whoa whoa whoa...
John McCain just spent the last few minutes chastising Obama about big government, preaching that people don't want government to make decisions for them, that the individual should make the decision.
30 seconds later he was asked about Roe V. Wade and how he wants it overturned. He said that the decision should be left to the state government.
...wut?
So government shouldn't help you with medicare, but they can tell you whether or not you can have an abortion?
Confused.
It's really sad how the Republican party has degraded to selectively applying legitimately Republican principles to perpetuate religious dogma, racism, and protect the rich from being held accountable for raping our society.
I mean, less government is a very VERY appealing prospect but I just feel like the way the Republican party operates now is taking the government out of power, and putting the power in the hands of people who have a lot of money. The government is a (relatively ineffective) shield against the control of the rich, making the lower and middle class (and upper class) pay into social institutions that they are able to benefit from (but which benefit lower and middle class individuals moreso since rich people could just afford to buy everything the social institutions provide)
There are huge problems with both sides, but in this election I am a staunch supporter of Obama. His policies, if he delivers a fraction of what he promises, will be really good for this country. But maybe someday we'll need a reactionary to guide our country out of the malicious control of the government, who knows.
A really moving prospective was introduced to me by my diabetic friend who has been really active in supporting Obama because Obama supports stem cell research. I honestly forgot about such an important issue that effects so many people so deeply... very wake up call inducing to hear the way he put it.
