Tweek ~At the sound of the howl, Yero perked up his inky muzzle immediately, his ears flagging upward to stand erect. He hesitated for but a moment, wine colored eyes scanning over the foreign male once more in a cursory glance. But he was eager to leave. Neka had not shown any aggressive behavior and didn't seem likely to. Both Elphaba and Soul seemed friendly with the brown wolf, so Yero would trust his packmates. He had the decency to feel a twinge of sheepishness for his curt behavior, but then when had he ever adhered to any social conduct other than driest formality other than with Whinn? Whinn. Right. He rose himself to his feet and rumbled a sort of goodby--well, more an announcement of his departure as he didn't make eye contact with any of the other wolves. His tail trailed low for a moment as his short legs quickly carried the compact wolf in the direction of his mate, then rose into a soft wag of anticipation. He gave a quick succession of low barks, apparently not feeling like a howl, and was quick to appear in his beloved's vision. " You called?" He wuffed with a roguish grin, the wag in his tail increasing. (>>; Tweek I totally forgot about the rp... haha...*replies* don't eat me o0o; ) Her ears piqued forward when she heard the barking. Turning her head to teh direction of the sounds, her tail started into a slow wag, knowing the voice to be none other than Yero's. As the ebony wolf parted through the trees and came into her sight, her tail picked up the pace as did his, she observed. She was happy to see him since he hadn't been around a lot. But did she honestly want to talk about the business of picking up and moving? Starting a family? She didn't know. Her ears quivered as she hesitated. Hearing his sly remark, she couldn't help but smile, her eyes meeting his eagerly. "I haven't seen you in a while..." she said with a slightly mocking grin. "Forgotten about me?" Her eyes offered a teasing light to her words, but there was an underlying seriousness. She didn't want to avoid the subject she'd been so pressed to discuss, but at the same time she didn't want anything to do with it. Perhaps he would just... read her mind. He was good at that.

(( Heehe, thanks, Shia--I'm back! :3 Phew. This is shaping up to be one crazy summer.
Jade, I'm not sure what issues you're facing in your personal life right now (aside from your move) but from what I gather something terrible is happening to someone you love. I'm so sorry. I wish you and your friend the best. heart ))
The brown pelted shewolf flicked her ears, knowing Neka was right. If Elphie was still holding a grudge against the pups--and from the bitter taste in her mouth she knew she must be--she would have to let it go. Ever since puphood Elphie had held onto things too long after they should have been resolved. Her jealousy of her brother, her anger toward her first family for not coming to find her, her envy of Selia's great beauty, her anger at Feanaro's arrogance, her hurt at Devvyl's rejection--and her new fear of Neka's. It was time to let go. Let it all go. As she felt her mind heave a tremendous sigh, a heavy exhale, she felt her internal burden lighten considerably. This was now. And it was time to stop living in the past and start living in the moment.
"We traveled together, yes," She answered Soul's question ambiguously, and for a moment it seemed she was going to brush it off this way, ignoring the real question her friend was asking. Then, as if in a dream, she added. "As for being together... I--Well. No.. I think. But it would be--nice..." Her cadence was light, fleeting, and she felt a tingly feeling inside. She gave Neka a shy little smile, slipping her body down to the ground before shifting her gaze to an indefinite space between the surrounding trees.
Instead of the expected awkward feeling Elphie felt oddly blank--A strange sort of nirvana fueled by her relief. How long had she had feelings for Neka? A while.. His roguish charm had caught her quick. Now she had done her part to set the wheels in motion as it were. Granted, it was a long shot short of a tremendous serve, but the ball was in his court.

((*stabs gaia for eating her LONG post*))
Neka's calm expression was horribly conflicting with his inner confusion and uncertainty at the question, unsure how to answer exactly without making a fool of himself. Luckily, Elphie had answered with much more poise than he probably could have, yet it still had a lingering quality that made him feel horribly self-concious. He couldn't second the motion aloud though, finding the eyes of strangers to be unnerving, so he almost pretended as though the question had never been asked, except that his eyes leveled with the shewolf's briefly in understanding.
He all but slithered across the grass to join the brown wolfess, carefully stuck his nose in the back of her neck fur, and carefully began to kneed through it in a grooming sort of motion.

(( 4laugh Awwwwwwrr.. kodak moment! *whips out camera* ))
Had Elphaba been a cat she would have purred. As it was, her throat clenched in the beginnings of a happy whine, though the presence of the others softened the sound. She canted her muzzle towards the fragrant earth at Neka's ministrations, her green eyes glistening. This wasn't what she had steeled herself for. This was.. much better than that! Ripples of giddiness washed through her insides and she shifted her bulk slightly to lean into the brown coated male, the side of her body pulsing with a flush of warmth. A familiar nervous feeling was gnawing at her stomach, but instead of the ache it was before, it was simply..a presence.
Elphie flattened her ears full against her skull in gratitude, her eyes catching Soul's as she gave her friend a tentative lopsided grin. A voice inside told her this was the time to make small talk, but Elphie ignored it. She was enjoying herself far too much.
Neka hadn't replied with words. But this--this was a start. A start of.. something.

(( Not a problem in the least, Les. xD *luffs upon* ))
The compact male pranced to his beloved, his whole body in a happy wag. Whinn did seem to get him in the most undignified state, not that his actions had ever been especially eloquent. His ears flicking back, he licked her cheeks in greeting with a rumbling whine of affection. "For--gotten?" Yero stammered in response to her airy teasing. "Never!" He protested, perhaps a little too fervently, as his muscles tightened at the thought, giving his face a drastically sobering look. The young adult over-corrected his posture, standing tall, then tilting his muzzle down once more to touch noses with Whinn. The pretty shewolf was Yero's only, and he would tell her so.
He plopped down onto his haunches, still touching noses with her as a grin crossed his face. "What would I be without you?" His question was genuine, he realized. Whinn.. was the only thing the male had. He was loyal as he could be to the pack; he owed that to dear Selia. But Selia had a mate now, and children of her own. Yero hardly knew the pups--and come to think of it, he hardly knew the rest of the pack. Whinn.. was his escape. The one who had somehow pried off his shell, and continued to do so every time he saw her. If there was a true Yero, it was the one Whinn saw. And no one else.
Yero glanced into Whinn's dark doe-eyes and his ears tilted forward in puzzlement. It wasn't that they were lacking their usual life--it was.. they seemed almost to be masking something. Something different than usual "Love, is everything alright?" The male asked softly, his oddly low voice losing its usual rumble.

The male snuffled against the thick pelt that his nose was currently buried in, gently but purposefully removing a tuft of loose hair that he blew into the wind and let tumble away into the grass.
A sudden, though not uncommon, throb of pain in his back drew him away from concentration and he grimaced slightly at it, leaning forward so his chin was resting on her neck for a moment until the soreness ebbed away. His chest rumbled deepily with a sign of relief as it did finally leave, but he found himself too comfortable in the current position he was in to really be all that enthusiastic about moving.
He did though, only because his sense of propriety was overwhelmingly demanding it despite his...longing?...to just rest that way. Elphie hadn't seemed to mind his presense...hell, she'd even SAID she didn't, but something nagged at him in the back of his mind. "Together"...it sounded so final but so enticing at the same time. Sadly, Neka hardly felt worthy of such intentions, let alone dare to nurse the very idea.
What was it that she saw in him anyway? He was hardly anything to look at with his slightly humped back, his average brown pelted hide, and a less than powerful build that mimiced that of a lanky adolescent.
Neka exhaled slowly in a long, heaving sigh and let his head rest on his paws so his eyes were still in full view of the femme. These eyes were trained on Elphie's as though he was trying to find the answers them without speaking a word.

As Neka's body winched with what Elphie reasoned must be a sting from his injury, the shewolf grit her teeth. As she had done in such times before, she held her tongue and somewhat brusquely overlooked his pain, never skilled in the ways of confronting agony, physical or otherwise. Still, her face softened, her brow receding slightly toward her ears, her heart radiating what she could only hope was empathy, as she splayed herself slightly to create a more comfortable plane with her back.
Elphie shook herself lightly as Neka changed posture, both disappointed and relieved for similar reasons as the male. She turned him, a cursory glance admiring--not for the first time--the way their coats seemed to wash together at the edges, earth meeting earth. Her green eyes met his and she cocked her head to the side with a smile. An ear cocked forward puckishly as if to ask 'What?'

Neka exhaled slowly, letting the grass beneath his muzzle rustle with the gentle wind that spilled from his nostrils, and blinked slowly before lifting his head to lick at a forepaw in a very docile manner, forcing him to look away from her for a moment. Now he wished it was just the two of them so perhaps they could take care of a pressing issue now that had been brought up by a very innocent question.
It was his throat now that was parched, yet it wasn't truely from thirst. Still, it plagued him enough to want to quench it and perhaps Elphie would join him...they could settle things once and for all.
The male slowly moved to his paws, stretching his back gently to ease it back into use before setting off to the river, then gave the she-wolf warm smile that reflected brightly in his coppery gold eyes. "Ehm goin' ta get eh drink..." he said slowly, letting the statement hang in a way that was an open invitation for her to come along too if she so wanted.

Elphie's eyes flashed as the male rose. This was an opportunity she wasn't going to waste. She cast a glance towards Soul and Isaac, then regretted it. Sliding to her feet, Elphie knew they would know why she was following, but for propriety's sake she mumbled: "Yeah.. I'm thirsty too.." Never mind that Elphie has visited the stream just a few minutes before to quench her thirst. Never mind that her friend and the other male would see through her words. This would be a chance to talk to Neka about.. about what she had been avoiding for some time.
Oddly, now that the moment was in sight it didn't seem as bad as Elphie had always imagined. The wolf ruffled herself once more, as if bracing herself, then trotted after Neka, a little more quickly than usual, fearing the wolf called Isaac might make a biting comment if she lingered too long.
As the trees surrounded the two, shielding them from the others temporarily, Elphie let a breath gust out quietly. This was it. As her large paws carried her toward the stream, she focused only on flushing out the stings of doubt that were beginning to n** at her mind.

Neka padded quietly just a little bit ahead of Elphie, gaze focused ahead to where the stream would appear through the trees, his ears turned slightly backwards to catch the light puff of a sigh given off from the shewolf. He supposed he should perhaps say something, but it was hard still for him to understand exactly Elphie's motives behind her offhanded comment back there under the eyes of strangers (well, strangers to him anyway).
So, once they reached the river, he bent down to lap passively at the water, his eyes wandering to focus on the reflection of the wolfess should she get close to the water's edge.

*great swell of soap opera music* Elphie watched Neka drink, hovering closer to the stream. She avoided the golden reflection of his eyes, but knew he was watching her as she opened her mouth, as if to speak. The words came a moment later. "I--Sorry about that..." She trailed off and there was a lingering silence, but she knew she was going to finish what she had started, even if she had to pause and regather herself after every word. And she practically did: "Back there. Neka, I've been--quite fond of--you." Her green eyes hazed over as she focused on the horizon. "For a while, now."
There. It was out. The worst was over. It was downhill from here. The shewolf glanced skywards. The sun was beginning to set, giving the landscape a rosy tint, and Elphie moved her gaze to focus on the dying light's reflection near the other side of the stream. "You've been.. a good friend to me. In a time when I didn't have much else. And now I feel..." Her voice trailed off, not able to say it again quite yet. "Well. You know," She seated herself, tucking her plumed tail tight against her haunches, her front claws digging into the earth as if to ground herself.

Neka lifted his chin from the water, letting droplets hang from the whiskers of his muzzle briefly before he licked them clean and turned slowly around so his back was to the water and his gaze now directed on the female...or rather the air above her as his eyes gained a far-away look to them.
"Eh..."
The single grunt hung awkwardly in the air as he parted and licked his lips hesitantly, searching for the proper way to go about this. He was inwardly glad that she'd made the first step; had she been waiting on him, nothing would have probably come out of their friendship except for maybe silent resentment at his own uncertainty and possibly jealousy if she had moved on without him. Still, he should have known better...it was she who'd asked him to come along to her pack in the first place, and he was sure if he'd rejected the offer that things would have gone horribly wrong between the two of them.
He wanted to tell her exactly how he felt about her...feelings he'd been pretty good at keeping supressed, but instead he felt horribly insecure right then. What exactly did one say at a time like this?
"Dun...dun be sorry," he managed, forcing himself not to choke on the words. "Tha's not somethin' ta be sorry ova'."
Well, it was a start...

The muscles in the shewolf's face stiffened, her ears canting to the side gradually, before swiveling back towards Neka. For a moment the female floundered, unsure what to make of her friend's response. This was only the second time Elphie had had feelings like this, and both times she had voiced them awkwardly. For a moment, a feeling of panic overwhelmed her. Had she learned nothing the first time? Had she gone about it the wrong way--twice?
Elphie pursed her lips and thought of backpedaling, but the trepidation receded as she realized Neka had not been negative in his reply. That in itself was positive. Calm down. She ordered herself. There was hope. No door had been shut. And one had opened that Elphie hadn't seen at first. The female tilted her muzzle towards the male, her bottle green eyes searching his. "You mean--" She cleared her throat. "--you don't mind?"
