Curiously, Galliath peered over S'van's shoulder and the lad brought his hand up to pat his wedge shaped head. Who is the one you are watching, mine? A faint smile tugged at the weyrling's lips, and he shook his head slightly. Okassis, Gall. He's an old friend. The dragonet seemed to digest that, observing the candidates with whirling eyes. And the other? The smile turned into a grin and S'van turned toward the dragonet, reaching up to stroke his eyeridges. Jiriar, and now you're being nosy! Galliath, who was never nosy, but always appropriately interested in whatever he asked about, did not agree. I am not nosy. You are being very silly. I am perfectly shaped. ... That hadn't quite been what S'van had meant.

This happened to be one of few times Tideal was so captured in awe. While he liked noting better than to maintain his usual plain expression, but his admiration was splayed clearly across his face. Though each egg that successfully impressed left him with a pang of longing he wasn't the sort who would let that show. Tideal pressed closer to the back of the robed Candidate crowd, shifting uncomfortably in his own garb. 'It was expected to be nervous, he told himself, 'especially on one's first time standing for a clutch... We'll just wait and see, then.' He frowned mentally at his own fidgeting and made an effort to still himself. "What a handsome bronze," Tideal mumbled to quietly.

Well, that had been a great example of the bronze race, even if Notos didn't have any comparison. Well-mannered, considerate, with none of the awkwardness that the other dragons had displayed. He had watched it move to select it's owner, the decision already made in his mind. "Impressive." Bronzes really did prove to be the highest, didn't they? He shook his head, his glance straying to the remaining eggs that didn't hatch yet. Another glance outside showed the darkening skies, his gaze sliding backwards towards the door. Just a little longer, and this surreal experience would end. But there would be more hatching, wouldn't there? Notos thought, almost lifting a hand lazily.

Nelioa's blue eyes shifted over to the bronze. At first it seemed like it was going to take its sweet time, relishing the world outside the egg before making its place known beside its new rider and companion. She chuckled to herself as it finally made its choice. She wondered if hunger had finally reached its belly or if it had been silently choosing before making a grand show of bee-lining strait towards its rider. Never the less it was a grand scene to watch unfold.
She wrung her hands lightly her eyes moving back over towards the sands. Not many eggs left, a gnawing pit in her stomach began to churn. This was her first hatching on the sands, things seemed so different down here than they did in the sands. Part of her began to wonder if they would ever hatch, she wanted so badly to see them. Each opening egg was a small wonder in and of itself. By the end of this day reguardless of if she impressed she knew she was going to be exhasted from the sheer excitment.

As the adorable new dragonets paired off one by one with the youths waiting for them, Elora's spirits began to fall once more, though she did her best to hide it. Trying to maintain a show of calm expectation, inwardly she was beginning to feel extremely blue, like one of the eggs still remaining. She knew that there was always next time, but still the shame and disappointment would haunt her for sevendays, as it had before...

Aaah, regretting telling her already? Or perhaps he regretted that he had just informed the whole Weyr that he was currently seeing someone. She didn’t really see why. Telling her was like telling everyone anyways, so it would have got around pretty fast as soon as the Hatching was over. He’d just saved himself a lot of trouble by coming clean where everyone could hear him. Giving Marko one final wave, she turned back to watch as a little green dragon hatched. Aaaw the poor little thing was so scared! When she stopped in front of the group of girls Nandeli couldn’t help but breathe in sharply, but the dragon was not for her. She grinned when she saw Quinnel making her way through the crowd, nodding encouragingly as she passed. A little green would suit the girl just fine.
Her eyes lit up when a bronze broke free of his shell, watching eagerly as he made his way towards the boys. The little dragon would have a hard choice ahead of him. Nan knew for sure that there were many boys who wanted him, many of which were her friends. She had just stood on tiptoe to try and watch the dragon when the approach of someone made her look away. “Dorinelic!” Nandeli whispered, grinning at her newest acquaintance. “I didn’t know you were a Candidate either! All Weyrbrats are allowed to Stand regardless of whether or not they’re Searched. Did you get Searched?”
Judging by the cheers, the laid-back bronze had Impressed, and Nandeli glanced over quickly to look at the Candidate. None of her closer male friends, but that was okay. There were still two eggs left!

Kiera was extremely late to the Hatching, which she knew was like missing out on a month's worth of meals. A Hatching was the best thing to happen within a Weyr, it gave hope and true happiness to the inhabitants. As she slipped out on the sands, the heat slowly irritating the soft skin of her feet, she noticed with sinking doubt that many were already paired off. She wriggled quietly in her skin as she looked upon the newest pairs, her heart in her throat. Such lovely dragons!
She followed the tumultuous crowd's eyes to the last two eggs. They were beginning to wriggle like she was. Excitement welled within her as she gripped the white robe she wore with shaking fingers.
Slowly, Kiera steeled all her shaking, her eyes watching the eggs with generous curiosity at whom the little ones within would choose.

The number of eggs had drastically dwindled down, and with them, so came the hopes of the remaining Candidates. There had just been so many more Candidates than eggs though, as the Candidatemaster would shortly have to be pointing out to a collection of long and disappointed faces. Their dragons would come, etcetera, etcetera.
For at least one more Candidate, their dragon was on the way. The Javanese Damsel Egg was beginning to sway mightily, having an almost hypnotic effect on everyone. What would come out? The boys and girls probably all had their own private hopes thrust upon the poor creature struggling to get free.
For several more long minutes, the egg heaved back and forth, before the dragon inside thrust a foot out, and then a wing, and finally collapsed onto the sand, panting. He did not look very pleased to be there, and many of the riders remarked at his side. Even as a youngling, he was quite obviously going to be big for his color, which was a rich overall blue. The question was, who would he choose?

Kiriwar watched on with nervousness. The number of eggs was dwindling... He was beginning to worry. How silly was that? Not long ago, he was almost hoping that he would not Impress, could continue living this life of silliness and freedom, but... now... He hoped. The boy sighed quietly, biting his bottom lip and watching the little Blue now with an intent gaze.

Back and forth... back and forth... It was the rich, blue egg he'd remembered touching before, his tongue clicking faintly against the roof of his mouth until the creature spilled out onto the sands. A blue--much bigger than the dainty blue before! He looked exhausted, his great sides heaving for breath while Jiriar had to marvel. Reminded him of how tired baby herdbeasts were when they were first birthed, though he imagined the dragonet would soon be struggling to its feet.

The egg was a blue. Hanya took a deep breath and shook her head slowly, biting her lip as she considered the possibilities of what would happen next. Would she be allowed to return as a Candidate if she went back to Weavercraft Hall for a few Turns to finish her apprenticeship? Was that permitted? She wanted a dragon to choose her, and she wanted to be there in case her absence sent one between, but...
If she never Impressed, she would leave the Weyr at twenty-one turns, no more accomplished than she had been at sixteen. She did not want to waste five turns of her life...it was an eternity! She would have to find someone to talk to about it. She shook her head and watched the little blue silently, going over the possibilities in her head. Veyes, maybe? She hoped so.
***
It was almost done, now. Weylin had been watching quietly, expression interested but not overly excited or overly disappointed, as the entire Hatching had progressed. It was amazing to watch the dragons, but his mind was not always on those little ones, and had frequently flickered back instead to his little ones. They would be so excited to talk to him afterward. How was it? Were you scared? What happened? Did any of the dragons look at you? I can't wait to be old enough to stand!
He smiled faintly and exhaled in a quiet, self-satisfied manner, pleased that he had somewhere to return to if this clutch was not for him. He wouldn't mind at all. Nonetheless, he watched the exhausted little blue quietly, expression one of concern. If he did not get up soon, no doubt his mother would nudge him to his feet, but Weylin couldn't help a minor flicker of worry for the poor creature. A big blue, as well. Hopefully he would find His quickly enough.

Wow, what a hulk! For a moment, Okassis perked up. Maybe a bit of a grouch, though, with that expression - more likely, just not happy with the world he'd stepped out into. Who would this one pick, though? His gaze flicked briefly to the other boys - eager and nervous and anticipatory and hopeful, everyone in the lot.
He thought that he must be fitting in perfectly right now, but regardless of his emotional landscape, his expression was oddly flat already. He was serious now, and when he got serious, he withdrew. The Candidate might have been somewhat noticeable, standing straight and tall and observing in the front of the pack of boys, while most the others were yet intent and hopeful. Maybe this was some sign - maybe, on whatever subconscious level that controlled his features, he didn't want it bad enough?

Veyes watched the blue egg crack and open revealing a blue occupant. He wasn't surprised that the baby within was blue; that egg had been exactly blue. He grinned as his toes shifted on the sands; wondering who the youth would pick. In fact, just seeing the dragonet there made him chuckle because it seemed slightly caught up with its own indecision. He couldn't blame the dragonet for that considering there were so many choices on the sands. He would have been a little indecisive if it were him.

At the beginning of the Hatching, despite herself, Aderyn had been taut with anticipation, waiting for hers to arrive. But now, however, it was nearing the end, and there were still too many Candidates, and not nearly enough eggs. It was becoming devastatingly clear that her chances were slim to none; she'd been aware of this, of course, going into it, she'd told herself and been told by others that there was likely to be disappointment, but somewhere within herself had been a voice which said maybe this is the time I'll get what I want. Maybe... But once again, it seemed, the rug had been pulled from beneath her. It was difficult to hold the emotion away from her face. It would be unacceptable for her to break down in front of others, to project herself outward, to reveal her vulnerability. Instead, she straightened her shoulders and stood tall and stoic at the back of the group of girls, a solitary statue, trying her best not to crack. Only a little longer, and then you can find someplace to let it all out...

Kiera felt her eyes widen as she stared at the beautifully marked egg as it swayed and rocked in a lazy dance, until finally with a crack! the egg broke. She shuddered at the crunching sound, and steeled herself as the blue dragonet came forward, huffing, from it's tiny prison. The look on it's face was one of displeasure, and Kiera could not help but smirk. She would have been the same if it were her in the situation.
She felt gooseflesh on her arms for a moment at the afterthought, and quickly focused upon the dragon, hoping with all her might that maybe this was hers, that maybe the sickening dread of maybe having to return to the farms, leaving this wonderful place would come to pass.
