Lucky had no way of knowing, however, that his location had been pointed out to Republic Artillery units.
Three Batteries of Shell Firing 120mm Mass drivers were locked on their coordinates.
A spotter gave the direction, Fire Control released the rounds, and crater digging death started walking relentlessly up to Lucky and his men, each High Impact round making the moon's surface shake.

"Wait," said Lucky, as he finished loading the launcher with concussion grenades, "do you hear that."

A deep thumping sound echoed across the corridor, followed by a second, closer one. Each impact vibrated the corridor, and debris started to move across the floor...

"Osik, artillery! Take cover!"

At that moment, the Artillery found their range.
The three 120mm Batteries let the Lyran troops have it, each gun firing off a shell every five seconds for a frightening two minute barrage, raining High impact shells designed to pierce and explode down on the fortified position.
And then the storm subsided. An unerving calm set upon the shattered remains of the corridor.

Sergeant True coughed, moving bits of rubble from off of his legs. Luckily, the duracrete had fallen in a way so that it braced against the wall, protecting his vitals from falling debris. They didn't call him lucky for nothing. He would have a couple new bruises the next morning, provided he lived that long.

"Whoever's alive, sound off," he croaked, coughing up dust shortly afterwards.

"I'm here," said Zoe, climbing out from beneath a large slab of duracrete. "Bendis is down there too, but he's busted up pretty badly. I don't think we can move him."

"Give him an extra rifle and clip so he can make a decent last stand," said Lucky, grabbing whatever supplies he could from the fallen comrades around him. "The enemy has obviously gotten a fix on our position, so we've got to move quickly and quietly elsewhere."

"You think we've got a chance, sir?"

"Do you even need to ask," he said, pounding his fist on the symbol of the Lyran homeworlds on his chestplate. "Ready?"

"Always."

"Ok. Got movement." A republic spotter said quietly, looking in through macros from two klicks away. "Count...two."
"Yeah I see 'em." His sniper partner whispered, zeroing in on True's head. "Tell Fire Control they must be using duds."
"In a sec. You got a bead?"
"Yep." He pulled the trigger. Noislessly the green blaster bolt discharged and zoomed down range for True's head. "Scratch one sith."

Lucky stepped off of the exposed steel support onto the uneven surface below, seconds before a blaster bolt passed through the space his head had been only milliseconds before. It hit the rock above him and discharged, leaving a deep gash.

"Zoe, get down," he said, fast-crawling behind cover. "Snipers, mortars, this is not my best day ever."

"What'll we do Sarge," she said after diving behind some debris. "We can't engage them at this range."

"We need to find a way into the underground tunnels. They have the high ground and it's the only way I figure we can survive while they have that advantage."

"You think the tunnels will still be intact?"

"Most of them won't be, but we might find one or two still open. Now stay low and follow me..."

"Kirflag. I missed." The Sniper muttered.
"Nice." His spotter said sarcastically. Pressing his comlink to his ear, he continued to watch the area the Sith were hiding. "Theta, this is FO67. Fire for effect. Over."
"FO67 this is Theta. Fire for effect. Out." Came the reply on hic comm, swiftly followed by another statement. "Aurek, Dora. DPICM is in effect. Over."
"Aurek, Dora. DPICM is in effect. Out"
"Shot. Over."
"Shot. Out."
There was no need to correct this time. The Republic Artillery had found their mark. Cluster bomb style munitions suddenly errupted right on top of the Lyrran position, the Republic spotter marking each successive hit by saying Splash into his comm.

On one side Bahl was dumbfounded, on the other side he was overjoyed. Ironically, the change in situation didn't change his current orders one bit. Seleene's ship would arrive in just a tad under thirty minutes. But the change in the Jedi's position now allowed him to properly support that effort.

Already the Siege ships had packed up and micro-jumped further in system, and were setting up in a polar orbit around the moons. They'd now switched from hyper-velocity long distance sabot loads to low velocity bombs and were already settling into siege mode along with their support ships from Contraband Incorporated.

But that was only part of the support he could now offer Seleene, the other part was the direct fire support of the 1st Group of the 26th Fighter Wing. Equipped with Buzzard Fighters they'd be able to ensure aerial supremacy in the cooridor he was about to open, and they wee an elite formation that's pilots were drawn from all four member corporations. They had two nicknames, the Silver Shields and Yellow Nosed Bastards.

In addition, there were four more Punisher Corvettes in his hangar bay, loaded to the brim with Body Count Incorporated Commandos. And as in most battles, he couldn't resist going down and seeing it for himself. All the pilots and commandos had been briefed and were on standby. Now all that was left to do was wait.

* * *

The three mass-driver rounds had sped up considerably from the dragging pull of the star, and they shot past merely 500,000 kilometers above its surface, their course twisting upward oh so slightly as they began to head toward the distant point of light known as Yag'Dhul.

"Yes, milord," Jakar said. "Though it may be obvious, but I have fully decided to remain at your side. But there is one thing I would like to ask while being your loyal knight. I'd like a legion."

Lucky dropped down into the underground tunnel, landing on his feet right next to Zoe. Seconds later, a large explosion, or thousands of small ones, shook the tunnel. Large pieces of debris fell over the tunnel entrance that they had just came from, blocking it with several tons of duracrete and steel.

"I guess we're not going back that way," said Lucky, switching on the flashlight on the side of his helmet. "Let's see where this tunnel leads..."

"I am pleased at your decision," said Marr, thinking for a moment. "As for a command position in the army, that will come as you prove your ability both as a warrior and a tactician. We'll start you off with something small, such as a platoon, and if you prove yourself a capable leader of men than you shall be rewarded with a more prestigious command. With the Republic's presence on Yag'Dhul, you will soon get a chance to do just that.

Now return to the Waterfall Hangar. Marie will follow you shortly to take you to her ship, the Spectre. I'll make sure that the security doors are open on your way down."

"Understood, milord," Jakar bowed. He turned on his heels and departed the room, returning the the turbolift.

After Jakar left, Derrial came up to Marr and Marie and informed them of Demaia's arrival and her demands. Marr said nothing as he talked, closing his eyes as if in deep thought. When he was finished, Marr stood from his throne and walked down to where Derrial and Marie were.

"Derrial, have Lady Siren and her entourage escorted to the Avatar, and have all other personnel aboard the ship depart after preparing it for takeoff. Also, give the order to have all military installations in the Lyran system put on Code 3: High Alert. Deploy the fleet in defensive positions around the Homeworlds.

Marie, take Jakar to the Spectre and ready it to leave the system. Go to Yag'Dhul with one of the Lexingtons and support our forces there until the fleet can arrive."

Derrial bowed as Marr finished and hurried off to carry out his orders, but Marie stayed still, looking up into Marr's eyes with hesitation.

Lucky and Zoe moved quickly through the tunnels, checking each corner before turning and listening carefully for signs of Republic forces. After awhile, Lucky heard a metallic clanking sound, as if large metal legs were striking the duracrete just around the corner. He signaled Zoe and slowly went around the corner, turning on his energy shield and leveling his grenade launcher at the tunnel ahead.

What he saw was several squads of dead Republic and Lyran soldiers, as well as a few busted combat droids, littering the tunnel. In the middle of them stood a large, four-legged droid with a blaster mounted on its central body. Just below the barrel of the blaster was the same symbol on Lucky and Zoe's chestplates.

"Relax, Zoe," said Lucky, approaching the droid. "It's one of ours."

"I should go with you," Marie said, looking up at her master.
PostPosted: Thu May 07, 2009 12:59 pm

"No, this is something I must do alone." said Marr, reluctantly. "You are needed elsewhere, and if I don't return than it will be you who assumes command of our people.

I have to try and talk some sense into that crazed woman before she starts a fight that neither of us can afford."

--------------------------------------------------

"Zoe, check some of these bodies and see if there is anything we can use," Lucky said, hanging one of the blaster rifles on the floor on a hook on the droid's body.

"Sir," Zoe replied after looking around for a few moments, "I have an idea..."
