"An inn... How lovely. Home-cooked meals?" She wondered at the idea, sweet crisp bacon, buttered toast - with real, unsalted butter, and a one-minute egg... Her stomach protested at its lacking again and she sighed inwardly.
Snapping out of her fantasy of food, MaryAnne's eyes scanned carefully over the assortment. "Oh, ah, yes! Herbal Camomile, please? And do you have honey?" A smile lit her face; tea with honey was her favorite. "I'd like some, if you can, please."

Delicate fingers took the desired tea pack out and handed it to MaryAnne. "Of course! Everything is made with care." At the request for honey, her fingers slid to a small drawer at the front, bringing it out to reveal some sugar packets and other add-ins. "I'm afraid I only have those small packaged things. It'll have to do for now, if you don't mind." One was presented as well. It was almost like how they package individual butter, but for honey.
What a sweet girl.
Anna's eyes were gentle as they examined her. MaryAnne seemed very meek. Meekness could be the result of many life-experiences, she thought, and decided it best to keep the meeting slow paced and quiet. Tea was proving to be a good thing afterall.
Next came the tin of little cookies, which she set in front of MaryAnne. "Don't be afraid to eat them all, if it suits you!"

Smiling still, MaryAnne took the tea and the small honey packet. "This is perfect, thank you!" Carefully unwrapping the honey, she placed it in her tea then looked up as the principle brought out the tin. Blushing again at the notion, she stammered, "Oh! Oh, I would never be so-! Forward! I mean... Oh… Oh my, thank you though."
She did take a two of the smaller sugar cookies, though and placed them on the saucer of her tea cup. When MaryAnne is nervous or flustered, she has a very polite and subdued outward personality and this was what was predominant not as she sat in the office, gazing down at the beautiful china. She tipped her head, the pattern of the tea cups catching her eye and sending her mind into a frenzy of recollection. "Alaska... Forget-me-nots are Alaska’s state flower."

"Are they? I'm afraid I spent more time in Europe and Asia while I've been here than in the states." Anna sat herself down in her chair as she chatted. She could see how badly flustered the young woman was, and wished she only knew why.
"There's no need to be nervous. You're safe here, you know. No one is going to judge you or make your stay hard." If social insecurities were indeed the problem, perhaps she could help alleviate some of her stress.

"Oh, no, I'm not worried about that. I'm not worried at all, really, I just get terribly nervous coming to new places. You should have seen me when I came over here," she laughed, "I was a wreck and at first couldn't get on my feet... Well, I'm sure you somehow know the rest."
MaryAnne tucked a lock of hair behind her ear and took a sip of her tea, eye closing as she did to savor it. Lowering the cup from her lips, she looked around her hosts office, visably relaxing a little.
"You've done wonderful things with this space, ma'am," smiling, she looked back to the woman.

"You should have seen me!" Anna laughed. "And this place? Book stacks nearly up to the ceiling. It was terrible. But I did have a fainting spell, so I'll warn you: The Gate's been acting up. Watch out for that."
Suddenly she remembered just what they were there for. "Goodness, that reminds me! Do you have your letter, or were you sent here as protection to the students?"

She giggled, "Books are good."
At the mention of the Gate acting up, she paled slightly and muttered,"Oh my... All right." Nodding faintly, she offered her letter out over the desk. "To be honest, I'm not quite sure. My... Miguel Sanatori came about a year ago, I think, to enroll me, but nothing ever happened until now, so..." Her shoulders shrugged a little.
Sorry, that's a bit of a planning fault of mine!

"Ah."
Well, she was very young. Anna decided that whatever the plans were, she wasn't deeply involved in them. Taking the letter, Anna's eyes scanned for the important details and were satisfied.
"Alright! Let's get down to business. First of all-" she said, retrieving a packet from her desk drawer and handing it to her, "Here is your packet of maps, teachers, and all that. Your key is also inside. You'll be staying in Keystone, room 204, I believe."

MaryAnne nodded, taking the packet and breifly looking through it. She'd read more once she got out and started looking for her dorm. She took a sip of her tea as she pocketed her key, as not to forget where it was and end up freaking out over it. That was definately something she could see happening.
"Understood. I have a question though - do we have roommates in our dorm? And do we decide our classes here, with you?"

"There are no roommates, and classes will be decided later. We want you to adjust first before getting into the swing of things." But before she could forget, Anna pulled out a small box and handed it to MaryAnne. Inside was a badge, shining. "This is your Keystone badge. Wear it when you have your uniform, which you can get in Moline. Now, you also have to remember that other dorms enjoy their privacy, and it's only polite to be invited before going in. The last point I must stress is that the Gate must be kept a secret. No letting anyone who isn't a Keystone student know. We can't have any accidents." Anna's soft eyes were still kind, but there was a certain determination in them when stressing the last part.

"Understood, ma'am. Wear my badge, don't intrude into the other dorms and do not talk about the Gate," she nodded, taking the box. "Also, will there by any activities, for the holidays? I'm sorry, I must sound terriably immature... I've just never been to a school before. Miguel taught me, here."

Anna laughed. "Of course not, don't ever be afraid to ask questions. Though... I'm not entirely sure what the Headmaster has planned. I know there will be events, but just what exactly they are and when they'll be is beyond me."

"Anytime." Anna stood up to show her guest to the door. It was always nice to admit someone new to the growing family of students at the Grove.
The door swung open to reveal the hallway outside the office. "I hope you settle in quite well!"

"Thank you, very much." She smiled and stood, placing the cup of tea on her desk and bending down to pick up her back, packet under one arm. She checked her pocket for her key then made her way towards the door. MaryAnne shook her hand again, smiling. "Hope to see you again, soon. I'll come to you if I have any questions."
