Erik had been jerked back to reality by Takeshi's yell. After Kayla passed through him to confront the other, which was a very unsettling experience, he summoned a Firebat to explode on the zombie's face chest, covering it in unholy flames.

Erik didn't have an answer.

Erik was not happy with the chastisement, but he knew he deserved it. He took hold of the Beast fully and directed it, making sure none of the zombies made it into a blind spot. How could he have been so stupid? Of course the Beast wasn't going to protect him, it would just kill at random when left to its own devices.

When Takeshi began chanting it became a slaughterhouse. He could see Kayla herding them in and concentrated on the left gates, crushing or pulling apart anything that tried to come through. Soon the test was over and they were given five minutes. Erik released the Beast, not wanting to waste energy controlling it while there was nothing to kill. He mimicked Kayla and sat where he was. He was determined to stay ready for the next challenge.

Siber was, to say the very least, pissed. Once Takeshi lit up the spiritual control centers on the zombies, he completely forewent magic- besides, the evocation, since it wasn't his specialty, was wearing him out. Instead, he pumped the false energy drawn from his emotion into his physical blows, using the little he knew of martial arts so he could preserve his spiritual energy. The zombies crumpled as he struck them- perhaps he was bad at range, but in melee, against something as slow as a zombie, he couldn't miss. After Takeshi's fireball, he joined the other two on the ground and entered as close to a meditative state as he had ever come- it was not hard, given the adrenaline that, as it left, caused him to shudder for a full minute.

Slowing his unsteady breathing, he felt along that fabric of light and darkness around him. The lights dimmed very slightly as he began using the short time he had to drain energy from it and replace what he had lost.

have to do it. Besides, focus on the good side- they were both there for a short time. I already have ideas how to help it.>

Siber sighed. He did remember that one short moment when he saw both dæmons protecting him from the onslaught. It had been a glorious moment of triumph, before he very quickly owed his life to Takeshi and Sindhlot. He sent Leo and Firage a grateful thanks.

They quietly awaited the next trial, Siber slowly regaining his strength while Keldan sifted through his memories.

((Uh, Joe, could you blank those? Fight's over since end of the last page. We (I) just assumed you were in it. We're having downtime (read: I'm having homework and no time to make a full-size post) until Legion returns to assign the next thing.))

Takeshi simply lie on his back, relaxing his muscles ********, that was crazy," he commented, still a little winded. He and Kayla had carried a large part of the fight, he thought. It was fair for him to be out of breath. But then, Siber had also been dropping the zombies bare-handed. But he'd had the weak points visible...

Takeshi decided to stop thinking for a moment and just relax, dropping his current train of thought.

((Both posts, Joe. Both posts. >_<

And Paul. Paul. Are you present? Post dammit! xd ))

"Not bad," Legion commented. The assembled warlocks looked around for him. He was not present - at least, not in body. He continued. "Listen, now. Through the door across from the room's entrance, there is roomful of lesser demon-like creatures - corrupted humans, to be precise. Or at least, they were at some point along the way. We now call them them Forsaken. They're as close as we can get to a normal human assisting us. They're a dime a dozen, totally expendable, and easily revive-able. Anyway." He demonstrated the demonic tendency towards tangential changes in topic, it seemed. "You're going to assault their position." When the warlocks looked, the previous three doors had been, rather conspicuously, replaced with a single large wooden door.

"Keep in mind," he continued, "They are equipped with simple magic - on an order of magnitude with yours - and mostly weapons such as knives. Keep in mind, this is easily enough to kill you. And two more warnings - first, there is one Forsaken capable of a Chameleonic. Second, you're attacking a fortified position with an unknown number of hostiles, each capable of individually killing you. You will maintain awareness of your surroundings, and Sindhlot? If someone does something that would get themselves killed, no helping bail them out this time. You are not to participate in the trials. Just stay nearby, be on standby, and wait for my orders. If they're going to protect each other, it's up to them. Not you."

The door's edge glowed red briefly. A wave of malicious cruelty indicated Legion had just tampered with it.

"The door opens in two minutes," Legion added. "You have until that much time is expired to plan."

"Good luck," he finished. You could practically hear him grinning sadistically.

((All right, all right...calm down lol.))

Joe stood in front of the others. "We need to be cautious. That Chameleonic could easily be what brings us down. We also need to be focused on defending ourselves as we attempt to infiltrate their position. What I think we should do is use one of us to look for nothing but that Chameleonic and bring it down. Less stress for the rest of us."

"As a shadow thaumaturge, I can set up a ward to take down the Chameleon first. It might incapacitate me on other spell-casting, though, so I would need moderate cover if I did it. Not to brag, but I'm very much in to planning, so I'll run this by you as fast as possible and if you have significant objections, shout out.
"Kayla, your shadow work is fast, but I think evocation will have a significant advantage here- use the draconic summon. They'll be attacking a lot. Takeshi, I want you to go in first, with me. Hit them hard and fast; make an impression and guage their defenses. The rest is common sense, I think- don't go alone, keep an eye out for yourself, all that jazz. Kayla... what exactly can the scaled form do?"
He knew he couldn't account for everything- most planning had had more than two minutes prior to this, and he didn't know what the battleground looked like. He didn't like general plans, but specifics were a little out of the question.
He had started casting the Chemeleonic ward the instant Keldan heard about the Chameleon. It worked kind of like a search-and-destroy machine, within a certain range. As soon as it saw someone with a Chameleonic, it would destroy their shield, and Keldan had developed a twist on it that imploded the energy on their shield, because it had to go somewhere- why not back into the person?

"Paul. Wake up."

Linda and Josh were standing over Paul.

"Another Warlock is arriving today, our scouts report. Also, we've moved all of your relatives to safe locations. We expect that once he realizes you're assisting us, he'll move against them as punishment," Josh explained. "As for the Warlock, he should be arriving around ten-ish. He's also coming by plane, means that if we plan to capture him at the airport, we're risking direct confrontation, but that we also have no other choice. What do you and Linda think?"

Linda waited for Paul to speak.

"Maybe we could, you know, let them dress first," commented Alan. Linda was in loose pajamas with a large number of stylized ducks scattered across them.

"Ah. Good point," Josh agreed, backing off to wait for that. There was a bathroom by the entrance to their room.

"I like it, more or less," Takeshi commented. "However. A few questions. First, how far can the ward reach? Second, can the Chameleonic user detect it? Third, can you cast it at a distance? As in, placing it inside the room from here?"

"In that order? About two yards, yes, and yes, I can get about ten feet of distance," Siber answered.

"All right. I figure we should flesh it out a little. We don't know what we're going into, exactly. It could be a room the size of the mansion, a series of rooms, or a cramped corridor, or combinations of all of those. Therefore, I figure we should attempt to establish a sort of 'forward' base just beyond the door, with a wind-wall the full way around and your anti-Chameleonic ward creating a perimeter he won't be able to enter. Since he won't be able to enter that zone I'll need you guys to cover me as I use my gun to take out the Chameleonic-user."

"And how do you propose to do that?" inquired Joe.

"Simple," Takeshi answered. "Third eye. Think about it. If I can observe the patterns and flows of magic with it - which I can - I should be able to just put a shell or two in him and take him down before he realizes he's spotted. Kayla, I think if we have you flank them via a shadow step after that, we can throw them into a state of confusion, at which point we can use small fireballs and such to pin them down until we can take them out. That, of course, assumes we have room for that... if not, we'll just stick to Siber's general plan. Any objections or additions?"

"Sounds like fun. If you want, I can leave a space out of the ward for you if you think the Chameleon might see you targeting him and Erik can spin out something like a Chameleonic on you. Other than that, I like it. I guess... Joe, can you set up the wind wall as we're going in? And Erik, you probably know that having your death-monkey-thing set on 'kill everyone who isn't us' is the best choice, as far as I can tell, unless you'd rather use shadow magic."
He started moving the ward across the room and past the door. After a squeeze from the magic surrounding it, it passed through to the other side. He could feel the stress of maintaining it that far away and didn't dare call up a dæmon until it's job was done.
Keldan warned as the ward wavered for an instant. Siber caught it in time and waited for the signal to go.

Kayla simply nodded her consent. She had begun channeling Oscurfillius again, and, like he, was less inclined to speak than usual. Oddly, she found herself exhiliarated by the prospect of further battle. She wasn't entirely sure how much of that was her, and how much of that was the demon, but wither way it was fairly surprising. She stood and picked up the humerus with which she'd been beating zombies, as well as her watch. As she looped it through a belt loop, she realized that her clothes were still on. This was a little surprising, given that she had only meant to phase her body through Erik. She wasn't even aware that the field of intangibility could be projeted. she filed this information away, along with a warning to herself that the effort of making anything larger than a shirt, pants, and some underwear intangible might just kill her.

Joe nodded at Siber. "Not a problem." He immediately began conjuring his energy inside himself, preparing to release it.

Joe grunted at Roland, then said, "Takeshi. After we've eliminated the Chameleonic, is the wind shield necessary? I can still do other magic, but a sustained shield will require a lot of focus, so I won't be of much use in a fight if I need to keep holding it in place."
PostPosted: Tue Sep 25, 2007 8:41 pm

"The wind shield shield is to keep any magic away from us. I tested it a little this morning, it can alter a fireball's course. Once we can see any source of danger, though, we can deal with it individually. So no, once he's down, we won't need you to sustain it," Takeshi replied. "If any of you think we should open the door now, let us know and go ahead. Siber, maybe you, you can pull the door open and take cover behind it while you sustain your ward?" he suggested.

Joe began moving his hands in a way reminescent of the wind he would be shaping. "Ready whenever you guys are." He faced the door and focused his power.
