When he stumbled forth, his first few steps were unsteady – his wings seemed too big for his petite body, a ridiculous thing on such a little dragon. Whomever he Impressed to was in for a lot of Sharding work, whomever it was had better be ready. At least he was less covered in sand then his kin… it made it easier for the tiny, proud silver to shuffle through the sands. He didn’t even look over at the girls as his gaze fixed on the boys, searching… appraising, perhaps even comparing. It was a long trek for the young dragon… long indeed and he stumbled, fell more than once. Each time he rose, he took a moment to brush the sand from his shiny hide before he continued on, only one thing on his mind: His. His was nearby. Somewhere. Not too far… it was like a game of hot and cold with the best piece as the prize. He could feel the ‘be mine’ emanating from every single person and he buoyed his spirits, gave him energy and he lifted his head high as he finally made it to within arms reach of the boys’ line. Blue gaze swept the line, once, twice… lingered first here, then there. And then… ah! Head up, Therionmine! Back straight! Your Cavenath will not be seen with a ragamuffin! Rearing up, he flapped his still-wet wings in one last provocative show and then fell to all fours, dizzy and overtaxed. His was there… His would tend this marvelous work of art. All was well. Eirlyn chuckled as the tension of the Hatching grew strong then snapped and the weary numbness settled in its stead. The Hatching was over… new Riders had joined the ranks… and everybody could get some more sleep. “Congratulations, new Riders! But seeing how it’s the middle of the night, your Feast will be held tomorrow evening.” She doubted very many of the new Weyrlings would get much sleep as it was… she could remember the excitement of that first day. “Well done, Mine, well done. “ She patted Feynath’s shoulder as the senior riders ushered the Weyrlings away and gave them the quick and dirty summary they’d need for the coming day.

The little guy stumbled once, twice...but never looked away from the male candidates. Each step the silver took brought Therion's heart-beat racing that much faster; he didn't hear Sharajan's muttering (though had he, he likely would have punched him)...as a matter of fact, Therion heard nothing but the pulsing of blood in his ears.
At least, until someone called to him.
Head up, Mine! Back straight! Your Cavenath will not be seen with a ragamuffin!
With his heart in his throat, Therion moved to the weary puddle of dragonet and fell to his knees before him, rough fingers gently seeking out that gorgeous little head with the dark markings.
Food now, Mine. Yours is so very tired and hungry...
"Mine, Cavenath..." He rumbled the words and the picked up the silver - so heavy, even for being so small - so he could haul the beast to the feeding tables.
Once more, Ther's stature held him in good stead - it wasn't easy carting Cavenath over, but he did it while the dragon crooned to him sweetly and cajoled him for food...all the while telling Ther to look more presentable!

It seems the silver had chosen a boy just like she thought. With the Weyrwoman announcing the hatching feast being held tomorrow evening Wykla knew the hatching was over. Well of course it was over; there was no more eggs. Her head hangs slightly from exhaustion.
A grimace crosses her face as she limps slowly across the sands. Oh great. Now that they're all riders there will be less of us to do chores. I bet I'll get stuck doing all the dirty ones. She calls ahead to Boreal to make room on the bed for her.

Zeren dropped to the ground as the silver Impressed....someone else, cthe sands were hot but not as hot as his crushing disapointment, he knew that there would be other Clutches, but he'd so desperatley hoped for this to be his only, he knew what his parents would say. and he didn't want to tell them, he supposed he could lie, but that would get found out. He numbly stood, then left the grounds, Viska popping from between sensing his sadness she landed neatly on his shoulder as he dragged himself to the barracks, she crooned to him, not understanding why her boy was sad, not when he had her.

M'tais watched the last of the boys carrying over his dragon and arched an eyebrow at him. It wasn't wholly unusual...save that most Impressed youth couldn't cart around a dragon, even newly hatched. He shrugged it off and gave the newcomers tips for their dragons too until he and the senior riders got the kiddos where they needed to be.
They'd need all the rest they could get too, because he would not take it easy on them, no sirree!

Inaari was content to sit resting against her beautiful new companion, cooing softly at the gold while feeding her strips of the juicy meat that had been prepared for the hatchlings. Ianath was eating her fill in a proper and prim manner, very concerned for how she appeared to the others around her. The faceted red eyes had calmed to a vibrant blue-green shade that reminded the girl of the coastal waters she'd seen once before in her life. They weren't still though, and were making critical comments in Inaari's mind about the decorum and behavior of the dragonets around them. More than once the Holdbred girl had been forced to reach out and restrain her little dragon from marching over to an errant green and pulling the food away from her eager nose.
Everything somewhat halted, however, when Therion came over carting a small but brilliant silver dragonet. Being not of the Weyr, Inaari had had no idea of what had happened and hadn't paid attention to the crimson and black that'd come in with their new riders. After all, she had Hers, and Ianath had been curiously uninterested in the Atypicals. But this was Therion and she'd known he would Impress!
Rising from her spot on the floor, Inaari sprang up and gestured for her friend to come over. She moved from foot to foot almost impatiently, and Ianath was not pleased. Inaarimine! That is not good! Stand still! Also included was the thought that it was only a silver, and thusly not very important. This boy did not look good enough for Hers, so why was Inaari paying attention to him?
Inaari mostly ignored this, but did stop fidgeting, only because she hopped up and threw her arms around Therion in a massive hug. "I knew it! I knew you would do it! He's so precious, did you see my Ianath! I'm a goldrider, Ther, and you've got a silver and I KNEW IT!" Her voice rose in volume and pitch until she was all but squealing and clinging to the glassworker. Ianath only snorted and returned to her food. She was mentioned, and would be admired, and everything was as it should be. The dragon was mollified, at least!

Once the silver had found His, Rhilira felt much better. It had been a successful hatching, and all was well. She had Galianth, and was thankful that this time around, she had Impressed. Life couldn't get better than it was right now. Even if she was no longer with her family's train, she had left it with purpose, because a dragon had chosen her. Galianth, I'm glad you chose me...
Galianth looked at her and cocked her head to the side. You are Mine... I could not choose another. the statement was flat - Rhilira had stated the obvious, and Galianth didn't understand the importance, but didn't mind Hers being silly.
---
Kentori grinned as the final dragonet Impressed - a silver! The girl who had Impressed the queen seemed very excited at the result... They clearly knew each other. Hey Lalaith, everything's over. The last two hatchlings were Crimson and Silver.. And they both Impressed!
Lalaith stirred and nosed him as she awoke. I'm glad you're happy, Mine, but why do you care?
Because... he responded with a gentle nudge on her head, I don't want any dragon to go between.
There was a pause, and Lalaith rumbled agreeance with the statement. Do we get to meet the others? Because we must show them that we are the best!

It didn't take him long to spot Inaari and her dragon, brilliant golden hide caught the eye pretty easily and it didn't hurt that she'd been gesturing for him to come to her. Therion settled his vain little dragon down (even unfed, Cavenath was a hefty little guy!) somewhat close to her so that they could talk while their bonded filled their bellies.
Mine, why are we near that one? Ianath is pretty but hers is so common!
Ther ignored that comment and gave Cavenath some choice pieces of meat before turning to speak with the freckled girl -- just in time to have her throw herself on him in an exuberant hug. Surprised, but pleasantly so, Ther put his arms around Inaari and carefully whirled her around before setting her feet back to the floor with a big, goofy grin. "I told you, but I guess so did Ianath." He chuckled and reached over to gently rub at the silver's itchy eye ridges. "Cavenath thinks Ianath is pretty, but I'd say she's beautiful. A perfect match."
Miiine! Your Cavenath needs more meat and less talking!
Sheepishly the blond got more food for his dragon and peered around a bit for Lothan so that he could share this happy moment. All three of them.

Lothan, further down the table, grinned hugely over at Therion and Inaari, and lifted his free hand in the air, balled into a victorious fist. Best day of his life. Most of the reason for that was currently leaning heavily on him, eating a little more slowly now, but that they'd impressed too -- and a silver and a gold -- that just put the capper on the day.
Night, Capeth corrected him.
Night, okay. You're right, Capeth, it is night. A yawn caught Loth by surprise. He was still running on adrenaline, but now that the Hatching was done, his weariness had begun to catch up with him. Capeth's growing drowsiness only fed into his own.
Yours is tired too, Capeth commented. He tilted a deep blue eye towards Cavenath. Cavenath's will be more tired, he pronounced, sounding faintly amused.

The rest of the hatching almost seemed to pass by like a blur. There were a couple of times when there was fear of a dragon going Between, but each dragon eventually found Theirs with little incidence. In in the end though, Azuran was once again left dragonless. It was difficult to fight down the crushing disappointment inside, but the teen just kept repeating to himself that this was for the dragons' sake not the Candidates as he walked off the Sands.
As soon as he was off the Sands Drakell appeared next to him and landed on his shoulder. The little firelizard looked up at his master with worry, sensing his inner sadness. Azuran smiled faintly at this and pet the small brown as they walked along. At least I still have you, even if a dragon never Impresses me. Slightly comforted, he continued on back to his room to attempt to return to sleep.

Pazzult had been sound asleep. Not only had the banging of the pots barely budged him but it actually took another one of the candidates to shake him awake and get him moving. Groggily, the weaver changed into his white robes. He was slow to wake and stumbled along the glow-lit corridors towards the sands. They were about halfway there when the cold air of the night hit him and his eyes shot wide open. For a second, he thought he was sleep walking before he realized that it was HATCHING! Shaking himself, Pazzult tried to gather his thoughts.
Soon enough, they were Standing and the first egg hatched and went to a rather young looking girl. A green! How sweet! Two more greens impressed while a pair of blues started to duel. Tiepet was one of those who had Impressed! Pazzult made a mental note to go up to her in the morning. He was sure that, unless he Impressed, he would go right back to sleep after this. More dragons out, another green and Rhilira had Impressed! How nice that his two friends had both gotten dragons. And pretty little thing too. He loved the freckles on Tiepet's green's shoulders. He wondered what their names were and what they were like. Soon enough, the higher colors (brown, bronze, and gold) had Impressed to folks he didn't know but that was okay. Pazzult had come to the decision that he would petition his father to stay in the weyr and work with Kita if he aged on.
Mind wandered and next thing he knew Eirlyn was yelling at them to move in closer. He shuffled with the other boys near him. What was going on with those three smallish eggs? He watched as the eggs were cracked open and a black, then crimson and finally a silver dragon hatched out. One by one, they were paired off. Yawning, Pazz was a simple man with simple needs. And with no Impression for him, sleep was foremost on his mind. Once the excitement was died down, he waved and made sure it was okay. Back to bed with him!

Ralae? Why are we not going to the others? They are coming out of their eggs and we should be there. I am hungry. Zabreth complained to her new rider. The little green waddled behind Ralae who had actually had been the first to Impress and be led off the sands.
A bucket of raw meat appeared like it just came from /between/ and Zabreth squeed in dragonish delight.
"See? I am feeding you now! Just make sure to chew, okay?" Ralae grabbed a chunk and began to feed her new dragonet. The tween was amazed and awed all at the same time. She knew her father was a dragon rider and so was she!
She was practically prancing in place. But she was also exhausted. It was quite late and Ralae had no idea how long the Hatching was going to last but she was drained. "Eat up, Zay so we can go to sleep."
Who is Zay and what is sleep? My name is Zabreth.
"Uh, Sleep is when you rest and I thought you might like the name Zay. But you are right, Zabreth. I can call you that if that is what you want." Ralae replied. She wasn't quite sure how to react to this dragon with such a strong mind.
Oh. Well. Whatever. More meat please. Zabreth opened her mouth for more food.
It was going to be an interesting night.
