Mr Shinjiko
Noire, considering they seemingly allowed both I'd have both handy before a match. Unless the judges come in and say otherwise.

I don't think my opponent has figured out I'm wearing armor yet. It's something I'd been doing since 1993 - get an outfit that looks anachronistic - like a 1920s PI suit or a Meiji Era kimono, but make the thing out of some exotic armor. I think I got that from doing lots of Cyberpunk.

I'd have to talk to Vin about that, since he looked that over.

Since Spectra is more of an industrial/sport thing not typically used with making a silk garment, I don't think it'd make much sense for that as a garment. But I don't know how it'd be concussion resistant. If its lose or it moves and isn't padded/heavy, you'll still take damage of someone punches you as far as I'm concerned. "Resistant" clothing can often be used the wrong way.

As for spidersilk,

Wikipedia
Due to the difficulties in extracting and processing substantial amounts of spider silk, there is currently only one known cloth made of spider silk. It is a 11-by-4-foot (3.4 by 1.2 m) textile with a golden tint that has been made in Madagascar in 2009. It required four years to extract silk from over one million golden orb spiders.

Not saying you wouldn't be able to have something like that made, but I'm sure it'd be worth five gold mines and the mountains on top of them. But that isn't the issue, either.

it'd probably be resistant to piercing, but since it moves like silk it wouldn't make you resistant to the damage of a pierce. It'd keep you from being entirely impaled by a normal attack, though, which has its uses. However, if someone used a reasonably powerful piercing attack to pierce through, they could effectively do it.

Of course, that would simply be the definition of "pierce resistant", as opposed to "pierce immune". So yeah, spider silk probably would be the better choice.

Dude, this is Gaia. I've used spidersilk and assumed it's an uncommon-but-not-rare substance. Hell, I've seen a lot of people use spidersilk, but they use it more for bulletproof armor than for piercing protection.

See, now that makes more sense, being bullet proof armor.

It'd work in such so that the bullets wouldn't penetrate you and kill you, but the impact would still get you and do damage, which allows for fighting against firearms to be fun.

Also:

Bullet-proof/resistant =/= piercing proof.

SILENCE, KB, YOU'RE CANADIAN AND THEREFORE WRONG.

>.>

Also, we're arguing about mass-producing what is basically fantasy elements on an anime site. I don't expect ANYTHING to make sense, I just want it to be that fine balance between "awesome" and "believable".

That's fine. I'm just saying if you want to make a bulletproof vest you're probably going to want to make it thicker than a silk shirt.

...no matter what that shirt is made of. Think like throwing a ball against a hanging sheet. Without the proper support to give the sheet its strength ( and assuming the spider silk doesn't stretch, which apparently it does well ) the ball is just going to keep going and pull in on the corners.

Like jumping on a trampoline.

You ever stood under a trampoline and had someone jump on it? That's what's going to happen to you if you try and wear silk armor.

Oh, well, yes, if it's that thin then I'm going to laugh at you and say PHYSICS SAYS ******** YOUR BULLSHIT.

I can characterwank about how I currently go about it, but I doubt anyone wants to read that. ^.^

Erm? I have an issue regarding my fight.

Would it be over at the point of my character's unconsciousness? Because he's been beaten. Or does my opponent get another free groin shot that Haku will be forced to recover through even though he was already down and out?

I wasn't denying that either. Like I said, you could arguably make a fantasy silk vest that is resistant to piercing attacks or bullet wounds, but if its thin enough that it moves with you, it isn't going to outright stop it from hurting you.

It is as you said. If someone's wearing pierce-resistant cloth that can take shape, that shape will pierce into the body with the cloth. The cloth won't tear, but that doesn't mean flesh won't pierce.

But for the sake of fantasy, you tweak that such so that it works to keep people from getting a bullet stuck in their lung or completely run through while not having to prevent them from taking damage. That being said, if they were to treat it completely like a bullet-proof vest, that'd be doing it wrong.

If you're KOed then your fight is over. Period. If he's unconscious I dont think he'll even feel a hit to the nuts. But if you're out and your opponent is trying to castrate you or something, that's a bit of a problem. >>

I ugh...

My whole fight has been a huge issue.

Whatever though. At first I was just gona find out if it would be legal to have one of my characters who was spectating step in to stop this from happening; but if it doesn't count I'll just ignore it.

Thank ya sir. ^_^

When are the fights that have reached the time limit actually being called to a close?
