Kairo noted a female form standing at the edge of the dock, wondering how she'd gotten there. A sinking sail about forty feet off the shore answered his question, and he balked. Did she not even care about her ship? He scratched his head and wandered towards her, stopping when a small four legged rat screeched at him. Wha..?
Izuki looked up and whistled for Krii, the sound somewhat muffled because of the mask covering her face. The bright orange fox tails in her hair stood out starkly against her darkish hair, the blond flowing with the orange but the brown screaming in protest against the decorations. Meandering down the dock, she stopped and looked at Kairo, blinking as her eyes peered into his lightly. She held up a small purse that looked like it had been made of a small animal skin. "Yours?" She shook it slowly and smiled when Kairo took it, speechless. She had found it in her pocket and seeing as how he was the first person she'd seen here, it had to be his...Krii, her partner in crime and the small hissing 'rat', used her little claws to climb up Izuki's clothes and perch on her shoulder, the mongoose's eyes flashing slightly at Kairo. If Izuki liked him, Krii did too. Izuki whistled as she passed the man, walking towards the village and wondering what other sorts of things people 'lost' here...
[Exit]
Thievery. That was it! His purse had been tucked securely to his belt. Visible, yes, but attached! He hadn't even felt its small weight leave his body. The small rat...he recognized it as a mongoose, and even still...Kairo shook his head. He would have to tell Shinichi, if he could even find the ANBU-turned-Kage in these days. How wretched to have to report to the man when he didn't even know where Shinichi spent his day....Kairo sighed, wondering what sorts of trouble this new woman would be with her hissing rat.

A frail old man made his way down the snowy blanket of white to where it bordered the salty water that the island of Shimagakure eternally bathed in. His eyes were squinted and his pace was about as slow as that of a lazy snowflake that drifted with the cool and gentle breeze of the winter wind. He lifted a shaky hand to scratch his head as it pivoted back and forth on his neck while his eyes scanned what appeared to be a blur of blue and white. After pursing his lips out of slight frustration, he moved his hand to delicately pluck the dark and thick-rimmed glasses from his face. As the lenses slipped from view, the blur shifted and the colors seemed to completely mesh together, forming into a light blue that offered almost no hint of shape or contrast. The man then hooked the thumb of his opposite hand in the sleeve of his warm and heavy robe, and cleared the fog from his glasses. Since the frame of his specs had grown cold in the absence of contact with his skin, a shiver displaced the warmth of his robe as he returned them to rest on his ears and nose once again. After completing this strenuous task, the man slowly made his way down the beach, continuing to look around, obviously searching for something.

Kaoru crawled out of the water, and plopped himself down on the snow. He was panting, and coughed every moment or so, spewing out salt water. His body felt numb, but he could still manage to move well enough. His clothes were soaked, and he was shivering from the cold. The tide rose back up, and Kaoru recoiled and pulled away from the chilly water. He raised his head and scanned the empty shoreline. Not a single soul stood out in sight. He noticed a small and half-destroyed hut of some sort. There must be some sort of civilization here. It was early in the morning, and the sun was just beginning to rise. It spread an eerie sort of light on the snowy shore. Kaoru yelled out for help, hoping that someone was near. His voice was raspy, and it surely didn’t go too far. He coughed again, spitting some blood into his almost blue hands. He would surely be in more pain if he wasn’t feeling so numb. A feeling of dizziness started to overcome him, and his vision became very blurred. He tried to yell out again, but his body wouldn’t allow more then a whisper.

The man continued to make his way down to the beach, determined to find what he had lost. His ears picked up what sounded like a light whisper nearby, but the waves sliding against the sandy shore drowned it out and he soon forgot about the subtle sound. Before long, he also forgot why he had come to the shoreline in the first place. However, the retired professor hadn't been outside very often before this day, so he decided to admire the beautiful scenery of Shimagakure's winter while trying to remember what it was that he forgot. His mouth opened wide as a yawn escaped his lips. If he ended up not being able to remember what it was his original intent was, then he would simply return home and take a much needed nap in his favorite chair by the fireplace. But for the time being, he allowed his gaze to follow the waves out to the horizon, remembering the various travels and adventures that he had been privileged enough to embark on within his lifetime.
Training for Kaoru:
Focus training: Getting the old man's attention The man wandering around the beach is hard of hearing and distracted, so his attention won't easily be gained. Kaoru raised his head high again, at what he thought were footsteps in the snow. His vision was still a bit blurry, but he could make out a figure, about twenty to thirty feet away. A low pitched grunt came from his mouth as he tried to yell, but it was nothing loud enough for anyone to hear. Kaoru tried to crawl closer, but his body was numbing, and starting to lock up on him. His knee brushed up against a jagged seashell, about the size of his fist. Kaoru grabbed it and threw it in the figure's direction, trying to get the figure's attention.

Kaoru watched as his attempt was futile, the figure did not seem to respond. Blood gushed from his bottom lip as he bit it with frustration. I need to get their attention! His legs quivered as cold water ran up against them as the tide got higher. The figure was moving around, but Kaoru couldn't tell if he was getting closer or farther away. The tide got even higher, until his body was in a couple of inches of water. Suddenly, an idea shot through his mind. He focused for a second, and then started to thrash his legs, making a large splash in the raising water.

Yes!! Kaoru's eyes widened as the figure obviously responded to the thrashing. He squinted to try and see if the figure moved any closer, which it was apparent that they did. Kaoru's eyes were also starting to clear up, and he made the figure out to be an old man. Kaoru outstretched one of his hands, and his fingers tightened around the freezing snow. His other hand stretched out to meet the lone hand, and together they began to compact snow together. After a moment, he had a well-sized snowball. Kaoru thrust his arm out and let the snowball soar into the old mans back.

Kaoru sighed as the snowball bounced off the old man's back and into the snow. The old man didn't even flinch. Kaoru's hands shot right back out, and they began to form another snowball. His hands were so numb, the snow wouldn't stay compacted and the snowball would just fall apart. Frustrated and angry, he continued to work at the snowball until he made another a few minutes later. This one was not nearly as good as the very first, but stayed together well enough. Kaoru thrust this one right into the old man, who was no more then fifteen feet away.

This snowball soared right past the old man, and Kaoru went absolutely crazy. He pushed with everything he had left and flipped over onto his back, and began to thrash around, flailing his arms and legs. Pain shot through his neck, and let out a silent scream. Kaoru, suddenly started to lick the snow, and shove it into his dry mouth. His lungs filled with dry air, and he let out a loud burst of sound, hopefully this time getting the old man's attention.

The old man had to of heard that! Kaoru could hear the old man's footsteps getting closer. The sound of the snow and ice breaking apart, then a foot crushing against hard sand, was getting louder. Kaoru let out a grunt of approval as he listened. They suddenly stopped. A sharp, shooting pain in his neck prevented him from turning his head around to see what had happened with the old man. Kaoru let out a loud grunt, filled with his current, hopeless rage, as one final attempt to grab the old man's attention.

In his reflection upon what it was that he was actually doing at the shoreline, the old man accidentally stumbled upon a child who had appeared to have washed up on the beach. The youngster seemed as if he was conscious, but in need of serious medical attention. After scratching his head through his wispy white hair once again, the man wondered why the child hadn't simply attempted to get his attention in the first place. Without so much as a word to the youngling, the old man managed to find a few shinobi that were walking along the shore towards the village, probably on their way back from a day of training. He waved them down, explained the situation, and asked them to carry the kid to the clinic. The ninja would be able to get him to safety much more quickly than the man could muster in his old age. After the group disappeared from sight, he continued to remember why it was he came to the shoreline.

Kaoru's vision became blurred again as he watched the Shinobi rush towards him. The speed of things slowed down as they carried him away from the beach. He gasped out for air, and coughed up a bit more blood. The dizzy feeling overcame him once more, and Kaoru slowly fell unconscious.

A massive wave crashed down on the sleeping Ryouta. He awoke in a panic, as his makeshift raft snapped in half under the sheer force of the wave. But then he saw it, after being a drift for hours, he saw an island. And with this new found hope, Ryouta gained just enough strength to propel himself forward towards the island. After what seemed like hours of swimming, Ryouta made it to the island shoreline. There, he walked no more than five steps inland, and collapsed in a heap from exhaustion. As his mind drifted off to sleep, he started to think about Akira, his family, and if this island would even have any people on it at all.

Ryouta listened to the soft crashing of the waves as his eyes slowly closed. "What a peaceful day it is..." He said to himself in a dreary tone. His body was too weak from the swim here to even lift his head from the soft sand. His body chilled to the bone from the cooler temperatures of the island and his wet rags that he wore. He knew that if someone didn't find him soon, he would die of hypothermia.

Whistling, Kane almost felt like a fisherman as he made his way to the sea. He remembered how he himself had washed up on this island just almost two years prior. Had it really been that long? He had been with Hide, too, and they had been protecting their mother together. Thinking of Hide still brought a pang on Kane's heart for reasons he did not know, and thoughtfully Kane fished out the locket he kept under his shirt with his left hand and opened it with his thumb. It click'ed and suddenly Kane wasn't only seeing a dead portrait of his brother posing, something fake, but also all the memories he'd had of him. Moving memories, laughing memories, even crying memories. But Kane was no fool, he knew that what was past was past and that he had to look to the future. Even if he wasn't doing a good job. Not realising that he had stopped halfway through his reminiscing, he closed the locket although it seemed like the hardest thing in the world and looked ahead, just happening to notice a washed up kid on the beach, with shattered wood fragments pooled around him.
Swearing, Kane recognised the signs of near death and started to run towards him. "Dude, are you OK?" he yelled across even as he got closer just to let the guy know that he was coming. When he reached Ryouta his eye took in the various injuries that marred him and knew that he couldn't save him without professional aid. "It's OK dude, I'm gonna take you to the clinic," he said distractedly, thinking of a way he was actually going to do that, since this boy was bigger than him although it was also easily visible that he was younger. It seemed that by now though other people had also noticed the boy as well and together, they carefully took the boy to the clinic.
