((no response from the Djinni?))
Joe hesitated on the stairs. "Actually...just stay here." He held up a hand. "No. Seriously. I know you want to help, but believe me, you can't. This is too high for you right now." He turned and continued running.

((For references to proper raising of a dragon and possible anatomical hints, follow this link: Dragon User's Manual)) Thank you."I'm a very creative person who has a wonderful network. ((Verizon)) Joe!" he yelled, hearing the other crashing down the stairs, "take this and get it out of this house without hurting it! This dæmon will," he lowered his voice politely, "if she pleases," and he raised it again, "follow you to keep everything intact. Do it now!" He didn't dare toss the box, given the accuracy of Helmsborough's chains. Centauri, I need help; you're the only one who can fly me somewhere. Just prepare me; I'm ready. Siber quickly began with the incantation, knowing he only needed it for a short time.

With a little burst of air, Fyrin went right over the dragon's tail. One advantage of having no flesh was that your weight dropped like a stone. The other advantage was that your supposed "muscles" were fueled purely by the soul in the bones. When he landed, he made a decision. The underbelly should be weak. The earth suddenly heaved; a very sharp pillar of rock burst up from under the dragon, straight for its stomach. Fyrin paused momentarily, reflecting that all this magic was draining his thaumaturgical work on the bandages. Hm. Joe heard Siber's words as he came down the stairs, stepping off on the ground floor. "Hey Jon," he said easily, flicking a two-finger salute at the Avatar. "Long time no see. How ya been?" As he spoke, he walked towards Siber. He looked completely at ease, although in reality he was frantically making sure his Patron Djinn knew exactly how little he wanted to be killed.

Siber hunched protectively over the box, eyeing Helmsborough uneasily as Joe took his sweet time getting to him. "Joe, now is not a time to take it easy! Get this Darkness-damned box and get it out of here!"

Joe raised an eyebrow as he stepped up to Siber. For him to be so...well, emotional at all, really, was surprising. Something must be wrong. Growing serious, Joe took the box and began to back away.

"Joe, that box contains the ashes of Helmsborough's dead lover! I can't fly on a moment's notice; you can. Take it out of this building so that you can lure him away so that we can sever his connection to the Heart of Darkness." He said all of this underneath his breath, then jumped up by the side of the stairs and jabbed at Helmsborough's leg with the phase knife through the railing, retreating quickly and continuing the incantation. Siber had hoped that his projected sense of urgency would preclude any questions or hesitation from Joe, but that was apparently not the case.

Joe took a deep breath. "H'oshit." He turned and sprinted up the hall, away from Helmsborough and out the front door. He ran to the edge of the yard and skidded to a halt to make sure he was followed.

Out in the yard, now about half a foot away from Joe, Paul was kneeling in the grass, the sights of the Athena rifle focused on the walls. He kept switching between doorways and windows, since these seemed Helmsborough's most likely exit point. Either way, he glanced to Joe and saw the box of ashes. "Siber's not going through with his original plan, is he?" he inquired, non-descriptively. He looked... focused. Perhaps even angry. After he goes for Legion, I might not stop you. evil, Paul. He murdered children. He liked to murder children. It was his pastime! Then he'd raise skeletons and call them SkeleMidgets! Murderer that he was, I have to admit the way he said it was entertaining. Still is. But that's beside the point. You get the picture?> I do, rather clearly. But we're not attacking him yet. For once, the farmer loses his cool, and for once I don't.
You want me to kill someone I helped more or less join the Hunters.
I'm not so sure.

Joe glanced down at Paul. "Umm...what? I don't know. What was his original plan? Ahh, never mind." Looking down at his hands, Joe carefully set down the book and the box. He tensed up, waiting for the inevitable explosion.

"To purposely desecrate the remains," Paul explained to Joe. "I don't like it personally. It's risky. No matter how we do it." The gun kept leaping from window to window; Paul was just as on edge as Joe.

((Sorry, guys - honor dictates that I wait for Venom on this one. Skelemidgets should be trademarked and sold to the mass market. You could give them cute nicknames and accessories. It would be like tamagachis, with the added benefit of opposable thumbs and carrying capacity. Deflambeaux is what you get when I'm operating on too little sleep.))
Deflambeaux followed Joe dutifully out of the house and began critiquing his and Paul's attire, overriding any attempt to stop her. "Oh, my goodness, you are both hideous I don't know how Siber can stand to be around you clothed like that but then again he doesn't pay too much attention to his own self you know he hasn't given himself a good shave in far too long and that coat is getting torn already so maybe he just doesn't care which you know breaks my heart in two and you Paul need to give that weapon a good shine sometime or else you'll never feel like you have the same kind of power with it you could and Joe you need to get your hair gelled or something because if not I will just have to do it myself and goodness knows Siber hasn't given me enough time or energy in this plane to do anything like that and having wings like this is elegant and all but I do miss having fingers to style with and eyes that both looked straight forward then again we all make sacrifices for beauty now dearies how have you been getting along I haven't had time to meet any of this poor boy's comrades-in-arms."

Helmsborough made an angered declaration to Siber's response, and it went something like this:
"AAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarggggghhh!"
The phase knife punctured the railing, the leg, and Siber was fairly sure it also got the bone, without much of a loss of its ******** phase weapons!" he snarled as he fell, clutching his side and his leg. It seemed that wound reminded him of the gunshot he'd done nothing to deal with earlier. "Where are you getting this s**t?" Siber seemed to be clear to run if he could break Helmsborough's line of sight for attacking him at a range.
--
The dragon roared in annoyance, jumping up to smash Fyrin against and through the ceiling while riding his spike of earth up before rolling off it to the side.
"Don't underestimate me," the dragon growled, twisting to turn around. Gennady's fingers, turned to metal claws some time when nobody had been paying attention to him, stabbed the side of the dragon to little effect. He tried a slash next, and the dragon snarled and batted him against a wall as it drew blood.
Renard was still healing himself.
--
Takeshi looked at Samuel, Agnese, and Keilven. "I think we should get outside. If this house collapses, we're ********." They agreed and exited.
