but when she was asked one, to reply was almost automatic: "It depends on your definition of drink - kimeti do require a certain volume of regular water intake for optimum functioning, but if to 'drink' is limited to direct consumption of liquid, then it could be said a kimeti need hardly drink at all, if such means be necessary; much of the moisture an average kimeti requires can be obtained from an enterprising diet. However you approach the matter though, it is likely true that our bodies are hardly as suitable for dry living as yours, and most of us will drink readily of clear water. Certainly I myself would be rather miserable if I could find no pool to lap from! I have heard that in the long stretches of desert sand, cacti are your only recourse for moisture - oh, tell us, how does a cactus taste? Is it like the plants, or fruits, we have here in the swamp?"

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show. Ghost Orchid, experimenter and observer and maybe a mommy, had not really planned on attending the massive party that was being talked about all over the swamp until a thought occurred to her: There would be Kimeti and kiokote she could interview and maybe observe after they consumed her mushrooms. Never one to give up a chance to see what mushrooms did to people, especially after that thing with Shadow and the Soul, she had picked a shellful of mushrooms of all colors and set out. Now if she could just find someone interested in her mushrooms...

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show."Right, leave your boss to deal with the Doom-doe, that's a good idea. Maybe you should warn whomever, though. Just for, you know, safety's sake? Cause I don't think she's going to be alone when she shows up next time." Mead actually liked this buck, and she really did want him to survive, and somehow, the doe with the name of Doom did not inspire confidence in his continued existence. At all. Some buck or doe she didn't know, on the other hoof, was a different matter. But if they had been warned, well, then they had been warned, and any resulting damage (or death) was not her concern.

Click to show.Never noticing when Rouge's dog left, Charm had observed the race and the resulting disasters with wide, amused eyes, especially when the grey buck went hooves over head and the grey and orange-red one ran into the tree. Both of these bucks, she felt, could probably use some good luck, so she bid quick good-bye to her stiff brother, promising to see him again soon, and trotted swiftly through the throng to the where the first buck had wobbled over to the other by the tree. "Well, my bucks, while that was a spectacular ending to your ill-timed joining of the race, I think you need some help."

User Image The doe's headbutt caught him by surprise -- mouth dropping open as he inclined his head, flowers falling to the ground. Without moving his head, his eyes dropped to take in the small petals and he thought it was a shame they'd be trampled now. His attention rose back to the doe, a nodding motion accompanying the simple sentence, "I'm always lost." He smiled as though pleased by that.

User Image A stifled choking mew could be heard (apparently the cat understood that word and knowing how true it was found the feline trying not to snicker in amusement -- or maybe he had a hairball) as the not-kimeti were revealed to be Acha. Did that mean they were not babies?

"My mother can sing," Travels interjected and then paused, "or maybe that was her hound..." His brows seemed to furrow as he attempted to suss out the memory, faded as it was, before shaking his head. No matter. A grin spread over his mouth suddenly, "Cat can sing."

Guide seemed to know that word, too, for his body quivered. The eyes narrowed and mouth opened partially to allow a decidedly not friendly yowl to venture from its throat. He did not seem to find amusement in the idea like the buck did. And he was not going to sing; he wasn't.
