RL commissions ftw!~ But I've had reasonably good luck in R&C everytime I take a peak (usually in the weee hours of the morning). I found DragonFlie's shop and a couple of other good ones.

Personally, I'd feel bad if I paid an artist in currency from a website that hasn't fully caught on quite yet (plus, I dislike pixel dolls so Menewsha is out of the question for me). I didn't start commissioning on Gaia until it was around for about a year, possibly longer.

I miss the days when the R&C was hidden away in the Art Discussion forums. confused

I'm personally losing heart about Menewsha real quick. The only way to acrew value is posting, and I am too busy to be on there enough to be horribly active.

Though it is nice so many great people/artists are there. I'll probably hang in there. But event items you have to buy?! D=

That sort of was like dude... o.o`
...anyway, but thats me. XD

Suffice to say, on Mene - hell, it's hard to make gold as an artist unless you pricedrop to something that, well, for me at least, isn't worth it. All the gold's being dispensed by Yume. XD;

The only good shops I ever found in the R&C was when I'd go picking through things at like 4 AM when nobody else is online, otherwise it's too hectic and busy. I find some really nice stuff though, here and there, but overall I just...

When I look through the R&C, basically what I do is pick a shop, skim over it, and if I can't immediately find prices, samples, and if they're open or closed, I go to the next shop.

Anything that's confusing to read, I just don't. sweatdrop

Hmm I told Josh from the start to have a theme. Not the general thing.
Menewsha is too much like Gaia for me.
Though I -lovelovelove- the hairstyles.

As for Zantarni, I love the idea and I love the members...
But I declared war on the owner.
PostPosted: Mon Mar 26, 2007 11:26 pm

Menewsha's lack of a theme is bizarre - it's hard to get behind a community when there's nothing to focus on. Additionally, people keep going on about how much friendlier it is there than over here, but it's only "friendly" if you toe the line of the rather large clique.

Most of the people I have met there (whom I don't know here) are just as irritating as the random people I meet on Gaia - the fact they consider themselves nicer or friendlier or more community-spirited simply reads as a giant flashing sign of "obnoxious" to me. You're only nicer, friendlier, or more community-spirited if you're nice to everyone, not just the people who pat you on the back for being so much more socially superior.

But I have met some nice people, too (;

It's not really a pricedrop, though, is it? People think it is because they're not getting thousands or millions, but 1K on Menewsha is like a squidillion gold here - most people on Menewsha just don't have it, and since it's hard to get, the art-buying public probably won't be that large until gold is easier to come by.

I haven't commissioned anyone (up until today, and they just wanted contribution items) based on the fact the people I've seen expect to get paid on Menewsha like they do on Gaia - it's a completely different economy and it doesn't match up at all.

(Not that I'm saying people should offer an arm and a leg for no gold, but there's very little about a sketch headshot that interests me when I can get the same thing for "less" here - it doesn't take me any effort at all to earn 10-20K on Gaia, but 200g on Menewsha is hard to get unless you make sure all of your posts are obnoxiously long.)

[A lonely life
Where no one understands you...]

QFT @ everything Audley said. I've only bought one art commission [PB sketch @ 250g], and that was more than half of my gold. I stick to the not-so-ridiculously-busy areas like media and the art whore thread, so I don't really rack up that much gold from posting. I'll just stay in the background and hope random people give me cash. <.<

Yup! I agree too..

I think these sites suffer from making their game forums not dispense gold... =c

People do need a way to make it you know, and if there is no other way readily available?... you know?
I don't quite get that.

I agree that the game forum should dispense gold. I found myself posting in other forums just for gold even though I had no interest in what was being said. The only people who have alot are the developers and people who joined when it first started.

I been wondering if the developers on that site can just get as much gold/items they want in order to bid on the auctions. I'm not trying to tea bag Yume but the thought did come across. I just never see her doing any auctions to get the gold/items herself so don't know how she can have so much income otherwise. emo

I don't find the people on there to be any more or less friendly than those on Gaia either. It's just such a new site so I'm sure they will work around the problems so it's more user friendly.

xDDDD
don't worry, I already promised Mike to bid on less auctions xD xD. It's just, while most of the people want to hoard the event items for later, I'm giving it for art now, when it's relatively cheap, so I'm practically the only person giving away event items xD xD
as for the gold...when you earn 2k, you can easily make 500g in 5 minutes with the card game, if you're not afraid to play risky xD

You don't think I didn't take that into cocnsideration? I'm not pricing things in the thousands mind you.

I did a price-as-others-do strategy (following Luciole) and most of my friends have asked me to help them set prices. People were more willing to pay earlier one - before the events - and my prices haven't increased since that time, so it's not like I'm charging something people don't think it's worth. It's just been an item scramble. People would rather buy items than art, and well - that's how things go, I suppose. I have more important matters to attend to than pixels.

A lot of good artists have been dropping to like, 100g, because people don't want to buy. And well, if I do that, it's just not worth my time. Because, if I can make the same amount quicker, by posting, I don't see the point of my doing it. Besides, thier 100g sketch headshots which tkae them ten minutes take me an hour with real media. My marketing strategy on Mene is quality, traditional work and service within the week - eg, you get what you pay for.

That said, I'm not on Menewsha or Gaia to make fake money.

Woe, I would give you a couple of next month's contribution items if you sketched a fingernail for me - you're worth it. It's the obnoxious people that I avoid - humility goes a long way.

Anyway, I was never too likely to commission a lot there for the same reasons I don't commission a lot here - navigating art shops is tiring work (;

Menewsha probably couldn't handle a Chatterbox-like forum where one earns gold because the server load would just kill the site. Unfortunately, because of that there are a lot of really long-winded posts; where people might take one sentence to say something on Gaia, it takes a few paragraphs for people to make the same remark on Menewsha.

*takes me an hour to sketch anything* *sweat*

I mean, I know what you mean. It's really my own problem with myself to working so slowly, but I'm obsessive compulsive.

Sorry, I've been snarky these past few weeks, since spring break ended - RL's gotten really tough, like, outside of school stuff.

And yeah... I dunno, I like reading long posts. It kind of... is for me, conducive to arguing. XD; And well, as I said, I've been snarky lately.

Yeah. I think the post-for-gold thing is there to foster community, make it different from Gaia - the difference being one of its selling points. So like, it's target marketing, and those who don't like to earn gold solely by post should probably leave because it's not thier kind of community.

Some bajillion pages back I had a neat idea for an artist-artcommissioner community with like, super detailed profiles.

If you want to hunt for it, that's cool, or I can do it later if you want. I dunno how many pages back it is from here sweatdrop
