Here's a question, why would GW provide two armies that are very similar in the starter set? If you look back it has always been a space-marine army and an army that is different, e.g. Orks, Nids or Dark Eldar. That way it gives the new player a taste of two different playing styles. I question the validity of the rumours that CSM and DA will both be in the starter set as their battle styles share too many similarities.
Do I have a point or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Solid rumours by people who haven't been wrong before indicate so far that the Chaos forces will be a diverse bunch made up on Traitor Legionnaires, human cultists / renegades and a Chaos Dreadnought. It could very well be that the Dark Angels side of the set is made up in such a way to further set them apart as well. Who knows, maybe they'll field a Ravenwing or Deathwing themed force just to showcase how certain new rules work?

Kaori Kapoigne Think of it like this, they've never done a starter set before with two armies of beakies. emotion_awesome well, there were starters with orks, dark eldar, tyranids and orks again before and I guess chaos marines are sorely missing being such iconic villains of the 40k universe... tau and eldar are somewhat "middle of the road" armies with saves around 4+, plus being something of a "good guys" they dont create the iconic "heroes vs villains" feel, so I guess it is.., warp time?

How about this tho, the starter seems to have something for everyone: it has spiky beakies, a spiky dreadnought and puny spiky humies with puny weapons.

Sir Kyle Aziz But I want Tau. ): No beakies or spikey beakies. It looks like we will have to stick with Forge World and kit-bashing to get anything new for a while, friend. I'd love me some Tau as well, but it sadly seems to not be happening anytime soon.

Tau aren't on the menu until further notice I'm afraid, all we've got going on now are Dark Angels, 6th edition, Chaos Space Marines, the Empire and Warriors of Chaos. There has also been talk of the following armies getting a release wave: Tyranids (!) & Necrons.
Also, there are strong rumours that Blood Bowl will be getting special treatment this year, with not two, but four plastic teams included in the box.
