“Me selfish? Implausible.” the serpent youth thought to himself. How could he be selfish trying to retain his own body heat? The vixen could easily quit right now and scamper away to some place warmer. The shade wearer too. Already suffering with parasites in his body and willing to put his body in more danger. As smart as the sparkles proved to be, baby snake felt she just didn’t have a glimmer of light in her head this time. To Shisei there was a difference in being selfish and just being smart. In this situation his brain he was smarter for keeping on his clothes. His tongue would have whipped back at this comment, but the righteous beetle would make his voice known first.

An unbiased tone in his voice gave his answer. Then the shade wearer said something that made Shisei pivot his head back slightly at the two.

“I got one for you, snake boy. I got no keys, I got no door, I got no lock. But I hold a yellow treasure. What am I? Your not the only one who can play at these game.”

This person was giving him a riddle? The snake child was not amused at this behavior. Was he trying to show him up? Well Shisei would have to prove who the bigger kid was. At least in the aspect of mind teasers. If one were to account for actual height, the snake child barely made it to the waist of the bug teen. His head turned back around shaking off some of the snow. The gears began to slowly turn for this new question. “No keys, no door, no lock…. That’s hardly something to be called treasure then. Only things of worth are kept behind locked doors.”, his brain thought. Gold orbs began to imagine all the worthless objects of yellow that it could be. Mustard? Maybe the flame of a candle? A box of yellow crayons? No, none of those seemed right. The variety of worthless yellow stuff could be in the thousands. The Orochi youth could not even think of many, because his brain was just about to nod off. “Damn… why couldn’t this person be like that other tall chicken…”. Wait… maybe that is it. Yes, that made better sense than the others.

“The answer would be an egg. It has no key holes, is not a door and cannot be locked. Yet inside an egg is the yolk. Yellow treasure.”

Shisei felt sure he had that one. His face did not turn back to give the spikey hair interloper a conceited look. Instead his feet decided it was time to find a location with warm food or tea. “Heh. You’re right. I’m not the only one that can play these games. But I am the only one here who is actually good at playing these games. I hope that you and that little parasite that came out of your hand are not sharing the same brain. Otherwise…”. Shisei’s voice became inaudible at this point. His tiny, cold frame had already marched off to the entrance of the forest.

The Raiken yawned again and began heading out of the bamboo forest behind the Orochi and next to the new boy. The next riddle wasn't for her apparently and neither was the other boy's. She continued to walk on silently behind snake boy and pondered over possible answers for the two riddles. Then she glared back at the puplish hair of the boy. She was going to retort something back about how he was the only one good at playing such games, but decided to keep quiet, not to break the silence. 'Silence..something so fragile that it's broken when its name is said. Hey, well..there's the answer to the first one!' She smiled. It was so obvious, she hadn't thought about that. Serena wondered if the boy would come up with the right answer later one. Her grey eyes glanced at the Orochi, who had continued to take the lead. She wanted to help him get the answer, but didn't know how. All she could do was follow to the village and get something to eat first. That would help her think more. 'Silence, silence, silence, silence...' As the Raiken walked, she continued to think about the answer in her head, as if she were able to yell it loud enough in her mind, the bug boy would be able to hear or something. Maybe the bugs could do something about it...maybe he controlled them. That would be kind of strange, but then again, she herself could control lightning..though she hasn't practiced in a while.

[Twice the twenty? This is destiny biggrin ]

Well snake boy did find an answer for that easy riddle. Master of riddle, maybe. Insulting his enemy was something harsh, and not to honorable. Shikai had long time ago discovered wisdom.

Shikai had study his Kikai bugs. They shared mind together, altough he didn't know much how to communicate with them at the moment. But he did feeled their ''emotion''...something close to angryness. That he could feel really well. The kikai would snuffer life out of anything. No predator, how big or how strong would do nothing agains't them. In the end, the all falled to death, and to feed the circle of life.

We are to weak at the moment...we will find strength has we learn to know each other. Now...you should focus on finishing your network, so I can finally find serenity. Suffering has it's limit.

Has he though of that, the bugs stopped....seems they where finished with their flesh network. It didn't hurt him anymore, except the bruise he got. He feeled a regain of energy. The fever stopped too, seem's it was caused by the artery and veins wound made by the bugs. They where silent now...sleeping it seems. Silence...if their's something you could break by saying it, it was silence.

''Silence is a blessing...in many case. You should learn to from it, snake boy. Spin your poisened tongue twice before saying something. Because someday, somebody is going to get tired of it.''

That somebody wouldn't be Shikai. He was deeply annoyed by snake boy, but is way of wits did help in learning a few things. If he would just grow more wisdom, he wouldn't be such a pain in the neck.

Unknown to her, Shin was following behind her the entire way to the bamboo forest. Hanabira was far to caught up in her notebook and her ideas to really be aware of the tall boy following her. Instead she continued to review her notes from the previous night. She had been writing down people's personality characteristics and how they operated with others. Hanabira was alright at winning people over with her shy attitude, but she they were brief wins and she couldn't really use her own characteristics on a mission. Shyly asking for an enemy to put down their weapon really wouldn't help. Neither would bashfully asking for information. With a small sigh, Hanabira's breath entered the air causing a light fog to her glasses. She quickly wiped off the steam with the edge of her sleeve.

Once she could see again, Hanabira had come to that she was at her destination. The bamboo forest was a relaxing place to her. However, in the winter time it wasn't the ideal place she thought it was. With a bit of a frown, Hanabira found a dry spot on the grass to sit and think about what she was going over and what she was trying to lead herself to; a conclusion. What type of genjutsu would aid her as she became a genin. She needed a louder voice, a tougher appearance than her freckled face with glasses and a shroud of confidence to veil over her weaknesses. Taking her ink pen, she scratched down her weaknesses and tried to think of something that would cover those up. For her first problem, her weak voice, she needed to think of someone who had a loud commanding voice. Tenmoki-sensei was always in command. She had a stern motherly voice that could be tender when needed. Making her decision on that woman, Hanabira wrote down Tenmoki's traits including the way she spoke and the vocabulary she used.

Satisfied with what she had written down, Hanabira moved on to the next item on her list; a tougher appearance. What was something that was tough for a girl, but not too manly? Who was someone that was strong minded that had the appearance that showed it? Tenmoki Aya had a very strong personality, but she wasn't the type for this specific weakness of Hanabira's. Tategami Maya was definitely the strong minded looking type along with Shuga. But their type of toughness was a barbaric type. The barbaric appearance wouldn't mix well with the speech pattern that Hanabira had already chosen... "Hmm..." the girl hummed to herself as she closed her olive eyes to try and think. Tenmoki's appearance was to robust for Hanabira to duplicate. There was that new Orika girl who had the looks of a farmer, but Hanabira still didn't think the vocabulary would match!

Shin was skillful enough to follow Hanabira without her really noticing. He made sure to step carefully on the ground, watching where his foot would go next and placing it with skill. He followed the girl all the way up to the forest of tall bamboo stalks. It seemed like such a mystical place you would only hear of in story books. Shin had traveled quite a bit, but his travels were mostly through grasslands and deserts. Shin stayed a few meters away from Hanabira as she sat reading out of her book. He found it cute that she hummed to herself while she thought. The lovestruck boy couldn't help but smile at her naive cuteness. She was so peaceful that Shin felt it was a crime to bother her in her own studies, but he truly did need her help. Not sure how to approach her without startling her, Shin threw on his crooked quint-eyed smile as he said gently, "Hanabira."

Already prepared for a jumpy reaction, Shin would be able to hold any giggles that might escape and already had apologies ready to fly! "I'm sorry for interrupting you! I just... Ahhhh..." the boy started, now feeling as if he were a slight burden in asking for help and rather weak for asking her as well. "I really need help in learning the academy techniques. I've fallen behind quite a bit..." Shin admitted unwillingly, but knew that Hanabira wouldn't be one to make fun of him. "I was hoping you weren't too busy to give me some pointers," he said to her, finally opening his eyes to look into hers. He felt a large lump in his throat and his palm began to sweat as he waited for her answer. "I understand if you're busy!" he quickly added on, hoping that he wasn't putting too much pressure on her to say yes.

While looking down at her notes and writing down the positives and negatives of everyone's personalities. Hanabira let out a little jump when she heard someone gently call her name. Her head snapped around so quickly that her glasses almost fell off the bridge of her nose. Pushing them up slightly to see that it was Shinobu standing in front of her, she let out a small sigh of relief, but then felt a little nervous as well. Opening her mouth slightly to speak, no words came out. It was alright that she couldn't speak, because Shin was rambling off what he was doing here. As he spoke, Hanabira found that he was at a small lost of words, which she found cute and it made her smile slightly. He was asking her for help in learning techniques. Hanabira knew most of the techniques in the academy, but what she hadn't learn she had written down in her notebook. The adopted Yamanaka was skilled in genjutsu, but she wasn't too sure where Shin's strength lay.

"Mhm," Hanabira said with a nod of her head. She then began flipping through the pages of her book to find her academy notes while still keeping a finger in the page she had been writing in. "I konw Henge, Bunshin and Nawanuke... But if you want to learn some others, I have it written here too," the girl said bashfully as she turned to the pages with Kawamiri written down on it. Hanabira had not taken part in learning this technique, but she had watched others perform it and asked the teachers about the technique that she had missed out on. "Uhm, what did you want to learn?" she asked him quietly.

Naturally Shin wanted to peak inside the pages of Hanabira's notebook as she filled through it. There was so much fine writing! The Nara could never take notes like she did. Silently, he praised her. "Ah.... Uhm, how about Nawanuke? That's the rope escaping technique right? That would sure come in handy if I were to ever get captured. Haha," Shin said a little nervously, because halfway through saying it, he realized that Hanabira had been captured before and it was probably not a fond memory. That was when Shin had first met Hanabira, was when she got the rope burns... "Uhm, I'll go grab some rope to train with! Be back in a giff," the boy said quickly, turning and sprinting towards town. "Thanks, Hanabira!" he said waving back to her while running. As he turned around, he sighed heavily. 'Dumby,' he said to himself, upset that he had brought up hard memories for the young and fragile girl. Shin wasn't too sure where to get rope from. He knew they'd probably have some down at the docks, but that was a long run to the shoreline. As he thought of somewhere closer, he thought of the Weapon Shop right down town. Maybe he could get something nice for Hanabira since she was taking the time to teach him these techniques...

Tanu had been wandering trying to find one of the students that Shinichi had named off. She had a feeling that all those pansies were at the festival in the center of the village. The Kun Kumo girl didn't even know what the festival was for, but she knew that she didn't want to take part in any of this village's lame celebrations. Having hiked around everyone in the village in order to find something to do, Tanu was now continuing her hike to the bamboo forest. She was in no mood to stay indoors today, but in a mood to roam. If she didn't find anything interesting in these woods, then she may continue into the Forest of Sorrows for some entertainment. Her cousins had abandoned her once again, but she had already fumed about that negative aspect of her life. Picking up a lone bamboo stick, Tanu continued up the path into the forest while hitting the stick against the other bamboo branches. She stopped suddenly when she saw two figures in the forest. Someone who wasn't at the festival? Tanu thought the entire village always celebrated together. She stopped her tapping momentarily to try and get closer to see who it was... As she came near, she was careful not to step on any branches and be as quiet as possible while she tried to listen to the voices and see who it was. Immediately she recognized one laugh. It was one of the voices in this forsaken island that she didn't find completely annoying. Shin was standing talking to a girl. Who was that girl again? Tanu hadn't the slightest clue. She had probably met her once before, but she didn't remember. The reason she couldn't recall is most likely due to the fact that the girl wasn't important enough to remember. Staying low and crouched Tanu watched the two converse, but really couldn't make out what they were saying... Just as Tanu was about to creep closer, Shin ran off! With a look of displeasure on her face, Tanu decided to creep closer to check out this girl...

Already with her first step Tanu made a mistake. She stepped in a bare spot on the ground where some old dried up leaves were. The crinkled under the pressure of her clothed foot and made a noise louder than Tanu liked. Of course it sounded like a natural noise here in the bamboo forest, but there was still a chance that the girl were to notice her. Tanu bit down on her lip as she yelled at herself in her mind. 'You're suppose to be the strongest student here! Don't make a mistake like that again!' she screamed at herself. She was a Kun Kumo and that meant she needed to be perfection! Her cousin Kazuma didn't have a perfect hair or strong bone in his body and what Tanu had seen of her eldest cousin Kana, they had been tarnishing the skills of the Kun Kumo name. Tanu was constantly comparing herself to those two. There wasn't an activity she did without comparing herself to them. They were the eldest. They were suppose to be the prize of the Kun Kumo clan and she was not. She was the youngest in the generation. She was suppose to be a maiden brought up on strong morals and good behavior. That was not the life she wanted. She wanted something more. Everything was a challenge now! Everything was a chance to train and be the strongest! Once she snuck up on this girl, she would jump out and show her just what that meant. Tanu was already plotting her attack on the girl. The first thing she would do is take that notebook from her and investigate it. All Tanu had to do was get close enough to where she could spring out and grab the book before the girl knew what was coming and to do that she had to be agile.

Scoping out the ground in front of her, Tanu studied what was in front of her before she set her foot down. She would keep her green and red eyes focused on the target in front of her. A real shinobi wouldn't remove their eyes from their prey for a second. The target could know that they were being snuck up on and wait for the right moment when the predator looked down to disappear and spring their own attack. Then the predator would become the prey. Tanu grew nervous as she thought of the girl as her prey and she as the predator. An intense feeling came over her as she thought of this as an assassination mission. More than anything would Tanu be willing to be sent on a mission to assassinate a target. She would be an expert in stealth and fatal attacks that would take someone out with one blow. Their was to be pride in everything as a shinobi and Tanu would gloat about anything that she could. As she thought about the upcoming moment of glory she kept the memorized path in front of her and placed her feet in the correct spots where she wouldn't be heard. If she were to ever assassinate someone, she would make it more glorious than this. There would need to be witnesses to spread rumors of her quickness and skill in taking out the target. She wanted a challenge and the more people around was more than a challenge. To assassinate someone at a festival such as the one going on in Shimagakure right now would be what Tanu wanted. Taking out the Kage of this village in front of all those that looked up to him would be the most satisfying kill. To see the look of fear in everyone's eyes as their leader, the strongest of them all, were to fall dead right in front of them. They not knowing who had done it or where it had come from. They would be talking about it, because it would be a memory they could not erase.

Tanu felt anxious. That's what she wanted. She wanted to be that person. To destory something that was so highly looked upon would be the most beautiful thing. 'I WANT THAT!' she screamed at herself as her footsteps quickened and she moved closer to the girl. It was like as if the girl was that goal she had been madly thinking about with these silent steps. If she were able to sneak up on this one girl the Kun Kumo would be able to achieve her goals of glory. There would be nothing stopping her. She would climb to the top and take that trophy kill!

"Crrk!"

All her hopes and dreams she had just gone over... All those emotions and thoughts of glory... It all disappeared with that loud crack of a dried up bamboo stick under her foot. Tanu lost sight of her target as she dropped her chin down to her chest. That loud noise, which was louder than the leaves she had rustled. It had been the sound of utter failure. She thought of her assassination daydream and how glorious it had been and instantly she put in that one mistake. The one loud crack that would give her away. Someone more skilled than her sneaking right behind her carrying a deadly weapon and slitting her throat before she could even get in position to launch her attack. Being found out by everyone and being held out to dry as an example of failure. Tanu's breath quivered in the cold air as her anxiousness sunk into her stomach and made her feel sick.

Tanu was no better than Kazuma. Was she ignorant? Was she really that weak when she thought she was strong? That Shinichi could be right. Had the others in the Academy really grown stronger than her? The snake boy named Shisei who she had defeated so easily, was he really a challenge to her now? Tanu felt as if she were spiraling downwards to where Kazuma was. She was right there on the level with the good-for-nothings. Kana was so high above her now. She knew that he was a rank called genin here in Shimagakure. He had graduated from the academy where she had not. Ignorance was Tanu's weakness and now she realized that. All she had used against Kana was brute strength. What were his other skills? Had he acquired the fire techniques used with the sack gland that their clan was so famous for? Could Tanu really face up against that.

"..."

Thinking for a moment, Tanu thought of the difference between Kazuma and Kana. All three of them had been so alike with their pranks, lack of structural training and high and mighty appeal towards everything else. What happened to Kana that didn't happen to Kazuma? With her mouth becoming dry, Tanu tried to figure it out as she stared down at the ground where her foot stood upon the cracked bamboo stick. Her question was racing through her mind and she wanted to ask Kana. She wanted to know what he did to not fall as low as Kazuma. What had he done? Tanu closer her mind for a moment. She saw Kazuma standing alone and Kana standing alone. What was different about the two? What did Kana have that Kazuma didn't? She thought about all their equipment. They both started off with all the same things. They were both given the same training, but when Tanu thought about it... Kana wasn't really standing alone. The Kage, Ichi, and his partner, Aya, they aided him in his training. When he was looking down like Tanu was now, I bet Aya cheered him on and Ichi corrected him in what he was doing wrong and told him how to do it right. When Kazuma was looking down like this, there was just the feeling of failure and distance between him and his goal and how the gap was so big! That must be the difference.

Tanu rose her head and looked around her. The girl standing with the notebook in hand didn't look too much like prey now. She was still a target, but a different one. Looking back and around, Tanu thought of Shin running off back to the village. The time she had learned the most and gained the most experience here in the village is when she was being tutored by the Nara. Even if he was physically weaker than Tanu, he still helped her and gave her advice in how to better herself. Right now she just wanted to give up and not continue towards her goal. She needed to set a different goal for herself. Tanu wasn't quite sure what it was, but she knew she needed to change that dream of hers. Lifting up her foot off the cracked bamboo, she placed it to the side she should've put it. All her thoughts of glory had led her to mess up. Those dreams had led her to failure and miscalculations. What dreams would replace those? What else could she do besides view that girl as her prey. That girl was definitely weaker than her, there was no mistaking it! Tanu had once stood up to bullies for girls like her, but she had been told to let the weak become strong, so Tanu had become a bully herself in order to pick on kids to force them to find some kind of inner strength, but none of them ever did! Except for that Raiken boy that had stood up to her in the Weapon Shop. Kiba. How strong had he become? Tanu had troubles facing him the last time they came face to face. What was he like now that she had been moping in her room by herself? He has probably been growing just the same way as Kana had grown to become a genin.
