Class review/ first impressions:
Japanese 5- Fujita-sensei is awesome...still. I've had her for my Japanese 1 class, and I had her for 4 last quarter. The class is demanding (obviously) but she makes everything really fun and is also flexible, dropping the lowest 2 quiz scores and constructing homework turn-in in such a way that it highlights everything you need to know while not being too overly stressing taking all of the students' other classes into account. We will be learning more complex grammatical patterns this quarter, but all in all I'm looking forward to it.
American Literature: 1900 to World War II- I've heard a lot of things about the professor teaching this course, and a good amount of them were bad. However, he made a very good and strong first impression. I haven't read any of the books on the reading list except for Lolita by Nabokov. Still, he has this infectious love of the material and so I can tell that I"ll enjoy going to lecture and engaging the readings.
Author Spotlight: V.S Naipaul- The same professor that teaches the American literature course listed above also teaches this course. Again, his infectious love for the material and his introduction to Naipaul makes me really REALLY excited about this class. I think out of all of my classes I'll have the most fun in this one. We're reading 7 books by Naipaul this quarter, as well as assorted interviews and travel writings. I'm glad that the one book I read by him in the past is not on the reading list, because that just means a wider glimpse of his works.
All told, this quarter should be very interesting. I'm looking forward to the reading and writing I'll be doing this quarter.
On the downside, our university has finally introduced a more rigid honors system that will be awarded quarterly as well as final graduation honors. Sadly, it looks like I don't have time to reach Dean's Honors by the time I graudate, let alone c** Laude, Magna c** Laude or Summa c** Laude. My fiancee', on the other hand, could easily graduate Magna c** Laude, and if she tries hard enough could get Summa c** Laude. So, I'll cheer her on and live my academic life vicariously through her.
Still, a 3.5 GPA isn't too bad...is it? sweatdrop crying

Sounds like you've got some really interesting classes, FFG! And judging from what it sounds like you'll be doing in-class, I bet your Japanese is better than mine, hahaha...
On the honours thing, I say you just try as hard as you can. If you don't get it don't stress. You're already getting a great education with all the incredibly difficult classes you've been taking. Passing them and maintaining such a good GPA has got to show for something. 3nodding

The ONLY reason that I didn't graduate with honors (even with a 3.8 GPA) was because my college had a rule that in order to graduate with honors, at least 60 credits had to have been achieved at that school. I transferred in with 65 credits, so I only had to take 55 credits at the 4-year college I went to. My last semester I only took 4 classes (and had 57 credits), and then a few weeks before graduation, I got the letter in the mail telling me I wouldn't be graduating with honors. Because of 1 damn class.
I was so pissed.
@FFG: a 3.5 is still a good GPA.

The dean's honors requires a 3.64 GPA, and so I don't see myself raising my GPA .14 in my next two quarters. c** Laude is 3.81, Magna c** Laude is 3.84 and Summa c** Laude is 3.91. My fiancee's got like, 3.81 or 3.82 right now, so she's got a good shot at Summa c** Laude. ^_^ She's such a smarty.

Nice to hear that things are going well, Pi. On my end of things I've got just one glitch.
Wednesday, when I went to get two teeth pulled, one of them was growing right up against the jaw bone, to the point where two of the roots were more or less fused to the bone. When it was getting yanked a piece of the bone broke off with the tooth (which sounded really creepy) and opened a small hole between my mouth and sinus cavity. This is a bad thing, though not OMG HORRIBAL, and resulted in a huge number of stitches to close the tooth socket, a return visit Wednesday to get the healing checked, and 4 medications rather than just 1.
So now, in addition to the Perkies (which I really need to take due to the extra damage, as opposed to my usual popping a couple the first day and not touching after that point) I'm taking some rather large antibiotics, claratin, and a nasal inhaler. Basically I need to absolutely guarantee that no excess pressure builds up on either side due to stuff like congestion, sneezing, nose blowing, etc.
Its not so bad, especially since my boss was really cool about me taking both yesterday and today of in addition to Wednesday for the appointment, but the combination makes me feel sluggish and mentally slow.
