awww i miss being a flute... i switched to Fhorn 3 1/2 years ago. I still play my flute sometimes though. braces suck... i'd say as soon as you can get bumpers or wax. Get some of each and find what you're comfortable with. usually i'd say to use bumpers for the bog long instruments, because wax can get lost and stuck if you're not careful, but with a flute you probably won't have to worry about that. start out slow, if you're in marching band make sure you can march well... and if you're on the field watch out for potholes when you can...even players without braces have learned the hard way what its like to get ground beef for lips. good luck with that.

I just got my flute repaired and she's acting all wongy again, refusing to play anything higher than third octave C#, no matter how softly or harshly I blow. =/ And the week of the band competition, too!
At least my tone's better for the other notes. =/

i'm gonna be getting braces soon. i am gonna try to get the invisaline braces and I don't think that will affect my playing as much but I may be wrong. i'm glad its not marching band season when i get them because i play piccolo in marching band which will probably be harder to play with braces than flute since my embochure is a little different when I play piccolo.
