Technologist Tony Stark LunaInverse Technologist Tony Stark Rae x Rae LunaInverse @Rae Rae: what's your major? Well it's sort of just changed for the third time. My original major was chemistry, so I lost a year's worth of core courses. My second was writing, but there aren't enough classes offered, so finally I decided that I was already far into a literature degree.
So now I'm an English lit major minoring in religious studies. Contemplated that myself. I think Catholic school burned me out on religious studies... xd Hence why I did not. It probably would have been different if I had chosen religion classes. But up until my senior year in high school, every year I had religion classes, and they were all about Christianity. Senior year we got "World Religions".

Speaking of schools, the Secretary Treasurer for our jurisdiction completely ******** up the budget for every school in it. And not small-time either. Most schools are 300,000-400,000 in the hole, and that's not something that can be fixed by not buying some extra paper. That's one or two teachers fired because some idiot messed up on figuring out exactly how much money they had to use. And not in just one or two schools, all of them.
Guess who hasn't lost his job, though?

Guess who hasn't lost his job, though? Sounds like a similar situation that happened to a town in the northern part of Western Mass. They found out that their town's budget for all their schools was 1.9 million in the hole. They had to fire about 60 teachers, and they had to close down a few schools, making the ones still there even more crowded.

Especially considering the amount of schools in our area. I still don't understand why this guy hasn't been sacked, or why it hasn't been really publicized yet. Then again, after the documentary on how teachers in Ontario regularly get the s**t kicked out of them, it's no surprise that a teacher even mentioning something negative about their working conditions or school board ******** can get them canned. :/

So, AG, I have a question.
I know last year that there was limited success with a Christmas/Holiday card exchange, and I was wondering if you guys wanted to do it again?
I don't mind collecting the emails and addresses for those participating.

Cool. I'll set up a separate thread for people to sign up, but I'm going to have to set a cut off date so everyone has time to actually get the cards out. Is December 5 ok? (next Friday)
Or should I set it a little later?

Technologist Tony Stark I am exceedingly post modern in my airs, so I heartily agree with the annoyance of capital L Literature versus the lower case variety. Put your fist in the air my revolutionary comrade! scream I stated in class the other day that I see no real difference between Robinson Crusoe and books like Harry Potter since they both focus on a gratification in the use of adventure, of sorts. They argued with me about what it says about the time period.
I didn't bother trying to explain that, as you learn in the sciences, you can't compare two sets of two different variables. 200 year old classics can't be looked at from a contemporary-historical view with experience and then placed next to 10 year old books looked at from a completely contemporary view. That's like growing a rose at 50 degrees and an azalea at 20 degrees to compare growth rates. It's not acceptable for a theory.
Hell, even horribly cheap and cheesy sex novels say something about our culture no matter how much they're dismissed.

whee Black Friday shopping went well for me! Am loving that new Personal Trainer: Cooking for DS and found a cute dress for Kin's graduation where I'm hoping like hell his family will not loathe me.
However, one of the stores left an inktag on, so now I have to go all the way back to Vestal to get it taken off because all the stores in Oneonta that use inktagsl tried and couldn't get it. That's over an HOUR each way gonk
