Ursari concept is here <3 Could you take a look at it and gimme your opinion about it, Natsu, or anyone else? biggrin *is a bit vague about some details*
PostPosted: Wed Nov 05, 2008 9:25 am

*Is going to bury Natsube in questions* I think you might want to record all this info in the end, or have a question thread at some point. U.U; Else you will see the nightmare that is my endless curiosity again. sweatdrop

Question:
1.) It says uni/albino. Are unis albino in nature, or are you saying this is the only chance to get either a uni or a albino (only one person can pick 'either or' this option, or was it like saying one person can pick uni and another person can pick albino? If so, and not knowing this beforehand, can we change our markings for our profile due to this new information. If not, then never mind.

Natsu's statement: "Albinos are RARE and are usually born with a single horn". Therefore, from what I understand, unis are a product of albinism and do not happen without that condition. Theoretically you could get an albino with two horns, but I seriously doubt Natsu-bebe wants to encourage this (or even intends to allow it), since albinos are supposed to be rare (in all caps).

Name: Dari'an
Family: Djardi
Gender: Female
Stage: Journeyman
Seller of: Confidential Comfort - Using therapeutic massage, herbal teas and oils and simply offering a willing ear, Dari'an makes sure to give her customers what they need when they are sick not only in body, but also in heart and soul. What a customer might need can be anything from someone to simply listen, without bias to a problem or fear to a strong shoulder to weep upon to a simple neckrub to relieve an achy back. This is not to say that she is unable to heal sickness or stitch shut the occasional cut, but making sure her customers are whole in ALL aspects is the most important part of her practice. And through it all, she keeps what her customers have confided to her in strictest confidence.

Tools of the trade
• Herbal Teas - to help soothe upset stomachs, make muscles relax, simply get some minerals into a person to help ward off illness
• Essential and Massage oils - for use in Aromatherapy or to create gentle heat to work into muscles
• Minute knowledge of Body Language - You can't begin to heal the heart or mind if you don't know about the body. Sometimes, the body gives of unconscious and subtle clues to a deep emotional problem.

Eyes: Bright Green-blue
Skintone: Golden Walnut colored (kind of a dark golden-y brown)
Horns: Delicate, curving gazelle horns colored sable brown with gilded tips and small ribbons and bells twined about the ends
Hairstyle: Soft, long bangs swept to one side of the face with the rest pulled into a ponytail with the ponytail itself being made up of multiple braids. Each braid should end in small chiming bells. Hair would be colored pale whitish gold.
Personality: Dari'an lives very much in the moment, though she also pays careful attention to the past in order to learn from it and incorporate those lessons into her healing. Always projecting an aura of happy serenity, she is a quietly confident and gentle person. However, she also has a sardonic sense of humor and can be quite sharp with those who refuse to let themselves be healed. She allows herself to feel whatever emotion that wells up within her and acknowledges and learns from it.

Contrary to her public image, Dari'an often doubts herself and wonders if her unique brand of healing is doing anyone any good at all. Only those she trusts implicitly will ever see this side of her as her trust is a difficult thing to earn. But don't ever let her customers know... it would seriously undermine their own healing if they doubted the healer as well!
Position/Expression: Perhaps a standing pose with one hand swept out to the side and the other raised in a welcoming/beckoning gesture. Her expression should also be welcoming and serene.
Outfit: Practical, yet luxurious, as she feels that it will help her customers to feel special if she looks special as well. Flowing trousers ending at mid-calf and tied close to the leg with bright ribbons. A pretty vest with lacing to close it and a flowing, floor length vest over everything
Items?: gold bangles on her wrists and ankles, gold arm bands on her upper arms, at her waist should be a belt with many small pouches and special slots for her vials of oils and herbs.
Etc: she should have a mixture of white gold and bright blue green makeup/dye around her eyes and on her lips
References: Dari'an - minus overvest

Using Prompt 2

Dari'an gave a purely internal sigh as she sank gracefully onto the brocade cushion that Baba had directed her to. Really, she thought mutinously, though she kept her face carefully schooled into an expression of polite receptiveness, I have more important things to do than to listen to her drone on at me about the lack of suitable boys who’d actually want me.

It was no secret that Dari'an’s parents weren’t exactly the wealthiest Djardi in the caravan, or the most influential. Dari'an has known growing up that if she was married off, it would be into a family of equally un-wealthy, non-influential ties. And frankly, all the boys she knew of who fit that description within the caravan disgusted her. No ambition, no desire to learn anything new that might better help their customers… and no tolerance for the one who was willing to do something new in her efforts to heal. Well, she thought bleakly, watching Baba’s narrowed eyes appraising her coolly, so it was for Master Genarii. And as Master keeps reassuring me, this too will pass. But that thought was no help right now, facing Baba as she was. And the fact that Genarii had never been married didn’t help either.

“Well,” Baba intoned in her age-roughened voice, as Dari’an shook herself guiltily back into the present. “You’ve been no end of difficulty for me to match, young one. As you are no doubt well aware, your abilities in healing are not exactly the norm. Factor in your overly sharp tongue when you are annoyed and you are probably the least desirable lady in the caravan.”

Dari’an kept her eyes on the old Ursari, quickly noting that in spite of her words, the old hag seemed to be relaxed. Though… the way she moved her left arm seemed to indicate a stiffness and favoring that hadn’t been there during her last visit. The girl narrowed her own eyes slightly, wondering if it would be a politic move to offer a quick assessment on the spot. To her eyes, it looked as it Baba was suffering from either a pulled or cramping muscle within her shoulder. Easy enough to fix, but how to bring it up! She became so engrossed in her own thoughts that she missed some of Baba’s words. It was only when she caught the tone of smug satisfaction in Baba’s voice that she literally jumped and stared at the old Ursari with something akin to fear in her eyes.

“W…what?!? You found me a what?” she didn’t exactly shriek, nor did she whisper. It was more of an interesting mix of the two that ended in a literal high note.

“I have found a match for you,” Baba repeated patiently, noting the shadow of fear in the girl’s eyes and softening her grim smile a touch. “He is somewhat higher in status than you, though his family does not find this objectionable. Quiet lad, very careful about his work, though he seems to have an innovative streak to him. I have already spoken to your own parents of this and they are overjoyed. In fact,” Baba sounded smug again, “this could well turn out to be one of the better matches I have made in my career.”

Dari’an felt herself turn cold as blood drained from her skin. She didn’t want to be handed off like a prized cow to some person she didn’t even know! And, for once, her own rigid self-training fled and she scrambled to her feet, limbs removing to work properly.

“No! That can’t be right! You’ve told me more than once that no other family even wants me to be considered! How do you even know they’re telling you the truth and he won’t be absolutely horrible? I… he… you… !”

Shaking, she felt Baba’s sticklike fingers curl around her wrist and give a sharp pull, forcing her to be seated. In the detached, professional part of her mind, she noted how Baba winced in pain while she pulled and held on. Bowing her head in shame of her outburst, Dari’an just knew that after this, Baba was certain to find her the worst husband in the history of marriages. And she’d be trapped.

“Do calm yourself, girl,” Baba snapped. “And pick your head up! I am as professional in my assessments as you, not to mention that I have a great deal more pride attached! Now, follow your own advice and stop reacting like a ninny and start thinking! And while you are composing yourself, be useful and put those magic fingers of yours to work on my shoulder. It’s been giving me no end of trouble.”

Blinking dumbly, Dari’an did as she was told and let her training simply take over as she ministered to Baba’s shoulder. As her fingers expertly found deep knots in the aged muscles, she listened carefully to the old Ursari speak. And while Baba’s sharp words might not have sounded comforting to a casual passersby, Dari’an found herself soothed.

Why, she thought with some surprise, in her own way, Baba is not so different from me! Though I certainly hope I don’t become quite so intimidating when I reach her age…

And when Baba gave her a firm shove between her shoulder blades to get her out the door, Dari’an found herself smiling for the first time that morning. She still didn’t know who this mysterious boy was or why his family was happy to pair him with someone as low in status as her, but at least she knew that Baba did not make her selections arbitrarily. And somehow, that thought was the most comforting of all.

When I talked to Natsu about that she saaaaid...*digs*

Albinos are always uni, unis aren't always albino.

Cause otherwise I would've just went albino and left the uni up for grabs. >>;

"Eee, grats to Zomi for the raffle! whee Do we know if she's taking the albino/uni off the market?

Also had a question for the contest. The Ursari all appear to have tails in your images. Do the tails have to be from a specific animal/species, or can it be any kind tail you want?"

*answers questions now*

The Ursari are based on four legged pack mammals, so anything from a deer to an ox is more than allowed. Horse tails (aka hair) are the norm.

"Another question. Are children ever traded before marriage? Say that a Luminista child has no magical talents - or that they're so small that they're overweighed by a talent for metalworking. Could they be traded off to another family without actually marrying into them?

Also, what's the normal age for marrying, or at least seeing Baba? Are our concept Ursari allowed to be married already (which could cause hella problems for the whole soul bonding thing, which could be fun, but maybe too much trouble and you'd prefer we avoided it)?

* These are example talents and families, not the ones I'm going for XD"

Marriage is more of a trade, or a business deal, than what we would term "marriage". Them being married in to another family allows them to take on that families name. The only time it wouldnt be done without marriage is if a child from lets say the luminista, was born with talents in djardi, and a djardi child was born with talents for the luminista. It would be a trade of adoption, but only if the parents didn't have any other children for the children to be married off to.

Baba will match children at the time they show talent for another family. If its 3, or 16, thats when they are traded. Family marriages usually take place when the child becomes a journeyman, when their talent is in full force. Marriages at the apprentice age (which is from about 10 to 14) is not uncommon as well, especially if the child shows a lot of talent.

And yes, your Ursari can be married off before being soulmated. It happens quite often (star crossed lovers and all that) and while annoying, most would consider it romantic. Of course, all Ursari sign a prenup.

LOL.

"I have a few questions and I apologize if these have been asked.

One question is like... how different do the Pivito look from the other Ursari? Are they like the hulks and scary body builders of their species? I'm trying to get a better image [and even trying to draw an image of my girl but not sure how far to go with the muscles of excellence! xD], especially of the females, as they are more in charge would they be larger or would males have more of the strength as usually happens in the animal kingdom?
Two, do apprentices always have to do the exact same craft as their masters? Like could they be under a master who would teach them the same set of skills but could be teaching them to make something different than their own trade?
This also goes with the question of if they know, feel deep down inside them or are told [by like.. Baba or something, even though she seems to be the matchmaker] they are meant to do a certain trade or if they are charted off to a master and thus instructed how to make what their master makes.

FEEL BETTER NATSU <333"

Depends on what they do. If they work on jewelery, i doubt they will be body builders lol. Blacksmiths, or those with backbreaking work, will probably be slimmer than most Ursari (most Ursari have some junk in the trunk) and will be muscled firmly.

Think of well defined muscular people. Similarly, they would not look like body builders since their muscles are defined by their work, not defined by hours upon hours of making their bodies that way.

No, apprentices usually don't do the same trade of their masters, because how then could that master say hes the one and only master of his trade? Usually, the master does something similar to the student. Either very similar, or with tenuous connections.

For example, my Twilla searches and collects witchlight, small mult coloured flames that if nurtured correctly with light and create heat without burning. They are also a form of pure magic that can be used in lieu of having magic yourself. Her master creates ever burning flames out of his own magic, that is exactly like normal fire save you never have to relight it.

I'll say this: Even apprenticed Ursari keep secrets from their masters. Twilla can do what her master does with calling flames to her, but she's been working out collecting pure witchlight herself.

Parents send their children off to school with the rest of the children in caravan, so its usually fairly simple for children who do have talents in other families to show that they do. Teachers make notes of luminista children who spend a lot of time picking flowers, or making chains out of play doh, etc. If there is enough reason to doubt the childs claim to being a lumista, say, the parents will take them to Baba.

They can't ask Baba to scry until the child has set himself down the path, otherwise the future is murky and full of possibilities.

"I hope you feel better, Natsube.

Question:
1.) Ursaris find masters to apprentice under, but if the family had the wealthy and knew a close person friend, could they appeal to that person to tutor someone for them? Could a Tutor actually self appointment himself as a teacher for someone else because they want to take up the challenged of disciplining a child to better their pupil and their skill if they feel they have the potential that they don't want to see go to waste?
"

Whoa, grammar MK ^^;;;

There is usually a hiring fair twice of year, for youngsters that are ready to find a master to look for one. Masters willing to take apprentices appear and look over the children that have a particular talent they could use.

If an Ursari cannot find a master at a fair, one would usually do everything in their power to find someone who could teach them adequately.

Remember, not all Ursari are particularily gifted, we're just assuming the ones we are playing are. A lot of Ursari do not go beyond journeyman, and work for their master all their lives.

Name: Xandra
Family:Thetana
Gender: Female
Stage: Apprentice
Seller of: Treasure maps. With all her knowledge and intelligence, she can actually deduce where treasures are buried or hidden. However, she never knows what kind of treasures lies there, so it might be a huge treasure or a cheap one. The buyer can also bring her information about a mysterious treasure and she will make a very acurate map to find it. However, those kind of maps are sold higher since they are more complex to make. The more information the seller have, the cheaper the map will be. It also goes the other way around. She can also make maps for people who lost something!
Eyes: Green leaves for the color
Horns: Crystal horns. Anything that fit her style.
Hairstyle: Long wavy dark black hair with pearls and feathers in it. It mixes with her tail so we don't know where one stop and where the other starts.
Personality: She's very sure of herself and thinks she's always right. Sadly, she always manages to prove her point, thus she KNOWS she's always right. She also likes to rub it in but she's not a bad person. She just likes to show off her knowledge. When drawing her maps, she likes to imagine what kind of adventure the buyer will have during his treasure hunt and might sometime put some challenges like riddles or guide them to some obstacle just to spice things up.
Position/Expression: Drawing a map on a table, her glasses at the edge of her nose with a serious/thinking expression.
Outfit: She wears lots of light fabrics and likes it to be floating behind and around her when she walks. She has a transparent veil around her shoulders. A sleeveless dress top that connects with her lower dress on the side. The front of the dress is short (way above her knees but not too short either) and the back is so long its drags on the floor. She wears high heels golden sandals (but not too high).
Items?: Map, feather to write, ink pot and a pile of books.
Etc: I give you the big lines to give you some space for creativity, especially for her horns because I can't think of anything for that except they must be made of crystal. But she's a girl who likes to be always well-dressed and likes to be pretty. So she might have some light make-up. She has a light tanned skin, a look she worked to keep because of her black hair.
References: None. I'm sorry. That one really just came out of my head. XD

Since "Alexandra" or anything "Alex" was taken, I changed her name slightly even if in my head, it's Alexandra. XD

User ImageName: Ciciao
Family: Pitivo
Gender: female
Stage: apprentice

Seller of: Living Metal. From an early time in Ciciao's life she could take pieces of metal and create beautiful and intricate objects. After these objects were created, she would p***k her finger and drip a bit of blood on the metal object. All of the sudden, the object would come to a sort of "life" moving and interacting with anyone who held it. These objects are usually expensive, and whomever's blood they hold is who they bond closest to. Depending on what the metal object is, depends on what it does. (description is of what her mastery of the craft would be like)

Eyes: vivid teal green

Horns: small ebony deer antlers

Hairstyle: short and light strawberry blonde

Skin: her skin is a light caramel. From her hands halfway to her elbows, she had a black and white striped tattoo. It fades as it goes up her arm.

Personality: Ciciao is overconfident, she's not aways aware of how she rubs off on people. She doesn't really understand the concept of 'awkward' and so nothing is off limits to her. She can be fairly rude if you get on her bad side or she's in a bad mood. Although she's very self-assured, Ciciao doesn't like to gossip with other people, and is usually very shy about exactly how she feels. She's completely open about everything but her feelings. She also lives by two mottoes: "Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back" and "Love all, trust few, do wrong to no one." Ciciao's curiosity is almost insatiable, she will go digging through anything to find out the answer to something if she's curious enough. By do wrong to no one, Ciciao doesn't gossip about other people's issues. She will talk about things that have happened, but not about how ursari x feels about ursari y, if you tell her a secret, you can guarantee she'll keep it.

Position/Expression: she should look overconfident, maybe with one hand on her hip and the other holding up one of her living creations.

Outfit: She wears a dress that has a style similar to this, but it has no sleeves. The dress is light blues and whites with gold accents. On the "skirt" area it fades to a darker blue (from white) at the waist.
Around her wrist is a intricate bracelet that appears to be twisting and changing constantly. Around her ankle she has another constantly changing bracelet. Both of these bracelets act as protectors, in times of danger they will turn into weapons for her. They also sometimes change into little tools and things to make life a little easier for Ciciao.
Around her waist are shiny ropes of metal, each with small shiny objects dangling off it. She uses these in case of emergency.
Dangling around her neck is a small glass tube of blood.

Items?: The thing that she is holding up in her right hand appears to be a sort of cat in a perpetual kitten stage, though made of living metal and it has intricately carved patterns all over it.

Etc: Because her living metal creations are in high demand, Ciciao if very wealthy, and often creates whatever she wants. Rarely, she will take commissions and do what someone else wants for a living metal creation. (happens more so after she masters her craft)

RP Prompt 1 Wrote:

Your Ursari has not been able to find a master and cannot be considered an adult until she or he does. There are two main types of Masters, Tutors who focus on one apprentice only and Teachers, who focus on a large group of children. With everything in the Ursari world, there are many tiers within Masters, depending on their skill. Why hasn't your Ursari found a Master? How does it make them feel? What do they do to get one?

Quote:

Ciciao was having a hard time finding herself a master. She had been born into a Luminista family, but with the development of her craft- to the detriment of the silverware- it was obvious to Ciciao’s parents that she would not stay with them in their Luminista home.

It wasn’t long before Ciciao came of age and set out looking for a master to take her on as an apprentice. Ciciao went from one master to the next, each declining her, saying they could not help. Some said they did not know enough of magic to be useful; others didn’t focus on motion in their metal working crafts.

Even though Ciciao was getting rejected by everyone, she was still defiant and optimistic. She knew she would find the right master when he showed up. In the mean time she meandered through rows upon rows of stalls with Pitivo and Aishe products alike. There were so many delicate little things, many useful, sturdy objects, but nothing that really interacted with the purchaser. Everyone was selling something to tell you this, or to do that, and things to allow you to do whatever.

Hummmh… Ciciao let out an almost inaudible sigh. Looking down at the worn wooden floor, she began to doubt. Would she be able to find a master to help her? For a moment she didn’t think it possible.

“Excuse me? Miss, what troubles you so? My emotimetre here is pointing that you are unhappy.” Another ursari had just butt into Ciciao’s thoughts.

“Oh, hmm? Ah, I’ve just… not been able to find a master to help me learn my craft.” She confided in the stranger. Although she didn’t know him, he gave off an air of sincerity and calm.

“Really now? My trephotomraph is telling me that your craft has something to do with metal, and… just a bit of magic?” How interesting! My craft uses metal to build these machines and just a bit of magic know-how to tell them what their purpose is.” His eyes had taken on a peculiar twinkle, as though he was prompting Ciciao to figure out where he was going with this. He knew this would pretty much make her day. The other ursari turned around in his stall and started rummaging around in a couple of boxes mumbling about where he had put some old little machine. “I know it’s here somewhere, just hold on a minute…”

“That’s incredible, sir! Thank you for your time, I must be off now, in search of my master y’know!” Ciciao turned slightly and began to wander away glancing into stalls here and there. She was completely oblivious to the fact that the man with the strange machines was pretty much saying he would take her on as an apprentice.

Turning back around, the man saw that Ciciao had gone. He stood straight up as tall as he could and looked around for her wildly. Where could that silly girl have gone?! After a few minutes of scanning crowds, he spotted her. She was leaning over a sparsely decorated stall staring at some glass bottles with strange creatures in them.

“Girl! Hey, you!” He yelled across the narrow walk as he squeezed through the agitated crowd.

“Huh? Me?” Ciciao turned around, seeing the young man she had just encountered at the stall with the strange machines. “What’s going on?”

Out of breathe, he puffed for a minute before regaining his composure and starting, “I have here a little trinket I built a while back. What it does is it tells you if you’re in the vicinity of your ideal master. Here, take it in your hand, like this, and when I take a step back, press this button and watch the needle to see where it points.”

He stepped back about three feet, “Okay. You’re good to go.”

Ciciao wanted to close her eyes and press the button, but she had to watch the needle. Slowly, as if waiting for something to p***k her finger, Ciciao pressed the button. She watched the needle spin around in aimless circles before it randomly switched directions. It took another ten seconds before it slowed down and pointed straight for the man who had told her how to use this crazy device.

Looking up, Ciciao was surprised that the man stood there with a gleaming smile on his face. “My name is Ribilk, and I would like you,” he paused, and then whispered, “your name?”

“Ciciao!”

“Ahem, yes. I would like you, Ciciao to become my apprentice. Do you accept this decision?” He held his hand out towards her, inviting her to become his apprentice. She was overjoyed almost to the point of forgetting to answer. She made some unintelligible noises, jumping up and down, and spun around a few times before coming back to answer.

“Yes! Yes, of course I will be your apprentice!” Finally, Ciciao had a master to teach her to hone her skills. She was set on the path to becoming a master of her unique metal creations. She was ready to go and not a single thing would stop her.
