My boyfriend bought it on sale last Halloween at Best buy....I still haven't seen it, but he liked it. He's REALLY into horror movies though. And I'm really more interested in Oldboy anyways.

Ostensibly it's a Yakuza movie. By the end of it I just wanted them all to ******** die. I've never encountered a movie where I came away just purely hating all of the characters that much. It's like the personification of the biggest psychoses lurking at the fringes of Japanese society.

There's a bit of a similar premise between Old Boy and Ichi the Killer, except that
Ichi is clearly and intentionally programmed to be exploited as a killer from the beginning rather than the post hypnotic suggestion ******** in Old Boy. I thought Old Boy was a fantastic movie that justified where and how it pushed the boundaries with the magnificent plot, while I felt that Ichi just pushed them for people who like to get off to sick s**t, there wasn't really anything redeeming or profound about the movie.

Life has been changing a little bit for me.. I still pretty much go to work and go home and have no life besides that, but every once in a while some other things happen.

As some of you know I don't like the heat at all, and it's been getting pretty warm lately. Well, despite that I've actually been kind of wanting to get out a little more. I want to go explore, I want to do something..it's kind of weird though.. I think it might be a phase, but I haven't really been online all that much lately. I may show up a lot, but it's only for a few minutes at a time to check messages really. But anyway..so yeah, there's places I want to go around town to take pictures and such because I've been doing that a lot more lately and you can only take so many of the area you live in before you start repeating pictures.

I've been in a pretty good mood lately..it's kind of strange as well, but at the same time it's nice. The other day I met up with a friend that I met on myspace actually. I thought it'd be awkward and such, but it really wasn't for me. I had fun hanging out with him, though I can only hope I didn't bore him too much. razz
Originally I was going to do something with him on Sunday night, but then I switched it to Saturday because other plans of mine got changed, and then birthday stuff came up with another friend that was last minute...but either way, we hung out and had fun.

The birthday was fun too, and hanging out with my friends was great. However, we were running late with some things so we didn't really get to watch a movie until after midnight. It finally ended past 2am, but I kept nodding on and off because I was so tired. Haha.. It was an interesting movie/documentary type thing though (what I saw of it anyway..though I did see most of it). Now I am home checking messages and planning on going to bed soon. Yay. The bed will make me happy too. I want to hang out with my new friend again though, lol. I don't know what he really thought of the whole situation though..I just hope I didn't scare him away like the last guy (though the last guy I didn't hang out with, he actually stopped in at the last place I worked at..pfft. He's obviously an a*****e and is a waste of time anyway so there you go). Well, I guess we'll see.

And...my elbow still hurts. Man. When I was at one of my friends' apartment, I was sitting on one of the ends of the futon (they use it for a couch) that had a small mini fridge next to it they don't use except for putting things on top of. Well, when I went to shift at some point or something, my elbow hit the open door. It hurt very bad. Yeah, I'll stop now. I'm really tired and really talkative..great.

Man, I remember when the idiots in AMC main were idiots because their opinions and methodology were abhorrent, not because they're stupider than a bag of bricks. There's just no sport in it the way there used to be. To wit, Spider Jerusalem versus AnimeDude360 with cameos by BE and Soundwave. Lulz.

I wasn't a part of that thread, but I remember going toe to toe with Animedude360 a few times in other threads.

..why the hell is it only 17+ at the con..? xd Oh well. I ended up not seeing it anyway - mom and I (yes, luls) went to go see it, but we got the schedule off by half an hour. We were early. We had to sit through this horribly-acted Korean soap opera bullshit and after like 20 minutes of that we couldn't possibly stay awake for an entire movie, so we're gonna rent it..

(your last point was actually a major reason I wanted to see it)

EDIT: Unless Blockbuster doesn't have it, which it has just occurred to me that they probably don't. In which case, uh. Yay Amazon?

Well there's two official cuts of Ichi the Killer; one that was cut to an R and the original (MPAA) unrated. I can't remember the details now, but I believe that in theory the unrated version was never officially distributed in North America and Media Blasters is the distributor for the R rated version.

The MPAA rating system is fairly convoluted but there does not exist a more stringent rating than NC-17 for movies submitted to them for a rating, so the difference between R and NC-17 is that minors are allowed to be present in a screening of an R rated movie provided they have an adult to vouch for them, whereas under no circumstances are minors allowed into a screening of an NC-17 movie.

Also, the general criteria for awarding a film an NC-17 rating is the absolute murkiest of the criteria in their entire scale. Violence and profanity are generally an afterthought when making the leap from R to NC-17. The big three that I remember were "abhorrent behavior," sexual content, and drug use.
Sooo.. do I need to look for a torrent of the NC-17 one, or is there anywhere I can actually buy it? (I don't see the sense in watching a less extreme version of a movie in which the extremity of the violence and such is kind of the point..)

I do too...I haven't had one in about ten years (I think a little more now). That was the first one I had before I got glasses which I haven't worn in over four or five years because they broke beyond fixing.
