Ora's tiny hand reached up for the finger, watching it move.

((wait....so is E in the room or are you just talking to the kid?))

((eh, my bad. He's completely visible. Erica now sees some icky green hand poking at her daughter. And the big cloaked guy, but the hand has un-happy thoughts!))

The figure smiled, poking Ora in the forehead lightly as he straightened himself.
"Congratulations Erica. You're lucky I convinced you to rescue her when I did, she seems unharmed."

Erica stared for a moment, and then squeezed herself between the figure and the cradle, blocking the baby from his view. "If the child was harmed, you would have no doubts to my villainy. I have been merciful to them all."

"You misunderstand, Ms. Morrow." The figure said, a hint of mirth. "I credit your remaining title of villian to the killing of Henry. I wasn't sure if you'd do it or not."
Erica found herself experiencing a shifting sensation, her vision blurring slightly. When it was done, she saw the figure craddling Ora in his arms, her holding nothing in her place.

Erica bit back a sharp gasp. "Give the child back." She gripped the back of the cradle for support, and to keep herself from diving at the figure in an act of violence.

Ora seemed rather content, cooing softly.

"That's a good girl, I always knew you liked me better." He said, an evil smile barely hidden.
"I wonder why you killed him? So recently have you seemed to be concerned with doing the right thing, despite your villianous ways." He looked up at Erica.
"Could it be the past he put you through? The fact of your brother's death? Or something entirely different, hidden away in your little soul?"

"Do not act as if you know me," Erica sneered, "I wasn't planning on killing him, but it was in fact mercy that won out in the end. There was much more I intended to do, to them all."

"Mercy? To the man who made your life hell? I find that rather hard to believe." He said, sighing and sitting down, a chair materializing under him.
"A villianess such as yourself, killing the man who tortured you, kidnapped your child, and killed your brother, out of mercy?"

"Yes, a quick death was a mercy, opposed to torture, disfigurement, and many other options that were open to me. Do not tell me you cannot see how life can at times be worse than any death."

"Do not misunderstand, death would be a gracious relief for him from any other, but mercy from you, especially to Henry, is almost incredulous."
He rocked Ora slowly in his arms. "From any other, it would be a mercy killing. But from you..."

"As I said, do not act as if you know me." Erica glowered. She shut her mouth tight, knowing her murder of Henry was in fact brought on by a burst of rage, uncontrolled and blind.

Ora was slowly drifting to sleep, as she rocked, little drool bubbles formed in the corner of her mouth.

"Act as if I do not know you? Erica, I know everything I could ever want to know about you. I have a certain talent with minds..." A slithery presence slipped in the back of her mind, a mental ooze permeading her soul.

Erica stiffened, her eyes going wide and then sharply focusing, "Do not do that." Her voice was cold.

"Then do not presume that I do not know you." His voice remained calm as he stroked Ora's hair gently.
"But it does not matter. Congratulations on rescuing your daughter." He stood up, handing Ora back to Erica.
"Happy Holidays, Erica. Keep your ears open, I've been known to make suprises around the holidays." With that final statement, he faded away, his form blurring, then disapearing all together.
