This was not good. One of his Sergeants was quickly getting out of control, and it didn't seem like he was completely conscious of it.
"Listen to your buddy, Warren. Don't try to clear the area yourself, if you get jumped inside one of those buildings we can't help you. Just stay put until we get a confirmation of the plan from the Monterey.
If you take a single step closer to those buildings, I'm afraid I'll have to label you unfit for duty and take you up on charges of insubordination. Is that what you want, Sergeant Warren?
Do you want to risk everything we've worked for by letting your curiosity get the better of you?"

Seth cut in to the conversation between Henry and Dansmith, after Lee gave his orders, "Henry, fall back to Dansmith's location now. You're not going in there alone, no one is. If you want to die Marine, there are better times to do it. Get your a** back up there and get on lookout duty. Now."
It was an automatic response to the situation.

Turning his attention to the Captain Seth gave him a very serious face, "Henry's strong willed sir. Permission to join Dansmith and Henry on lookout duty in order to keep them under control. Dansmith might try to deal with him, but Henry's his superior." Seth was silent for a bit and then added, "Henry's a good soldier sir, that's been proven. He's just...young, Sir."

That was no excuse, and Seth knew it.

Seth... The same Lieutenant that had tried to sneak into the pelicans with armor that didn't belong to him, now trying to instill responsibility in one of the sergeants? Interesting. Maybe he wasn't as inflammatory an element as Lee thought.
Lee opened a private channel to the lieutenant. He wanted the situation taken care of fast, before anyone else got strange ideas about the mission.
"Have Dansmith calm Warren down. Tranq him if it's necessary, but try to get why he's so bent on getting into those huts out of him first.
He's not acting normally, and Warren is usually one of the more reliable types. If it's something making him act this way, I want it out. Now."

Seth nodded at the Captain and walked off a bit, out of hearing distance of the bulk of the company.
Opening a private channel with Dansmith Seth began, "Dansmith, you've got orders to get Henry calmed down and away from those buildings. As it stands you may have to tranq him," Seth knew Dansmith would be trouble and at the most suspected that would get him hurt, that's why he had him paired Dansmith. But this? The Captain suggested there might be something else eating at Henry, this was cause for concern. "Let's not let it come down to that Dansmith. I don't want Henry to be alienated from Able company. As it stands only the Captain and I know about this. Get a handle on him." Taking a breather Seth added, "You're also under orders to investigate why Henry's so persistent to go to those huts. There might be something up...Get ready to tranq him if you have to." Seth felt the implications in his next statement.
"Keep him from those huts Dansmith. If all else fails...Radio in and we'll come and take care of him ourselves. But let's keep this private. No need to spook all of Able."

Given Henry's display upon landing...it certainly would have an impression on the other Marines.

Seth headed back towards the Captain, giving him a look to let him know the orders have been relayed.
But there was something bothering Seth. It was this nagging thought that just wouldn't let go.

What if others began acting like Henry?

Warren slowly backed up, and when he got close enough, still not entirely in control of his faculties, Ashton quickly scurried out, grabbed him, and retreated back to their lookout position. Once there, he administered a quick dose of a mild depressant, making the Master Sergeant's brain resume entirely normal function.

"Sir, I have Master Sergeant's brain waves back to normal. I detected a wierd interference in his brain waves. Oddly enough, they originated inside the building he was so hell-bent on getting into. That building may warrant an investigation, but I must advise against the Master Sergeant's participation, sir."

Warren found Ashton dragging him by the arm and he was truly pissed off. Ashton next comment pissed him off more. He suddenly remembered his earlier Emotional outburst in the briefing room and he calmed himself this time. "I'm fine sir, just a little dumb struck by this place" Warren lied. He pulled his arm away from Ashton. "Won't happen again sir" He said and turned off the com. Ashton might have been right to worry, but he was still pissed. He gave Ashton a death glare under his helmet. He then turned around and sat on the hill overlooking the structures.

Lee watched as Warren's radar blip move slowly back to it's lookout position when Seth returned and confirmed that the message had gotten across. Now that Warren was under control, Lee put a nav marker on the hut the Sergeant had attempted to get into. If something inside had affected the Sergeant's judgement, the Captain would make sure he found out what it was.
Opening a new com channel to Warren, he tried to sound as comforting as possible.
"Good choice, soldier. Now if there's any reason in particular you wanted to get into that shed so bad, feel free to share. Gut feelings tend to be right about most things, but we can't let the occasional outburst get us all killed."

Ashton realized he was currently not the Masster Sergeant's favorite person, but his job wasn't to keep friendships alive, it was to keep people alive. And if that meant he had to keep the Master Sergeant from harming himself, so be it.
"Master Sergeant, I must insist you stay here. Call it 'Doctor's Orders' or what have you, but I think we can both agree that those buildings want more from you than your curiousity. Lets sit tight until we get more intel, neh?"

Nodding at the transmission, Seth addressed the Captain, "He has Henry under control sir, he detected a frequency...or something interfering with Henry's brainwaves." Seth thought a little bit at Henry's words, "Henry said he was fine...But I've heard people tell better lies Sir. Not that it was one."

Seth turned on a private channel, "Try and find out what he was thinking Dansmith. But don't press him, if he breaks down we're all going to be in worse shape."

Seth addressed the Captain again, "Sir...I think we should start considering the possibility that this whole thing is an ambush. If other marines start being affected by this...frequency...We might all be in serious trouble Sir." His voice was hushed, and while there wasn't much they could do about it--if it was an ambush-- and despite it being a 'what if?' scenario...Seth still shared his thoughts with the Captain.

"As I said earlier sir, I was just going to look for hostile action" Warren replied. "everything is A'ok, sir" He said and shut off the com. He knew hanging up on the officer was rude, but he didn't care to much.

Ashton was saying something over his shoulder and he didn't feel like hearing it. He could feel his emotions spiking and he was trying to keep his temper under control. "Ashton, it's as I said earlier I was just sweeping the buildings" He replied. Hoping if he said it enough, people would buy the story and stop questioning it.

His head began to hurt again and he took some of Ashton's pills from earlier out. He laid them on the ground and took off his helmet. He took the pills and swallowed them with some water from his canteen. He decided for the moment to keep his helmet off and let the air sooth his face. "You ever wonder what the Forerunner's were doing this whole time" Warren asked Ashton. His view not breaking from the horizon.

Lee crossed his arms and thought hard about what was happening. The rest of Able seemed to be in normal condition, and was still waiting for a proper set of orders and confirmation from the Monterey. Whatever had affected Henry had targeted him specifically.
"I don't think it's something we have to worry about, since it's effects have only manifested in Sergeant Warren and not Ashton. However, if this "frequency", as you call it, begins to manifest in any of the other marines, then we're pulling back a few miles and sending in a recon probe."

Seth nodded, agreeing with Lee's reasoning. "Yes sir."

Seth gave Lee another nod--it was nice being out in the field, no saluting was necessary-- and began to pace around the now relaxed Able company.
His intention was to effectively evesdrop, get a feel for how they were holding up.

They were too relaxed for Seth's taste, of course he was a bit edgy, had been since birth. Not so much edgy, as...distrusting. This place was beautiful and peaceful.

But if it was so peaceful, why wasn't anyone living here? The Flood would have cannibalized it and the Covenant would have pillaged it for all they could find.
There had to be caretakers of some kind. But it was empty.

Stopping by a flower Seth's concern grew. If this place was empty these flowers would have died. There was no water to help them grow.

They were too perfect. If there was rain water of some-kind the dominant plant life here would have taken over. Along with that this entire facility would be overgrown.

"Too perfect." Seth mumbled.

"Yes, sir. Tapping into the installations NET Base now."

. . . . .

"I'm getting readings that suggest a cryogenics facility inside, and from what I can tell there's someone inside..."

. . . . .

"Life support systems read fully operational; the being is still alive. Move in and secure our package, then get out."

. . . . .

"Wait."

. . . . .

"Large numbers of contacts moving in fast from the south! Sentinels, sir! I count 2,709 moving at approximately 159.33 km/h on an intercept course!"

. . . . .

"This is Commander Hammer; hold your fire, I repeat hold your fire. Readings indicate non-hostile intentions. Stay sharp Marines!"
PostPosted: Sun Jan 27, 2008 8:24 pm

Ashton overheard a mumble on a careless COMM Frequencey.
"Too Perfect indeed, sir. But I imagine that most of this Installation is serviced from the "belowdecks", that is, the areas further towards the exterior. This floor we're on is clearly artificial, and most likely hollow.
Honestly, do you think such feats beyond these masters?"

The signals from Angel and the orders from Hammer snapped Ashton's attention to the south, and there he beheld an ominous and massive display of force: a cloud of Crab-Like sentinel security drones, still too far away to identify, but still, he knew what they looked like. He'd seen the survey vids.

"Uh, sir? You're sure these wierd things that we know next-to-nothing about have no intention of making us dead, sir?" He radioed uneasily.

Over the com he heard, "stay sharp and hold fire". Hold fire from what he asked himself. He pulled himself off the ground and put his helmet on. He looked around and saw a large cloud of gray heading there way. "What the hell is that?"
