"Request all you want, but you're not getting them." Nabross said. "The distance is too great. A secure line of communication can't be assured and who knows how many Sith spy droids could be tapping our call right now. You want the Tactical Information, you either deploy here or wait for a Messenger drone, which can arrive in fifteen minutes."

"Very well then, I won't be deploying the siege platforms forward, but my command ship and an escorting contingent of frigates is. I'll be sending targeting data back to the siege ships so that their bombs find their mark. Perhaps you were unaware that by using the gravity well of the sun, Yag'Dhul, and its moons we can accelerate our munitions so that they deliver many times the destructive force of merely shooting them in at the planet from orbit. My ship will be arriving in fifteen minutes, perhaps with a mercenary commander under your guns you'll be more willing to let us do our job."

Nabross expression soured more.
"We want to TAKE the Planet. Not landscape it. I suggest you find a new plan of attack, chairman, before you start shooting your mouth off. Nabross out."
The Jedi ended the communication and glared back at the display of Yag'Dhul.
"The Problem with Mercenaries is that they're never conventional." He muttered irritably. "They always want to do things their own way. And all we can do is pay them off and hope they don't shoot us in the foot."

Marr was about to speak again when he saw Derrial looking anxiously at him from behind one of the pillars. He sensed that he was troubled greatly, and this concerned him since Derrial was not a man to worry easily.

"Jakar, I sense that you have something you wish to say," Marr said, turning back to the two in front of him. "Say it quickly, then, since it seems that recent events demand my immediate attention."

-------------------------------------------------

On the largest moon of Yag'Dhul, in a firebase torn apart by Republic turbolaser fire, a ragtag squad of Lyran soldiers huddled in a corridor, having retreated there after an extended firefight with Republic troops. Their leader, a young sergeant known for encouraging loyalty in battles before, was weary and disheveled from the day's fighting.

"Sir, the Republic is coming again, and all escape routes are blocked or guarded," said his second in command. "They're requesting that we lay down arms."

"Lyrans don't surrender, kid. Didn't they teach you that in basic?"

"What'll we do then, sir?"

"We fight are way out, or die trying," he said in a stern voice, before softening up a little. "However, if I die today then I plan on taking as many of them as I can with me."

As the transmission faded to static Bahl shook his head, "Jedi."

"Does this mean we change our plans sir?" One of the comm officers asked quietly.

"No, no it doesn't. There's no other way to bring down the shield without a general bombardment, and that will leave this world so vulnerable the sith could walk in a week after we leave." Bahl glanced up as the ship micro-jumped to the planet. With a flash the complex orbital dance of Yag'Dhul and her moons was laid out before him. A tight smile gripped his lips as he turned to the sensor operators, "Give me the location of each shield emitter on the planet, and ping the fleet. I want to know where each of our allies ships are. Make sure to package everything up for tight band back to the Siege Squadron. Give them a fire mission, two Protons and one KE in that order. The squadron leader will know what to do."

"Data away, fire mission transmitted."

Bahl closed his eyes, it'd take what, two hours for the rounds to arrive. Two hours to endure the screaming of an angry and indignant Jedi Lord. Par for the course he thought.

* * *

At the edge of the system the three Siege Cruisers rotated in space, precisely aiming across the vast distances. Once aligned it took a minute for each to load its assigned shell, and in constant communication they timed and coordinated their firing perfectly. Two proton bombs with terminal guidance were the first rounds out, and miliseconds later a kinetic energy round was fired. Not the direct route, for the noses of each ship was pointed not toward Yag'Dhul but toward the star.

They sent a message back that was quite simple, all rounds would arrive on target in exactly two hours, three minutes, and nine seconds. They advised that the infiltration team be ready to insert in a window approximately 68 degrees north and 32 degrees west. Of course, their target coordinates had been a thousand fold more precise.

The 9th Fleet was quickly alerted to what happened.
Nabross was far from pleased when he was informed that, rather than follow orders, the mercenaries went ahead anyway with their plans.
"Their ship is due here in eight minutes, correct?" Nabross asked.
"Yes sir."
"Lock them in a tractor beam and have them arrested." He said cooly. "It seems we will need to have a talk with our mercenary associates."

As the ship thumped from the tractor beam lock Bahl shook his head, "Alright I expected screaming, but this is going one step too far." He stepped to the command walk and looked down at the now hesitant officers, "Fighter control, launch all fighters. Tell them they are to attempt to interfere with the lock but are not to engage or target the republic vessels." He walked back to the comm center and reached over a console and tapped the transmit button, "Seleene, have your team stand by."

"I'll be damned if I allow an upstart Jedi to waste his men on a foolish assault." He glanced at the weapons control stations, "Load EMP in all ACP batteries, prepare warning shots."

"And get me that Jedi on the comm again!"

* * *

The Mass-driver rounds sped through space, uncaring of the ruckus their launch had caused. They were now fifteen minutes into their journey and had traveled roughly two light minutes. There were twenty-eight to go.

The guns of every Republic Warship in the area locked on the Merc Ships. Multiple Tractor Beams latched on to targets as the command ship hailed their leader and was brought onscreen.

"Chairman, I am disapointed in you." Nabross said. "I thought you and your men were proffesionals. However you flagrantly disobeyed my orders. If I can not trust you to respect the chain of command where I can see you, How can I expect you to behave when I can't? It is bad enough that you did something when I explicitly told you otherwise, but this is live ordinance we're dealing with."

"Well if you'd taken my hint you wouldn't find yourself pointing those weapons at an ally. You're assaulting a world that can easily liberate itself if you give the populace a little push." Bahl glanced at the comm officer and nodded. The officer tapped a button and began broadcasting the conversation in the open.

"You are throwing your soldiers at an entrenched enemy without thinking of their safety or of considering means that would lower or eliminate casualties among both your own men and civilian population. Moreover my contracts says nothing of falling under your command, I was given a mission by the senate, to liberate the Yag'Dhul system with the least civilian casualties and lowest damage to its infrastructure as possible. I will accomplish that mission."

"You want to end this fight with as little blood shed as possible? Wait for my fire mission. Once there's a hole in the shield send your troops down while we whip up the Givins, arm them and take down the puppets the sith have put in place." He cocked an eyebrow, "Surely you've considered their assistance in any assault?"
PostPosted: Wed May 06, 2009 9:44 pm

"I know what your mission is, Chairman." Nabross replied. "But your mission is also to coordinate with the Republic Force here. You have failed to do that. You did not even deign to consult us on the matter, which is rather offensive since I represent your employers."

"I trust Jedi as much as I trust Sith. Which is I don't. My people will not tolerate being pawns for some damnable force user. We've learned that the hard way." He shook his head, "It cost us two thousand lives Jedi, and we'll not give up that lesson even if you cut this ship up from beneath our feet. You may think us pawns, but would you treat an allied government as you have treated us? Mercenaries are not simply soldiers to be commanded Jedi, they are allies to be treated with respect. Since you showed us no respect, we have shown you none. Perhaps that was a mistake. You have treated us with arrogance and impertinence, is it not logical to expect to be treated much the same? I thought you Jedi were trained to resolve conflicts, that's a laugh. I wonder what the council would say if they saw you now?"

Bahl looked at his ship display and smiled, the number of tractor locks had begun to drop either thanks to the interference of the fighters or... "Perhaps your fleet is of the same opinion. Be aware I've transmitted our conversation in the open to your fellow ships."
PostPosted: Wed May 06, 2009 10:10 pm

"Is this suppose to startle me?" Nabross asked, arching an eyebrow. "Chairman, you are in no position to demand respect. You should have respected my rank as commander of this operation from the get go. You want our respect, you have to earn it. That is by following the chain of command and respecting the losses suffered to gain us the ground we have. The 9th was here first, the 9th shed blood to control this space. You have failed to recognize that."

"My point is if you'd earned your command like a good soldier and thought your attack through a bit better they might not have bled at all." Bahl threw up his hands, "You want to arrest me? Fine. I hope the Senate sends you to the gallows for this."

Bahl glanced down at the crew stations, "Signal the fleet to withdraw, recall the fighters, power down all our weapons and shields, and tell that damnable jedi we're standing down."

He began to pace, anger and frustration burning through him. "Course they can't stop those rounds, and of course they'll rush into the hole they make but by the time they get there the Sith will have turned it into a fire bag. With the rounds on the way our job is done. Transmit a signal explaining our situation and instructions to Seleene's team. Tell them to finish without us."

* * *

Just under a light month away Seleene's transport waited, a modified Punisher-class Corvette, among the few pieces of equipment they'd liberated from the Sith in the last few weeks, and it was fitted out with a top of the line sensor stealth system. Of course, it wouldn't matter how stealthy it was when the ship dropped out of orbit above Yag'Dhul's north pole because every sensor operator in the system would know someone had jumped in there.

Of course that's where speed and armor come into play. And orbital physics, couldn't forget that of course.

"Not likely." Nabross said. "After I submit my report I'm certain, the Republic will terminate its contract with your-"
An aid offscreen suddenly handed him a datapad. Nabross' expression darkened as he read it.
"Disengage the tractor beams and weapon locks." He ordered the crew of his ship. Looking back at the Chairman, Nabross seemed rather displeased.
"Resume your operation, Chairman. The Senate wants Yag'Dhul without delay. As you were."
The screen winked out and the Republic Fleet stood down.
It seemed the Force was with the Mercenaries for now...

The Lyran sergeant, Donivan "Lucky" True by name, sat leaning on his blaster carbine, his energy shield deactivated on his left arm.

"Alright men, listen up," he said to the few soldiers circled around him. "We've got no options, no support, and are most likely going to die very painful deaths in the next hour. So, naturally, I'm expecting miracles out of the lot of ya. What we've got to do is bust out of this firetrap, steal some transportation, and hook up with any remaining Lyran troops on the moon. There's not likely to be many left, but odds are we might run into a few lost souls like ourselves.

In the meantime, we take down as many of these nerfherders as we can, and show them what real soldiers are capable of. We head out in two minutes, so gear up.

Now Zoe, let me see that grenade launcher..."
