"We do... it's just...." Lin paused as if trying to think about it.
Yukito and Yue, along with her mother were probably the only people who could really understand, her father just tended to shrug and said it was magical science jargon he couldn't understand. It just happened, therefore it existed.
"It's not that anything in terms of hours or minutes or even a year has changed, it's the flow of time itself is different between worlds. We do not notice when we're experiencing it, but we notice their effects. Like... if you took a baby plant from here, and put it in our world. Say... it takes, two weeks for it sprout a leaf, and then you take it back to your world. In your world, probably a year if not more has passed, but it's still a baby plant that only grew one leaf since it left."

"But why?" Amora pressed. "Why is it like that? Is it like that with all worlds? And if that's the case, how do you dare travel to other worlds in the first place? Wouldn't you be afraid of coming home and finding that you're old and your family isn't? Or that your family is old but you haven't changed a bit?"
Her brow creased in confusion. "I think it's safer if I stay in my own world," she said seriously. "It would be interesting to compare worlds, but to go for a short time and come back and have so much time having passed ..." She shook her head. "I don't think I could do that."

"Well... we know it's just one way, the time won't change suddenly and go into reverse," Lin replied.
She paused and thought about what she knew, which wasn't a lot compared to some people, but she had experience.
"Not all worlds are like that, I don't know why some worlds are and some are not, as for getting old," Lin looked at her hand thoughtfully, "Seconds were never given old age."
Most stage growers weren't, though unless Lin thought she was like a bird and would one day keel over.

Amora looked at Lin curiously. "Seconds?" she repeated, tilting her head interestedly. "Second whats?"
This sounded interesting ...

"I have no clue," Lin admitted, "We're not a second of anyone, but everyone just calls us Seconds. Maybe because we take on a lot of qualities of normal Gaians, who knows. I mean.... we can be born as any race, sure humans, angels, demons, fairies and mers are the most common, but we've had a few nekos, and wolf hybrids, two elves, one drow, a vampire... or two... and even though normally they would all be considered different races we are really just one race. We just happen to look different on the outside."
She paused for a moment and then added.
"Yukito thinks that part of the reason why we're called Seconds is because we sometimes take on qualities of the person who adopts the vase, unfortunately the only strongest proof he's had of this theory are a few of Elnara-neesan's kids and myself, and I'm not a very good example seeing as I'm the only one out of the seven adopted from the vase that actually fits that description."

Amora blinked at Lin. "Angels? Demons? Faiies? Mers? Nekos? Drow? Vampire? What are those? I've never heard of those races before ..."
Nor did she know the people Yukito and Elnara-neesan - whatever that meant.
"You're very confusing."

Lin giggled, it had been a long time since she was confusing. She grinned sheepishly though, understanding that Amora was going to be confused.
"Back in Gaia, they are the several of the many races there, but they are true races on their own. Like I call myself human, but that's because out of all of the races I have human qualities, but I am a Second, so I am a Second Human."
She hummed a bit before going on.
"Angels are people with bird like wings, they can pass for human, until you see the wings that is, demons are like angels except they have bat wings. Well... calling them demons probably isn't accurate, at least I think so... I'd rather call them daemons, but..." she shrugged, "Fairies have wings that look a lot of like butterfly or dragonfly wings, but they deal with a lot of illusions so its easy to meet one and never know it. Mers are the term for the sea people, they look like me from the waist up, but are fish from the waist down. Nekos are one of the many 'animal' people that they have animal characteristics. Like Triton, he's a neko, with his cat ears and kitty tail. Drows have pointed ears like elves, but their skin is like ash, and hair the colour of snow."
She paused and then added.
"And that's only the short list."

Amora nodded thoughtfully, her dark eyes soft with curiosity. "I'd like to learn more about them, if it's possible," she murmured. "But how to do that without going to your world ..."
She bit her lower lip and continued to lead them onward. "Perhaps ... do you have books that I can read about them?" she asked, looking back at Lin. "I would like very much to learn more about them ..."

Lin nodded there had to be a book somewhere about the races, he as sure at least the clan library had one.
"If reading in Common Tongue is fine," Lin ventured.
She knew that English was one of the most messed up languages phonetically speaking.

Amora giggled. "Yes, Mother taught Pengolodh and me to read Common Elvish," she assured Lin with a smile. "Even in your strange letters. She said that it might be good to know, and she knew it from a book that she saw at the Ranch library when she was there."
They passed through the palace gates then, and Amora pointed out several buildings as they continued on their path. Here was a tailor, there was a sweet shop - and so on as they passed the wood smith, blacksmith, tanner, butcher, baker, glass smith, writing supplies ... the list went on and on. It was a large city, and this part - the northern quarter - was the business section. At long last, they were through it, and had arrived at the very heart of the city, where the inn was located.
"So," Amora smiled at Lin. "You've seen everything briefly. Now which places would you like to stop in and see?"

There were so many places, there was a small temptation at the sweet shop (though Lin wouldn't like to admit, she did have a bit of a sweet tooth), but there were the other places like the blacksmith as well.
Glass smithing though... didn't she once ask about glass.
"Glass smith," Lin replied, "And the blacksmith... and...... the sweetshop...."
She liked see where things were made, it interested her.

Amora smiled. "Very well. Anywhere else? I think Father said something about you perhaps meeting some people you knew about here ... I'm not sure what that was about, though, perhaps I'm just imagining things."
She turned away from the inn, walking slowly back the way they'd come.

Lin paused she was confused for a moment until it clicked, it probably did because technically she had never met this people.
"Oh! I think he was talking about Shael's brother and sister, I know Shael from the Borderlands but... I've never met her family."
Shael, she had kind of grown up with her, they tried to solve the mystery of Aragost together.

Now that was a name that Amora knew well, and she beamed brightly at Lin. "Oh! They're the ones that own the inn!" she laughed, stopping and pointing back where they had just been. "Right there! Do you want to meet them now?"
She grinned, rocking back and forth on the balls of her feet, her hands clasped behind her back. So close and they had almost missed them!

"Sure," Lin replied.
Besides they were here anyways so she might as well meet them now as far as she was concerned.
